Newsbusters suggests pro-Muslim bias by most media in Somali shoot-up case

On Saturday night, three Minneapolis Somali guys wanted to attend a party in a trailer park and when they were told they weren’t welcome they went back to their car, got a gun and shot up the trailer leaving a bunch of people wounded.  That’s the gist of the story.  However, Newsbusters has noticed that almost all media reports on the weekend shoot-up left out the names of the perps even though none are minors.

Here is something that you NewsBusters fans can help me with because I am having difficulty deciding what is going on with this one. We have a shooting incident in Minnesota perpetrated by three Muslim Somali immigrants but for some reason almost every single media report about the incident omits the names of the shooters, names of obvious North African or ethnic origin. So, the question is, did the Old Media in Minnesota purposefully leave the names unreported so that they could cover up the fact that the criminals were Somali immigrants? And, if so, why would they do this?

[….]

Even the Associated Press skips naming the perpetrators.

It isn’t until the Saint Paul paper, the Pioneer Press, covers the story that we get the names of the “three suspects.” It turns out those jailed by Lakeland police were “Mohamud Ahmed Hassan, 19, and Hamad Ahmad Issak, 21,” and that a teen named Jibril Farah Mohamed who was connected to them. Jibril Farah Mohammed was released without being charged.

Why is it that only one news source listed the names of the arrested? Was it because the perpetrators were Somalis?

One commenter named ‘ekslib’ answers succinctly:

D-U-H!

Then here is a comment from ‘No jelly’* I found interesting:

Actually, if you give it some thought, the more dangerous people in this scenario are the mindless do-gooders who dump these criminals on our city streets sans any education, english, or prior criminal history investigated.

Somalis, Hmong, Bosnian, all given arbitrary “refugee” status (oh yes, that word is now rendered to meaningless pap), a car, a place to live in a strange yet American city, and a whole populace of unsuspecting victims upon which to pounce. The benevolent perpetrator of this criminal onslaught? Lutheran Social Services, for one. They neither have a clue nor want one regarding the thugs and terrorists they inflict upon us, and the government turns a blind eye…

Violent crime rates in relatively small communities like Fargo are skyrocketing, and the names in the police blotters are un-pro-nouncable.

Go to the Newsbusters link above, read the whole story and throw in your theories.

*’No jelly’ must be from Fargo.  If anyone knows him or her, we would like to know if any refugees participated in the sand bag operation there that Judy reported on yesterday, here.

For new readers, the US State Department has admitted over 80,000 Somali refugees to the US in the last 25 years and then last year had to suspend family reunification because widespread immigration fraud was revealed through DNA testing.

NPR reported that four missing Somali youths are believed to have returned

Here is a report from Friday (when I was away) from National Public Radio telling us that it is believed that four missing Somali youths have returned to Minneapolis (presumably from Africa and terrorist training), but have mysteriously disappeared from sight again.

NPR has learned that as many as four of the travelers have come back to the U.S., and NPR’s Dina Temple-Raston, who has been reporting on this unfolding story for months, tells Renee Montagne that the men have been seen around the Cedar Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis, where the Somali community in the Twin Cities is centered. Sources in the community said it now appears the young men have gone underground.

I don’t buy this story that they just reappeared in their neighborhood.  If they arrived by plane from abroad somewhere they would have been picked up right at the airport. I’m still theorizing that some may never have left the country, but then the question becomes, where have they been?

Canadian Somali youths have gone off to terrorist training too

Although mosque leaders are denying it,  a Canadian senior official is saying that as many as 30 Canadian Somalis (former refugees) have gone off to join al-Shabaab.  Hat tip:  Weasel Zippers.

From CBC News:

A leader in Canada’s Somalian community is dismissing reports of young people being recruited by an al-Qaeda-linked militia to fight in Somalia, despite evidence it is occurring in the United States and elsewhere.

[….]

However, a senior federal government official with knowledge of Canada’s security services has told CBC News that Somali-Canadian young men have indeed joined the al-Shabab militia.

[….]

The federal Canadian official — who would not agree to be named because he is not authorized to speak publicly — estimated al-Shabab recruiting may have involved as many as 30 Somali-Canadian youths.

Shelbyville, TN and Somalis in the news again

Yesterday, Christian Broadcasting News presented a detailed look at the “culture clash” in this small southern town that has been flooded in recent years by Somali refugees seeking work at the Tyson chicken plant nearby.   We have written extensively about Shelbyville, a town I am hoping to visit this spring.

To set the scene:

At first glance, Shelbyville is your typical sleepy southern hamlet. It’s nestled in middle Tennessee, where the walking horse is king.

There’s Main St., the local sheriff, a movie theatre. It’s all very “Mayberry,” except for one big difference: the recent arrival of hundreds of Somali Muslims.

Small Town Having Difficulties

Shelbyville is about an hour’s drive from Nashville, in the heart of the Bible Belt. Like many Americans, the citizens of Shelbyville knew little about Somalia other than the 1993 Black Hawk Down incident, in which 18 U.S. servicemen were killed while battling warlords and Islamic jihadists in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

So when hundreds of Somalis began turning up in the town–many of them dressed in traditional Islamic garb–locals quickly took notice.

“They’ve had an impact here. Unfortunately, it’s not been a good impact,” said Brian Mosely, a reporter for the local Shelbyville Times-Gazette.

Mosely won an award from the Associated Press for a series of articles he wrote for the paper about Shelbyville’s Somalis. [Mosely’s reports are here.]

“I found that there was just an enormous culture clash going on here,” he said. “The Somalis were–according to a lot of the people I talked to here–were being very, very rude, inconsiderate, very demanding. They would go into stores and haggle over prices. They would also demand to see a male salesperson, would not deal with women in stores”

But no one taught them how to behave, says a Somali leader in Nashville.  Some federally contracted refugee resettlement agency was responsible for them at one point, so why weren’t they taught about American cultural practices?

Abdirizak Hassan is the director of the Somali Community Center in nearby Nashville. He says the state of Tennessee has no programs to help immigrants integrate into their new surroundings.

“They come, and the only thing they can do is go to work, and then after work they go back to the apartment,” Hassan said. “They’re totally isolated and there’s no interaction between them and the locals.”

I guess Mr. Hassan has put his legal problems with the US government behind him and readers should know that the Somali Community Center he heads has changed its name.  Go here to learn about the financial funny business that Hassan and the Center were embroiled in in 2007.

So some want to go home, my that is “rare.”  [for new readers, I am being sarcastic, we are hearing of more and more cases of refugees wanting to go home.]

He added that some have even expressed a desire to return to Somalia.

“A lot of them face eviction. They put them in an apartment complex that costs $600 a month. They can’t get a job that gives them that much money,” Hassan explained.

As I said before, the volags, the federal contractors resettling refugees, should have funds to buy plane tickets for any refugees who would like to return to Africa, the Middle East or wherever.

For more information on why the Somalis might intentionally isolate themselves, see Jihad Watch here.

Here is an archive of all the posts we have done mentioning Shelbyville.  If we had known it would be such a hot topic starting more than a year ago, we would have created an entire category for it.

Another refugee who went home

We are told it is “rare” for refugees to go back to their homeland, it may well be, but I think there are more than we are told about.   It would undermine the refugee resettlement program if too many of these cases were made public.

Buried in a puff piece on refugees in North Carolina is this little bit of information about a homeless African refugee.

It can take up to five years to assimilate, Ognodo (director of the Neighborhood Good Samaritan Center)  says, but some never do. In December, Ognodo said he found one former student homeless and involved in drugs. The teen’s father had died. The youth had stopped visiting the Samaritan Center. Ognodo helped send him back to family in Africa.

Reform needed:   If a refugee wishes to return home, his or her airfare should be paid by the volag (government contractor) whose job it was to resettle the refugee in the first place.  The volag should also use its own funds and not taxpayer money for the plane ticket!   It would be a way of identifying which volags were not doing a good job of caring for and assimilating refugees.
