Two American women dead in New Hampshire….

….brutally murdered by men who are recent immigrants.   One alleged murderer is an illegal Haitian, the other a supposedly legal Kenyan.  Frankly, I am getting lost in my immigrant diversity is strength crime stories that need posting.  I have some from Washington State as well and a reader sent me some other recent events in New Hampshire besides these two heinous murders.   Hat tip to two readers for these New Hampshire stories.

In the first case, reported in the Concord Monitor, the illegal Haitian just took a gun next door and shot a married nursing student at point blank range as she got him a drink of water.  Apparently the confessed murderer gave a motive to authorities but that has not been released to the public.

The Haitian national accused of killing a 31-year-old nursing student in her Henniker home was in the United States illegally and confessed to shooting her in the head after investigators showed him forensic evidence that linked him to the murder weapon, according to a newly unsealed police affidavit.

Roody Fleuraguste, 22, told investigators that he took a .357-caliber revolver belonging to Molly Hawthorn-MacDougall’s father-in-law, loaded it with six bullets and walked next door to her home at 18 Rand Road, where he shot her the morning of April 29, according to an affidavit filed by the state police to support an arrest warrant.

“I did it. . . . I did it,” Fleuraguste said, according to the court filing.

Partially redacted versions of two affidavits in the case were unsealed yesterday by a Merrimack County Superior Court judge. The Monitor and the New Hampshire Union Leader filed motions asking that the documents be released to the public.

In the second case, the supposedly legal Kenyan* was the father of the murdered woman’s child.   The child may have witnessed the brutal murder that involved stabbing, and possibly a beating with a hammer and being run over by a car.

BRENTWOOD, N.H. — A man has been charged with stabbing and killing the mother of his son.

Police found Randi Huntley, 25, suffering from stab wounds near her home in Danville, N.H., on Tuesday afternoon. She died a short time later.

According to court paperwork, investigators believe Huntley died after being repeatedly stabbed and/or hit with a metal hammer, and she may have been run over by a car.

On Wednesday, police charged Jackson Mwangi, 28, with first-degree murder. He was arraigned in Exeter District Court, but no motive for the killing was discussed.

Assistant Attorney General Peter Hinckley said afterward that at one point, Mwangi and Huntley had been romantically involved. Mwangi and Huntley had a 4-year-old son together but were no longer a couple.

He also said that Mwangi, a Kenyan national, is in the country legally, although he couldn’t say how long he had been in the United States.

* I bet we find out he was just as “legal” as Obama’s Kenyan Aunt Zeituni.

And to all the readers who are fuming and spluttering about how white American men are murderers too.  Yes, they are, but that is not the subject of this blog.  You are welcome to write a blog about evil white American men at any time.

Two would-be jihadists nabbed by feds as they leave NJ for Somalia

Breaking News this morning!   Two young men, both American citizens, were intercepted by the feds as they attempted to board a plane to join Al-Shabaab in Somalia.

Here is a bit of a very detailed story about Operation Arabian Knight from The Star Ledgers’ NJ.com:

Two New Jersey men intent on killing American troops were arrested Saturday as they boarded flights to link up with a virulent jihadist group in Somalia, authorities said.

The men, both North Jersey residents, were charged with conspiring to commit an act of international terrorism through a group tied to Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network, according to officials familiar with the details of the arrests.

Mohamed Hamoud Alessa, 20, of North Bergen, and Carlos Eduardo Almonte, 26, of Elmwood Park were apprehended at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens before they could board separate flights to Egypt, where they were to start journeys to Somalia. The men were arrested by teams of state and federal law-enforcement agents who have been investigating the pair since October 2006, according to the officials, who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the operation publicly.

Late Saturday night, the state homeland security agency confirmed a police action at the airport but gave few details.

The case is similar to the one we have reported ad nauseam from Minnesota since 2008 (just search RRW for ‘somali missing youths’).

Authorities said the men planned to wage jihad as part of a Somalia-based Islamist terror group called al Shabaab, an organization of several thousand fighters spread through Somalia’s southern region. Al Shabaab, whose full Arabic name means “Mujahideen Youth Movement,” has had ties to al Qaeda since 2007, according to national security experts.*

Last year, federal authorities in Minnesota charged 14 men connected to a plot designed to entice young Americans to join up with al Shabaab. And, in February, the New York Times reported the group announced it was joining forces with the ‘’international jihad of Al Qaeda.”

As in the Minnesota case, investigators believe Alessa and Almonte were recruited by others, who are also now coming under scrutiny. “We hope this will lead to a spider web of arrests,” said one official briefed on the case.

* Isn’t that amusing, now national security experts say they knew since 2007 that Al Shabaab was connected to international terrorist groups like Al Qaeda!  Why didn’t they report that to the Senate Homeland Security Committee hearings that I attended in March 2009, here?   Senators Lieberman and Collins were very happy to hear from national security experts that the Somali missing youths were NOT connected with international terrorism.

Just a reminder that Somali reader Khadra has said that many Somali Muslim men born in the US (Hispanics too it looks like based on the name Carlos Almonte) have no intention of assimilating and are hellbent on violent Jihad.

More news! Jerry Gordon just sent this report from the Investigative Project on Terrorism on the Somali terrorist threat!  By the way, the man interviewed in this report was at the Senate hearings in 2009 and warned the Senators about the real threat—that trained Jihadists with US passports would come back!   The wheels of government work ever so slowly.

The Virginia man accused of illegally smuggling as many as 270 Somalis into the US is a free man today.  Unbelievable!  This is a story we first reported here.  In addition to the shocking news that he got off with time served, it turns out he had been an agent of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and another unnamed US federal agency in Kenya (FBI?  CIA? they aren’t saying).  Are they protecting us or their agent?

Here is the Canadian Press story today.  The feds couldn’t find any of the Somalis he supposedly brought to the US.  Ho hum, so what else is new!

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — This much is known about Anthony Joseph Tracy: He told government agents he helped 270 Somalians illegally enter the United States through Cuba. He flunked a lie detector test when he denied helping members of the Somali terror group al-Shabaab. He was some sort of informant for the federal government going back at least as far as 2002.

And on Friday, the Winchester, Virginia, man was sentenced to roughly four months in jail, equal to time served, and walked out a free man.

The case against Tracy, who spent significant time in Kenya running an illicit travel agency, is shrouded in secrecy. His sentencing hearing Friday was held in open court, but lawyers and the judge talked around the specifics of what he actually did.

In fact, his guilty plea, apparently entered earlier this year, remains under seal. So the exact nature of Tracy’s misconduct remains unclear. [This is a fishy story–ed]

The few court records that are unsealed indicated that federal agents have been working feverishly for months trying to find the people that Tracy said he helped enter the U.S.

He picked up a Somali trait in his travels I see—a second wife.  [Ha! A New York Times version of the story leaves out the second wife information, here.]

Tracy, who has a wife and five children in Winchester, also married a woman in an Islamic ceremony in Kenya, according to transcripts.

CAIR pushes US Dept. of Education investigation into claims of harassment of Somali students

This is an update of the on-going controversy in St. Cloud, MN about alleged harassment of Somali students by white kids.  I meant to post on this last week and have additional comments, but the story is getting old and I thought I better just get it up in its bare bones form without a lot of yakking by me.   Please use our search function for St. Cloud to see our many previous posts.   See also this post about Kansas yesterday and a comment by a Somali woman who discusses the concept of  what she terms the Somali “invasion” of “villages.”   Although with an estimated population of 10,000 Somalis I’m wondering if the St. Cloud Somalis would still consider this a “village?”

From the St. Cloud Times:

The U.S. Department of Education will investigate claims of discrimination against Somali students in St. Cloud and Owatonna high schools, federal officials said Tuesday.

The investigation is in response to a complaint from the Council on American-Islamic Relations asking the department’s Office of Civil Rights to investigate claims in the two school districts. Minnesota CAIR detailed a number of incidents in St. Cloud’s high schools that they say show Somali students confront a hostile and harassing environment.

“I’m sure (the investigation) will start fairly soon. Resolution can take anywhere from a month to several months,” said Justin Hamilton, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Education.

The letter the department sent to the school district asks for information related to harassment complaints involving Somalis at Technical High School and Apollo High School. It asks for a written response to the allegations and school policies on discrimination. The district has 15 days to return the information.

CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) cheers the investigation announcement.

In a statement, CAIR Minnesota, which is in St. Paul, said it welcomed the investigation.

“Our goal is to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all students,” said CAIR Minnesota Civil Rights Director Taneeza Islam. “Decades after the beginning of the civil rights movement, no student should be constantly subjected to racial slurs or harassment at school.”

Hamilton said the department cannot investigate for religious discrimination. But it can investigate possible discrimination based on national origin, race or color.

Will this part of the investigation get a full review?  At least one commenter I saw didn’t think so.

The report also showed Somali students were involved in harassing behavior toward non-Somali students.

African refugees struggle in Arizona, no jobs, numbers rising quickly

And, older African refugees have a hard time culturally.  Those are the basic themes of a story we have heard all too often.

While Arizona continues to make headlines as a hotbed for immigration issues, concerns about African immigrants in Phoenix do not always garner the same attention afforded to the larger Latino population, or the predominant African American community.

African immigrants residing in the Phoenix metropolitan area—many of them refugees resettled here by the U.S. government–are a compact pan-African group of less than 20,000, according to the 2008 American Community Survey. They enrich Phoenix culture from an impressive array of nations, from West Africa (Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria to East (Sudan, Somalia and Ethiopia), and from the central continent (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Tanzania), to South Africa—plus many other countries.

Life in this arid new land is especially trying for many older African immigrants. They find themselves far from often strife-ridden homelands, unable to find work and facing barriers of language and mobility. Adding to their stress are daily confrontations with a generation of Americanized children, who seem to turn traditional values upside down.

Among the African immigrants in the Valley, the main population increase has come from refugees escaping brutal circumstances at home. According to the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, the overall refugee population in Arizona more than doubled from 2006 to 2009 to 4,327.

Refugees resettled in the Phoenix area are not only from multiple African countries, but include large numbers from Iraq and Burma, as well as other strife-torn nations.

Jobs Are Scarce

The recession is having a strong impact on employment for Arizona’s refugees. Finding jobs for immigrants is a primary concern for the state-contracted refugee resettlement agencies, which bring a large portion of Africans to the Valley.

Only one in three of people in the refugee caseload entered the workforce in 2009, the lowest level in three years for the Office for Refugee Resettlement. Those who landed work received an average hourly wage of $7.17.
