St. Cloud, Minnesota citizens are entitled to an open discussion about their changing city

Ten years ago this month, RRW published its first of what would be many posts on St. Cloud, Minnesota, a small city targeted by Lutheran Social Services of MN and the US State Department for the resettlement of mostly Somali refugees.

Council member Jeff Johnson surrounded in October 2017     https://www.sctimes.com/story/news/local/2018/05/18/st-cloud-city-council-member-jeff-johnson-refugee-resettlement-program/602537002/

When blog partner Judy wrote this post about the mistreatment of a service dog by Somali students it was the first time I had ever heard of St. Cloud, Minnesota.
In those ten years we have published dozens of posts on the demographic change there and the controversy it has created.
Our experience has been that the St. Cloud Times has been biased against anyone who wants to have a discussion about the change, but this story by reporter Jenny Berg is surprisingly balanced!  What happened?

Not just the ‘insensitive’ numbers guy: Jeff Johnson keeps refugee conversation going

It is a long story, but really worth reading. I was particularly interested in one theme expressed throughout:

Concerned citizens have a right to expect transparency from government officials at all levels.

In fact, it is that very lack of transparency that gave rise to this blog!
There would be no Refugee Resettlement Watch beginning in July 2007 if there had been an open and honest discussion in Hagerstown, Maryland that year and if the Hagerstown Herald Mail had investigated and explained the details of how the small city in a red county had been chosen for resettlement and how the process would work going forward.
See what I wanted to know in 2007! I’m still working on getting those answers for every American town and city! You have a right to the answers (without having your character slimmed!).

Tennessee appeals earlier dismissal of States' Rights Refugee case

The only state in the nation to attempt to get some control back for the state when the federal government sends them refugees is appealing an earlier decision by a judge to dismiss the case.
This is the latest from the Tennessean:

Tennessee is appealing a federal judge’s dismissal of a lawsuit against the federal government over refugee resettlement.

The Thomas More Law Center, which is representing the state in the case, filed a notice of appeal with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee on Thursday.

The case comes after state lawmakers approved a resolution in 2016 ordering the lawsuit.

Teatro
Stephanie Teatro, co-executive director of the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, said the state’s appeal will “continue dragging our state’s reputation through the mud.”

In the case, Tennessee alleged the federal government violated the 10th Amendment, which says the federal government only possesses the powers delegated to it by the U.S. Constitution and that all other powers are reserved for the states.

When the lawsuit was filed in March 2017, Tennessee became the first state in the nation to sue the federal government on the matter using such grounds.

Tennessee argued that the federal government was not complying with the Refugee Act of 1980, which was designed to create a permanent procedure for the admission of refugees into the United States.

Lawmakers have previously said the lawsuit is necessary to halt all refugee resettlement to the state until all associated costs are paid by the federal government.

Organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee and the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition have frequently slammed the lawsuit, saying it will negatively affect the state’s refugee community and perpetuate a culture of fear.

Minnesota: Opposition to Welcoming America is growing….

…..as more citizens are waking up to Leftwing community organizing tactics!
The Winona Daily News published a story last evening that is mostly meant to show that opposition to Welcoming America is coming from a bunch of nativist naysayers, but for me it shows how grassroots activists (paid by no one!) have been successful in educating small communities across the upper Midwest about the goals of the Soros-spawned Welcoming America community organizers.

I first heard of Welcoming America in 2013 when they were a featured presenter at a meeting in Lancaster, Pennsylvania put on by the Obama Office of Refugee Resettlement.
The ORR had contracted them to beat back “pockets of resistance” to refugee resettlement.
You should take a moment to read that post.
It is a good thing I quoted the Soros connection directly from Welcoming America’s website at the time because that page is mysteriously absent from their site now!
For the really ambitious among you, please see my entire archive on Welcoming America and its founder David Lubell.  They are your classic, hard Left community organizers promoting diversity is beautiful for your towns (more Democrat voters and more cheap labor!).
But, it is more than that…..

They are changing America by changing the people!

And using taxpayer dollars to do it!

Czech Republic could be next EU exit country, says Gatestone author

Author Josef Zbořil gives three reasons, the first one has to do with the monetary system and the Czech peoples unwillingness to bail out countries like Greece, but it’s the next two reasons that interested me the most.
Here are a few snips from the Gatestone article entitled:

Integrating Islam or Islamizing Integration?

If polls are to be trusted, one of the next countries most likely to follow Britain’s lead and exit the European Union is the Czech Republic. In 2016, after the Brexit referendum, a mere 25% of the Czech public said it was satisfied with membership in the EU. There are three main reasons for this dissatisfaction.

Organization of Islamic Cooperation   https://www.isesco.org.ma/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Strategy-for-Islamic-Cultural-Action-outside-the-Islamic-World.pdf

[….]

The second reason for Czech dissatisfaction with the EU has to do with the desire to retain a national identity, rather than blend completely into a general European “One”.

[….]

The third reason for Czech concern about the EU is that although its original aim may have been to establish inter-European integration — with mutual tolerance and respect even with and towards non-European cultures — it is becoming increasingly evident that immigrants from Muslim countries do not spontaneously integrate. On the contrary, there has been a controlled Islamization of integration, rather than the other way around.

The fear among Czechs is that such a trend will lead, within a few decades, to a dangerous demographic shift and ultimate theocratic totality in Europe as in the Middle East.

This fear was expressed by figures such as Tomio Okamura, the leader of Czech Freedom and Direct democracy party, whose slogan, ahead of the Czech parliamentary elections in 2017, was: “No to Islam. No to terrorists.” Even former social democratic Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka stated: “When we see problems in other European countries, we no longer want Muslims in the Czech Republic.”

The “controlled Islamization of integration” was confirmed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in November 2000, in a document entitled “The Strategy for Islamic Cultural Action outside the Islamic World,” which states:

“The demographic constituents of western countries… will change and become subject to restructuring into a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society. Thereby, western countries will no longer remain that harmonious and monolithic society constituted on the basis of a specific historical, economic, social and cultural lineage….

“Sensing the importance of Islamic communities and minorities in the west… immunize the second, third and even fourth generations of those communities, who settled outside the Islamic world, against cultural assimilation and loss of their Islamic identity.”

[….]

If European integration is to succeed without submission to Islamization, Europeans must choose the path of freedom, and replace empty phrases with practical steps.

More here.
In my opinion, the only practical step that will work is to not admit the hijra-driven Muslim migrants in the first place!
It is demography, demography, demography!

Russian writer at Bloomberg: Hungarians are xenophobic and old

And, according to Leonid Bershidsky writing at Bloomberg, they better get with it because they will demographically die if they don’t admit young Muslim migrant workers.
That is the gist of a too long opinion piece at Bloomberg.  I’ve snipped just a bit of the article entitled:

Hungary Is Winning Its War on Muslim Immigrants

zolton kovacs
Is Hungarian Zoltan Kovacs “xenophobic” or a realistic observer of the present and past!

Bershidsky:

Orban’s Hungary…..is fiercely against a certain kind of immigrant.

“We’ve been living next to Islam and with Islam for 500 years and we know it’s not going to integrate,” government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs told me in an interview this week. “We treat it as a civilizational problem.”

According to Kovacs, Muslim immigrants create “parallel societies” in the European countries that receive them, and Hungarians want none of that. Indeed — though it may be the result of relentless government propaganda — according to a 2016 Pew Research study, 72 percent of Hungarians have a negative view of Muslims in their country, compared with the EU average of 43 percent.

Sounding exasperated Bloomberg writer Bershidsky opines as he wraps up with this:

The best other European countries can do is demonstrate that Muslim immigrants can be successfully integrated to society’s benefit. It’s a long game, but if it goes well, hard evidence will eventually convince those who don’t understand yet that, unaided, Europe’s aging demographics are unsustainable.

And, my response: what if  Muslim integration doesn’t go well elsewhere in Europe (it doesn’t show promise now!)? It is a big IF!
And, frankly given a choice of dying via an aging proud Hungarian population and dying by becoming a Muslim/Sharia dominant country, I would take the former over the latter.  Wouldn’t you!
