Where did the FY2017 refugees go so far; 34,825 as of this morning

For new readers (and there are many of you!), refugees are admitted on a fiscal year basis. In September of each year, the President sends a determination letter (and report) to Congress and tells Congress how many refugees are proposed for the upcoming fiscal year that begins on October 1 and from which regions of the world they will be taken. Congress’ role is to “consult” only.
Here is Obama’s last determination.
President Trump has already lowered Obama’s ceiling from 110,000 to 50,000. We argue that Trump could go lower still and avoid the Constitutional challenges being raised right now, see here, by lowering the ceiling across the board, across all ethnic groups.
Here at Wrapsnet this morning we see where the 34,825 have been placed in the last 4 and 1/2 months (the US State Department added 395 since yesterday):

Alaska got 32 and Hawaii 3. Texas did not save itself by withdrawing from the program, the Governor must sue as Tennessee is doing!

Syrian refugee files federal lawsuit against Trump EO, wants wife and child in America with him

Reminder! Trump can legally lower the ceiling for the UN/US Refugee Admissions Program across the board!

Think about this, if this sort of case (challenging the Constitutionality of the Trump EO) prevails, could every legal non-citizen in America file cases with big New York City law firms to bring over every family member?
And, frankly, what I find most troubling about stories like this sob story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, is how is it that this MAN left his wife and child behind in a war zone and saved his own skin first! Why does no one in authority ever ask that question!
Big New York City law firm filed the case!

MADISON, Wis. — A Syrian refugee living in Dane County has filed a federal lawsuit alleging President Donald Trump’s executive order halting immigration from seven countries is unconstitutional.

The man filed anonymously Monday to protect his wife and 3-year-old daughter, who are still in Aleppo, from being targeted by military regimes.

He had applied for them to join him in the United States, but his lawsuit filed Monday in Madison says processing was halted Jan. 27 when Trump stopped temporarily stopped immigration from seven predominantly Muslim and indefinitely banned refugees from Syria.

[….]

Attorneys from Holwell Shuster and Goldberg, a New York law firm, are representing the man. More than two dozen cases challenging the executive order have been filed in federal court.

Sec. of State Tillerson knows by now what could be done internally!

President Trump can still legally lower the ceiling on all refugee resettlement!

And, in so doing, wipe out these cases!
See our discussion here yesterday.
An important side benefit of placing a complete moratorium on the program now might be to inspire Congress to reform refugee law!

This morning we are at 34,825 refugees admitted this fiscal year—set the cap at 35,000 NOW!

Moratorium would be in effect until September when the President then sets the ceiling for FY18. This is the leverage the White House has to pressure Congress!

Waiting! Will Trump lower refugee ceiling further?

If so, how low will he go!
Leo Hohmann at World Net Daily talked to several experts here:

If President Donald Trump wants to curtail migration into the U.S. from some of the world’s most dangerous hotspots of jihadism, he has options that would effectively navigate an end-run around the courts.

“We will keep our country safe. That’s what I’m here for… I will give it the best security, so it will happen very rapidly,” Trump said Friday.

His top policy aide, Stephen Miller, said essentially the same thing in appearing on all the major Sunday morning news shows.

One of the options is to simply lower the ceiling on refugee resettlement for fiscal 2017, which began four months ago on Oct. 1.

Trump has already partially exercised this option in his first executive order when he lowered the annual ceiling from 110,000 refugees set by Obama to 50,000. Interestingly, this was the one part of his executive order that was not struck down by the lawsuits filed in Washington state and Minnesota.

[….]

By cutting the ceiling to 35,000, Trump would effectively end refugee resettlement for the rest of the fiscal year extending over the next seven and a half months. That would allow his administration to decide on a better vetting system and determine how high to set the ceiling for fiscal 2018. [And, I would argue that such a moratorium would give Congress the impetus to begin to reform the program! First step would be to remove “church” contractors from federal payroll—ed]

See what the experts say.  I am quoted too!
Don’t forget, even though there is a vocal minority, the majority of your fellow citizens think protecting America is the first priority, here.
Here is where the 2,305 refugees have been placed since the Executive Order was signed (up to this morning). I see we are still at the 34,430 level for the fiscal year, so there is still time to cap at 35,000! From Wrapsnet.

None were placed in Alaska and Hawaii since the EO on January 27th.

Go here and see why it is important for you to let Donald Trump know what you think!

Does Donald Trump know he can cap refugee program now?

You have surely heard all the numbers flying around this morning about how many refugees from the seven originally banned countries have entered the US.  The numbers vary somewhat based on what day (and even time of day) one checks the State Department data base at Wrapsnet.

tillerson-and-trump
Where is Secretary of State Tillerson? It is the DOS bringing those in from the original 7 countries of concern at an accelerated pace.

We heard a couple of days ago from Stephen Dinan at the Washington Times that 77% of the refugees admitted in the week following Judge Robarts’ decision are from the banned countries.
By the way, when I did numbers yesterday I went back to the day after the EO was issued (January 28th until yesterday) and the percentage was less than 50% from the 7 originally banned countries, so in recent days the Dept. of State has rushed in more from the seven targeted countries increasing the percentage.
Trying to recreate Dinan’s numbers for 2/3 to 2/9 I get 75% not 77%.  But, that small discrepancy doesn’t matter because it depends on when in the day on the 9th or even the 8th Dinan ran numbers.
But, that is not the point of this post!
Just this morning Donald Trump tweeted that 72% came from those 7 terrorist-infested countries.

Does the President not know that it is the UN and his own State Department (DOS) admitting them? Does he not know that he has the power to reduce the cap (the ceiling) on the entire program right now?  He did reduce Obama’s proposal of 110,000 to 50,000, but he could go lower and stop this rush in from these countries.

As of today we are at 34,430! Cap it now at 35,000!

(35,000 is not that far off of Bush’s post 9/11 number of 39,554, see here)
This reduction, across the board, was not addressed in the recent court wrangling because Trump clearly has the power! (LOL! Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden and Jimmy Carter gave it to him in 1980!).
Of course a lowering of the ceiling won’t stop all those coming in from the seven terrorist hotspots, but the majority of those entering the US from Syria, Iraq, Somalia and Iran are through the UN/US Refugee Admissions Program.

Where is Tillerson? Where is Trump’s White House staff? Would someone tell him!

After all, the majority of Americans are on Trump’s side with this EO.
