Canada clearing out its troublesome “refugees,” extradites Somali to Minnesota

Canada appears to be doing what it says it will do—getting rid of its asylum-seeking criminals.

This guy, ho hum another Somali, was wanted in the US for breaking into a home in 2009 and raping a 15-year old.  Hat tip: Cliff.

From Fox 9 News:

MINNEAPOLIS – A Somali man has been arrested and extradited from Canada to face charges in a 2009 Minneapolis home break-in and sexual assault of two teenage girls.

Yahye Abdisalan, 33, was charged last April with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, second-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct and burglary in connection with the December 2009 incident.

According to the criminal complaint, a 17-year-old girl woke up to Abdisalan in her bed, touching her leg. When he pulled of his pants and the girl acted oddly, Abdisalan said “you must not be her.” He then went to the bed of the girl’s 15-year-old sister.

The first girl ran to her parents’ room and alerted them to the attack. Meanwhile, Abdisalan sexually assaulted the 15-year-old girl in her bed. When the parents started toward the girl’s room, Abdisalan took off running down the stairs and out of the apartment.

The girls’ mother was able to grab Abdisalan’s stocking cap as he fled. DNA evidence from the cap was matched to DNA found on the 15-year-old girl.

The Hennepin County attorney’s office obtained a grand jury indictment so that if convicted, Abdisalan can be sentenced to life in prison.

“There are a number of ways to deal with (repeat) sex offenders,” explained Hennepin County Prosecutor Mike Freeman. “I can’t think of a better one than sending him away for life without the opportunity of parole.”

However, Monday’s appearance was far from the first time Abdisalan has been before a judge. In 2002, the Somalia native entered a guilty plea for attempting to sexually assault an 8-year-old girl until her sister started screaming.

Tip to crime victims, grab that hat it’s a treasure trove of information!

By the way, I wonder what it’s going to cost US taxpayers to keep this creep in jail for life—maybe we should seek some reimbursement from the resettlement agency (you know the federal contractors like the wealthy US Conference of Catholic Bishops) that was responsible for his adjustment to America.

For new readers:

The US has admitted well over 100,000 Somali refugees to the US since the early 1990′s (they were trickling in in the 1980′s).   To check out the numbers visit this post, one of our most widely read posts over the last few years.   In FY2010 which ended September 30th the US State Department resettled 4,884 Somalis (here) to towns near you.  The “teen” would-be bomber in Oregon was one of the refugees.

Also, after being closed for nearly two years, the US State Department is on the verge (has been on the verge for months and months!)  of resuming the fraud-ridden family reunification program that admitted as many as 36,000 Somalis fraudulently to the US between 2003 and 2008.  See the latest on new regulations, here.

VEEP’s wife visits the hungry

You can bet we will be bringing many more Somalis to the US in light of the “crisis” on-going now in the Horn of Africa.  Here Jill Biden, Joe’s wife, visits the hungry.  Hubby Joe created the Refugee Act of 1980 with Ted (don’t bring any to Hyannis Port) Kennedy.   Joe’s home state of Delaware is near the bottom of the list for states resettling refugees. The hypocrisy of the “caring class” is stunning beyond belief!

Also,  since Somalis are coming illegally across our borders maybe the rapist in this article isn’t a refugee but came to the US with the help of  American NGOs and asked for asylum.

Note to Canadian Somalis: no offense, but stick with murdering each other

That’s kind of the wrap up to this interesting commentary at Taki’s Magazine on the Edmonton, Canada Somali murder rate.  Hat tip: Mars.

From Kathy Shaidle (Five Feet of Fury) posted at Taki’s Magazine:

Let’s consider ourselves fortunate that Canada’s Somali settlers—the word “immigrant” is so 20th century—seem more or less content with killing each other.

On the last day of July, the Edmonton Journal devoted not two, not three, but seven articles to the latest spate of intra-Somali murders in Alberta’s capital.

(Nicknamed “Deadmonton,” that city leads Canada in homicides this year, with 29 so far—four of those victims being Somali “youths.”)

The Edmonton Journal depicts a community of approximately 10,000 self-effacing newcomers scratching out modest livings and shaken by the statistically significant number of dead sons they’ve been obliged to bury.

Canada has a most wanted for deportation list I’ve been meaning to tell you about.  Here is one story last week that I never got around to posting.  Shaidle references it here:

Even though the Journal’s series coincided with the “controversial” publication of “wanted posters” for war criminals illegally residing in Canada, their reporters didn’t mention that four of the 30 facing deportation are Somalis—along with Afghanistan, the highest number from a single country. That would have made for an enlightening “conversation” at that Edmonton “cafe,” since we’re informed elsewhere that “for many in the Somali community, the distinction between right and wrong is not as clear-cut as government officials would hope.”

Canada to spend nearly two million to integrate Somalis

Edmonton’s Somalis, if the Journal is to be believed, don’t sound like a people who didn’t have a standard alphabet until 1972 or had “never seen a two-story building” before moving to North America.

Regardless, they still cost us money. The Alberta government has pledged $1.9 million dollars to fund “programming” to help Somalis “integrate into mainstream society.”

Of course, that’s a pittance compared to long-term “wear and tear” on the social infrastructure. Take the 98% of Somali females who are victims of genital mutilation, which causes a number of health problems requiring treatment. (Since hymen-replacement surgery is matter-of-factly performed on female Muslims in Canada, it would be naive to presume that FGM isn’t being carried out as well, albeit in “unofficial” settings.)

The average Somali household “has seven median children and the median household income falls well below average.” The financial burdens they place on Canadian taxpayers should be obvious.

There is a lot more, including many links to additional information.  I’ve only touched on a few highlights.  Read on.

Somalia and the “famine industry”

Everywhere you turn these days there are pictures of starving Somalis trekking across the Horn of Africa headed to refugee camps in Kenya with the hope of being resettled in places like the US and Australia (here is one story from Australia saying heads-up, more are coming).

Even last week the US State Department was scrambling to explain to the clamoring media what the US would be doing in light of the “catastrophe” (but “senior administration officials” didn’t want their names publicized!).

[Incidentally I think there is a good chance that the Obama Administration is getting ready to unleash Samantha Power and her ‘responsibility to protect’ doctrine (recently on display in Libya) on the problem.  Basically, she says war is justified wherever we have good intentions to “save” the people.]

Now along comes a story from the East African questioning whether some of the “crisis” is exaggerated so as to keep the aid money flowing to the United Nations and NGOs whose staffs and offices need a steady flow of fresh capital.

The title of the story is:  The unholy alliance in Somalia; media, donors and aid agencies by Rasna Warah (emphasis mine).

The season of giving has started — and it not even Christmas yet. Leading international aid agencies, including the United Nations, Oxfam, Save the Children and Islamic Relief UK, have launched massive campaigns to save the thousands of Somalis who are facing hunger in their own country and in refugee camps in neighbouring Kenya and Ethiopia.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has asked donors for $1.6 billion in aid for Somalia and the World Bank has already pledged more than $500 million towards the relief efforts.

The appeals for food aid have been accompanied by heart-wrenching images: children with swollen, malnourished bellies, emaciated mothers with shrivelled breasts that no longer lactate, campsites bursting at the seams with hordes of skeletal refugees. Almost all the large humanitarian aid agencies are rushing to the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya to witness, photograph and film the crisis. We have seen these images before — in the mid-1980s when Mohamed Amin filmed the famine in Ethiopia that triggered the trend of rock stars becoming do-gooders. Since then, famine has become the biggest story coming out of Africa — and one of the biggest industries.

Images of starving Africans are part and parcel of fund-raising campaigns, as are journalists. As one leading humanitarian official told the BBC’s Andrew Harding, the UN can produce endless reports, but it is only when the images of starving people are televised or placed on the front page of newspapers that politicians take action.

The problem is that the story that they see or read is not as impartial as they would like to believe.

Journalists are not impartial (no kidding!)

The cosy relationship between aid workers and journalists has thus distorted the way Africa is reported. Journalists often do not get to the heart of the story or take the time to do the research into the causes of a particular crisis. Africans do not feature much in their stories, except as victims.

“In public affairs discussions the term ‘starving Africans’ (or ‘starving Ethiopians’ or ‘starving Somalis’) rolls from the tongue as easily as ‘blue sky’,” wrote former aid worker Michael Maren in his 1997 book The Road to Hell.

“Charities raise money for starving Africans. What do Africans do? They starve. But mostly they starve in our imaginations. The starving African is a Western cultural archetype like the greedy Jew or the unctuous Arab.”

Political correctness reigns supreme!

In a recent phone conversation, Ms Polman [Dutch journalist Linda Polman] told me that the “starving African” story is not just the easiest to tell, especially in a continent that does not generate much international media coverage, but is also the most “politically correct.” After all, who in their right mind would want to be accused of doing nothing for dying people?

UN and aid agencies:  we need money for our stuff!

He [Ahmed Jama, a Somali agricultural economist based in Nairobi] adds that it is in the interest of UN and other aid agencies to show a worst-case scenario because this keeps the donor funds flowing.

[…..]

The other fact that is conveniently overlooked is that a large proportion of the funds raised is used to cover aid agencies’ administrative and logistical costs. Staff has to be hired, four-wheel-drive cars have to be bought, offices have to be set up, highly paid international experts earning hefty per diems have to be flown in or consulted. All this costs money, lots and lots of money.

Complicity of African governments shouldn’t be overlooked

So we have the journalists, the donors and the aid agencies, and the African governments motives to consider before you open your checkbook.

However, neither the donors nor the aid agencies could play their part without the complicity of African governments, which have unquestioningly taken on the roles of victim and beggar.

I recommend you read the whole article, it is packed full of all sorts of information including a discussion on how Somalia became the hell-hole it is.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard all of this.  In 2009 the Wall Street Journal published an article entitled, ‘Why foreign aid is hurting Africa’ and reported here at RRW.  And then Irish author Kevin Myers* was rhetorically crucified when he dared to challenge the politically correct notion of more aid to Africa and said this:

The wide-eyed boy-child we saved, 20 years or so ago, is now a priapic, Kalashnikov-bearing hearty, siring children whenever the whim takes him.

* It’s amusing to consider that Ireland has produced Samantha Power and Kevin Myers in not quite the same generation, but within a few decades of each other.

Refugees still flooding into Italy (some still dying) trying to leave Libya…..

…..and in a recent news report Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi says it was all America’s idea to go into Libya and support the rebels.

From National Review OnLine today:

Back in late March, shortly after the start of the NATO bombing campaign against Libya, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates told Meet the Press that the U.S. had no “vital interest” in the country. The remark famously inspired Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to cut in and attempt to explain why, then, the United States was getting involved. Secretary Clinton’s explanation was that the Libyan campaign was in the vital interest of America’s NATO allies and that they had asked for U.S. support. “When it comes to Libya,” she said, “we started hearing from the U.K., France, Italy, other of our NATO allies. This was in their vital national interest.”

NRO author John Rosenthal goes on to tell readers that Italy did not push for the ouster of Qaddafi, first fearing that al-Qaeda was involved with the “rebels” and because of fears of just what has happened—thousands of refugees trying to leave Libya and aiming for Italy.

The Italian reluctance to support a military intervention also had to do with fears of seeing such an intervention provoke an exodus of tens of thousands of refugees from Libya, many of whom would inevitably end up in Italy. These fears have proven well founded.

Not in so many words, but Berlusconi now says this is Obama’s (and Hillary’s) War:

But now, according to a report in the Saturday edition of Il Corriere della Sera, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has confided to colleagues not only that he was opposed to the NATO intervention in Libya, but that he was pressured into making available Italian military capabilities by precisely the United States.

In a report from AFP today, we see that 330 more refugees reached the Italian island of Lampedusa while 25 others were asphyxiated in another boat confirming for all that  Berlusconi’s fears were justified as Italy takes the brunt of the invasion of Europe.

ROME — A boat carrying 330 migrants from Libya arrived late Tuesday on the Italian island of Lampedusa, a day after officials found 25 people choked to death in the engine room of another Libyan refugee boat.

[…..]

Lampedusa, which has a surface area of just 20 square kilometres (7.7 square miles), is Italy’s southernmost point and is closer to North Africa than to the Italian mainland.

It is now the biggest gateway for illegal immigration into the European Union following the arrival of tens of thousands of people from North Africa this year.

Meanwhile those friends of America—-those rebel “freedom” fighters—are killing each other (here).  Division and lawlessness in the ranks?  No kidding!

What would we do without Leftist ideologues like Samantha Power bending Obama’s ear on the RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT.  She is credited along with Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton with persuading Obama that the US needed to save the Libyan people from Qaddafi, here.

What a mess!

Endnote and related I think:  Go to this photo essay of supporters of the Libyan rebels.  I especially want you to scroll down to photo #10.  That is Tammam al-Barazi (a Syrian by birth) who was arrested in the county where I live last month for killing his daughter’s new dog (he threw it in front of traffic).  He objected to the dog for “religious reasons.”  LOL! Of course our politically correct local paper leaves readers wondering which religion hates dogs?

I have no proof, but I think he may be one “advising” Hillary on the Middle East, here.  He predicted in May that the Syrian Army would split (signs of that happening now).  If this good agent provocateur is advising the Obama Administration, you can see why our Middle East policy is going up in flames.  BTW, when arrested in Hagerstown his bags were packed for Egypt!

State Department press briefing sounds like an audition for the Jon Stewert Daily Show

This is how it went today at a background briefing on Somalia and humanitarian aid in the Horn of Africa where the ISLAMIC terror group Al Shabaab has disallowed the delivery of aid—you know they will kill whoever brings food and then steal the food.

Here are a few comments at a mysterious press briefing by mysterious briefers likely hastily called because the New York Times and the Washington Post want to know what Obama is doing about starving Somalis:

SENIOR ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL ONE: Let me just remind everybody that this is – this call is on background and ask that if you find quotes that you want to use that you attribute those to Senior Administration Officials. And I think what we’re going to do is I will try to offer a sort of a quick chapeau of where we are and what our concerns are and invite both [Senior Administration Official Two] and [Senior Administration Official Three] to add to that. And then we’ll be happy to take your questions.

A “quick chapeau” (a hat?) follows, then Senior Administration Official One turns the call over to Senior Administration Official Two from Mystery agency number two, well it has to be number two because Senior official one must be from the US State Department (this is on their letterhead).

So that is sort of the quick overview of where we are. I think you’ve probably seen stories in both The Washington Post and The New York Times today that describe this evolving situation, and let me ask [Senior Administration Official Two] from [Agency Withheld] if she’s got anything to add.

Senior Administration Official Two does have something to say:

SENIOR ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL TWO: Yeah. Thanks, [Senior Administration Official One]. I just want to underscore how deeply concerned we are about the situation, really throughout the Horn as [Senior Administration Official One] described, but particularly in southern Somalia….

Now One turns it over to Senior Official Three (are you keeping up with this?):

SENIOR ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL ONE: Thanks, [Senior Administration Official Two]. Let me ask [Senior Administration Official Three] from [Agency Withheld] if she has anything to add to this.

Of course she does:

SENIOR ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL THREE: I’d like to reiterate what [Senior Administration Official Two] and [Senior Administration Official One] are already highlighting for everybody. It’s – I mean, obviously, the conditions are really terrible and it’s – it is no coincidence that the worst-affected areas are those that are under the control of al-Shabaab.

You get the drift, you can read the whole press briefing here.

Now here is my question for readers—WHAT THE HECK ARE THESE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION PARAGONS OF TRANSPARENCY SO SCARED ABOUT?  Or, is this just a spoof—-an audition for the Jon Stewart Daily Show?

Are they afraid of…

1) Al Shabaab hunting them down and killing them in their beds tonight if they reveal their names? or

2) Those evil Tea Party budget cutters will get wind that money is being shipped overseas and know exactly which agency is behind it?  or

3)  They don’t want some poor suckers in the US military knowing who is sending them into Somalia (again!)? or

4)  Michelle Obama will tell them what food needs to be sent to a real food desert? or

5)  The most likely one—they don’t know how the hell to solve this.  The Administration has no idea what to do and no one wants to take responsibility?

Do you have a better guess?  Tell me.
