On ‘Culturist’ immigration law

Wow!  I had no idea that was a real word—culturist.  Mars, you didn’t coin it afterall!

I don’t know this publication but it popped up in one of my alerts this morning—Global Politician.  And, check this out,  this opinion piece is written by a Professor at NYU!  Amazing, how did he get through the multicultural-politically-correct filter at a major University?   John Press, whoever you are, I love you!

The Diversity Lottery must be stopped to combat multiculturalism and internationalism. This immigration mechanism provides visas to nations with low levels of immigration to the United States. This program’s multicultural logic ignores that we have a culture to protect and thereby flaunts our sovereignty. Somali immigration exemplifies the cultural and physical dangers of such a policy. It invite a foreign and hostile cultures onto our shores. We should, at very least, stop Somali immigration until their piracy of our ships stop. Such culturist immigration policies would remind us that we have a culture as well as a duty and right to protect it.

Multiculturalism is an unthinking philosophy. It blocks thought by asking us to celebrate all cultures. President Obama’s formulation says we must “respect” all cultures. This means that we have no judgment towards them. This limits the use of our reason. It means that considering values, in fact, becomes a thought crime as it might invoke choosing some and not others. Our immigration decisions should consider mores, language, and the cultural ability to honor our Founding Fathers and the principles for which they fought.

Professor Press must not know about the Refugee Resettlement Program because that is how most Somalis have gotten into the US, some fraudulently, but he can be forgiven because the program has been wrapped in secrecy for a reason.

Our asylum laws allow people into our nation based upon the concept of international rights. These ignore our sovereignty. But no international right to be in America exists. I have no international right to immigrate to China or be Chinese. Muslim nations restrict the inflow of non-Muslims.

Ban Somali immigration because of piracy, but the Professor probably doesn’t know about the Somali jihadist recruitment which strikes me as a larger concern, in addition to a reluctance to assimiliate.

We should ban all Somali immigration until the piracy stops. Then we should make a review of Somali culture, its compatibility with western culture and the progress towards assimilation of Somalis currently in the U.S.

I didn’t want to post the whole essay, but I couldn’t resist one more point.  Read it all.

Banning Somali immigration would codify culturism. That is, it would legally acknowledge and privilege our western cultural identity. Symbolically it would restore the values and cultural touchstones of honor we have sought to emulate and protect.

I’ll be making a regular visit to Global Politician from now on!

Somali missing youths should soon return home

Update April 22nd:  I can’t believe it, the Obama Administration is considering funding training for security forces for this supposed moderate Somali government in hopes of deterring piracy, here.  More taxpayer funds down a rat hole!

As a starting point, the United States plans to help fund the country’s nascent security force.

Did you hear the news?   The New York Times is reporting that the Somali Parliment has voted to govern Somalia with Shariah Law.  Hat tip:  Mars.  This should be great news for the American Somali families whose sons have gone to fight for al-Shabaab (an al Qaeda affiliate) and a fundamentalist Islamic Somalia.

MOGADISHU, Somlia — Somalia’s Parliament voted unanimously on Saturday to institute Islamic law, a measure lawmakers say they hope will strengthen popular support for the government and siphon it away from the Islamist militias fighting an insurgency here.

The vote ratified a decision by the cabinet last month to adopt the legal code of Islam based on the Koran, known as Shariah.

Okay, so that means the fighting will end, right?

“I am happy with the Shariah,” said Ismahan Haghi Aweis, 24, a student in Mogadishu, the capital. “I hope that the fighting is all over.”

The Shabab, a hard-line Islamist insurgent movement that controls large swaths of southern Somalia, has imposed its own version of Islamic law and vowed to rebel against the government.

We can all be on the lookout for the return of the missing former refugee youths, because afterall isn’t that what they were fighting for—a Shariah government in Somalia?  They can now turn their attentions to the next battle—establishing Shariah Law in Minnesota!

Further thoughts in the a.m.:  You know that report that Janet Reno (oops! Napolitano) released the other day (Judy posted on it here).  When Homeland Security warns of returning radicalized American military men, they must have been thinking of returning American Somali fighters.

Minneapolis resident speaks up about pro-Somali press bias

I wish I had more time to properly analyze this Opinion piece by a resident of the Minneapolis area, Matt Drew.  Unfortunately, I am so frustrated this morning by not having enough time to post and respond to comments.   I have at least a half dozen posts that need to be written.    This issue, refugee resettlement, is growing so large that it would take a couple of full time people to stay on top of it.

Here are excerpts from Mr Drew’s letter to the Star Tribune.  He makes some excellent points that, by the way, help explain one aspect of the Tea Party movement.

Strictly adhering to the clichéd, politically correct paradigm of reporting news involving minorities or immigrants by almost always, no matter the circumstances, portraying them as victims, an April 9 front-page Star Tribune story explored the growing “mistrust” and “anxiety” within Minnesota’s Somali community.

[….]

But the FBI-induced anxiety felt by Somalis is likely nothing compared with the Somali-induced anxiety felt by Minnesota’s non-Somali majority, those who don’t get interviewed by sympathetic Star Tribune reporters because their answers might not fit the liberal template, but who have legitimate concerns that Minnesota has been negatively impacted by a Somali community that, often times, seems more focused on grievance than gratitude, on separation than assimilation.

[….]

For is it not fair, if not obligatory, for Minnesotans to ask questions and have concerns when, in a 15-year span, upwards of 100,000 Third World Somalis have been simply dropped on our doorstep, by the stork of a U.S. State Department that considered Minnesota, and, more importantly, its generous social services, a good fit for the refugees, especially when taxpayers are footing the bill?

[….]

Without question, Minnesota has been changed by the influx of Somali immigrants, and what needs to be asked is if that change is for the better. Is Minneapolis better off today than it was 15 years ago? Because the well-documented clash of cultures, the strain on our health care system, the costs of housing, feeding and educating Somalis, all told, lead to this conclusion: No.

Read the whole letter and consider whether diversity has strengthened this community.

Are pirates funding our missing Somalis?

The links between the Somali pirates and Al-Shabaab have been ignored in the media. The pirates are usually depicted as free-lancers, guys who just want to get rich. But Robert Spencer in a Human Events piece tells us:

…let’s not lose sight of who Phillips’ captors were. His Somali pirate captors are Islamic jihadists, dedicated to the same goals as Osama bin Laden and other jihadists around the world.

In August 2008, when the pirates became especially active off the Horn of Africa, Andrew Mwangura, head of the East African Seafarers’ Assistance Programme, declared that Al-Shabaab, a group of jihadists in Somalia, use piracy to fund their jihad: “According to our information, the money they make from piracy and ransoms goes to support al-Shabaab activities onshore.”

Spencer points out that in paying ransoms, European governments (and shipping companies as well–Ed.) are funding the jihad. He continues:

But now it must be followed up properly, for al-Shabaab has numerous links to jihadist activity elsewhere. Al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen (“Jihadist Youth”) is linked to al-Qaeda and advocates the strict application of Islamic law. It came to the fore in that troubled nation after the 2006 toppling by Ethiopian troops of the Islamic Courts Union government that ruled briefly in Mogadishu. And Mwangura notes that currently “the entire Somali coastline is now under control of the Islamists.” Al-Shabaab now controls more of Somalia than the Islamic Courts Union did even at the height of its power, and its reach extends beyond Somalia. Some of the Somali immigrants who have mysteriously disappeared from the Minneapolis area have been recruited for jihad by al-Shabaab, which has also attracted jihad fighters from around the world to join its efforts to take control in Somalia.

Ann has been following the story of the missing Minneapolis Somalis closely.

Robert packs a lot of information into his column, and here are further important considerations:

Counterterror analyst Olivier Guitta, exploring Al-Shabaab’s connections with al-Qaeda, explained that the group “intends to take control of the Gulf of Aden and the southern entrance of the Red Sea.” This creates an acute problem for Barack Obama. If al-Shabaab does gain control of Somalia, it will not only continue to threaten shipping but will almost certainly expand its jihadist reach beyond Somalia to destabilize the Horn of Africa and work with other jihadist elements in the area, just as it has attracted foreign jihadists to its own cause. What’s more, the Somali jihad could come to the U.S. itself. In January, Newsweek reported about al-Shabaab that “a jihadist group able to enlist U.S. nationals to fight abroad might also be able to persuade Somali-Americans to act as sleeper agents here in the United States.” Al-Shabaab’s al-Qaeda ties make it quite likely that such a thought has occurred to the group’s leadership as well.

Does Obama care about these connections? Does anyone with any power in the federal government care? Or is Obama so dedicated to downplaying the war on terror that he will refuse to connect the dots? What will he do when we are finally attacked again? Probably blame “right-wing extremist groups” and apologize to Muslims for their coming under suspicion.

Somali youths have been missing since 2007!

We’ve been following the story of the Somali missing youths who have reportedly returned to Somalia for terrorist training with Al-Shabaab (an Al-Qaeda affiliate) since the story broke in November, but this is the first time I have seen any mention that Somali youths (former refugees) have been gone since 2007!

Although I could care less about all this touchy-feely yakking about whether these guys missed their McDonald’s and Starbucks, this interview with three Somali young women was revealing and I commend Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) for getting the story.

I guess this MPR timeline needs to be updated!

After some of the men left for Somalia in 2007, they kept in touch by cell phone. Every couple of weeks, Mohamed said she and other friends would get a call from one of the missing men.

“The conversations were never about serious political things,” Mohamed recalled.

The young men asked for news and sounded homesick.

“I remember one of guys complaining about the food situation over there,” Mohamed said. “He told me that he’d do anything to get a fast-food restaurant, like a McDonald’s.”

Or a Frappacino.

“One guy was caffeine-addicted,” said Mohamed, “and when he came there, he just had headaches all the time and he wanted to get a Starbucks.”

Somalia was a shock to their systems. Some complained of malaria.

They were calling friends back home and no one said anything to authorities.*

In 2006, Somalia was invaded by neighboring Ethiopia, triggering a patriotic response from Somalis worldwide. Mohamed thinks her friends saw themselves as “freedom fighters” but became disillusioned with their mission.

“I remember one of them kind of saying that he hated the weather, and he hated the place … and he wanted to come back home and he didn’t know how his parents would take it because he didn’t tell them anything. He just ran off,” Mohamed said.

[…..]

That was in February of 2008. Shortly after that, the U.S. State Department designated Al-Shabaab, the hard-line Islamic militia the men were believed to have joined, as a terrorist group.

The three women say that’s about the time the phone calls ended.

Let’s see, do we cover for our terrorist kids or inform US authorities?  Obviously the answer was cover for their kids because we didn’t learn about any of this until late fall 2008!

“If their kids are being labeled as terrorists, it kind of makes the parents step back and say, ‘Should we have told? Or should we have just kept our mouths shut?’ And ‘What would have been better for our kids?'” Qaxiya said.

[….]

Mohamed said she hasn’t heard from any of the men since last May. A Facebook message she sent to one man who has reportedly returned from Somalia went unanswered.

Well, so much for us taking comfort that the FBI has been on top of this case, they and Homeland Security apparently didn’t even know we had Somali-American men leaving for terrorist training as early as 2007.   Some have even been trained and returned to the US before the FBI began investigating in the fall of 2008.  FBI, where are they?

* I have another post planned, watch for it later today, on the issue of Somalis not telling authorities.   Update:  Here is the promised post only two days late!

For new readers, the US State Department has admitted over 80,000 Somali refugees to the US in the last 25 years and then last year had to suspend family reunification because widespread immigration fraud was revealed through DNA testing.
