CNN Pushes Fishy Somali Refugee Sob Story to Beat Up Trump (Again)

Nevermind that it is the United Nations that halted refugee travel due to the Chinese virus crisis.

Refugee contractors are trying to “chart a path forward” as refugee admissions this year are set to be the lowest they have ever been since Senators Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden and the peanut farmer, Jimmy Carter, created the US Refugee Admissions Program that became law in 1980.

But, oh how they love their sob stories featuring poor suffering families seeking to be reunited.

Sob story design and promotion is one of the Leftwing media’s greatest skills!

Sorry, no sympathy from me for a mother who leaves her INFANT daughter in a hellhole refugee camp to come to America with a supposedly sick husband expecting then to have the US government fly her daughter to her at a later date.

Here is CNN:

A family was set to be reunited after nearly four years apart. Then coronavirus struck.

(CNN) More than three years ago, Deman Aman Abshir, a Somali national, faced an impossible choice: leave behind her newborn daughter to come to the United States or watch as her husband’s health worsened.

She left behind an infant daughter, now three years old, to hop on that plane with a supposedly sick hubby. She had another choice!

Abshir and her husband, fleeing deteriorating conditions in Somalia, worried that any delay in leaving could hinder their chances to resettle in the US and get medical treatment, she said. So they left.

[….]

In 2011, amid an ongoing civil war in the country, Abshir decided to leave Somalia and fled to a refugee camp in Ethiopia.

“Life was hard and there was a lot of struggle,” she said.

Over the years, the health of Abshir’s husband, Mohamed Hussen Ibrahim, who was being treated for a neurologic condition that prevented him from walking and doing other daily activities, started to worsen.

His “neurologic condition” apparently didn’t prevent some daily activities!

And, he sure must have gotten some magical medical treatment in the US (on your dime!) because he got a job, but there is not one word in this story about his diagnosis, treatment or recovery.

In late 2016, more than a year after their case had been approved, the couple was ready to depart to the United States.

“Three different situations happened at the same time: my husband’s situation got worse; we had our newborn; we had the process approved,” Abshir recalled. “It was 2016 so Trump was getting elected, so we knew if we had to delay, the opportunity would never come so we had to choose sacrifice to be with our child or leave for the US with my husband to get better treatment.”

She had another choice:  Let her husband go on to America (so you could pay for his medical care) and she could stay in Africa with her INFANT daughter!

Now we are expected to believe she is so emotional over the separation that she can’t work!

Abshir’s four-month-old daughter had not been part of the original case, therefore adding her would delay their departure and postpone obtaining medical treatment for her husband. Abshir called the decision to leave Nimco behind “painful,” recounting the difficulty she had in keeping jobs in the US because she was overwhelmed with emotions.

Plummer is described as the family’s lawyer, but she also happens to be the Executive Director of CRIS a Columbus, Ohio based subcontractor of Church World Service, facts not reported by CNN. https://www.crisohio.org/about-us/

Since then, Plummer has tried to get Nimco’s case approved to reunite with the family. The nearly four-year uphill battle appeared to be reaching a conclusion when the coronavirus pandemic shut down arrivals.

[….]

Abshir, whose husband also lost his job because of the pandemic [“also”? weren’t we just old she couldn’t hold a job due to being emotionally distraught?—ed]  has remained hopeful, but extended separations often weigh on families.

[He had a job, wow!  He must have recovered from his serious health issue and inability to walk.—ed]

CNN continues….

“I see these cases and it’s joyful when a child reunites with a parent and it’s all wonderful superficially but you can’t get that time back. The child doesn’t know their parents … just the psychological impact to the family for as long as the delay continues,” Plummer said.  [Taxpayer-funded counseling ahead?—ed]

All of that is to set the tone for the rest of the article that goes on to bash the Trump Administration.

We do learn that no date has been set to resume refugee resettlement.

But, just so you know, we have admitted nearly 400 refugees since the Virus Crisis ‘moratorium’ began.

Refugee arrivals to the US were suspended as of March 19, with the exception of certain emergency cases, a State Department spokesperson told CNN.

No date has been provided on when admissions will resume. The spokesperson said State “will seek to resume refugee arrivals when it is safe and logistically feasible to do so, subject to any travel restrictions in place at that time.”

Will George Floyd’s Death Unite Muslims Behind Non-Muslim African Americans?

That is what many on the political Left are banking on as CAIR is out front in its call for Muslims to support their black brothers.

Go here to see the entire poster: https://www.cair.com/press_releases/protesting-use-these-posters-study-your-rights-stay-safe/

I guess you are asking—haven’t they been doing that all along?

Not so much!

Over the years, almost 13 now, writing this blog I’ve come across reports that the mainstream media doesn’t want to talk about—tension in African American communities that don’t take kindly to the arrival of Muslim ‘refugees’ plopped down in the middle of their neighborhoods—as I mentioned here the other day when writing about how diversity does not bring strength and that the American magical melting pot is a myth.

Now this morning I see that Dean Obeidallah, opining at the Daily Beast , is salivating about the possibility of an alliance that he sees growing between Muslim activists, like CAIR, and African American rights activists.

Unfortunately, in order to read the whole thing a subscription is required, but here is a bit of his thesis with some nuggets about the tensions that have existed.  Some of you may have witnessed this in your own multiculti cities.

Daily Beast:

How Floyd Case Could Finally Unite Blacks and Muslims

(Emphasis is mine)

Despite the Muslim and African-American communities both being minority groups, and the fact that nearly one third of the Muslim American community is black, there’s been a history of tension or mistrust between many in the two groups. And George Floyd’s tragic murder and the reaction that followed both conjure up the past challenges for these two communities—and offer an inspiring sign of hope for the future.

One of the primary areas of friction arises from the fact that some Muslims own delis or even liquor stores in urban neighborhoods where they gladly accept the money of black customers but show no support for the African-American community in time of need.

Others, such as Michigan-based Imam Dawud Walid, who is African-American, [who also happens to be the director of CAIR-Michigan—ed], have called out South Asian and Arab Muslim store owners who profit off the black community by selling them goods that are detrimental to their health, as he did in a tweet this week:

While some have accused the Muslim owners of being welcoming of white patrons but openly hostile to black customers, calling them racist names in Arabic or other languages. [Who knew!—ed]

Add to that, internally in the Muslim community, some Middle Eastern/South Asian Muslims—primarily but not exclusively immigrants—had a history of not welcoming or being dismissive of them simply because of their race. This very point was made by comedian Hasan Minhaj this week on his Netflix series Patriot Act, as he addressed the murder of Floyd and need for “Brown” people—especially Muslims—to be a part of the fight against discrimination.

Go here and subscribe to the Daily Beast for more of this op-ed.

And, to give some perspective on the racist attitude toward blacks by some segments of the Muslim population, visit one of dozens of articles about the history of the African slave trade when Arab Muslims enslaved Africa’s indigenous people as they conquered and colonized North and East Africa.

By the way, you might find it informative to see Obeidallah’s trailer for a 2013 comedy show.  I can’t imagine it went over very well with some segments of the Muslim community.

We Paid to Welcome Them to America, Now They Join the Mob

I had been wondering if Minneapolis’s large population of African refugees had joined the throngs of rioters and looters. It seems they have.

It is more proof that the citizens of Minnesota’s St. Louis County who just last week protested against refugees for their towns and cities are right—diversity destroys the social fabric of communities.

Feel the rage!  From the refugees?  Or, from American taxpayers who for decades have been paying billions of their hard-earned dollars to bring, dare I say it, a bunch of ingrates who now say we are racists and they fear for their sons?

I suspect you have one answer for them!

From Channel News Asia (yes, an international news site painting white America as the root of all evil):

In Minneapolis, African refugees see American dream in tatters

(Their dream in tatters?  What about our dreams for the country we love?)

MINNEAPOLIS: African refugees living in Minneapolis were already struggling with their “American dream” when George Floyd died in police custody.

Now their dream is in tatters and they have joined their African American “brothers” in the streets to protest racism in their adopted homeland. [Cut the B.S. with the mushy “adopted homeland” lingo. They didn’t come here because they love America!—ed]

[….]

The state of Minnesota, where Minneapolis is located, has the highest percentage of refugees per inhabitant in the whole country, with two percent of the US population but 13 per cent of its refugees, according to the most recent census.

Among them are a large number of people from the Horn of Africa – Ethiopians and Somalis – whose presence in the marches was noticeable because of the colourful robes worn by the women.

[….]

Deka Jama, a 24-year-old woman who came to the United States from Somalia in 2007, showed up with friends, all of them veiled, to protest the discrimination that met them in their new homeland.

“We thought that everyone would be equal, that we would not be judged by religion, by colour, by our dresses. That’s not how we were welcomed,” she told AFP.

She feels a close affinity to African Americans, many of them descended from slaves and who have been Americans for generations.

There is “something connects us,” she said. “We are all dehumanised, regardless of our cultural differences. We have to be here for them.”

Minnesota’s Somali community has a source of pride, though, in Ilhan Omar, a 37-year-old born in Mogadishu who was elected to Congress in 2018.

[….]

“So many people know a social and economic neglect,” Omar said on Sunday.

According to Minnesota Compass, a website that tracks the state’s demographics, families from Africa are particularly hard hit.

In 2016, Obama was President, he sure didn’t do much for African poverty in America (or was that part of the plan?)!

In 2016, 12 per cent of the population of Minnesota was living under the poverty line, but that number rose to 31 per cent among the Ethiopian community and 55 per cent among Somalis.

Immigrant-owned businesses destroyed too!  And, yet, it is all about racist white America.  Have they no eyes to see or brains to think?

That has meant that for many refugees, an important facet of the American dream — social mobility – has broken down over time.

And the riots that have followed some protests have not helped their plight, since some of the looted businesses were immigrant-owned.

Here is an idea!  If so many live in poverty, then we need to stop importing them. Clearly there isn’t enough work!  Clearly they are ungrateful.

Frankly more angry demanding refugees, like these Minnesota Africans, will be the death knell of America.

By the way…..

Where were all these angry Somalis (and their African-American “brothers”) marching in the streets demanding justice for Justine Damond when one of their people, a Somali police officer, killed an unarmed white woman in ‘Little Mogadishu’ in the summer of 2017?

That police killing didn’t send white mobs into the streets to demand justice by committing violence, and to rob and steal.  Civilized people respect our legal system—the legal system that is the bulwark of a successful and prosperous country.

UN to Italy and Malta: Let the Mediterranean Migrant Flow Continue!

Invasion of Europe news….

The Chinese Virus crisis has caused legitimate concern to European frontline countries which have been the target of migrant boats launching from Libya.

In recent weeks, Malta and Italy have been forcing ‘rescue’ boats back toward the Libyan coast infuriating ‘aid’ agencies and the UN which claim that, “departures from Libya during the first quarter of the year rose four-fold over the same period in 2019.”

It’s been awhile since I reported on the Mediterranean route to Europe from the north African coast, primarily from Libya.

Hillary and her gal pals are directly responsible for the hell hole that is Libya today.

Just a reminder that the chaos that is Libya today is a direct result of the Obama Administration’s policy then crafted by Hillary Clinton (with Rice and Power) that brought down the government of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, not exactly a decent guy, but his absence opened up the sea route, a fast lane, for the invasion of Europe.

See my Hillary and Libya archive here.

From Middle East Monitor:

UN urges EU member states to disembark rescued migrants

Two UN agencies on Thursday called on Malta and other European countries to speed up efforts to bring to dry land some 160 rescued refugees and migrants from Libya, who remain at sea aboard two private vessels after two weeks, Anadolu Agency reports.

Earlier this month, Italy impounded the German rescue ship, Alan Kurdi, after its latest batch of migrants was quarantined offshore for two weeks due to the virus crisis in Italy.  https://news.un.org/en/story/2020/05/1063592

Middle East Monitor continues:

The UN Refugee Agency and International Organization for Migration (IOM) warned that direct or indirect state involvement through the commercial Captain Morgan vessels in the return of the rescued migrants and refugees to Libya might violate international law.

“UNHCR and IOM unequivocally reiterate that no one rescued at sea should be returned to Libya,” said the statement.

“The misery and risk to life posed by intensifying conflict, arbitrary detention, and widespread human rights violations, amongst other factors, meaning it cannot be considered a place of safety.”

Necessary health measures undermine reception capacities in some Mediterranean States due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, prompting the UN agencies to offer support for the effective and speedy processing of new arrivals.

[….]

The UNHCR and IOM noted that the Mediterranean countries had been at the forefront of receiving sea arrivals in recent years and that their efforts, along with non-governmental organizations’ search and rescue vessels, had prevented many tragic deaths.

“However, the UNHCR and IOM are also deeply concerned about reports that States have been ignoring or delaying responses to distress calls, especially amid a sharp decrease in state-led and NGO search and rescue capacity,” said the statement.

Female Genital Mutilation on the Rise in Africa Due to Chinese Virus (huh?)

The dreadful practice is increasing, says Canadian author and women’s rights activist, Farzana Hassan, because aid workers/support networks are no where to be found due to the virus crisis and the social and economic decline it is causing worldwide.

You can be sure that Somalis resettled by the tens of thousands in America brought some of these “entrenched social norms” with them.

From the Toronto Sun:

HASSAN: COVID-19 brings FGM increase to Africa

Writer Farzana Hassan

COVID-19 has caused widespread illness, death and economic misery everywhere. It has also given rise to social problems, exacerbating crimes like female genital mutilation in the developing world.

Recent reports from Somalia, the country with the highest percentage of FGM, show a disturbing trend. This brutality inflicted on underage girls has reportedly increased during these weeks of confinement and isolation.

This is not entirely unexpected.

In fact, humanitarian agencies across the world predicted the figures would get worse. The economic crisis caused by COVID-19 has resulted in an increase in all forms of violence toward girls, partly because their access to the support networks put in place by humanitarian agencies has been blocked.

Any small gains previously made toward gender equality and the basic human rights of women and girls have suffered a serious blow.

They had been getting this support at school or in the workplace, but now they are confined to their most dangerous environment: home. The pressure is on parents and guardians to provide for them under these economically stressful times. The solution for families is to get these girls married off, and in Somalia only girls who have undergone FGM stand any chance of marriage.

Regrettably, the mutilation is not confined to Somalia. In other African countries, like Sudan and Sierra Leone, the practice is also prevalent. It is a manifestation of entrenched social norms rooted in gross gender inequality right across the continent.

A staggering 98% of African females have endured the painful and traumatic procedure of having parts of their outer genitalia cut off by women who have made a profession out of this. Of these victims, 40% happen to be under the age of 15.

More here.

The first time I ever heard of this sick and depraved practice was when I read Ayan Hirsi Ali’s first book ‘Infidel’ in 2007. The author describes in graphic detail what was done to her.

If you don’t know exactly what the procedure involves, see this short Youtube video:
