South Africa: Huntley will come back in shame

For new readers, Brandon Huntley, a white South African, had been granted asylum in Canada on grounds that he was being persecuted for his skin color in the Rainbow Nation.  A couple of weeks ago a judge threw out his claimThis article from IOL (Independent On Line), a South African publication, sounds a bit ominous to me about whether Huntley will be safe if deported to his home country.

Once he returns to South Africa, Brandon Huntley, the man who has just lost his refugee status in Canada, will “forever suffer the indignity of his false claims”.

This is the view of Home Affairs spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa, who said Huntley should never have been granted refugee status.

Huntley now faces deportation and a return to South Africa.

“We welcome the decision of the Canadian federal court,” said Mamoepa. “From the outset, our view has always been that his claims are based on falsehood that tarnishes our image and the people of South Africa in the eyes of the world.”

He said the ruling vindicated South Africa and any negative perceptions Huntley’s claims may have caused. “We are looking forward to his deportation to South Africa, where he will forever suffer the indignity of his false claims,” he said.  [And, IOL has prominently posted his photograph.]

Heck, we have so much crime going every which way in S. Africa we should all be refugees! Astounding comment from a government official.

John Kane-Berman, chief executive of the South African Institute of Race Relations, said Huntley did not have any grounds on which to argue that he, or any one race group, was at a greater risk of being a victim of crime than any other in South Africa. “South Africa has a very high level of crime, particularly violent crime,” he said. “If South Africans were entitled to refugee status based on the level of crime in the country, we should all be given refugee status.”

No where do these government officials say they will protect Huntley.   Huntley’s attorney should use these remarks to argue his client will not be safe if deported to S.Africa.

Canadian Somali group to hold conference on youth radicalization

And, they say the CSIS (Canadian Security and Intelligenc Service ) is too agressive toward Somali youths.

From Puntlandi.com:

An advocacy organization says efforts by the security intelligence apparatus to prevent radicalization of Somali youth have been counterproductive, and that the Somali community itself needs to confront the problem.

Canadian Friends of Somalia will host a conference next month to offer better support for Somali immigrants who are at risk of being recruited to fight in their home country.

“This is something we are very concerned about. [Young] people are missing from our communities and we believe they are being recruited,” says Farah Aw-Osman, executive director of the organization.

Aw-Osman says he thinks the missing young Somalis returned to their country of birth to fight alongside al-Shabab, a militia in Somalia linked to al-Qaida.

[….]

Canadian Friends of Somalia says CSIS agents should use less intimidating tactics to gather information about Somali youth.

[….]

The conference, called Promoting Peace and Preventing Youth Radicalization, will run from Dec. 6 to Dec. 7 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

If you happen to be in Ottawa, this could be a conference you might want to attend.  Good timing for this because maybe Canada has a few Christmas-tree-bombing projects in the works too!

White South Africans can still apply for asylum in Canada

That is apparently the message sent by the judge in the Huntley case.  Although Huntley’s claim was turned down, Eyewitness News from S. Africa (the Rainbow Nation) is reporting the decision actually confirms that whites are eligible for refugee status.  (Emphasis mine)

A Canadian judge, who overturned an immigration ruling to grant a South African man refugee status, said other South Africans may qualify.

Former Capetonian Brandon Huntley had earlier been granted refugee status, claiming the South African government was not doing enough to protect white citizens from violent crime by blacks.

Last week, Judge James Russell said he was not convinced of Huntley’s case, and that it appeared he had gone to Canada looking for a job.

However, the judge added that this does not mean that other South Africans could not apply.

Huntley’s lawyer, Russell Kaplan said the judge’s ruling opened rather than closed the door.

“Justice Russell clearly opened the door to other white South Africans who may feel that they are at risk in South Africa on account of their skin colour,” he said.

This must drive the Leftist gang at the UN a little crazy.

Canadian Supreme Court: refugees can be extradited (maybe?)

This is a really confusing article entitled, ‘Refugees can be extradited to face crime charges: Supreme Court.’

The Montreal Gazette begins:

OTTAWA — Canadian laws protecting refugees do not preclude the federal justice minister from ordering their extradition when they are wanted for alleged crimes in the countries they fled, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled Thursday.

Sounds simple enough, but the article goes on for many column inches and it sounds like certain refugees who face criminal charges cannot be extradited

Near the end, the Gazette says this:

The court also reaffirmed international treaties and domestic law, saying that an undertaking not to return refugees to persecution “is a cornerstone of refugee protection.”

So who knows what they have done, maybe you can figure it out!

Canada: Judge throws out earlier decision in refugee case of white S.African

We’ve told you about this case previously here and here.

Brandon Huntley asked for asylum in Canada claiming he was persecuted because of his white skin color in majority black S. Africa.  Initially he was granted refugee status but now a judge has overturned the earlier decision.

From the Globe and Mail:

The Federal Court has quashed an immigration tribunal decision to grant refugee status to a white South African who claimed he feared racial persecution in his homeland.

Brandon Carl Huntley told the refugee protection panel that he feared he might be killed by black South Africans, and that neither the government nor the police would protect him because of his race.

The tribunal found Mr. Huntley’s fears justified and gave him refugee status in August, 2009.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney asked for a Federal Court review of the finding.

Mr. Justice James Russell released a scathing ruling on the case Wednesday, saying the decision was badly flawed.

The judge claims there was no international pressure to reverse the ruling, but you know there was because the message being sent was the politically incorrect one.  We all know whites discriminate because of color, but it NEVER goes the other direction, right!

When the refugee decision came down, the South African government expressed outrage and the case raised a furor in that country’s media. The authorities called the decision itself “racist” and “ridiculous” and made diplomatic complaints.

Heaven forbid the“Rainbow Nation” would be the source for a horde of white refugees looking for new homes!
