Heritage Action: Beware Obama expansion of the definition of ‘refugee’

This is from two weeks ago, but it just came to my attention.  From Heritage Action Sentinel (hat tip: Joanne):

Refugee Memorandum: President Obama recently issued an executive memorandum that will allow for a limited number of children in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to apply for refugee status if they have relatives legally residing in the U.S. This policy is problematic in that it requires officials to justify the refugee status by loosening criteria. Although this proposal may currently be limited in scope, there is concern the administration would then use this justification to offer asylum to thousands of children here illegally, amounting to a massive loophole for administrative amnesty.

The U.S. is already the number one country of resettlement in the world, accepting 66,200 *** refugees in 2013. Our refugee and asylum policy does not need a politically motivated expansion that would trample current law while inviting another surge of illegal crossings. Congress should respond to any new avenue granting executive amnesty with legislation that stops the Obama Administration from continuing to break the law.

See Heritage’s report by clicking here.

Glad to see that it isn’t just the usual immigration restriction groups sounding the alarm.

*** Eskinder Negash, Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, put the number at 143,000.  Go here to see how he gets that number.

Germany: Seven million dollar hotel for migrants; Somalis ungrateful for German hospitality

Invasion of Europe continues as Germany falls all over itself trying to convince the world what good people they are!

The first part of this story is bad enough—opulent hotel bought by city of Cologne (site of those riots about ten days ago) for a refugee shelter for mostly Muslim asylum seekers.  But it is ten paragraphs down before we get to the part that should make your head explode!

From NBC News (emphasis is mine):

COLOGNE, Germany — With its wood-paneled piano bar and luxurious spa, the four-star Bonotel assures visitors paying up to $300 per night that it meets the “international standard of a first-class hotel.”

But starting next year, the hotel’s marble-and-mirrored lobby and “quiet, peaceful ambience” will play host not to indulgent travelers but desperate asylum seekers.

Germany’s fourth-largest city spent almost $7 million to buy the Bonotel this summer. Its doors will soon be shut and its 93 opulent rooms filled with asylum seekers, a move underscoring how Europe’s economic powerhouse has been overwhelmed by an influx of people seeking a better life amid a continent-wide border crisis.

According to U.N. figures, Germany received 109,600 applications for asylum last year — the most of any country in the world. The U.S. was second, with 84,400.

Read on and learn that German employees will be losing their hotel jobs.

Unbelievable!  Somali asylum-seeker who came illegally to Europe across the Mediterranean has the audacity to say that the German government isn’t giving him enough stuff!  And, WTH, look at the medical costs he is foisting on the German taxpayer.

Mubarak, a Somali refugee who like others at the center [a different center in Cologne as the opulent hotel is not yet open—ed] declined to give his last name citing fears of retribution from German authorities for criticizing them publicly, told NBC News that conditions are so poor he has become disillusioned with his new home.

“I wanted to get to a place where I could start a different life,” he said, recounting his 18-month journey through African deserts and a treacherous voyage across the Mediterranean Sea — a route which has claimed the lives of more than 3,200 people this year. “But I don’t believe in Germany any more. The people in Germany are good to us, but we need more help.” [So if they survived the illegal boat trip across the Mediterranean they somehow deserve more welfare handouts?—ed]

He shows a doctor’s note from when he arrived in Cologne. It confirms that he suffered from tuberculosis, hepatitis B and post-traumatic stress disorder. It also states that because of illnesses, his living conditions should be improved.

But nothing has changed. Months later, he still shares a room with three others. Four metal bed frames with thin mattresses line the wall. Another stands upright in the corner, in case someone else needs to sleep here, although there is barely any floor space left. The communal bathrooms are at the end of the hallway.  [Oh, boo-hoo!—ed]

“We live like animals, not like people,” said Maruf, a Somali roommate.

Just watch, the next thing we know Mubarak and Maruf will be given a room at the Bonotel!

Me thinks it’s time for another demonstration in Cologne.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa: Rwandan refugee charged with naturalization fraud

The next time you hear one of the advocates for refugee resettlement claim that the screening is very thorough, remember this case!

I think one of our problems (well, the do-gooders’ problems) is that we (they) can’t wrap their minds around the incredible lies refugee wannabes are willing to tell.    See all of our posts on lying (and other criminal) Rwandan refugees by clicking here.

From The Gazette (Hat tip: Joanne).  Emphasis is mine:

Can you believe it? Ken Ngombwa allegedly lied to get into the US as a refugee.

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man who is originally from Rwanda was charged Tuesday in federal court with naturalization fraud.

Ken Ngombwa, 54, is charged with one count of unlawfully procuring or attempting to procure naturalization or citizenship; one count of procuring citizenship to which he was not entitled; one count of conspiracy to unlawfully procure citizenship; and one count of making a materially false statement to agents of the United States, according to an indictment.

The indictment said Ngombwa attempted to obtain citizenship for himself and family members who accompanied him to the United States from Rwanda from March 1998 through Nov. 19, 2004.

Ngombwa and others allegedly made a number of false statements to U.S. immigration authorities, who decided to grant Ngombwa refugee status and permanent resident alien status, which permitted him to become a citizen.

According to the indictment, Ngombwa claimed he was the brother of Faustin Twagiramungu, a former prime minister of Rwanda.

Ngombwa appeared in court Tuesday and was released on bond. He was ordered to surrender any passport or travel documents, stay in Linn County, have no contact with potential witnesses and undergo a mental health evaluation.

If convicted, Ngombwa faces up to 30 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine. He also faces loss of citizenship. [So we get to pay for him in prison for 30 years?—ed]

Ngombwa also faces second-degree arson and insurance fraud charges in Linn County District Court. He is accused of setting multiple fires in his home in July 2013 and giving his insurance provider false information about the fire.

So will he and his extended family be deported?

Be sure to visit The Gazette for the arson story involving Ngombwa from earlier this year.

I think the US State Department should be responsible for paying for all of the legal costs associated with THEIR mistake.

Check out this story about how much the lying Rwandan cost us in New Hampshire a few years back.

I know it is still our tax dollars no matter what federal or state jurisdiction foots the bill, but I would still like to see these criminal cases paid for out of the US State Department’s budget.  Maybe they could even reimburse Iowa, Linn County and the city of Cedar Rapids for anything this liar cost the local and state government, even all the welfare they probably are still receiving.

Gainesville, GA: School system doesn’t know how many UACs they are educating; already calling them refugees

The flood of Unaccompanied Alien Children that came across the US southern border this summer is now having an impact on local school systems as school boards and administrators have to figure out how to educate them, some of whom speak rare dialects and have had little formal schooling.  All of this is, of course, going to cost local taxpayers and disrupt learning for many American kids.

Someone has to pay to educate the “children.” Last I heard Georgia got 1,709 of them. http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/orr/programs/ucs/about

Here in the Gainesville Times, we see that officials are already referring to the illegal aliens as refugees.

They are not refugees, but that is what the Obama Administration and the United Nations (which calls the shots!) wants you to believe.

Indeed, it is my view that the whole invasion mess represents the big push to change the internationally understood definition of what constitutes a ‘refugee’—someone who is escaping persecution for reasons of religion, race or political persuasion.

Once they succeed in redefining refugees (asylum seekers) as people escaping crime, the entire system crashes and anyone in the world can claim asylum in America simply alleging that they fear criminals where they live.

Gainesville is in Hall County (the poultry capital), see a previous post on the problems there with the influx of UACs.

From the Gainesville Times on Saturday:

As children from Central America have fled to the U.S. as refugees, some have wound up in Gainesville schools, but officials said they don’t keep track of how many.   [Kind of hard to budget then don’t you think!—ed]

“That’s not a question that we ask,” said Laura Herrington, the district’s director of Title III, a federal program that includes English language learning.

Still, Herrington said the students are there even if there isn’t an exact count.

“I know that we have some who speak dialect, and the dialects that they speak are indicative of some countries in Central America,” she said. “We haven’t asked our students to tell us their stories yet.”

The refugees, she said, are educated in the same program as other students who learn English as a foreign language.

Herrington estimated 30 of about 200 high school students learning English are newly arrived from Central America this year. There likely are more in middle and elementary school, but she doesn’t have a number.

7,000 – 8,000?  Where is that number coming from when HHS’s own website says a whole heck of a lot more (see graph!)?

According the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, an average of 7,000 to 8,000 children enter the Unaccompanied Alien Children program each year, and 93 percent of them from El Salvador, Guatemala or Honduras. The children often come to the United States to escape violence, abuse or persecution, to seek family members or to find work. They sometimes are brought into the country by human trafficking rings, according to the department.

Obama and the UN—they are REFUGEES

The United Nations has pushed the U.S. to treat children from those three countries as refugees displaced by armed conflict, as drug traffickers and street gangs have made the three-country region one of the world’s most violent.

Last month, the Obama administration began a program to give refugee status to some children from those countries in response to the influx of unaccompanied minors entering the country illegally. Under the program, legal immigrants from those countries can request that children related to them be resettled in the U.S. as refugees. [And, thus be eligible for all the welfare goodies official refugees receive!—ed]

Brits take a beating from “rights” group over decision to not fund rescue of migrant invaders from North Africa

Kate Allen, UK Director of Amnesty International: “….dark day for the moral standing of the UK.” Photo: http://www.amnesty.org.uk/blogs/kate-allen

The UK attempts to slow invasion of Europe….

(See our entire ‘invasion of Europe’ series including posts on the boat people problem by clicking here.  Thousands of mostly Muslim aliens have been rescued by the Italian navy and then sneak out of Italy and spread throughout Europe.)

We reported the incredible news from brave Brits the other day—the UK does not want to participate in the rescue of illegal aliens who find themselves in trouble while attempting to break into Europe by sea.  They say that such efforts serve as a “pull factor” for more and more aliens to try to make the dangerous voyage.

But, they surely will be taking a drubbing from the ‘human rights industrial complex’ as we see just beginning here at the news site for the UNHCR:

Thousands more refugees are at risk of perishing in the Mediterranean, human rights groups have warned, as Italy cancels its emergency naval rescue operation.

Rome’s Mare Nostrum mission, which saved 150,000 people fleeing poverty and warzones in Africa in the past 12 months, will be wound down, its budget slashed by two thirds in the two-month phase-out period.

Instead, Europe’s border protection agency, Frontex, launches its Triton operation to help monitor and patrol the waters off the Italian coastline, with resources of just €3m a month – a third of what the Italian navy has been spending in the past year.

“No matter how it is dressed up, Triton is not a search and rescue operation,” said Nicolas Beger of Amnesty International’s European Institutions Office. “As the world faces the worst refugee crisis since the Second World War, the EU must urgently and collectively… plug the imminent gap in these life-saving operations.”

Britain’s refusal to contribute to the scaled-down replacement operation was also decried. “This is a very dark day for the moral standing of the UK,” said Amnesty UK Director Kate Allen. “The Italian navy’s… operation has saved thousands of lives and other European countries should now be stepping up to share that responsibility with them, not shirk it.”
