Syrians in Cyprus: How These People Operate!

Editor’s note: Thanks to reader ‘Pungentpeppers’ for pulling together some important information for us in this guest post.

Their demands and signs like these will surely endear them to the people of Cyprus and Europe (not!). Photo and story: http://cyprus-mail.com/2014/12/30/refugees-say-theyre-at-breaking-point/#prettyPhoto

Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Cyprus say that they are “at a breaking point”.  You might remember hearing about them.  In September, 337 of them were headed – illegally – to Italy when their boat broke down.  The passengers described their ordeal, “We spent days at sea with no food and no water. There were so many people on the boat. We called it the journey of death.”

You would think that they would be grateful for being rescued.  They weren’t.  A passing cruise liner rescued them and took them to the nearest port, in Cyprus.  That’s when the group from Syria threw their first hissy fit.  They refused to get off the ship and demanded that the crew take them to Italy.  It did not matter that there were hundreds of paying passengers on the ship who had to get to their destinations.  They would not relent – until an elite group of Cypriot riot police arrived in force.

Since then the group have been enlightening the public about their financial dealings.  Some paid as much as $8,000 (6,400 euros) each for their first illegal boat rides.  Others, including children, paid $6,000 (4,900 euros).  You would think that perhaps they might have figured out that paying a lot of money to a lawbreaking smuggler is not a good idea.  But about two weeks ago, several from the group gave one of their own around $5,000 (4,000 euros) each after he promised he could get them off Cyprus and into mainland Europe. They had collected the sums from their apparently well-off relatives in Syria and Europe.  The would-be smuggler, however, disappeared along with the money. [I wonder which European country he went to?]

The group – who are staying in tents at a former military camp – are not happy campers.  One member of the group hung himself recently.  Only about 20 agreed to remain in Cyprus.  The rest are still holding out for Europe.

The other day, the group organized a demonstration with signs written in English.  One sign, “We want to live in safe country”.  Another sign goes further “We want the freedom of choose the country in which we want to live”.  (Ah, they must be Soros’ “globalists”!)  One protester complained that they cannot afford the fees to apply for residency in Cyprus.  That’s 70 euros or $85 – small change compared to $8,000 and perhaps an additional $5,000 apiece that these people paid before.  Why don’t they call their relatives again?

Members of the group complained that they expected to stay in hotels in Cyprus – not tents.  One woman, when she saw the tents, fell on the ground crying and shouting saying “we ran from death and now we were will endure a slow death, here at the camp”.  If they don’t like the tents, since they have thousands of dollars and apparently rich relatives, why don’t they pay for hotel rooms?  It’s the slow season in Cyprus and prices are low.

Yet, they still hold out for Dreamland Europe.  I hate to break it to them – but there is no housing there either.  Germany with its freezing climate is putting refugees in shipping containers.  The Swiss house asylum seekers underground, many to a room, in military bunkers.  In Sweden – unless you are willing to go to the far north – you will likely wind up sharing a kitchen and sleeping in a tiny apartment along with several other families.  In France, in places like Calais, you can find refugees living exposed to the elements, cooking and sleeping in tent camps.  [Take a look at this advertisement for one such accommodation.  It’s in French but has photos.  The amenities include neither water, nor electricity, but it offers a good view of the Calais “jungle”. Your bed is a scrap of carpet, your dining table is a shipping pallet.]

Somali woman lived on a bench!

And in Britain, times have changed.  Perhaps formerly a refugee could hope to get a council house.  Nowadays, due to massive immigration, housing has become a sorry situation.  Many people rent beds in garden sheds – or sleep in caravans.  Many others are homeless.  This year, one older Somali woman was reduced to living on a bench for nine months, while she was holding out for a council house.  [She used an umbrella for when it rained.]  Finally, one day when she was hospitalized, the local government removed even that small misused bit of accommodation.  See that story here at the Guardian.

We have an expression in the U.S., “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade”.  The Syrians should consider making lemonade.

Go here for a few other posts we have written about the problems with illegal aliens arriving on Cyprus.

What is going on with the UNHCR in Malaysia, and why are we taking all these “refugees?”

I wish I knew who we were processing into America from Malaysia.  As I told readers here recently we have already “welcomed” to America, 1,504 “refugees” from the safe Muslim country in only the first two months of the fiscal year.

Why is it in our national interest to relieve Malaysia of some of its asylum seekers/illegal migrants?

This is what I said on December 20th:

If you go to this fiscal year’s (FY2015) State Department statistics you can see that we took a huge number of “refugees” from Malaysia in the first two months of this year (October and November)—1,504.  Again, Malaysia is a safe Muslim country so who are we taking?

I bet we took thousands from Malaysia in FY2014, but those stats are no longer available to the general public.

Who are those “refugees?” Are they persecuted Malaysian Christians? Are they illegal aliens (Muslims) who got to Malaysia hoping to make it to Australia?  Is this like our Malta situation where we are taking another country’s illegal aliens?

The State Department does not make public the nationalities of those coming to America from Malaysia!  We can only guess that they are Burmese Muslims, or Somalis, or more Middle Eastern Muslims.  Again, persecuted minorities (like the Christians) won’t be seeking protection in Malaysia.  And, if they are why is the State Department keeping it secret?

If migrants have a valid UNHCR ID card, they can stay. Imagine what the fake ones must cost on the black market. http://durianasean.com/if-refugees-have-valid-unhcr-card-they-can-remain-here-says-shahidan/

Two articles about problems the UNHCR is having in Malaysia caught my eye yesterday.  The first one was about how 365 migrants were caught carrying FAKE UNHCR identification cards.  Those “Myanmar nationals” mentioned are likely mostly Muslims, possibly Rohingya.

From the Sun Daily via UNHCR News on December 23rd:

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 365 illegal immigrants, mostly Myanmars, were caught by the authorities, possesing fake United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) cards to stay and work in the country.

They were among 416 illegals nabbed in the six-hour integrated operation called ‘Op Bersih’ led by the Kuala Lumpur police contingent and other security agencies, including the Immigration Department, Registration Department, UNHCR, Rela, and the Civil Defence Department at the Selayang Wholesale Market, here, that began at midnight.

Kuala Lumpur police CID deputy chief, ACP Khairi Ahrasa in a statement said the operation to reduce the number of illegals in the country managed to detain 351 Myanmar nationals, 20 Bangladeshis, 30 Indonesians, seven Indian nationals and six other nationals for illegal entry and using fake UNHCR cards.

And the funny part (not really funny) is that just a week before, the UNHCR was blasting authorities in Malaysia for harassing those poor “refugees” carrying UNHCR ID cards.  Here also at the Sun Daily:

PETALING JAYA: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is concerned over the arrests of UNHCR card holders in the country for various Immigration-related offences.

UNHCR External Relations officer Yante Ismail said these card holders are at risk of being arrested by the authorities as currently there are no domestic laws that can make a distinction between refugees and undocumented migrants.

She said they will intervene with the authorities whenever the registered refugees are arrested for various Immigration-related offences to advocate their release.

According to UNHCR statistics, there are over 150,000 refugees and asylum-seekers in the country from countries such as Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Somalia and Pakistan.

In an immediate response, an Immigration Department spokesman did not deny that Malaysia lacks a legislative and administrative framework to address refugee matters, adding that all of the refugees are allowed to stay in the country only with the government’s compassion.

However, he refuted the allegation of UNHCR card holders being arrested saying that it is always their standard operating procedure not to arrest registered refugees.

“Even if we (mistakenly) detain the refugees, we will check with the UNHCR to find out whether the card is valid or not, if it is valid, then we let them go,” the spokesman told theSun.

Can you just imagine the amount of corruption going on in a place like Malaysia with 150,000 mostly Muslim “refugees” and “asylum-seekers” hanging around waiting for the big prize—a ticket to Australia or America!

Indonesia wants to put Muslim asylum seekers on an island; blasts Australia for lack of welcome

This is actually pretty funny!  Indonesia, a Muslim country, has long served as a transit route for the Middle Eastern and African illegal aliens (boat people) wanting to get into Australia, but Australia has been attempting to stop the illegal migration and is now guarding its borders.  Consequently, the pile-up of “asylum seekers” in Indonesia has become a problem.

Here is a thought—let Indonesia give refuge to fellow Muslims.

Australian Immigration Minister, Scott Morrison: We are taking the “sugar off the table!” Where is America’s Scott Morrison?

From the Global Post (emphasis is mine):

JAKARTA — Senior Indonesian officials say they are looking for an island to accommodate some 10,000 asylum seekers and refugees waiting for resettlement in the country, as they have become a “burden.”

Asylum seekers flock to Indonesia from the Middle East, Asia and Africa, hoping to reach Australia. But Indonesia’s southern neighbor has recently announced that all refugees registered at the Jakarta office of the UNHCR refugee agency from July 2014 will now automatically be banned from resettlement in Australia.

Australia’s immigration minister Scott Morrison compares the ban to “taking the sugar off the table,” and says it’s in Indonesia’s interest. “We’re trying to stop people thinking they can go to Indonesia and wait around till they get to Australia,” he told Australia’s ABC Radio late November. “This is designed to stop people flowing into Indonesia. It will help Indonesia.”

But Indonesian authorities don’t see it that way. “It’s Australia’s right, but it’s creating a burden for us,” said Indonesia’s Justice and Human Rights minister Yasonna Laoly on Australia’s ABC News. “There are 10,000 foreign citizens, which becomes a burden for us.”

Indonesia has never signed any refugee treaty with the UN!  So, why isn’t UNHCR Antonio Guterres blasting Indonesia?  Is it because it is already a Muslim country and it is Australia that should be Islamized?  (LOL! is that a word?).

As a signatory to the United Nations’ Refugee Convention, Australia is bound by international law to protect refugees. Indonesia has not signed the treaty.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s anti-immigration “Operation Sovereign Borders” was launched shortly after he took office late 2013, and has created tensions with Jakarta. Indonesian authorities haven’t been happy with Australia towing back boats of migrants en route to Australia towards Indonesian waters.

The border invasion continues as more illegal alien “children” and mothers arrive in Texas…

…..over 100 a day says head nun at Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Ho hum!  Happy New Year!

From the Tucson Sentinel (hat tip: Paul):

McALLEN, Texas — The media tent that once stood in the parking lot of Sacred Heart Church is gone, as are the television crews and reporters who descended this summer when the flow of Central American immigrants illegally crossing the Texas border was major news.

But after a brief lull, the surge of undocumented families passing through a temporary shelter set up by Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley seems to be rising again. The spotlight may have turned away, but if the sense of crisis is gone, the people have not stopped coming.

“The numbers increased a lot this past month, almost to 100 every day [last week],” said Sister Norma Pimentel, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley. “We have seen some that have already been caught and tried again. They have hope that they have a chance at a better life here.”

After Christmas, she said, the charity will begin searching for a facility to turn what began as a temporary shelter into a permanent offering.

Pimentel oversees the volunteer effort providing short-term shelter to some of the thousands of women and children who have trekked to Texas from Central America. About 52,300 families surrendered to the U.S. Border Patrol in the Rio Grande Valley during the 2014 fiscal year, an increase of more than 500 percent over 2013. About 50,000 unaccompanied children were caught or surrendered to border agents in the Valley in fiscal year 2014.

It doesn’t look like it’s going to end any time soon,” Pimentel said. “[The Border Patrol] considered the fact that we’re here and we’re prepared to receive them.”

With so many arrivals, the Border Patrol releases most families to the church shelter with orders for them to appear before an immigration judge in whatever city they reach. Some stay in Texas. Others head for New York, Miami, Boston or Chicago, among other cities.

[….]

Through Oct. 17, local governments had spent about $560,000 to aid in the humanitarian effort. Governments including the cities of McAllen and Weslaco, and Hidalgo and Willacy counties, have asked the federal and state governments for reimbursement, but a McAllen city official said they haven’t heard back.

Now, if our side was as organized as the left, we would be out protesting at this Catholic Charities convention against the so-called “charity” feeding from the public trough and using our money for their political agenda.

The crisis has also put the area in the spotlight. Pimentel said the American and Latin American branches of Catholic Charities will hold their annual conference in McAllen next year.

Surely they are having the confab at the border to take full advantage of the media opportunity to push the Catholic open borders agenda.

Unraveling Somali day care fraud in Minnesota; did taxpayer money leave the country?

Because the story is so big and growing, and I don’t know where to start, I’ll post one news story at a time from the growing scandal involving taxpayer rip-offs by Somali day care workers.  Reader ‘Pungentpeppers,’ our unofficial crime investigator, has sent a ream of stories and so I’ll dive in with this one first.

Yasmin Abdulle Ali (33) charged with 52 felony counts. Will she be deported? Don’t hold your breath!

But, before I begin I want to impress upon readers that the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) is actually giving out micro-enterprise loans to teach immigrant women how to set up culturally appropriate day care centers in their homes!  Heck, you can get paid to take care of children in your own home and don’t have to send them out to any American (multicultural!) daycare center where they might actually learn English and meet people of different races and religions.

I don’t know if those being arrested in Minnesota ever took part in a federally-funded program, but we’ll see as the investigation continues.

This is what the ORR says on its website about its “Home-based Child Care” micro-enterprise “loans.”  (Emphasis is mine):

General Background
Microenterprise development services traditionally include business technical assistance or short-term training, credit in the form of micro-loans, and, if applicable, a revolving loan fund. The programs are designed to be culturally and linguistically appropriate for the refugee population. Initiated in 2011, the Microenterprise Development – Home-Based Childcare Program is a new program for the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), designed to support home-based child care mentoring programs primarily for refugee women interested in providing child care services in their homes.

Program Description
This project will teach refugee women about state and federal child care laws, regulations and licensing requirements and about American cultural norms concerning child care and child development. By encouraging refugee women to apply their new child care knowledge and skills in the job market, the project will assist refugee women in acquiring English language skills, advancing their education, learning basic financial skill, and improving their economic opportunities.

A secondary objective of the program is to expand home-based child care business options for other refugees, to enable them to enter the workforce with confidence that their children are being cared for by individuals possessing appropriate cultural competency.

Here is a list of present contractors administering the loan program.   And, look who is eligible—non-citizens only!

All low income refugees who are not citizens are eligible for services under this program.

Now to the outrageous news from Minneapolis (Fox 9 investigation)!  Merry Christmas Minnesota taxpayers!

First food stamp fraud, then Medicaid/Medicare fraud, now this!  Is this happening in your refugee “welcoming” city?

(KMSP) – The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office says day care owners defrauded the government out of $4 million dollars and have charged 4 people with a combined 96 felonies.

The announcement comes nearly two years after the Fox 9 Investigators first reported details about the DEQO Family Centers, located in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Apple Valley. The stories detailed how the centers employed some mothers of its daycare children who qualified for state funded child care. The program helps low-income parents pay their child care costs who are working.

DEQO owners would bill the county for child care while the mothers were supposed to be working. But Fox 9 sources, who were employees for the business back in February 2013, said the jobs were not legitimate. “Sometimes they would come in, sign in their children, sign themselves in and go grocery shopping,” one of the sources said.

Ramsey County investigators say the time sheets submitted to the county by the “working” mothers had inflated hours on them, allowing the owners to bill the government for maximum child care time.

One of the people charged in the case is Yasmin Abdulle Ali (33) an owner of DEQO. She gave a tour of one of her centers to a Fox 9 Investigative producer saying that many of her customers are on assistance.

Ali’s husband, Ahmed Aden Mohamed (46) is also charged, along with Joshua John Miller (31). According to the complaint, they are also listed as owners the DEQO Family Centers.

Ramsey County Attorney, John Choi said there are many well-deserving families who are waiting in line for child-care assistance. “These criminal acts hurt our entire community, those who are in need of assistance and those who pay for it, our taxpayers,” commented Choi.

There is more, read it all and watch the news clip.  Investigators are trying to figure out where the $4 million went.  There is a connection to Ali’s brother who has been implicated in jihadist recruitment.

More to come…..
