Fiscal Year 2014 Refugee Employment Entered Rates: These rates stink!

Check out this map I came across today in my research.  It is at the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) website and represents the caseload of refugees getting help from federal programs to find employment in each state.  You pay for this! Now look at the employment rates!
Holy cow!  Some of these are really low.  So much for the idea that refugees quickly become self-sufficient!
If I were ORR I would be embarrassed to publish this information!
If I’m reading this correctly, why are we sending so many refugees to Texas (just as one example) when only 46% are finding employment. And there are states with even much lower rates than that. Geez, look at Florida!

Kind of makes you wonder if indeed the Cloward-Piven strategy (use the poor to bring on the revolution) is alive and well under Obama!

Cleveland City Councilman seeing dollar signs for city: "USS Refugee ship is coming to port. Get on."

joe-cimperman
Councilman Joe Cimperman: Hurrah! Here come the third worlders to colonize Cleveland!

Update July 18th:  More on Ohio, here.
If you live in Cleveland or any other Rust Belt city this may be the most important article you will read this year (or for years to come).  I simply haven’t the time to analyze it all for you, but for any activists concerned with the future of your community, this reporter (Michelle Jarboe McFee) at The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer has done her homework.
You now must demand full transparency from local elected officials and if necessary figure out where and how to throw a shoe in the machinery of government!  Find out who is going to benefit financially from the re-development in this public-private partnership scheme to colonize Cleveland.
How much does Presidential candidate and Governor John Kasich know about the plan to welcome refugees to Cleveland?

If I lived in Ohio, I would also be trying to find out right now how “welcoming” Governor Kasich has been to this plan.  He surely knows about it!
Before you read “Dream neighborhood….,” please go to a story we posted exactly two years ago yesterday about how Welcoming America had come to Cleveland to get this ball rolling.
Somalis will be invited to be part of the “Dream” neighborhood!  Will they live in one big happy multicultural melting pot along side Hindu Bhutanese and Christian Ukrainians?

Changing America by changing the people! Story, sounds like a blueprint for Obama’s plan to “seed” your cities and towns with “New Americans.”

Here is how Ms. McFee begins her report at The Plain Dealer (hat tip: Julie).

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Kat Oberst Ledger and her husband, Art, recall when West 48th Street teemed with drug dealers and sounds of gunfire peppered the night. Now their street, near the intersection of Cleveland’s Stockyards and Clark-Fulton neighborhoods, is quiet at sundown. Empty houses sit, windows boarded, awaiting demolition. A hummingbird sanctuary and gardens have sprung up on vacant lots.

During the last decade, the Ledgers say, the neighborhood has improved. It also has emptied out, thanks to foreclosures, abandonment and urban decay. But the Ledgers could be welcoming new neighbors – hailing from places as far-flung as Bhutan, Somalia and Ukraine – over the next few years, if a consortium of community leaders, nonprofit groups and public officials has its way.

These newcomers, refugees fleeing danger or persecution in their home countries, need places to live. Cleveland has plenty of empty homes, many of which could be rehabbed rather than bulldozed if potential landlords knew tenants were on their way. That supply-and-demand equation is the basic premise of the Dream Neighborhood, a plan to reinvigorate a slice of the city’s West Side by appealing to refugees while improving living conditions for existing residents.

On Friday, the Cleveland City Planning Commission will get its first look at this land-use concept, during an introductory presentation at City Hall. At this point, there’s nothing that requires a public vote. There’s no mountain of government money on the table, though councilmen have pushed for more demolition spending to raze the worst eyesores in the neighborhood. But there appears to be city support, from Mayor Frank Jackson on down, for the idea of making Cleveland a more welcoming place, a haven for people forced to leave their home countries.

[….]

Cimperman wants to capture some of those new households and concentrate them near Thomas Jefferson school, chipping away at a citywide vacancy challenge that spans thousands of properties. He envisions a repopulated neighborhood where longtime residents live next door to refugees who help maintain shared gardens, find jobs in the area and start businesses on Clark and Storer avenues, two depleted commercial corridors.

“I’m telling you now,” Cimperman says, conveying his passion for the project with words that can’t be printed in a family newspaper, “the … USS Refugee ship is coming to port. Get on.”

Please read on, this is great reporting (even if you don’t like what you are hearing)!
One big problem—-so where are the jobs?

Montana response to refugee plan includes dire warning

Last week we told you that a group in Montana was proposing that the state begin to resettle refugees in significant numbers.  The only state that has no refugee program at all is Wyoming, but over the years Montana has resettled a handful (LOL! sort of like refugee advocate Joe Biden’s Delaware).  However, that could all change as writer Stephen Maly suggested in an opinion piece in Helena’s Independent Record.
Now comes a response by Montana resident Paul Nachman*** which I’m posting here for several reasons.  First, his excellent piece could be a model for others working in ‘pockets of resistance’ and it’s a reminder to use the local media as much as possible (not everyone is on the internet!).  Secondly, he makes some very good points in a thoughtful way, and last but not least, he raises a specter of something more and more experts are beginning to notice—in the coming years we will have a glut of low-skilled workers and no jobs.  So what then will happen to all of the third world immigrants we have imported ostensibly to do the jobs Americans won’t do?  Nachman asks that question.

After you read the whole essay, you might want to send a letter or comment to the paper yourself.  Help Montanans decide if they should “change” the character of their state by “welcoming” refugees from places like Somalia, Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.

From the Independent Record:

Stephen Maly’s op-ed “Exploring the possibility of welcoming Syrian refugees to Helena” (June 25) is heartfelt. But it’s also a nonstarter because most of what Mr. Maly wrote has negligible overlap with the current realities of refugee resettlement in the United States.

These realities usually startle people new to the subject. One pictures carefully selected refugees shepherded to new lives in America by doting non-governmental organizations rooted in religion (e.g. Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service) or civic concern (e.g. International Rescue Committee). Surely such groups assist their charges in finding housing and employment and in assimilating to American life, while also providing financial support until “their” refugees attain self-sufficiency? And surely they fund this support and the salaries of their professional resettlement workers using contributions gathered by “passing the plate” in their churches or by attracting private philanthropy?

Well, no. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees does the selecting, pressing their selectees on national bureaucracies such as the U.S. State Department. In turn, the State Department — working with LIRS, IRC and seven other NGOs — identifies American cities and towns for concentrated resettlement of the refugees, typically paying minimal attention to the capabilities and resources of these receiving communities. Indeed, the communities often learn about their new arrivals after the fact.

The sponsoring NGOs’ refugee work is funded almost entirely by the federal taxpayer, not from resources they’re raised themselves, so they’re best viewed as federal contractors. And the contractors’ obligations to any particular refugees end after a few months, no matter how inadequately their charges have assimilated during that brief span.

Now this is the part that I found alarming because I have been hearing this warning from several sources lately.

Mr. Maly’s worry about systemic worker shortages is probably misplaced, anyway. The cover story in the July/August Atlantic is “A World Without Work.” Author Derek Thompson argues that galloping computer-driven automation is en route to destroying, on net, tens of millions of American jobs. If so, the issue for our society will be the distribution of sustenance to those forced out of the workforce, without engendering the resentment of those still working. We certainly won’t need to import workers from abroad.

There is more, please continue here.

Please send a comment to the Independent Record especially if you have information about how the refugee program is problematic where you live.

Add one more to the list of countries whose nationals can stay in the US forever—Nepal

The Temporary Protected Status (TPS) category, a legal immigration program, is anything but temporary.  The Obama Administration has just added Nepal to its list of countries whose citizens can stay as temporary refugees, work (and probably vote!) here forever because the temporary designation is simply extended every time it expires.

I say this repeatedly, but when your friends (or your Member of Congress) says legal immigration is good, remember TPS and know that they don’t know what they are talking about.

“Temporary” refugees from Nepal will send US dollars back to rebuild the country after the April earthquake. Photo: http://time.com/3928685/nepal-earthquake-recovery-donors-food-rice/

The gist of it is that we would be considered bad people if we sent nationals back to their home country in the middle of a crisis, but the problem is that ten years or more after the crisis is long over, we simply extend their stay as they wait for the Obama/Republican amnesty.  The temporary designation is a sham!
From NBC News:

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has granted Nepal Temporary Protected Status (TPS) under the Immigration and Nationality Act following the devastation of the massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake of April 25 and subsequent earthquakes and aftershocks which are estimated to have killed over 5,200 people, injured more than 12,500 people, and displaced approximately 2.8 million people.

This designation will allow approximately 10,000 to 25,000 Nepali nationals currently in the United States to stay and to work until December 2016, even if their visas expire, without threat of being detained or deported.

They will be permitted to send money out of the country (called remittances) which is a drain on OUR economy!  In 2012, $123,273,000,000 left the US via remittances to the third world.  The next time you see one of those studies being promoted by the likes of ‘Welcoming America’ about how immigrants boost the local economy, ask if they included remittances leaving America in their study!

In addition to safety concerns, being authorized to work in the United States will allow Nepali nationals to work and send money back to Nepal to help the country rebuild.

Other countries which have been granted TPS in the past due to ongoing armed conflict, environmental disasters, and other extraordinary conditions include Haiti, Honduras, El Salvador, and Syria.

More at NBC here.
By the way, I heard recently that there are up to 25,000 Syrians in the US eligible to stay under TPS.

For a laugh, check this out:   Hondurans were given TPS in 1999!  Salvadorans in 2001 and Haitians in 2011.   So much for TEMPORARY!

There is an application in for Yemen too!

Idaho: Get ready for Somali refugees as county approves huge meatpacking plant near Boise

Update June 22:  Twin Falls, ID newspaper editor attempts to silence RRW, here.   And, Boise Mayor welcomes third world to Idaho, here.

One more piece of the puzzle has been found!  Idaho will ‘welcome’ refugees because big industries need cheap labor (for jobs Americans won’t do, right!).

BIG MEAT changing America! Filling those wide open spaces with a massive meat processing facility and bringing in refugee labor to fill the jobs! Watch for it!

Reader Dave saw our post yesterday about Twin Falls and the Chobani Yogurt plant, and now gives us hot news that Ada County is going to get a meatpacking giant!  Kuna, in Ada County, is less than a half an hour from Boise (the largest refugee resettlement site in Idaho).

We have for years told you that since Bill Clinton supplied the first refugees for Iowa meat processors (here), that BIG MEAT was changing rural America with the help of the UN/US State Department and its ‘religious’ resettlement contractors acting as head hunters for big business.

This is one of literally dozens of posts here at RRW about the role meatpackers are playing in changing America.
Remember readers, it is all about the money!
The Somalis, in particular, move around the country as meatpacking jobs become available, but surely the welcome wagon in Idaho expects Congolese, Burmese, and Bhutanese slave laborers to help fill the employment needs.  Mark my words, no matter how high the meatpacker says the salaries will be, they will be too low for anyone other than immigrants and refugees whose families are being subsidized through generous welfare gratis the US taxpayer!
Before reading on, see BOISE MAYOR ROLLS OUT WELCOME MAT FOR REFUGEES!  I want to barf every time I see our elected officials sell out America with the help of the refugee resettlement ‘do-gooders.’
From KTVB.com:

KUNA, Idaho — There are hundreds of new jobs coming to the Kuna area, thanks to the county’s approval of a meat processing facility near the small town.

Right now, there’s a field East of Kuna that’s home to some whistlepigs and a little bit of heavy machinery. But, business leaders say by next year, it will be home to 600 jobs.

Thursday night, along with his fellow Ada County Commissioners, Dave Case approved the building of a 380,000 square foot, $100 million meat processing plant. “Obviously, it will be good for the economy.”

They haven’t broken ground yet, but crews are already doing some prep work. It’s a joint venture between the J. R. Simplot Company and a Texas meat packing company, Caviness Beef Packers. Kuna Mayor Greg Nelson says it will be a huge economic boost for the bedroom community, which has few jobs of its own right now.

There is more, read on.    These county commissioners are dumb enough to think that lots of locals will find work cutting meat.  Or, maybe they know better and are lying to the public!
Neighbors and members of the public are worried about smells and environmental problems, but they will have a lot more to worry about when the Somalis come to town!
By the way, do you remember that Senator Jeff Sessions fingered the meatpackers in 2013 as one of the big industries lobbying for amnesty, here.
Endnote:  I would be interested to know who made a killing selling this land to the meat giant?
