Now we are taking Australia’s illegal immigrants!

We’ve written extensively about the US State Department’s policy of taking aliens who arrived in Malta* illegally and magically turning them into “refugees”  destined for the US.  Legitimate refugees and asylum seekers are to request asylum in the first country in which they land, not expect to be moved on to other countries, but that is just what this Malta policy model is encouraging.

Now, comes word we are taking Tamil “bachelors” who attempted to get into Australia and ended up in a lengthy stand-off with Australian Customs authorities and the Indonesian government and resettling them in Oakland, CA.

From the Contra Costa Times:

OAKLAND — They were jailed in Indonesia, stranded in Romania and rescued by Australia off the coast of Sumatra, all in the last eight months.

So it was a big relief to Nisanth Segaranantham and his friends when they landed in Oakland last month. The 27-year-old Sri Lankan refugee is savoring his freedom to roam the city, shop for his own groceries and look for a job.

“We can go anywhere, anytime, anyplace, no problem,” he said.

Segaranantham was one of 78 Sri Lankans who crowded aboard an Indonesian fishing boat and set sail for Australia in October. As ethnic Tamils, they faced discrimination in Sri Lanka and hoped to find political asylum in Australia. But the ship began sinking on the way.

I told you here about plans to resettle the 78 (never identified at that time as Tamils) to other countries but he US was not mentioned.

They threatened to kill themselves if Australia didn’t take them.  Now, not surprisingly, they are thrilled to be here!

Australia did send help — a customs patrol vessel called the Oceanic Viking. Once rescued, however, the Sri Lankans refused to get off the customs ship and demanded assurance Australia would welcome them to its shores. Some threatened to jump to their deaths in the Indian Ocean if they did not find refuge.

The result was a weeks-long diplomatic row between Indonesia and Australia, neither of which wanted to take custody of the migrants. So controversial was the impasse that it dented the popularity of Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and fueled a war of words in the Parliament. A weak response, Rudd’s critics said, would send hundreds more asylum-seekers sailing to Australia in rickety boats.

That controversy continues, but Segaranantham and Sivabalasundaram are not looking back. They are thrilled to be in the United States.

No remote prison, but resettlement to the US thanks to the US State Department and the International Rescue Committee.

They never intended to come to America, but their failed trip to Australia put them on a roundabout path to Oakland. At first, they thought Australian authorities would take them to Christmas Island. A remote prison complex there houses many of Australia’s asylum-seekers.

Instead, after a month aboard the Oceanic Viking, they ended up in a detention center in the Indonesian port of Tanjung Pinang, where the United Nations refugee agency looked for places that would take them in. The United States accepted 28 refugees, granting them permanent legal residency in the country. Others were sent to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Europe. Those heading to North America spent several weeks waiting in a refugee camp in Romania, a transit point where international organizations determined their final destination.

Tamil Tigers were defeated by the Government of Sri Lanka in 2009, but not to worry the Oakland “bachelors” are likely not Tigers, right?

Sri Lanka’s 25-year-old civil war ended in May 2009, when government forces defeated the Tamil Tigers, whose rebel forces had waged a brutal guerrilla war to create a separate state. Tens of thousands of people died since fighting began in 1983.

Ethnic Tamils, who represent less than 20 percent of the Sri Lankan population but are a majority in the north, were often caught in the middle — especially young men suspected of being rebels. Humanitarian groups say they still face persecution.

Do you know what the ruthless Tamil Tigers are famous for—they invented the suicide belt and were (or still are) listed as a terrorist organization by the US.

Comment worth noting: whites escaping South Africa

While the world’s attention is focused on soccer and the World Cup in South Africa—the so-called rainbow nation—we learn from a reader that life is hell for many white people there and the lucky ones are escaping as virtual refugees to the West and to Australia.

Previously we told you about the Huntley case in Canada, where this South African white man sought asylum from the persecution he was experiencing because of the color of his skin.  Last night we heard from a reader, Lee, commenting at this post about her life in South Africa.

Please also visit this post I wrote in April about the intriguing issue of whites being the new refugees.  I wonder will the political Far Left embrace them as they do people of color?

Here is Lee:

Why just the focus on Afrikaner whites? I am a white english speaking South African. In the past two years I have seen and experienced racist acts and policies destroying the lives of me and my husband and the people I know around me. Not one year has passed where my husband and I have not either been mugged, held up at gunpoint, robbed ,racially harrassed (racial harrassment is a daily event!)or been in an event where we felt a great threat to our lives, and most often its a combination of the above mentioned. This has happened at such a variety of places that walking around anywhere in Jo-burg is done with your heart in your throat pumping with fear.

Everyday brings with it a number of renewed major and minor traumas, all of which communicate a clear message that your days as a white person in South Africa are numbered. As we come out of our flat to go to work in the mornings the pavement is lined with the same black people everyday and evening watching your every move. The people residing in the block of flats can not at any time make it obvious that they might go away for more than a day without the garuantee of being burgled (which has happened countless of occasions). We got burgled in the first month we moved in when we slept over at a friend’s place. Quite a few people had faced the armed burglers in their flats. There was a man that lived there who set his alarm clock to go off throughout the night in order to keep watch on his car, due to the continuous car theft and the constant inaction and apathy to address it.

As you leave you will(garuanteed) be approached and asked to give either cigarretes or money or both and meet with an aggressive response should you not have any of these to offer. A general rule is to walk away as quickly as you can because the person is likely to follow you either threatening, scowling, swearing or wailing (THIS IS NOT AN EXAGERRATION!)

Worklife is fraught with racial tension. Both my husband and I was unemployed and turned down in jobs for months due to the colour of our skin (B.E.E -the Black Empowerment equity policy)or being too over qualified. While working at a retail shop, people would on a number of occasions ignore my manager (who was black)and wait for me to finish with a customer which could take up to a half hour in order to ask me for money. Often my husband would express his concern about a security guard at his work who takes pleasure in telling him that he is going to kill him. Another friend of ours has three degrees in law and is yet to find any concrete work because of the colour of his skin. There are numerous friends who are qualified yet face destitution because of B.E.E.

There is no social security in general, if you should lose your job. The U.I.F (unemployment insurance fund) queues are endless and the office turns you away month after month disregarding your social position with impunity, despite you paying monthly installments for years. The degrading situation of being told by a black person that “This is great” because “Its payback time” is a common and daily event (not to mention the other offensive comments that come with it). Paranoia, depression, anxiety and suicide is a normality in our daily social circles.

A large proportion of these mental conditions are also a result of the lawless conditions we endure. In our previous residence, we were bombarded with continuous noise that rattled our windows. Everyday of the week it would start at midnight continuing up to four in the morning. Weekends the noise would start off at three in the afternoon and on holidays it would start at six in the morning both extending around the clock with one hour breaks inbetween. It caused numerous amounts of traumas for various residents arround the area as the offenders grew in confidence with gun pointing, racial confrontation/accusations, threats and assault, due to the inaction of the police.

Not once have the police gone further than filling out statements (which was in extreme cases) and the procedures for some incidences are so packed with beaurocracy that no one has the adequate knowledge, time or resources to follow it through. Many fear for their lives if they speak up because of this and most are silenced by race accussations.

Recently we came to Australia, undergoing the hopefull procedure of attaining residency,. The event was a miracle and this short period has painfully exposed our trauma of South africa, as we constantly find ourselves having anxieties in scenarios this first world presents as perfectly safe. There are an array of tourists that have visited South Africa with mixed experiences. Our story is about the local South Africans (English and Afrikaans) stuck in this reality, many being too afraid to talk in fear of being targeted. This is their story too.

Australian blogger questions media policy to suppress reports of ethnic violence

A blogger writing at Afbluemountains from Perth, tells us more about violence between newly arrived ethnic groups in Australia and questions whether the policy of media silence on the immigrant angle actually causes the problem to fester.  He begins:

When violence is reported in the Australian mainstream media, rarely is ethnicity mentioned, due to a self-policing media code of conduct that is premised on claims the reporting of ethnicity risks inciting racism. The Australian Journalists Association code of conduct on this reads:

“2. Do not place unnecessary emphasis on personal characteristics, including race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation, family relationships, religious belief, or physical or intellectual disability.”

This seems sensible in order to prevent prejudiced reporting and inciting racism. However, this code has been recently abandoned by the mainstream media in the cases of recent violence against Indian students, probably in an attempt to highlight the particular racial problem. [We have reported on the Muslim immigrant vs. Indian immigrant crime here—ed]  But indeed, the media highlighting of this problem has snowballed into an international political hot potato, resulting in Australia’s Prime Minister flying to India and consequential increased policing in Melbourne and funding to deal with the problem. As a result, there has been a notable reduction in reported violence against Indian students in Melbourne. Politicians were embarrased into dealing with the problem, that the Department of Immigration had left to fester.

But otherwise reporting of ethnicity and race is suppressed. Read any report in an Australian newspaper about a violent incident and find mention of ethnicity or race obvious by omission. This is not to say that most violence in Australia has ethnic causes, but there is a lot that is yet remains suppressed from the mainstream public. the frequency of the problem is of course known to police and to the locals that live in what have become ‘psuedo’ ethnic ghettos.

And so Australia’s problem of ethnic tension is suppressed and allowed to fester until someone dies. The death last night of a man at Mirrabooka in Perth’s inner north is a case in point.

Read on about the murder and other cases of violence between groups of immigrants.  Blogger, John Marlowe, wraps up with this question:

Why suppress ethnic tension and violence when to do so does nothing but allow it to fester into murder and social division?

I think I know what he is saying, everyone gets angrier and tensions build when the truth is not reported.  Also, it’s ludicrous to think one could find solutions if the problem is not identified.

I don’t think we have it quite as bad here although to be sure, political correctness does keep the media quiet on the ethnic angle of a crime.  If a murder is involved we usually learn something about who the suspects are and where they came from, but I have laughed on many occasions when I read fraud stories (food stamp, medicaid, other welfare fraud) that the perps are not identified (sometimes even their names are not mentioned) as immigrants.

To the now spluttering critics who are fuming and wanting to throw things at me and saying ‘white people commit crimes too.’  Of course they do, but that is not the subject of this blog.  I recommend you start your own blog and call it something like—white people are bad.  I’m fine with that.  Ha! Ha!  But, how many readers would the blogger have, because we hear everyday from the media about how bad, exploitive and racist white people are?  It is everywhere in the news, one doesn’t need a specialized blog.

New readers may not know that one of the reasons that I write this blog is to balance the mainstream media and its gushy one-sided reporting on the joys of multiculturalism, and the insistence of most reporters (not all!) to report the ‘diversity is strength’ myth.  Indeed, if the mainstream media started to write and report  fairly about the good, the bad, and the ugly on immigration and refugee issues, I could retire.  But, they won’t anytime soon because in order to write fairly about immigration they would have to question their own deeply held (Leftist!) world view.

Afghan refugee kills wife for becoming too Australian

Islamic “honor” trumps assimilation (again)!   Tuesday it was Dallas, today Australia, tomorrow, your town?

From The Age:

A man who killed his wife by using her veil to strangle her in their Melbourne home did so in the belief he was entitled to dominate her, a Supreme Court judge has found.

Soltan Azizi was today sentenced to 22 years’ jail by Justice Betty King, who said the Afghani refugee had been physically abusive towards Marzieh Rahimi throughout their 14-year marriage.

Justice King said Ms Rahimi had sought help from social workers and was intending to leave Azizi, despite him warning that he would kill her if she tried.

She said Azizi had complained to Ms Rahimi’s sister in the days prior to her killing that his wife was becoming “too Australian”, meaning “she was not a docile and good wife in the terms you expected her to be”.

“It is clear you were unable to accept that your wife had rights, which rights included the ability to leave you if that was what she desired,” Justice King said.

“… Her death clearly resulted because of your belief that you were entitled to dominate and dictate to your wife what she could and could not do.”

Comment worth noting because we have to laugh sometimes

Yesterday we received this comment to my post on Australia from reader ‘Ciccio.’    For longtime readers, you know that we have constantly criticised Arab governments, especially the Saudi government, for having no Muslim charity toward their co-religionist refugees (Palestinians being prime examples!).  Ciccio has found they do have compassion afterall!

Ciccio:

You keep accusing the Muslim countries of not doing anything for their own, I can now prove you wrong. They do not wish to see their own persecuted and are more than willing to see them repatriated to their homeland when they are no longer welcome in their country of adoption. One would have thought that Australia would have learned about import of non-indigenous from past lessons but it seems politicians never learn.

Here is the link that Ciccio provides to make his/her point.   Saudis do have compassion—for camels!

In January Arab News reported on some Saudis who initiated an Internet campaign calling for the transportation of Australian camels to the Kingdom.

The campaign followed an announcement by the Australian government that it would use helicopters and marksmen to corral and kill 6,000 feral camels in a small northern town.

Days later Australians welcomed the proposal to send their wild camels to Saudi Arabia instead of shooting them.

 Then this:

Glasson however said in an interview with a local news agency that the main objective of the culling program is to reduce the growing numbers in some areas and reduce environmental pollution.

She also pointed to the fact that gases emitted by the camels are equivalent to the polluted smoke coming out of nearly 300,000 cars.

Since we know we are all one big happy interconnected world, this begs the question, won’t the camels be producing just as much gas in Saudi Arabia as they did in Australia?
