June Refugee Numbers: 43 States ‘Welcomed’ Refugees, but None Placed in Delaware

As regular readers know, Comrade Joe has promised to aim for 62,500 refugees to be admitted to the US through the US Refugee Admissions Program by the end of this September.

For new readers, these are ‘refugees’ chosen by the UN from largely Africa, Asia and the Middle East and do NOT include the hundreds of thousands of border invaders.

1,530 impoverished third worlders were admitted in June which brings the total for the first nine months of Fiscal year 2021 to 4,780.  At this rate they will have to do some serious ‘welcoming’ to reach even Trump’s lowest admission record of all time—11,814.

You can see the limited data available at the Refugee Processing Center.

At the end of the Trump administration the data was voluminous, but now is limited to only the most cursory information.

The first thing I noticed when looking at the data was that it sure looks like we are still moving the entirety of the Democratic Republic of Congo to America!  More on that in a minute.

And, I noticed that some of the usual top ‘welcoming’ states were not at the top any longer and some others had crept into the top ten.

The regulars Texas, New York, Michigan and California are there, but Kentucky! beats out California for a spot in the top five when it comes to admitting the Congolese.  Big Poultry must need workers!

Kentucky got 92 refugees in June and 81 were from the DR Congo!

Six states and the District of Columbia got zip, zero, nada refugees. West Virginia got one refugee this year.

Joe Biden’s Delaware was one of the six that have none.

In fact, long time readers know that Joe Biden and Ted Kennedy created the refugee program back in 1979, and yet Delaware has only received a handful of refugees over the last 40 years.

Here are the states (and the District of Columbia) which had no resettlements this fiscal year:  Alabama, Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Wyoming.  New readers are always fascinated to hear that Wyoming has never allowed any refugee resettlement.

Here is the top ten line up.  Although the numbers are small so far, you should consider these as leading contenders for the big flood Biden promises for FY22 (125,000 anticipated) which begins on October 1, 2021—in less than three months.

NY (117)

MI (100)

KY (92)

TX (82)

WI (78)  This is the first time I have seen Wisconsin even in the top ten!

CA (74)

AZ (71)

GA (65)

TN (65)

CO (62)  I don’t recall Colorado ever being in the top ten either.

More than 50% of this month’s ‘new American refugees’ (829) are from the DR Congo.

And, because it is so easy to go down memory lane and bring you older posts (from when the data was still available at the Refugee Processing Center), here is a 2019 post (with screenshots) in which I reminded readers that it was the Obama administration that in 2013 promised the United Nations we would move 50,000 Congolese to a town near you over the following five years.

In 2019 we were already 8,999 over that cap!  I said then that I doubted even the Trump State Department remembered there was a cap of 50,000.

We could easily be pushing 70,000 now, but the data is not available.

Obama Told UN We Would Take 50,000 Congolese Refugees in Five Years! Time is up!

Banksy Boat Founders in Mediterranean, Reminds Us that Invasion of Europe is Ongoing

Invasion of Europe news…..

First off, I wanted to know who the h*** is Banksy?

Banksy tribute to George Floyd. His ‘art’ pays for ‘rescue’ ships.

Turns out he is an anonymous British street artist who is apparently rolling in dough—enough dough to fund a vessel that will bring more invaders to Europe nevermind any silly little lockdown (what pandemic?) that keeps you from visiting Europe!

Editor: By the way, I guess my August recess is over.  Back to work!

From the BBC yesterday:

Migrant rescue: UN urges help as 200 taken off Banksy rescue boat

The UN Refugee Agency says almost 400 refugees and migrants rescued by three ships in the Mediterranean must be allowed to disembark safely.

A joint statement issued with the International Organization for Migration said it was a “humanitarian imperative to save lives”.

Italy’s coastguard evacuated 49 people from an overloaded rescue vessel funded by British artist Banksy.

Watch some of the rescue here:

Another rescue boat SeaWatch 4 later took the remaining 150 on board.

The crew of the Louise Michel had earlier tweeted a call for immediate assistance. European authorities had not responded adequately, they said. Sea Watch 4 said late on Saturday it was now carrying 350 people who needed to disembark as soon as possible.

Chris Grodotzki, part of the Sea Watch 4 rescue team, told the BBC the people it picked up were “sea sick, they showed signs of fuel burns, they were disorientated, dehydrated”.

He said the situation on board was currently “stable” but that the vessel would not be able to carry that number of people for a long period of time.

“The decks are stuffed,” he said. “People are crammed together.”

[….]

The UNHCR and the IOM said the lack of a deal on a regional landing system could not be an excuse to deny vulnerable people safe harbour.

[….]

According to UN data, 443 people have died or have gone missing trying to cross the Mediterranean from north Africa so far in 2020.

Slightly more than 40,000 have arrived in Europe by sea during the same period.

So what lucky country will be getting this latest batch?  We will be watching.

Sigh, don’t we all miss Matteo Salvini who briefly slowed the invasion.

Minorities Driving US Population Growth; Refugee Program adds a Quarter of a Million Africans to the Mix

‘New Americans’ are having more babies than white Americans says the US Census Bureau.

Bloomberg (New American Economy!) was happy to report the latest news:

U.S. Population Growth Has Been Driven Exclusively by Minorities

U.S. racial and ethnic minorities accounted for all of the nation’s population growth during the last decade, according to new Census Bureau estimates.

Too funny! When I went on a search for a photo for this news, what did I find? Bloomberg reporting in 2014: March of the non-white babies! https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-11-14/march-of-the-non-white-babies

The data underscore the nation’s growing diversity and suggest that the trend will continue as the White population ages and low birth rates translate to a declining share. Non-Hispanic Whites declined to 60.1% of the populace in 2019 and their number shrank by about 9,000 from the 2010 Census to slightly more than 197 million.

[….]

“The declining White population share is pervasive across the nation,” according to a report by William Frey, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. The decline was “accentuated in the past few years by a reduction of births among young adult White women and an uptick in deaths, perhaps associated with drug-related ‘deaths of despair.’”

If the data are confirmed by the 2020 census that’s underway, the decade after 2010 would be the first one since the first population count was taken in 1790 that the White population didn’t grow, according to Frey.

White people’s share of the population declined in all 50 states, increasing only in the District of Columbia, according to the Brookings analysis. It fell in 358 of the 364 U.S. metropolitan areas and in 3,012 of its 3,141 counties.

More the one quarter of the 100 largest metropolitan areas have minority-White populations, including Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. Leading the states with the highest share of White residents last year were Maine, Vermont, West Virginia and New Hampshire.

So as American white women have fewer babies, the UN and the US State Department, not satisfied with the speed of diversification (?) have been adding to our African population (other ethnic groups too, but they aren’t in the news every day as are the disgruntled and demanding African-Americans).

UN protecting DR Congolese from rape violence. Do you think these refugees will care one bit about American culture and history when they get here? And, will anyone teach them our values? https://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/04/world/africa/04congo.html

There are 54 nations in Africa and I had a look at the data at the Refugee Processing Center for about 50 of those.

We admitted 286,364 Africans to live permanently in America following 911 (since fiscal year 2002), and that is just the number that were admitted as refugees with all the benefits that group of immigrants receive.

Of those Somalis were 104,183 and the DR Congolese are at 74,049.

Top year was 2016 (Obama, not a surprise) when 31,672 Africans arrived to help change America faster, but coming in second was a George Bush year (2004) with 29,068.  Trump isn’t exactly turning the spigot off as he admitted 16,370 ‘new Americans’ from Africa in 2019.

I suspect a quarter of a million Africans have had a heck of a lot of babies in two decades.

Ghana Invites African-Americans to Come Home to Africa

When I first started writing RRW now almost 13 years ago, I originally (naively) assumed, as so many newbies do to the issue of refugee resettlement, that we actually admitted refugees for a few years, helped them get educated while protecting them from some threat in Africa (or wherever) and that they then went home.

I quickly learned how wrong I was and that refugees admitted to the US under the US Refugee Admissions Program were here to stay.

However, now, in light of the rage being demonstrated against America, by not just African-Americans, but by unhappy refugees and unhappy and angry so-called ‘Dreamers’ from south of the border (see my post just now at ‘Frauds and Crooks’), maybe the idea of just going home and fixing one’s own native land is an excellent idea whose time has come.

The leadership of the African country of Ghana has launched a ‘Come Home’ movement that should be appealing to many who say white America is a racist land!

And, I am not trying to be funny or provocative here.

This is an idea that should be widely promoted.  For those who find America an unhappy place, please take your skills, your talents, your education and your industry and return to your native country (or the country of your heritage) and work to make it better.

And, by doing so, make the world a better place!

From Breitbart:

Ghana Invites African Americans to ‘Come Home’ in Wake of U.S. Protests

Ghana, considered a gateway of the brutal slave trade to the United States that began more than 400 years ago, is urging “unwanted” Americans of African heritage to resettle within its borders in the wake of the police killing of Minnesota resident George Floyd.

During a memorial and wreath-laying ceremony in honor of Floyd last Friday, Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Barbara Oteng-Gyasi invited African Americans to “re-settle in Ghana if they feel unwanted” in the United States, the Independent Ghana news outlet reported.

[….]

We continue to open our arms and invite all our brothers and sisters home. Ghana is your home. Africa is your home. We have our arms wide open ready to welcome you home. Please take advantage, come home build a life in Ghana, you do not have to stay where you are not wanted forever, you have a choice and Africa is waiting for you.

Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo. Of course he is referring to American born African Americans, but surely some of the unhappy Somalis raised in America would be welcome too!

[….]

Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo officially launched the “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” in Washington, DC, in September 2018, the United Nations noted.

“We know of the extraordinary achievements and contributions they [Africans in the diaspora] made to the lives of the Americans, and it is important that this symbolic year — 400 years later — we commemorate their existence and their sacrifices,” the Ghanaian president declared.

The Ghanaian government launched the 2019 effort to mark 400 years since the first documented slave ship left Africa to the U.S. state of Virginia.

More here.

In the months ahead, help me follow this story and see just how many unhappy in America, go home to Africa., or, go home to any other country they came from.

Too bad there is no political will to organize a “go home” movement.

Are We Testing Refugees Entering the US for Covid-19 Infection ?

Do you see that big red spot in the center of Africa? That is the DR Congo where the largest group of US-bound refugees have been coming from in recent years.

Since we are now blocking Europeans from entering the US, the logical next question is are refugees being blocked from entry, or are they at least being tested?

(By the way I recommend a great post today at Gatestone on the extent of the virus crisis in Europe.)

As of three days ago the UN High Commissioner for Refugees reported that so far there had been no cases of refugees being infected with Covid-19, but all that has changed as at least one refugee In Iraq and another on the Greek island of Lesbos are reported infected.  (And, I suspect we are not hearing the full story).

Here is the UNHCR on Tuesday:

“To date and based on available evidence, there have been no reports of COVID-19 infections among refugees and asylum seekers.”

But, just 48 hours later here comes news from Zerohedge about the first Iraqi camp resident testing positive.

Nightmare Scenario: Iraq Detects Suspected Covid-19 Cases In Overcrowded Refugee Camp

And, here is a story from The Guardian that was published only a day after the UNHCR spoke.  Lesbos is a Greek island overrun by Middle East refugees.

Lesbos coronavirus case sparks fears for refugee camp

I’m sure there will be more reports like these in the coming days and weeks.

In the US, the first question I’ve seen about whether refugees are being tested comes from Tennessee where the criticism against Republican Governor Bill Lee has been intense for his eagerness to welcome more impoverished (costly for taxpayers) refugees to the state.

From the Dailyrollcall.com:

Are Bill Lee’s Refugees Being Screened for Coronavirus?

Good question!

So dear Mr. President, are we testing refugees coming into the US since much of the world is now infected?

Editor’s note:  As RRW approaches its 13th birthday, there are over 10,000 posts archived here at Refugee Resettlement Watch. Unfortunately, it is just me here with no staff and so it has become virtually impossible to answer all of the basic questions that come into my e-mail inbox or to RRW’s facebook page every day. I don’t want to appear rude—I simply haven’t enough hours in the day.

Please take time to visit RRW (don’t just read posts in your e-mail) and use the search window in the right hand sidebar and see if you can find the information you need.  Also see my series that I wrote in recent months entitled Knowledge is Power which explains some basic principles of how Refugee Resettlement is carried out in the US.

And, lastly, I don’t write that much every day, so if you made a habit of reading my posts here on a daily basis, you would eventually catch on to what is happening because I do link back to previous posts as much as possible. LOL!  Thank you for helping me not go crazy!
