TPS extended for Somalis (for the umpteenth time)

Why on earth we even have Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalis is beyond me since we already have a massive refugee and asylum resettlement program for them and at a time when Somalia’s President is urging those in the diaspora to come home!

Come home to Somalia!

Readers TPS was started for the primary purpose of helping mostly Central Americans get to stay in the US after they illegally arrived here by the tens of thousands, but didn’t fit into the definition of “refugee.”   They really need to take the “temporary” out of the name of the program.

Supposedly those applying would have been in the US prior to whatever incident (like a hurricane, earthquake, civil war etc.) happened and out of the goodness of our hearts we let them stay on until their country can recover—-some for more than a decade.

So what happens when TPS is not extended?  They stay on anyway.

The 470 Somalis who have been registered in the TPS program can now legally stay for another 18 months!  Who knows how those 470 came to be in the US in the first place (or when!), some may have arrived illegally or over-stayed a visa.

Here is a brief news story from the TC Daily Planet  (hat tip: Tonya):

Temporary Protected Status for nationals of Somalia will be extended by 18 months effective March 18, 2014, according to Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Rand Beers, in a statement to Mshale on Wednesday (Nov. 6).

About 470 Somalis applied for the last extension and redesignation in September 2012, according to a USCIS spokesperson.

Temporary Protected Status, or TPS as it is commonly known, is a designation by the United States Secretary of Homeland Security that “due to conditions in the country that temporarily prevent the country’s nationals from returning safely, or in certain circumstances, where the country is unable to handle the return of its nationals adequately”.

Here is the USCIS website that explains this phoney-baloney program.  And, here are the countries whose nationals may apply at the moment.

Here is a Dept. of Justice site I just found.  It tells us which countries were given TPS and when (except it doesn’t give the date of the designation for Somalis???).

Note that countries like Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador were designated in 1999 and 2001 respectively and have been extended many times—Honduras 18 times! Nicaragua 18 times! El Salvador 10 times!  Why are they (tens of thousands) still here?

When we first began writing RRW, Liberians were allowed to stay under TPS (which allows them to work, get drivers licenses, etc), but I see the program for Liberia has ended.  However, we didn’t deport the Liberians who had taken root in certain American cities, instead they have hunkered down and are waiting for ‘Comprehensive Immigration Reform’ to receive amnesty surely like all the others whose TPS has expired!

In fact, the feds are having trouble getting the Haitians signed up because most don’t bother with the paperwork expecting Obama will soon legalize them all anyway.

Just a reminder, back in January the new President of Somalia traveled around the US asking Somalis to come home and help re-build Somalia, here.  Excellent idea for those who have gained skills at US taxpayer expense—help Somalia recover and let’s stop the refugee flow to America.

Mediterranean Migration Routes from the BBC

This is a very handy graphic published by the BBC (we like maps at RRW!).   For new readers we have written extensively on the invasion of Europe by Middle Easterners and Africans for years, but this year has seen the greatest increase in the numbers trying to get to Italy as the number one destination.  From there they hope to move on through Europe.   For a chuckle, see yesterday’s post on cannibalism on the way to the land of free meals.

I see there is no major migration route to the Vatican in Rome, maybe we should spread a rumor that the Pope is “welcoming” the stranger!

Isn’t it great how the US and certain European countries destabilized Libya and made it the go-to place for illegal migrants wanting to get to Europe!

See the whole BBC story here.

Just imagine! Something you will not see in Obama’s America

You have probably all seen this by now, but it is worth showing again.

The British government, in apparent desperation, is considering placing more vans like this one around the country.

The UK Telegraph story begins with this:

‘Go Home’ vans could be introduced across Britain, the Immigration Minister has said.

The controversial vans, which carry posters telling illegal migrants to leave the country or face arrest, could appear in more British cities following a trial in London, Mark Harper said.

Warship rescue update! Not Somalis after all!

Reader Charles, from Malta, has alerted us to more news on the latest African migrant boat incident we told you about last night.  Turns out the migrants are not Somalis but come from various African nations and when brought ashore in Malta became violent demanding they be taken to Italy.

I don’t know who made the Somali ID mistake, but I wouldn’t put it past the illegal aliens to initially claim Somali ethnicity knowing the West is bending over backwards to accommodate Somali “refugees.”

Below are the two reports from Charles (emphasis is mine).

From the Times of Malta (yesterday):

A group of 129 migrants arrived at Marsamxett on board a patrol boat – some 24 hours after their rubber dinghy was spotting in rough seas 70 miles south of Malta yesterday.

One was referred to hospital.

The migrants – mainly men – appeared in good health as they disembarked from the deck of the patrol boat. Some were covered by blankets.

Most of them – 70, are from Gambia, 36 from Senegal, two from Nigeria, three from Sierra Leone, one from Guinea, six from Guinea-Bissau, 10 from Mali, and one from Burkina Faso.

Clearly economic migrants!  Not “refugees” or “asylum seekers” escaping persecution!

Then also from the Times of Malta yesterday, rescued Africans got violent when they were placed in detention:

A group of some 130 newly-arrived migrants caused a disturbance at Safi Detention Camp – protesting that they wanted to be sent to Italy.

Informed sources said the disturbance started when members of the group objected to being held at Safi Detention Centre.

They insisted that they wanted to be sent to Italy.

Items were thrown at Detention officers and reinforcements of the Police Rapid Intervention Unit and the AFM were called in.

Photo is from an AFP story that has the nationalities of the aliens listed as well.

For new readers, I’ll bet we have over a hundred posts on Malta over the last 6 plus years.  We follow the island nation’s troubles with illegal immigration because the US State Department (egged-on by the Jesuits of Malta) has contributed to it by turning some Somalis (mostly young men!) who arrived there illegally into “refugees” and sent them to America thus creating a magnet for more illegals to attempt the journey.  Click here for our Malta archive.

Addendum:  Here is a story I don’t have time to post. It is about the pile-up of mostly economic migrants in Libya all hoping to get aboard one of these vessels to Europe.  I wonder what Samantha Power, Hillary and Susan Rice think now about their excellent adventure in Libya—so much for the responsibility to protect!

CIS: Amnesty bill combined with legal immigration will add estimated 32 million new voters by 2036

The Center for Immigration Studies has just released a new report.  The press release accompanying the report begins with this (emphasis is mine):

WASHINGTON, DC (October 10, 2013) — The Center for Immigration estimates that if the Senate Gang of Eight Immigration bill (S.744) becomes law it will add more than 17 million new potential voting-age citizens by 2036. These new potential voters are in addition to the roughly 15 million that the current level of legal immigration will add by 2036. Combined, current immigration and S.744 would create more than 32 million potential voters by 2036.

To place these figures in perspective, the last four presidential elections were decided by 4.5 million votes on average. Even if only a modest share actually vote, the impact of these new votes on future elections will likely be substantial.

Dr. Steven Camarota, CIS Director of Research and author of the publication, comments, “Current immigration policy is adding millions of new voters each decade; the Gang of Eight bill will add millions more.  This is one of the most important consequences of immigration.  Will it result in voters who need or want more government services? [You betcha!—ed] Or, will it reshape American foreign policy? There has been almost no discussion of the impact on the electorate.”
