Only a few states where anyone is willing to stand up to Washington, South Dakota is one

A bill being discussed in the South Dakota legislature today represents a rare case where a legislator is willing to stare down the US State Department with a demand that those who live in the state have a right to say “NO” about who is resettled in the state as their tax dollars are gobbled up in the process.

State Senator Neal Tapio, a candidate for Congress, is sending a message.

Here is the AP story at The Seattle Times.   AP obviously assumes the story is big enough to free it from local South Dakota media where it would normally be hidden from national view (so as not to give other states any ideas!).

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota would suspend refugee resettlements from countries on “any federal travel ban list” under a measure awaiting a legislative hearing that critics argue would be struck down by the courts if it ever becomes law.

The bill is set to have its first hearing Wednesday before the Senate State Affairs Committee. Republican Sen. Neal Tapio’s legislation would also direct the state to refuse “chain migration” from citizens of countries on such a list. That system gives advantages to the relatives of legal immigrants.

Tapio, a congressional candidate, said a potential legal challenge would be worth fighting if the bill becomes law. He said the federal government doesn’t have the right to “make your neighborhood less safe.”

“We should fight for our wives and our daughters and our kids and our grandkids,” Tapio said. “This is about the future of our communities and the citizens that live within them.”

The media’s go-to-gal on Islam in South Dakota is back.  Since she thinks she is an expert on the Constitution she needs a refresher course on the 10th Amendment.

Taneeza Islam, an immigration lawyer and executive director of South Dakota Voices for Justice, said the bill’s sponsors don’t understand the “fundamental rights that we have in our U.S. Constitution” and didn’t think through how the proposal would be implemented.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s chief of staff, Tony Venhuizen, told the Argus Leader that the Republican executive opposes the bill.

We have written on many previous occasions about South Dakota, a rare pocket of resistance, where business (meatpackers!) and community leaders have often been out front in saying they want the steady supply of (cheap) labor that refugees and other immigrants represent in the state.

Bipartisan efforts underway to support Samaritan's Purse exec for top UN refugee job

I told you here earlier this month about the long knives being out to destroy the nomination of Ken Isaacs a Veep at Samaritan’s Purse to head the IOM.
President Trump has nominated Isaacs to head the International Organization for Migration which not very long ago was another NGO receiving millions of US taxpayer dollars to do the foreign end of refugee processing in to the US (among other things).  Now they have been officially folded in to the UN.
Of course, I would like to see the IOM squeezed financially, but at minimum the President should not be bullied by this pair (with the Washington Post!).

In my earlier post I said the President should not back down to the long knives  lead by Eric Schwartz and CAIR’s Ibrahim Hooper.
Here is news with the latest on the controversy, hat tip: Richard at Blue Ridge Forum.

A bipartisan group of leading human-rights activists, including a Pulitzer-prize-winning New York Times columnist, has jumped to the defense of President Trump’s choice to lead the United Nation’s International Organization for Migration (IOM), which uses its $1 billion annual budget to promote worldwide cooperation on refugee and trafficking issues.

Trump nominated Ken Isaacs, vice president of the Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse, in January to head the 169-member organization, which holds elections to name a leader but typically defers to United States’ choice to run the organization.

Knife number two: Eric Schwartz, a hard Left one-worlder who ran the refugee program in the early years of the Obama Admin, and is a George SOROS protege.

Isaacs, who served in the Bush administration as the director of the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance at the U.S. Agency for International Development, has spent 30 years organizing large-scale emergency relief programs in some of the most dangerous and desperate places in the world, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Darfur, Iraq, Liberia, Somalia, Eritrea, and Rwanda.

The day the White House announced his nomination, Isaacs was in Bangladesh administering diphtheria treatment to Muslim-majority Rohingya refugees.

Now, two weeks later, lifetime colleagues and allies in the humanitarian community are furiously trying to save his nomination after an Obama State Department official and a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations accused Isaacs of tweeting anti-Islamic and anti-immigrant statements.

In a Washington Post article, the pair of critics took issue with a number of Isaacs’ views, including the belief that the Koran instructs its followers to engage in violent jihad, that Middle East Christians should be given first priority when applying to the U.S. government for refugee status, and that President Obama’s policy of accepting large numbers of Syrian refugees was “foolish and delusional” because some of them could become “security risks” if allowed in the United States.

After the article, Isaacs apologized for his “careless” social media posts and vowed to lead the IOM with “the highest standards of humanity, human dignity, and equality,” if chosen.

The paper later editorialized against the nomination, arguing Isaacs’s views were “venomous,” demonstrated “bigotry,” and that his leadership in the post would be “an embarrassment to the United States.”

Church World Service and HIAS join CAIR to protest at White House

We told you here that three US federal (taxpayer funded!) resettlement contractors were helping to organize a protest against the President’s so-called Muslim ban yesterday.

Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service activists were likely lurking, but Church World Service and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) were front and center of the small gathering.

Breitbart’s Penny Starr reported the news.  Here is an enhanced screenshot photo from that report.

Protesters gathered at Lafayette Park outside the White House on Saturday to slam President Donald Trump on the one-year anniversary of an executive order he issued to protect Americans from immigrants and refugees coming from terror-ridden countries with little or no vetting.

“We strongly condemn, like you, the racist and white supremacist beliefs reflected in President Trump’s remarks, actions and programs by this Muslim ban, the cancelling of DACA, the labeling of Black Lives Matter as identity extremists — a false designation,” Robert McCaw, director of Government Affairs Department of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said at the protest.

“We will fight the white supremacy of this administration,” McCaw said.

Church World Service is 71% federally funded (by my most recent accounting, here). Its CEO makes a quarter of a million annually.


What an insult that we fund them millions of our dollars every year for decades!

If you belong to any of these churches (below) know that Church World Service was representing you outside the White House yesterday.

They also hold the annual “Crop Walk,” so if you disagree with their political tactics you need to start speaking up!

Refugee contractors planning 'Week of Action' against Trump

Where is Congress? The US taxpayer should not have to pay ‘non-profit’ groups who engage in Leftwing community agitation against the President!

Cut their funding, for goodness sake!

Adding insult to injury they are aligning themselves with the hardest of the Hard Left like CAIR, the ACLU, Indivisible, and Move-on.org. in the upcoming #NoMuslimBanEver event!
Just now I did my regular visit to the Refugee Council USA (lobbying consortium for refugee agencies) website and see this huge banner headline:

We told you about their anti-Trump rally last fall, here.  Now they plan a week of it in various locations around the country.

And, RCUSA directs people to this ACTION TOOLKIT.
You need to go to the toolkit and take action too—just use their model!
Also, see if a rally is being planned near you, if so, counter it in some way!  The important thing, no matter how you do it, is to get the message to your fellow patriotic citizens that these groups (including many of your own faith-groups) do not speak for you!

Readers, you have two choices: speak up or quit your church!
If you are a member of one of these faith groups (btw, many mainstream Protestant churches are member communions of Church World Service) and disagree with them joining CAIR etc. against the President, you must start to speak up in your church or synagogue! The cultural Marxists knew they had to get to the churches to change America and they are doing it!
The number in parenthesis after each is the amount of their income provided by you (from the US Treasury) in 2015.
It must end! Are they going to be ‘humanitarian’ groups helping refugees or are they Leftwing community agitators? If Anti-Trump community organizers, cut them loose from the federal teat!
They can have their free speech, but not with our money!

South Dakota legislator wants more information on refugee costs, opposed by Lutherans and Muslim activist

If you are a new reader, you might want to catch up by having a look at my South Dakota archive especially as it relates to meatpackers and manufacturers (and mayors!) there pushing for ever-greater numbers of refugee workers. South Dakota was on my 2016 road trip to see some of those situations first hand.
And, see my previous post this morning to see who and what this South Dakota Senator is really up against—big powerful moneyed interests on the national level.

PIERRE — A state senator on Monday said he would convene a legislative panel to evaluate South Dakota’s immigration and refugee resettlement programs with an eye toward the cost to taxpayers.

Sen. Neal Tapio, a Watertown Republican and likely U.S. House candidate, said he was worried about the added expense immigrants and refugees placed on the state and local governments.

“Each level of government has expended costs but we don’t know what the costs are,” Tapio said. “We have to understand the impact these groups are putting on limited financial resources of our state.”

Refugee resettlement advocates said they hoped Tapio’s panel would highlight the positive aspects of bringing refugee and immigrant groups to the state including cultural diversity and long-term boosts to workforce and earnings.

[Republican] Gov. Dennis Daugaard said the efforts to probe the state’s immigrant and refugee placement procedures weren’t needed.

While the workgroup has not yet met formally, Tapio said members would weigh bringing legislation rescinding the state’s agreement to allow Lutheran Social Services to resettle refugees in South Dakota or requiring additional state oversight over LSS.

Lutherans find laborers for big business. Taxpayers fund Lutherans for that service. In fact, LSS’s mothership, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service headquartered in Baltimore signed two contracts with two BIG MEAT companies in 2017.  See here and here.
I had to laugh about this LSS CEO bragging about transparency with refugee resettlement. What a joke!

“It’s our commitment to be very open and transparent with our information with our work with refugee resettlement in South Dakota,” Oldenkamp said, “and I think we have a good history of providing that to elected officials.”

Not a surprise that immigration lawyer Islam opposes any study of economic impact of migrant labor:

Taneeza Islam, executive director of South Dakota Voices for Peace, questioned the need for such a workgroup and said Tapio’s calls for an investigation put “immigrants, refugees and Muslims in real danger.”
