Canada has immigrant “investors” ripping it off too!

I’ve been writing for years about LEGAL immigration programs in the US that allow those people from a whole long list of countries who have a little money to “invest” to get into the US and buy such things as mom and pop gas stations and convenience stores only to turn them into fraudulent enterprises most notably stealing from the food stamp program. (See my earlier post this a.m. for example)

Now, we learn that Canada, greedy for “investors” too, has a legal immigration program that is a major fraud operation.  Here is a long story and an investigation by the Globe and Mail about how Canada is being hoodwinked by unscrupulous Chinese “investors.”

Here is just one little bit from the Globe’s story:

But a bigger threat may lurk abroad. More than 80 per cent of the companies The Globe’s counterfeit client asked for help offered to sugarcoat the past, even if it includes a criminal conviction and time in jail.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney confirms that “crooked consultants” in such places as India, Pakistan and especially China are a problem. “A lot of people,” he said in an interview, “are willing to pay a lot of money to cut corners.”

I wish we had a news gathering organization as aggressive as the Globe and Mail which actually set up a sting operation to get this story.

Our American food stamp scams (convenience stores owned by immigrant investors)  would be a great subject for such a sting!

Toronto again, this time Somali terrorists

In my previous post I told you about the Ethiopian political demonstrations yesterday in Toronto and now I see that Canadian authorities think as many as twenty former refugees to Canada have joined the Jihad in Africa.   Just think how boring Canada would be without all this multicultural fun to liven things up.

From the National Post:

TORONTO — About 20 Canadians have travelled to Somalia to join Al-Shabab, a federal official said two weeks after a Toronto man was arrested as he was allegedly leaving to enlist in the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group.

As many as three of the Canadians may have been killed so far, the official added, although such deaths are hard to verify because of the armed conflict and the lack of a diplomatic corps in Somalia.

The figures suggest the scale of Canada’s problem with Al-Shabab recruitment is comparable to that experienced by the United States and Europe, which also have sizable populations of ethnic Somalis.

The Al-Shabab threat was underscored late last month when police arrested Mohamed Hersi at Toronto’s Pearson airport. The RCMP alleged he was on his way to Somalia “to join Al-Shabab and participate in their terrorist activities.”

The 25-year-old former Toronto security guard, who is scheduled to have a bail hearing on Wednesday, was the first Canadian to be charged with terrorism offences related to Al-Shabab, but the group has been actively recruiting members in Canada for at least two years.

So what is the big worry, they are fighting and dying in Africa right?

The RCMP is concerned about the potential for violence in Canada should the Al-Shabab recruits return home with the indoctrination and the weapons training necessary to carry out terrorist attacks. A Canadian Security Intelligence Service report recently obtained by the National Post under the Access to Information Act calls foreign travel an “important part in the radicalization process” of Islamist extremists.

“Those who have jihad experience are often transformed by it and return to their home countries enthused with a zeal to convince others to share their new-found desire to defend Islam,” reads the report, marked Secret. “This combination of enthusiasm, charisma and … tales of jihad can be a potent mix that can be used to draw the vulnerable into violence. The influence that these veterans can have in their communities is significant.”

Ethiopians protest in Toronto

Isn’t diversity just beautiful! Why the heck do we keep doing this—-allowing every African group into the West (are we bringing Libyans next*?) so we can pay for their protests as they continue their centuries-old ethnic squabbles on our streets.  Here is news from Canada.  I swear I read the story twice trying to figure out who were the good guys and who were the bad guys back in Ethiopia before I realized I didn’t care—but I suspect there is a Muslim element.

Wouldn’t it just make sense to let them fight out their civil wars in Africa?

*Oh, and Canada will likely get its Libyans too!

Muslim immigrants on the dole the world over

Kathy Shaidle (Five Feet of Fury) has a good post at Pajamas Media that is a sort of bookend piece to my earlier post this a.m. about how high the percentage is of immigrants on welfare in the US.  By the way, the polygamy Shaidle references in Canada is happening here as well.

From Pajamas Media:

In 2008, the Toronto Sun reported that “hundreds of [Greater Toronto Area] Muslim men in polygamous marriages — some with a harem of wives — are receiving welfare and social benefits for each of their spouses, thanks to the city and province, Muslim leaders say.”

“Polygamy is a regular part of life for many Muslims,” Canadian Society of Muslims president Mumtaz Ali declared bluntly. “Ontario recognizes religious marriages for Muslims and others.”

Government officials quickly denied the Muslim leader’s claims about immigration law and social benefits regulations. Only one public servant seemed sufficiently concerned. “This is wrong,” said city councilor Rob Ford. [Writer Shaidle tells us further in the story that Ford is now mayor of Toronto and did not respond to recent inquiries from Shaidle for an update, no surprise there—ed]

“They should put a stop to this immediately.”

Instead, welfare abuse by Muslims appears to have metastasized across the Western world. Almost three years later, news stories about radical Muslims — often immigrants — engaged in social benefits scams emerge regularly from Europe, Canada, and Australia. Even when they are not involved in fraud, Muslims frequently are overrepresented on welfare rolls, compared with other communities. The statistics from around the globe are jaw-dropping, especially in economically uncertain times.

Read it all.  Learn how we in the West are paying for our own demise.

Would someone in authority please begin to seriously connect the dots on the Food Stamp fraud cases in the US—the ones involving convenience stores and trading benefits for cash!

Canada: Refugees have trouble fitting in and are thus drawn to gangs

Here is a story from Vancouver about the psychological problems related to trauma experienced by some immigrant and refugee youths.

From the Vancouver Sun:

He [Hieu Van Ngo, a PhD candidate with the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Social Work] said the numbers of refugee or immigrant youths who get involved in gangs isn’t known because Canada does not keep race-related crime statistics. And while Ngo said he suspects the majority of refugees don’t get into gangs, “We can’t be complacent by bringing refugees in and leaving them to struggle without supports.

“Are we setting up the school system so that it is responsive to students with complex needs? Across the country, a lot of times schools neglect to give ESL [English as a second language] support to young people,” he said.

Giving the example of the 14-yearold, Ngo said the boy didn’t do well in school because English wasn’t his first language and when he acted out, they expelled him.

I have absolutely no doubt that this is a growing problem, not only in Canadian schools, but American ones as well.  In my view, first, there needs to be a vigorous debate about how many refugees a western country can handle financially and part of that decision must be made with these troubled youths in mind.

The taxpayers are going to have to decide if these young immigrants who were traumatized and in need of special education should get it—separate from the other students.  That will be very costly, but it’s pretty costly to society to hold back the educational progress of normal kids, and it’s pretty costly to cope with gang violence.

Unfortunately, refugee  and migration advocates won’t even let such a vigorous debate occur because they are too busy calling anyone who suggests a moratorium or a slowdown in the refugee flow to the First World a bunch of  evil hatemonger bigots, xenophobes and racists.

No immigration slowdown, or no special accommodations for troubled youths?  Then the next best thing is to get your kids out of public schools (as a starter)!
