Obama Administration sends $110 million to Pakistan for refugee aid

This story has been all over the  news (Washington Post, Politico, Fox and more), so surely you have seen it already.

I had planned to post it while it was fresh but I was trying to find out if Clinton and Obama used ERMA (Emergency Refugee Migration Assistance) funds for this.  The fund itself stands at around $100 million and we know the Administration already sent $20 million from the ERMA account to Hamas (oops! Gaza Palestinians), so this Pakistan gift would wipe out the fund.  That $20 million of course has been the source of unending rumors that it was being used to bring Palestinians to the US.  Judy has twice clarified this story here and here  in response to a commenter.

So, if you didn’t see that we are sending $110 million to Pakistan for refugees (in addition to untold millions to Pakistan in general) here is the Washington Post story.  If anyone finds from which pot of money this refugee aid has been sent, please let us know!

The Obama administration said yesterday that it will provide $110 million in emergency aid for Pakistani civilians displaced by recent fighting in the Swat Valley, as a Pakistani military offensive against the radical Islamist Taliban and allied foreign fighters continues to drive people from their homes.

The aid, announced by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, is intended to help the Pakistani government meet the needs of nearly 1.2 million internal refugees who have fled the fighting in the past month in an exodus that U.N. officials say rivals that caused by the Rwandan genocide in 1994. Tens of thousands of Pakistanis are living in tents in squalid, sweltering refugee camps. Others are staying with relatives or host families or have rented temporary lodging.

Read on.

The Politico story (linked above) says that our military is going to give the money and supplies to the Pakistani military and aid groups to distribute.   How much military do we have in Pakistan?

Meanwhile, see this post about why we should not contemplate bringing Pakistani refugees to the US.

IRC to Obama: give us $$$$$ and more refugees

That’s the gist of a letter writing campaign initiated recently by the International Rescue Committee.   It confirms just what we have been saying all along.  The only reform the volag government contractors want to see for the deeply troubled Refugee Resettlement Program is more taxpayer funding for them while keeping the refugee spigot wide open (nevermind that there are no jobs!).

Thanks to a regular visitor to RRW, here is what they are asking refugee industry advocates to say to Obama:

We urge you to renew America’s promise to refugees who are waiting to find safety and freedom in our country. We call on you to take the following steps to modernize the U.S. government’s system for refugee admission and resettlement:

– Provide increased funding to ensure the U.S. refugee admissions and resettlement programs are able to fulfill their goals for providing sanctuary to refugees who need protection.

– Streamline the current system for identifying, clearing and resettling refugees in the United States.

Obama: the Alinsky president

We’ve written about and referred to Saul Alinsky and his Rules for Radicals frequently here, since so much that happens with refugees and community disruption seems to hark back to what Alinsky wrote. Today Jim Geraghty has an article called The Alinsky Administration on National Review Online. He begins:

Barack Obama never met Saul Alinsky, but the radical organizer’s thought helps explain a great deal about how the president operates.‘Relationships Built on Self Interest,’ an idea illustrated by a diagram of the flow of money from corporations to the mayor.”

Alinsky died in 1972, when Obama was 11 years old. But three of Obama’s mentors from his Chicago days studied at a school Alinsky founded, and they taught their students the philosophy and methods of one of the first “community organizers.” Ryan Lizza wrote a 6,500-word piece on Alinsky’s influence on Obama for The New Republic, noting, “On his campaign website, one can find a photo of Obama in a classroom teaching students Alinskian methods. He stands in front of a blackboard on which he has written

The conclusion Geraghty draws is that the goal for Obama, following Alinsky, is power above all and everything is subordinated to that.

Obama is a pragmatist, but a pragmatist as understood by Alinsky: One who applies pragmatism to achieving and keeping power.

….Moderates thought they were electing a moderate; liberals thought they were electing a liberal. Both camps were wrong. Ideology does not have the final say in Obama’s decision-making; an Alinskyite’s core principle is to take any action that expands his power and to avoid any action that risks his power.

….As conservatives size up their new foe, they ought to remember: It’s not about liberalism. It’s about power. Obama will jettison anything that costs him power, and do anything that enhances it — including invite Rick Warren to give the benediction at his inauguration, dine with conservative columnists, and dismiss an appointee at the White House Military Office to ensure the perception of accountability.

What is amazing to me is that while many people, mainly conservatives, saw Obama’s lack of principle and lust for power very early,  most people, including some “conservative” pundits, still don’t see it. But it’s the same kind of people who see what the idealism of liberals does when it plunks down refugees in the middle of an unsuspecting community who also see Obama for what he is. God bless them; they will be the saving of this nation, if we are to be saved.

ACORN revelations and creating crisis

Following up on Ann’s post earlier today, Bring us your poor and angry!, I’m posting  this article from World Net Daily, ACORN born in leftist revolution, by Jerome Corsi. It’s a good short summary of the Cloward-Piven strategy which seeks, to quote David Horowitz’s website Discover the Networks, “to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.”

It has four good links in it, and I’ll give them to you here in case you want to go directly to them for more information.

The first is to the original article by Cloward and Piven in the Nation in 1966 (though registration is required).

Second, the Discover the Networks page is here, and in addition to a very good article on the strategy it has more links to related articles.

Third, Sol Stern had a long and detailed article on ACORN in the City Journal of Spring 2003 titled ACORN’s Nutty Regime for Cities.

And fourth, here’s Jim Simpson’s American Thinker piece from September 28, 2008, titled Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis. Ann discussed this article when it first came out.

One reason I’m writing this post is that we’re sure to write more on the subject and I like to have the links handy.  Over the 1-3/4 years we’ve been doing Refugee Resettlement Watch, we’ve discovered that there is much more to refugee matters than it first appeared. As with many social phenomena, the left finds refugees and refugee resettlement useful for various purposes. Now that we’re seeing revelations about how far-reaching and well-funded ACORN is, we want to know more about where our particular topic fits in and how it is possibly being used to help create chaos and revolution.

Addendum: Jim Simpson just sent me the links to the other two articles in his series on the Cloward-Piven strategy: Part I,  Manufactured Crisis and Part III, Conspiracy of the Lemmings. Part II is the link from the American Thinker, above. All very worthwhile reading for understanding what is going on.

Bring us your poor and angry!

Do you watch Glenn Beck?   He jokes about having ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) so I hope this post won’t sound like I have it too!   He has been doing a series on ACORN recently.  Yesterday he examined the complex financial machinations (using our tax dollars!) of the organization and the many tentacles it has in other organizations all seeming to involve Wade Rathke (friend and fellow Weather Underground member with Bill Ayers).   I told you previously that Rathke is involved with the SEIU (Service Employees International Union) that is busily organizing Somalis.  I have no proof but I bet it’s the SEIU that is training the Muslims at Greeley, CO and Grand Island, NE (new readers, check out our whole category on that topic here) on how to demand religious accomodation at the Swift & Co. meatpackers there.

Anyway, see Glenn Beck’s information on ACORN and watch this clip of Matthew Vadum of the Capital Research Center on yesterday’s program.  The most interesting thing I got from Vadum (among many interesting revelations) is that Rathke and company are following the Cloward/Piven Strategy and attempting to flood the system with welfare recipients as a way of bringing chaos, change and ultimately an end to Capitalism.    From American Thinker in February:

The Cloward/Piven Strategy is named after Columbia University sociologists Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven.  Their goal is to overthrow capitalism by overwhelming the government bureaucracy with entitlement demands. The created crisis provides the impetus to bring about radical political change.

Golly, kind of interesting that George Rupp (IRC head honcho) was President of Columbia Univ. and isn’t that where Obama himself was trained?  But, I digress.

So, is that why these volags (supposedly non-profit groups) are advocating to continue to flood America with more impoverished immigrants?   Sorry to all of you who work in the refugee field who are in it to truly help the less fortunate.  But, I believe this is part of the strategy to “change” America.   And, damn!  The refugees are just pawns as I said yesterday here.    If they aren’t pawns then it makes no rational sense for the Top Ten volags to advocate bringing more and more refugees, and then depositing them on welfare in cities across this country.

I have maintained all along that as Americans generally prospered we were running out of poor people, and thus the immigrants became important fuel for the revolution—the poorer and the angrier the better!

Endnote:  To further understand the concept of the Lefts plans to destroy the American economy by flooding the US with angry poor people (the “have-nots”) see our entire category on Community Destabilization and Saul Alinsky here.
