Missoula, MT refugee arrivals could begin in August, most will be Muslims

This is the latest from Montana, a state which hasn’t had any refugee flow for a number of years, but is now about to get its first resettlement office.  We have been following the controversy for months and urge you to go here and review the political strife in Big Sky Country over the plan.

Bob Johnson IRC
IRC’s Bob Johnson said he was instructed by his superiors in New York to not discuss recent Islamic terror attack against gay night club in Orlando. Photo: http://www.rescue.org/blog/bob-johnson-refugee-resettlement-director-seattle

Early on, suggestions were made by the proponents and those carrying the water for the International Rescue Committee (the primary federal refugee resettlement company in charge of the office), that there probably wouldn’t be Syrians in the initial flow. But, it seems all that has changed and that most of the refugees that could be chosen for Montana are in fact Muslims.
Here is the news at the Missoulian:

Bob Johnson, a senior adviser for the IRC’s Seattle office, returned to Missoula this week to make preparations for the reopening of a refugee resettlement office. He said the agency for whom he’s worked 40 years instructed its people to abstain from commenting publicly in the wake of the Florida shootings.

Announcement of the Missoula office’s executive director is still a couple of weeks away, and it now looks like it’ll be August before the first refugees arrive in town. In March the IRC contracted with the U.S. State Department to resettle up to 100 refugees in Missoula in the first year, a figure that can be adjusted up or down in subsequent years.

The State Department approved a staff of 2 1/2 in Missoula – the executive director, a caseworker and a half-time finance manager. The latter two jobs are still being advertised.

The IRC says it will give from two weeks to two months notice of where the first refugees will come from, said Mary Poole of Soft Landing Missoula, the volunteer organization that successfully made the case to the IRC to open the Missoula office.

[….]

What is clear is there’s a better chance than first thought that some of the refugees will come from Syria. The U.S. has been slow to meet President Barack Obama’s pledge to resettle 10,000 displaced Syrians this fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30. National Public Radio reported this week that so far that number is just 2,800, but a White House National Security spokesman said the U.S. remains committed to the president’s plan.

Virtually all Syrians arriving in the US now are Muslims. Of course Afghans and ROHINGYA*** are Muslims. Most of those from DR Congo are very needy, mentally troubled, but mostly non-Muslims. Does Missoula have good mental health facilities?

An IRC official in April told a reception hosted by Soft Landing that because Missoula has no established nationality base of refugees, it’s likely that its first families will come from a population that has no family ties in the U.S. According to the Missoula Independent, those could be Syrian families of four to 10 members; Afghans; families and single-woman households from the Republic of Congo; or Rohingyas, an ethnic Muslim minority from Myanmar (Burma).

What a wonderful coincidence, the schools in Missoula have been teaching Arabic (the number one language of refugees entering the US) for a few years already!

The 6-year-old Arabic language and culture program in Missoula’s three public high schools was another unexpected asset to the IRC.

And, if you feel like it, visit reporter Jared Goyette’s piece from several weeks ago.  It is a typical warm and fuzzy, touchy-feely discussion about how one opponent of the plan got friendly with a proponent of the plan.  I have been meaning to write about it, but the only point I need to make is this:  Mary and Drew are nice people, but don’t fall for the emotional stuff that Jared is peddling.

You have every right to question, in a clear-eyed unemotional way, public policy in your state that will effect your wallet, your safety, your health and the social cohesion of your community forever!

***Learn more about devout Rohingya Muslims here.  We have 189 posts on this ethnic group and only yesterday we mentioned that we are admitting them to our towns and cities now by the thousands.  Remember this! The Rohingya are not our problem.  They have been fighting for decades with the Buddhists in Burma.  We did nothing to make the Rohingya our responsibility!  (Not that any others are ours either. But, the Left loves to tell us we are responsible for wrecking Iraq and so those are ours!).

They must be getting ready to seed Syrian refugees into Billings, MT

marching menOr, why bother to hold a public meeting there to discuss Syrian refugee resettlement?
I don’t know how much subscriber overlap there is with my other blog American Resistance 2016! so I am cross-posting the news account I just posted there.  It is not so much about refugee plans for Billings as it is a discussion about how government and other entities will use something called the ‘Delphi Technique’ to quell public controversy and make it look like citizens are not at odds over whatever plan the government has in the works for the unsuspecting community.
Please go here and read about the Delphi Technique!  I will bet many of you have seen this done where you live with all sorts of controversial political issues!

Surprise! Missoula, Montana expected to get mostly Muslim refugees after all

Update April 28th:  A little inside baseball about how Missoula got so lucky to get a refugee office, click here.
Have you been following our posts on the plan to open Montana to refugee resettlement?  If not, click here for background (no time for rehashing!)
In this news story from the Missoula Independent about a phony letter that was sent to the US State Department that purported to rescind an earlier invitation by the county commission for the federal government to start sending refugees to Montana, we learn this much more important news toward the end of the article.

Bait and switch!

Mary-Poole-Soft-Landing-Missoula-jpg
Mary Poole of Soft Landing Missoula. Will she be the resettlement sub-contractor for the International Rescue Committee? Poole tells the Missoula Independent that she is so excited to be welcoming Syrian Sunni Muslims to Montana!

(Other ‘welcoming’ cities pay attention! You will not get what you have been told!)
In earlier news accounts the feds and the International Rescue Committee suggested that Montana wouldn’t get Syrians, but what do you know, all of that has changed because the Obama surge is on the way!
Not only will they get Syrians (99% at the moment are Sunni Muslims), but they will get refugees from Afghanistan and from Burma who are Muslims too!

Rohingya are Burmese Muslims that up until a few years ago the State Department did not consider for refugee status to America!

Here is what the Missoula Independent is reporting now!

When the IRC’s request was approved, the prospect that refugees placed in Missoula would actually originate from Middle Eastern countries such as Syria seemed slim, as Syrians make up a small portion of those currently entering the United States.

However, IRC officials now say resettlement of Syrians appears more likely. Most refugees who relocate to the U.S. are placed with relatives, but Missoula’s fledgling program will likely draw from the roughly 30 percent of all arriving refugees who don’t have U.S. family ties. [When you get refugees with no ties, this is truly a SEEDING process—ed]

IRC officials explained the outlook during a Thursday reception hosted by local refugee advocate group Soft Landing Missoula. They told attendees the Missoula office expects initial arrivals may include Syrian families ranging in size from four to 10 individuals [big subsidized housing apartments available?—ed], Congolese families and single woman-headed households, Afghans or Rohingyas from Myanmar.  [Congolese*** are mostly non-Muslim, but all the others listed here are Muslims!—ed]

Ambitious readers! To learn more about the very ‘devout’ Muslims known as Rohingya, please see our category entitled ‘Rohingya Reports’ with 188 previous posts going back years.
Then this:

We were kind of operating under the impression that there might not be a possibility of us getting Syrian refugees for quite a while, and that seems to have slightly shifted,” Soft Landing founder Mary Poole said at the event, “… so that’s really exciting because they were our catalyst.”

If you live in Missoula, you must ask these county commissioners if they have ever seen the R & P Abstract for your community. I bet they haven’t! If they have, demand that you, the taxpaying public, gets to see it too!

Small town Montana newspaper editor walks into buzz saw on Syrian refugee issue

I have a million more things to write about (and am waaayyy behind), but when this popped up in my alerts just now, I thought it was something you all needed to know—Montanans are trying to save themselves from becoming the newest destination for Syrian and other Middle Eastern and African refugees*** and they are being vilified by Leftists now in charge of small newspapers attempting to control the narrative.

Truthfully, I am not wading into all of the he said/they said.  You can read it all yourself. But, it seems a new newspaper editor penned a piece last week entitled ‘Syrian refugees are not welcome in Sanders County‘ that has angered the rural Montana community and they are letting him know.
First read what editor/reporter Trip Burns said, here.
Then see his response to the criticism, here, including this from a reader, Les Wood of Plains:

I know that you are a new guy in town, but you better know that we watch over and protect our own. We are not so quick to accept a new guy who thinks that he has all of the liberal answers for the world and that we are a bunch of old retired hicks who don’t know which way is up.

Continue reading here.  (I guess we should give him credit for posting all of the criticism!)

You don’t need these small town rags!

I feel like I am beating a dead horse when I say this, but please, all of you in ‘pockets of resistance’ must develop your own alternative media to bypass the Leftwing-controlled corporate media industry. This paper (Clark Fork Valley Press) has a circulation of a whopping 1,466 and is owned by some big corporation called Hagadone Corp. (whoever the heck they are!), see here.
Use your free speech! Get your own facts out on what is happening to Montana by writing blogs, websites, and through other forms of social media!  Go door to door with flyers if you must!

Unfortunately this is one of those days where I have too many demands on my time to be able to write much.

Miliband and Hillary 'vibrant'
David Miliband, the former British Foreign Secretary (and bff Hillary), is the CEO of the International Rescue Committee which wants to seed Montana with third worlders. See Hillary’s big “crush” on Miliband, here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/16/does-hillary-clinton-have_n_359649.html

But, definitely wanted you to see this excellent opinion piece in the Montana Standard about the proposal to re-open refugee resettlement in the state of Montana.
As you know, Wyoming has never had a program, see our recent post by clicking here, but Montana had a tiny program that died nearly eight years ago.  Open borders activists are working now to re-open big sky country to third worlders.
This is Paul Nachman, a Montana citizen activist, who knows just how the program works and opposes it for the state.  Use this piece for guidance when writing letters-to-the-editor where you live.
Montana Standard:

First, refugee resettlement in the U.S. is hardly the work of private, sacrificial charity that one might expect from the names — such as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, and Episcopal Migration Ministries — of prominent national “voluntary agencies,” or “volags,” involved.

Nachman goes on to discuss the International Rescue Committee (the refugee contractor that would like to open its doors in Montana), fraud in the program, and the expansion of the definition of who is a ‘refugee.’
