Somali gangs on the move across Canada, guns coming from the US

This is a story mostly about Somali drug gangs in Canada (focusing on Edmonton where there have been many Somalis murdered in recent years), but there is some interesting information about the US as well,   Did you know that there is a Lewiston, Ohio and Somalis are moving there?

From the Vancouver Sun:

EDMONTON – Somali drug gangs appear to be highly mobile and loosely organized without the hierarchy of traditional criminal gangs, says Staff Sgt. Jim Peebles of Edmonton city police.

These gang members work a circuit — Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary to Fort McMurray and Ottawa, Peebles said in a recent interview, moving cocaine and guns around the country.

“The group is in Edmonton one day, then they turn up in Ft. McMurray and next week we see them in Toronto or Ottawa,” he said.

Guns are coming from the US and the gangs are highly mobile.

Police here believe gang guns are imported from Minneapolis and Columbus, Ohio.

Unlike most criminal organizations, Somali gangs also don’t have strict territories they protect. The activity is “all commodity based,” he said. The fight is over selling more drugs or conflicts between new operators and established groups. Also, unlike street gangs that identify publicly with gang colours and membership rules, Somali gangs keep a low profile. Membership is not about establishing group identity but rather about getting fast cash, he said. “This is all driven by money.”

From the Minneapolis police, watch out Lewiston, Ohio!

As for guns, “it’s possible” guns move across the border to Canada from Minneapolis. Three guns stores were recently robbed by Somalis and only a few of the guns have turned up.

The Somali community is mobile, moving to where there are jobs, good public assistance, housing and an openness to immigrants, she (Officer Jeanine Brudunell, the Minneapolis police department’s liaison officer for East Africa communities) said. A group is now moving to the smaller community of Lewiston, Ohio, for instance, she said.

Interesting!  We all know that Lewiston, Maine was (still is!) a Somali magnet and now it is Lewiston, Ohio!   Doesn’t it make you wonder if a bunch of Somalis were saying go to Lewiston and they didn’t know there was more than one!

The US has admitted well over 100,000 Somali refugees to the US since the early 1990′s (they were trickling in in the 1980′s).   To check out the numbers visit this post, one of our most widely read posts over the last few years.   In FY2010 which ended September 30th the US State Department resettled 4,884 Somalis (here) to towns near you.  The “teen” would-be bomber in Oregon was one of the refugees.

Also, after being closed for nearly two years, the US State Department is on the verge (has been on the verge for months and months!)  of resuming the fraud-ridden family reunification program that admitted as many as 36,000 Somalis fraudulently to the US between 2003 and 2008.  See the latest on new regulations, here.

Now, also, Somalis are coming illegally across our borders and ironically asking for asylum because of the radical Islamic Jihadists (including Americans!) in Africa.

Some hope for Canada as Muslim leader seems to ‘get it’ about multiculturalism?

Just a little while ago, reader K. aka Kell sent this news from Canada.  I got all excited and thought, oh good, things will turn around if a Pakistani immigrant to Canada, a Muslim leader, dares to say things like this in response to Muslims demands for Muslim children to be excused from public school gym class and music class for religious reasons.  (Remember we learned here just a couple of days ago that Muslim prayers, sans menstruating girls, are permitted in Canadian public schools already.)

Mahfooz Kanwar, a member of the Muslim Canadian Congress, says he has some better ideas.

“I’d tell them, this is Canada, and in Canada, we teach music and physical education in our schools. If you don’t like it, leave. If you want to live under sharia law, go back to the hellhole country you came from or go to another hellhole country that lives under sharia law,” said Kanwar, who is a professor emeritus of sociology at Mount Royal University in Calgary.

And, as I said, I got excited for a minute that there might be some hope when along came reader PorkchopsforIslam with a dose of reality.

I would like to ask the Pakistani immigrant opinion on what Canada can do about its muslim immigrants now that
they are inside Canada? It seems that there is slight change in Canadian awareness about the implications of MultiCulturalism.

It seems that Canada has second thoughts. GUESS WHAT??? IT’S TOO LATE.  Like a virus once it gains admittance to the body nothing can be done. Can Canada ban the reading of the Koran that commands Muslims to obey Sharia?

Can Canada ever build a big enough security system to monitor its exploding muslim population..tracking down every appearance of Jihadist sentiment? Can it afford that? Can it afford to do it for the next thousand years as it tries to keep Muslims from reading and doing what their religion says?

So Canada traded its security, its sanity, its identity, its culture, its future…FOR WHAT? FOR WHAT?  What could possibly compensate Canada for what it has to go through now. All the West every had to do was say…NO!. Now all the West CAN DO is beg, hope and pray.

Nice trade off eh?

The fact that there are a few nice muslims in the mix? What is “nice” today will turn out quite differently tomorrow.
We have seen this over and over. A “nice muslim” is found with bomb materials, or supporting jihad..and everyone
is “shocked”. A “nice muslim” wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, loses his job, or is insulted, or becomes
religious..and VOILA..the whole cycle begins again.

There is only one answer and that is polite and complete repatriation.

A nice cash settlement to GO HOME and stay there. Now lets all go turn on the TV and read about today’s
Islamic terror activity…

As I said, dose of reality.

Canada way ahead of the US with its ‘diversity is beautiful’ program

We have a whole category here at RRW about Canada and its “welcoming” refugee and immigrant policies.  Here then is a shocking column by Mark Steyn to serve as a warning to America.   You must open the link to see the photograph because this text does not do it justice.

Take a look at this photograph. It appeared in The Toronto Star’s education section on Saturday:

It’s the scene every Friday at the cafeteria of Valley Park Middle School in Toronto. That’s not a private academy, it’s a public school funded by taxpayers. And yet, oddly enough, what’s going on is a prayer service – oh, relax, it’s not Anglican or anything improper like that; it’s Muslim Friday prayers, and the Toronto District School Board says don’t worry, it’s just for convenience: They put the cafeteria at the local imams’ disposal because otherwise the kids would have to troop off to the local mosque and then they’d be late for Lesbian History class or whatever subject is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

The picture is taken from the back of the cafeteria. In the distance are the boys. They’re male, so they get to sit up front at prayers. Behind them are the girls. They’re female, so they have to sit behind the boys because they’re second-class citizens – not in the whole of Canada, not formally, not yet, but in the cafeteria of a middle school run by the Toronto District School Board they most certainly are.

And the third row? The ones with their backs to us in the foreground of the picture? Well, let the Star’s caption writer explain:

At Valley Park Middle School, Muslim students participate in the Friday prayer service. Menstruating girls, at the very back, do not take part.

Indeed, have we returned to the Middle ages?  And, where is the women’s liberation movement?

Canada: Catholic School trustee not off the hook yet for “insensitive” remarks

You can tell by the rage expressed by Canada’s Open Borders activists that this story isn’t over yet.  A Catholic school official apologized, but I assure you grovelling is not enough for these people and I predict he will be gone soon.

From the Toronto Star:

Rookie Catholic school trustee Frank D’Amico ate a large piece of humble pie at a board meeting Thursday night, but refugee advocates are disappointed that it wasn’t followed by disciplinary dessert.

D’Amico read a statement at the start of a Toronto Catholic District School Board meeting in which he said he regretted statements that have been “reported in the media.”

“They were insensitive” and the comments did not reflect board policies on the admission of students, he said.

Comment about September 11th is beyond the pale

D’Amico said he understood board policy does not deny admission to students based on their parents’ immigration status and this reflects provincial law.

The trustee’s apology was in response to a furor created after an email he sent to social work student Nadia Saad, who is currently out of the country. Saad had written him about a woman whose nephew was denied enrolment at three Catholic high schools because he didn’t have immigration papers.

D’Amico replied that the student’s aunt was “lucky I didn’t answer the phone because my first call would be to Immigration Canada.”

He said in the email he wanted to remind her of “911. September 11, the day that changed the world” and he added “I am (sic) forward your concern to the RCMP and to Immigration Canada.’’

At the meeting, Trustee Maria Rizzo said the board is “accepting of all students, no matter what.’’

Apology not enough!  Never enough!

And that incenses refugee advocates, who spoke at the meeting Thursday. Farrah Miranda, an organizer with No One is Illegal — Toronto told the Star D’Amico’s “forced apology” is not enough.

So far the Catholic school is sticking with their man, but for how long?   I don’t know enough about Canada’s Catholic Church to know if they are as deeply infiltrated by the hard Left as the American Catholic Church, readers might want to check out this relatively new US website on the matter—Exposing Marxism in the Church (here).
