US Amphibious Assault ship rescues illegal migrants in Mediterranean, brings more problems for beleaguered Malta

US aids invasion of Europe in more ways than one.

Longtime readers know that we have been following the slow motion disaster for the Maltese people as their tiny country suffers the proportionately largest brunt of the assault on Europe by illegal migrants crossing the Mediterranean, now largely from Libya, where sources tell us that 800,000 would-be “asylum seekers” are poised to break into Europe.

So how are we aiding the invasion beyond picking up 282 mostly men and instead of returning them to Libya our war ship drops them off on Malta?

We (Obama) played a key role in the destabilization of Libya the launch pad for the invasion, and for many years now—starting with George W. Bush—the US State Department has been ‘helping’ by taking some of Malta’s illegal aliens to the US as “refugees” thus adding one more inducement (a ticket to America) for the economic migrants to take the plunge.  (See our extensive archive on ‘Malta.’)

The multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) transferred 277 persons in distress to the Armed Forces of Malta offshore patrol vessel P61, and another five persons were medically evacuated to Malta June 7, 2014.

Bataan and USS Elrod (FFG 55) rendered assistance on Friday to persons in distress at sea in the Mediterranean after receiving a report of a sinking small vessel. Bataan provided food, water, medical attention and temporary shelter.

Bataan launched two Search and Rescue MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopters to investigate. Once on scene, Bataan’s SAR helicopters confirmed a small vessel was sinking. The SAR helicopters then deployed the SAR swimmers to start extracting persons from the water. Elrod deployed their 7-meter rigid hull inflatable boat; Bataan deployed their 11-meter Captain’s Gig and 7-meter RHIB to assist.

282 persons were recovered and brought on board Bataan.

Bataan, with elements of 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the US 6th Fleet area of operations to augment US Crisis Response forces in the region.

So what is the mood on Malta?  A commenter at the Independent gives us some idea:

The USS Bataan should have taken them to Libya where they left from. Who’s fault is it that they were in distress? Am I supposed to feel sympathy for them? Well hell I don’t. They all know where they can go.

All it would take to stop the insanity is for Western leaders to grow a spine and start taking migrants back to Libya or elsewhere in North Africa, encourage the UN to build appropriate camps and then the ‘caring class’ must figure out how to save Africa (in Africa) because it is obvious the migrating masses will soon sink the lifeboat!

EU offers European countries 6,000 Euros for each refugee they take

Malmstroem to EU countries: We will pay you 6,000 Euros/person to take these “asylum seekers” home to your country!

Somehow European Union immigration ‘leaders’ think that paying countries to take refugees from camps will slow the tide of illegal migrants attempting the Mediterranean crossing that has brought tens of thousands to front line countries like Italy, Greece and Malta in the last couple of years (since Obama destabilized Libya).

Meanwhile the UN High Commissioner for Refugees is telling Europe it must take 100,000 Syrians in 2015 and 2016!

Here is the payment plan at World Bulletin:

European Union’s Home Affairs Commissioner urged member states to take more refugees by offering 6000 euro support for each refugee taken from camps outside the EU and resettled in one of the member states.

“I am speaking on behalf of the European Commission in support of the reception and integration of refugees. EU states will receive 6000 euro support for each refugee taken from the refugee camps and resettled in their respective countries,” Cecilia Malmstroem, EU Homes Affairs Commissioner said in an interview with German daily Die Welt.

Malmstroem stressed that due to the ongoing violence and poverty in most of the countries surrounding the EU, more refugees will try to come to Europe in the coming decades with the hope of being granted asylum. EU commissioner criticized European countries for their reluctance so far on taking more refugees which forces more and more refugees to seek insecure and illegal means to reach Europe.  [She must think those who object are really dumb, the same number will attempt to cross no matter how many Europe is plucking from camps.—ed]

“Each year around 80 thousand refugees are resettled, most of them find a new home in the U.S., Canada or Australia,” Malmstroem said. [The US takes 70,000 of that 80,000!—ed] “In 2013, EU countries were ready to receive around five thousand refugees for resettlement, and that is a shame,” she stressed, adding that half of the 28 EU member states did not participate even once in the refugee resettlement programs.

It is pretty obvious from recent European Union elections that this is not going to happen.  And, 6,000 Euros (around $8,000 US dollars) is peanuts to care for a refugee for an indefinite period of time.

But, look at the bright side, if Lefties like Malmstroem and those leaders at the UN keep it up, it will drive Europe to the right much faster.

UN: There will be no refugee camps in Libya/N. Africa

So, the countries of Italy, Greece and Malta will continue to get the brunt of the illegal migration as the ‘invasion of Europe’ continues.

The UN squawks about the deaths of migrants trying to get to Europe across the Mediterranean, but is scared of setting up camps in Libya to hold them (or could the UN actually be supporting the invasion of Europe by mostly Muslim illegal aliens?).

They don’t say they are scared, we do!

Libya is a lawless hellhole largely thanks to the Obama gals—Hillary, Susan Rice and Samantha Power!

From the Times of Malta:

The United Nations is not considering setting up holding camps in North Africa and the Middle East to prevent migrants from making the dangerous sea crossing to Europe.

Contrary to what was reported in The Guardian, an influential UK newspaper, the UN refugee agency insisted it would only explore external processing “under the right circumstances and with adequate safeguards”.

A spokesman for UNHCR in Malta told Times of Malta the agency “was not considering holding camps” as an alternative to address the challenges of refugees and migrants risking their lives at sea.

“Rather, UNHCR is working on a comprehensive set of proposals, focused on saving lives and helping refugees find alternatives to dangerous journeys,” the spokesman said.

The Guardian yesterday reported that the UN was forced to consider the opening of holding camps where asylum applications could be handled in a bid to prevent thousands of migrants crossing the Mediterranean.

Countries like Libya, which is not a signatory to the Geneva Convention on refugees, are not considered safe for migrants by human rights groups.[LOL! and the human rights groups don’t want to go there either!—ed]

The boats will continue to be launched and more migrants will drown, so much for the “responsibility to protect.”

Maine governor’s effort to cut welfare to asylum seekers/other migrants stymied

Maine has a reputation in the country (and probably in Africa too!) as the go-to state for welfare benefits before one is even a legal resident.  In fact, it is the welfare magnet that brought the first of what is now tens of thousands of Somalis to Maine.  (Click here for one of our most-read posts about Maine the welfare magnet).

On Friday, Maine Attorney General Janet Mills ruled that it would be unconstitutional for Maine to disallow social services to those seeking asylum or generally illegally in the state.

Keep in mind that federal laws do not give benefits to asylum seekers UNTIL they have been granted legal asylum status.  Just because one says one is seeking asylum that does not give them the rights of legitimate ‘refugees.’   Maine has been giving benefits to one and all, thus the flood of migrants to Maine.

The fiscally conservative governor has been trying to stem this budget-bleed since he took office in 2011.

Here is the latest at The Bangor Daily News (emphasis is mine):

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Attorney General Janet Mills has ruled that a proposal by Gov. Paul LePage to bar immigrants and asylum seekers from receiving General Assistance is illegal and unconstitutional.

Health and Human Services Commissioner Mary Mayhew reacted with dismay and said she will continue to pursue implementation of the rule.

The proposed new rule, which was unveiled late last year by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, was meant to align qualification for the state’s General Assistance program with other public assistance programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. In essence, the proposal would block anyone from receiving General Assistance until they receive full U.S. citizenship.

Mayhew said Friday in a written statement that she has revised the rule so that only illegal immigrants — and not legal noncitizens — would be barred from the General Assistance program.

Lewiston, the Somali capital of New England, is one of three migrant-overloaded cities in Maine.

The rule would allow towns and cities to continue to provide the benefit, which is intended as an emergency measure to help individuals and families through financial crises, but without any financial support from the state. In most municipalities, the state pays 50 percent of the benefits, though there are three cities — Bangor, Portland and Lewiston — where state support ramps up to 90 percent after local spending reaches a certain threshold.

General Assistance cost the state and local municipalities a total of $12 million in 2013 and provided an average benefit of $966 to approximately 12,000 people. About 64 percent of that cost was in the immigrant-heavy cities of Bangor, Lewiston and Portland.

Angelina Jolie: Britain and other western countries should welcome Syrian refugees

…..but she has no solution herself to what she calls a “broken” system.

Disney’s Maleficent is to be released in UK cinemas on May 28.

In an interview with Sky News, the American actress condemned what she called the failure of the international community to intervene effectively in recent crises in the Middle East and Nigeria.

Asked by Sky News presenter Anna Jones if Britain and other countries should take in more refugees, Jolie replied: “Yes.”

But she added that the international community’s current approach to such a crisis is “broken”.

Her call for action has been welcomed by The Refugee Council – a UK charity that works with refugees.

Jolie lamented what she called the increasing inability of the international community to solve crises like the recent kidnapping of 200 Nigerian schoolgirls by extremist group Boko Haram.

However, she admitted she could offer no immediate solution herself.

“I do lie awake at night like most people wondering… I cannot get my head around all of the horrors in the world today,” she said.

Are you laying awake at night troubled by the world?  It seems clear to me…..

…. for the Syrian civil war—let them fight it out themselves and then the Syrians who ran for cover should return.  Then there is only one solution for Islamic terrorist groups like Boko Haram, wipe them out swiftly and completely, but no African or Western country has the testicular fortitude to do it.
