Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains largely funded by government contracts

Since we are closely following the controversy in Wyoming (see our previous post), let’s have a look at who exactly has expressed an interest in being the federal government contractor wishing to do business and resettle clients in Wyoming—Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (LFSRM) sometimes known as Lutheran Family Services Colorado.  (Why they need to operate under two names is beyond me!).

Rocky Mountain ‘Lutheran’ CEO Barclay makes just short of $200,000 in salary and benefits.

Let’s not tip our hand prematurely!

We first became aware of their role when it was learned that officials there were unhappy to be prematurely mentioned in publicity surrounding Wyoming Governor Mead’s proposed plan.  They wanted the plans for Wyoming to be kept secret from the general public until they were further along.

“The largest refugee resettlement agency in the Rocky Mountain region.” they have “offices located in Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Greeley/Evans and Fort Morgan, CO and Albuquerque, NM, and services provided in Wyoming, Montana and Western Nebraska.”

Although they do other work for children and families, they had time to resettle a whopping 1,567 refugees in FY12-13.  Learn more here.

LFSRM is a subcontractor of the much larger Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services (LIRS) headquartered in Baltimore, MD.   Just the other day we noted that LIRS has taken down its reference to an office in Casper, WY:

Note that in this post we wrote in July, LIRS linked a Casper, Wyoming office (Gillette and Casper are two cities mentioned as possible resettlement sites).  However, if you go to LIRS website today the link has been erased.  Have they given up? Or, are they just laying low until the political storm blows over?

Could they possibly have already been bringing in those Somalis we wrote about here?

Funded almost entirely with taxpayer dollars!

Lutheran Family Services RM is not a privately-funded church group, it is a quasi-government agency which is 84% funded by tax dollars.

Let’s visit their most recently available Form 990 here.

Their gross revenue was $12,915,054

$10,812,318 comes from government contracts.

Although they don’t list grants they do list government contracts on page 9 (they took the word “government” out in this Form 990, but I checked previous ones to be sure in which they did categorize the majority of their income as from “government contracts.”).  LOL! I think these so-called ‘non-profits’ are increasingly sensitive and don’t want you to know how much they depend on tax dollars. This is a business not a charity!

When you visit that previous Form 990, check out the big jump Barclay’s salary took in just two years from 2010-2012!

CEO James Barclay makes a cool $199,330 in salary and benefits and 4 other top executives are in the 6-figure category including James Horan who runs their refugee branch. (page 8).  Barclay made $172,267 two years earlier.

Then here are some of their expenses (rounded numbers).  Without your cash they could not exist!

Nearly $5 million in salary, benefits and employment expenses were paid out.

Occupancy and other office expenses approached $900,000.

$259,000 went for travel expenses (what for just the Rocky Mountain region?).

$55,000 was spent for conferences.

And, they even spent $32,000 lobbying (for what?  more money from government?).

More on page 10.

In order to keep the government gravy train chugging along they have to bring in more and more refugees and likely they are running out of places for them in Colorado, thus their venture in Wyoming!

Every one of you concerned about refugee overload for your community must research who will benefit from more immigrants in your town or city because it is sad to say — this is all about money!  (and about changing the demographic makeup of your town).

Several years ago we followed the controversy (mostly in Colorado) about Somalis working at meatpacking plants and demanding special prayer times in the workplace.  Our entire category, entitled ‘Greeley/Swift Somali Controversy‘ should be useful for readers here.  I didn’t realize, at the time (or I don’t think I did), what the role of Lutheran Family Services Colorado was in all of this—they likely were the source of all the Somali workers for meat packing companies.  Adding insult to injury, Swift is a Brazilian owned company!

Globalists seek to change Nebraska and the ‘heartland’ with immigrants

They say that population declines in the Midwest can be fixed by pouring in more immigrants, and they have the resources to promote studies backing their argument.

But, isn’t this the same flawed thinking that has Europe in decline?  Didn’t France buy this argument a couple of decades ago and now is facing the whirlwind after having brought in the African immigrants to supposedly do the work, but who are instead destroying the French culture and society (not to mention pulling down the economy and bringing crime)?

Somalis protest against JBS Swift in Grand Island for not giving them special prayer break times. We wrote a lot about this five or six years ago. http://www.wardheernews.com/News_08/September/17_protest_over_right_to_pray.html

Here is the disturbing news about something called the Chicago Council on Global Affairs that has Michelle Obama on its board of directors—see the list of directors!

From the Grand Island Independent:

[By the way, it makes me sad to see this about Grand Island, I once went there to see the Sandhill Crane migration—a typical American Midwest town in the ’70’s—ed]

Grand Island fits into a trend of Midwestern communities making efforts to ease the transition of immigrants and seeing population growth as a result.

Those conclusions can be seen in two reports issued by the Chicago Council of Global Affairs. One report, issued in September in a joint project with the American Immigration Council, is called “Reimagining the Midwest: Immigration Initiatives and the Capacity of Local Leadership.”

[….]

While “new Hispanic resident” does not necessarily mean “new immigrant,” most of the county’s growth in Hispanic residents has come from immigrants. Hall County and Grand Island also have added significant numbers of Sudanese, Somali and Asian refugees and immigrants during recent decades.

Reports like this one—Growing the Heartland—will be used as propaganda to convince American towns and cities that it is inevitable (and necessary!) that third-worlders will be moving in.   It is really all about global corporations, like meatpackers, needing cheap and abundant labor, and Leftists needing Democrat voters!

The “Growing the Heartland” report says the Davenport, Iowa-Illinois metropolitan area and the metropolitan areas of Duluth, Minn.; South Bend, Ind.; and Terre Haute, Ind., all owed 100 percent of their population gain to immigrants.

The Tri-State Chicago metropolitan area, as well as Akron, Ohio; Lansing, Mich.; St. Joseph, Mo.; and Sheboygan, Wis., all had population gains that were mostly attributable to immigration. Sheboygan led that list at more than 82 percent, while the remaining four areas owed about 54 percent of their population gains to immigration.

The report lists another 42 metropolitan areas with population growth partially attributable to immigration. They include Omaha, which owes 26 percent of its population growth to immigration, and Lincoln, which owes just more than 19 percent to immigration.

The report asserts population growth is a prerequisite for economic vitality: “Population decline threatens economic competitiveness, decreases the number of taxpayers and reduces political representation and influence at the federal level.”  [LOL! but what sort of political influence will the new immigrants have on the federal level? Democrats all?—ed]

The transition hasn’t gone smoothly in Grand Island!

I didn’t realize we had so many posts on Grand Island, Nebraska going back several years, check out the archive here.  See especially this post from 2010 where the police chief in the city says it is “chaotic anarchy” in GI with all the ethnic groups coming in.

Mexican government paying legal fees so illegal alien kids can stay in America

Now why would they do a thing like that?  Wouldn’t you think that they would need these young people in Mexico—aren’t they Mexico’s future?

Yes, they are—right here in the USA!  They are Mexico’s pipeline to American money!

Can you say remittances!

It is cheaper to assure Mexicans can stay and work in America by paying their legal bills than to have them come home empty-handed.

I remember first hearing about the desire of some Central American governments to keep Temporary Protected Status alive for Salvadorans (for instance) during the Bush years.  Bush even acknowledged in one news report I saw (can’t find it now) that the remittances sent ‘home’ to El Salvador kept the country’s economy propped up!

Why do you think Central American governments turned a blind eye when the ‘UACs’ stormed the US border this summer?

Remittance-receiving countries in 2010. http://www.federalreserve.gov/publications/other-reports/ACH-report-201107.htm

Here is the news I’m seeing everywhere about this Mexican dirty trick.  From Breitbart (via Drudge):

The government of Mexico is paying to help its citizens who are living illegally in the United States avoid deportation.

According to a report from National Public Radio, the Mexican government through its 50 consulates around the United States has been helping to fund low-income illegal immigrants to apply for President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA — which shields illegal immigrants from deportation and allows them to work in the U.S.

NPR’s report details the story of Tania Guzman, an illegal immigrant who said the cost of applying for DACA worried her, but she was able to afford it after her pro-bono lawyer from Public Counsel told her she could access financial help from the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles.

Mexico paid for all Guzman’s attorney fees and application fees, according to NPR. In the end Guzman told NPR she paid just $50.

The report explains that since 2012, the year DACA began, the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles has assisted more then 260 Mexican illegal immigrants apply for protections under DACA.

Julian Escutia, an official with the Mexican Embassy in Washington, told NPR that it does not keep track of how many illegal immigrants’ DACA applications they fund, and that funding is “on a case-by case basis.”

“Our main objective is the well-being of our nationals wherever they are,” he said. “So what we want for them is that they are successful and really continue contributing to this country [the U.S.],” she told NPR.  [What a joke, it is all about the money for Mexico!—ed]

It is about remittances!  See this detailed report from the World Bank from this past spring entitled:

‘Remittances to developing countries to stay robust this year, despite increased deportations of migrant workers, says WB’

The next time you see one of those economic reports (promoted by the likes of “Welcoming America”) purporting to show that immigrants are an economic plus to a city—that they are working, paying taxes, starting businesses, and drawing federal welfare bucks to a city—check to see if the report includes how many US dollars those same immigrants are sending out of your city to their “home” country.  I wager that figure is never included in the analysis!

Regarding the graph:  Go to this Congressional report and see that in 2010 (a slow economic year!) $48 Billion US dollars in remittances flowed out of the country to the developing world.  I’m sure there are newer figures available, and that the number is much greater, but these graphs give you a good idea.

Also, see this post I wrote at PTPR in 2013—Money the principle driver of foreign governments’ interest in US “immigration reform.”

For all of our coverage of ‘Unaccompanied minors’ go here.

Update of sorts!  It is an older article, but a reader reminds us of this story from last month that is further evidence of Mexico and the Obama Administration protecting Mexico’s workers in America (US Signs Agreement with Mexico to Protect Mexican Workers–Including Illegals).

Tennessee concerned citizen to speak on refugees/states rights in Union City Tuesday

Editors note:  This is an example of what you can do as American patriots to help get the message out that the refugee resettlement program of the US government is flawed and in need of immediate reform—become a citizen investigator and help spread the word.

If you are in the vicinity of Union City, please get to this meeting!

Tennessee’s Citizens Pay the Price for Resettlement of Refugees Here

Think the resettlement of refugees in Tennessee has no effect on you and your family? Think again.

Joanne Bregman, an attorney with experience in the appellate division of the National Labor Relations Board and on Capitol Hill, was a New York native and longtime liberal when she chose, with her U.S. Army veteran husband, to make a life in the South and settled in Nashville some years ago.

Although she has kept her license active, she has not practiced in the Volunteer State. But that doesn’t mean she has been uninvolved or is unaware. It means, instead, that she has focused her attention on needs that are paramount for her family and, through it all, she has not only changed many of her political opinions, but she has used the analytical skills she learned as a young attorney, coupled with the passion to do what is best for her own special needs daughter, to find a new way to use that expertise.

Tennessee Governor Haslam warns agencies to prepare for large budget cuts due to revenue shortfall. http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2014/09/30/haslam-asks-bigger-cuts-revenue-shortfall/16504221/

Mrs. Bregman will be in Union City Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. to talk about questions related to the state’s refugee resettlement program and to give local residents an idea how that program affects their lives. She will be the guest speaker at the Obion County TEA Party meeting in the family life center at Union City First United Methodist Church at 420 East Main St. There is a parking lot for the church and an entrance to the family life center behind the sanctuary on South Ury Street.

Refreshments will be served at 6:30, with the program to begin at 7.

The special guest for the local organization is a writer and speaker and a student of the federal-state relationship in the refugee resettlement program.

She is the granddaughter of immigrants who came to this country with no English language skills at a time when there were also no government programs to assist those seeking a new life.

Still, through hard work and determination, her grandfather found a job in a candle factory, while her grandmother stayed home to raise a large family, with the goal of having their children become Americans.

“Today, when I think about what they did, I feel we are taking a hand in our own destruction in this country with what we are abandoning,” Mrs. Bregman says. Describing herself as a previous “low information voter” with little knowledge of how political systems, in particular, work, she says circumstances forced her to become more politically astute and more thoroughly educated on how states and local communities are negatively affected by decisions at the federal level.

Assisting families with special needs children, she found herself unraveling some of the intricacies of TennCare on their behalf and, while she doesn’t consider herself an expert on the subject, she says she can hold her own in any discussion about the program.

She also found out about some of the problems those families were facing with an education system that was not always abiding by the rules and with a Department of Children’s Services whose background checks for employees working with nonverbal special needs children were often deficient.

That discovery and the resulting effort to see a bill passed that would address the problems served as her introduction to the Tennessee State Legislature.

“There were lots of legislators there who were very kind to us, because they understood we were just citizens. They led us and assisted us to get a good bill,” she says.

Two years later, she found herself assisting Tennessee Eagle Forum, a group with whom she shares some views, though not necessarily all. Her efforts were always as a citizen lobbyist, since her priority was in meeting the needs of a disabled daughter who required 24/7 care.

Along the way, she met Don Barnett, who has devoted years to working on the issue of refugee resettlement. Barnett, she says, was a prophet, who noted as early as 2004 that America would find herself in precisely the situation she does today, with thousands of children streaming across her southern border, because of changes in the law about dealing with minors.

Barnett requested her help with a thorny problem and, through this work, Mrs. Bregman says she was flabbergasted by the things she learned.

“It was so symbolic of where we are with our federal government today,” she says of the experience. It has been more than a year, she points out, since she was part of filing a freedom of information act request related to refugee resettlement, and she still has not received the documents; nor have representatives of legislative offices been able to shake them loose from federal clutches. The State Department denied ever having received the request, in fact.

“Things are so dysfunctional and entrenched in our federal government that it astounds me,” she says.

Nevertheless, she has pressed on in her effort to unravel information and what she has learned has continued to astound and distress her, even as it has aided in her understanding of states’ rights and the ways fiscal priorities are addressed by the government.

In 2013, she says, Gov. Bill Haslam said that healthcare costs for Tennesseans in need of assistance would gobble up 60 percent of all new state revenue. Then, a few weeks ago, he warned all departments in the state that they must prepare for 7 percent budget cuts across the board. “So he’s predicting some bad stuff, and maybe cutting some essential services,” she says.

Meanwhile, she knows first hand about the backlog of citizens with disabilities in Tennessee waiting for assistance from the state.

Tennessee has a Medicaid waiver program with a proposed two for one match of federal and state dollars that is designated to enable citizens with disabilities to live in their communities, rather than in far more expensive institutions. The problem is, the program has been a low priority and has never been adequately funded, even under Democratic leadership at the state level.

As a result there are more than 7,000 Tennesseans on a waiting list to get this important assistance.

By contrast, the State Department, relying on the selection “committees” of the United Nations, takes upwards of 70,000 refugees into this country every year and passes them on to the states. In Tennessee, these resettled refugees immediately become eligible for TennCare, while Tennesseans with desperate needs languish on a list.

In 2008, Tennessee withdrew from the federal refugee resettlement program, so the federal government simply contracted with Catholic Charities to run it, instead.

“When people in Tennessee say, ‘Stop. We don’t want this program,’ how is it possible that the feds simply go through a private agency after that?” she asks.

The refugees, she points out, don’t always come with reliable documentation about their histories, so it is impossible to tell if they have terrorist ties. Think the mention of that fact is a scare tactic? Then consider that two refugees in Bowling Green, Ky., were charged with providing material support to al-Qaeda, and that is only one example.

If the program worked the way the federal government optimistically describes it, Mrs. Bregman says, most of the money to help these refugees would come from private donations, with federal dollars simply augmenting the program. The fact is, however, private funding is far outstripped by dollars that come from the pockets of taxpayers in the states.

What would happen, Mrs. Bregman asks, if instead of spending the money on refugees, Tennesseans chose to spend it on their most vulnerable citizens?

There is no Constitutional authority for making the states responsible for the costs of the federal program, Mrs. Bregman contends, and yet, it happened anyway, and the feds continue to go around the state authority and contract with private agencies to get the refugees “settled.” The term encompasses sign-up for SSI and all public benefits, plus immediate entry into the education system. While the federal government offers this amazing largesse in the land of opportunity, however, the states pay the price — which means taxpaying citizens pay the price, both in dollars removed from their pockets and services lost or delayed for themselves and their families.

The refugee resettlement issue and other 10th Amendment concerns will be the focus of the Nashville citizen volunteer’s program locally.

The community is invited to attend and learn what the federal government is up to and what they can do to alter the picture, relying on the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Readers, Tennessee is at the forefront of challenging the federal refugee resettlement program.   We need more people like Joanne Bregman and Don Barnett sounding the alarm—fearless citizens concerned for the future of America in all 50 states!

About Tennessee Governor Haslam’s budget shortfall, guess he didn’t read about the immigrants getting all the jobs in Tennessee, here.  So, if the immigrants are working, where is the money going—overseas, as remittances, maybe?

Soul-searching in Scandinavia over Syrian refugees

Wow!  This is a very enlightening piece.  And, it’s in the New York Times no less!

Stockholm under siege in May 2013 as Muslim migrants riot. http://d.ibtimes.co.uk/en/full/452746/fourth-night-fires-unrest-stockholm.jpg?w=480&h=270

Swedish counter-terrorism expert:

We are righteous. But sometimes the righteousness doesn’t meet reality.”

Seems that as Sweden opens its doors to Syrians (and the public is expected to stay quiet), in Norway the government is not going to swing its doors open and the “anti-immigrant” political forces are encouraged to discuss their concerns and fears about excessive immigration.  (I wonder did Anders Breivik have something to do with the new-found openness?)

From The New York Times (emphasis is mine):

THE narrow victory of the left-leaning Social Democratic Party in Sweden’s elections last Sunday marked a broad shift in its politics. But a new coalition government is unlikely to reconsider one of the country’s most challenging policies: its response to the Syrian civil war.

Sweden has taken an open-door approach to people fleeing the conflict, accepting more Syrians than any other European country.

Never mind that Sweden has double-digit youth unemployment. That there have been riots in immigrant neighborhoods in Stockholm. That there is a severe housing shortage for new arrivals. Or that the Swedish Migration Board, which handles asylum seekers, needs a drastic budget increase — almost $7 billion — to cover soaring costs over the next few years.

And never mind that the far-right, anti-immigrant Sweden Democrats won 13 percent of the vote in Sunday’s election, their best showing ever. They more than doubled their seats in Parliament — from 20 to 49 — and are now the third-biggest party in the country.

“We are the moral guardians of the world,” Magnus Ranstorp, a specialist in counterterrorism at the Swedish National Defense College, told me a few days before the election, referring to Swedes. “We haven’t fought a war in 200 years. We are righteous. But sometimes the righteousness doesn’t meet reality.”

As the Syrian conflict has turned into a regional humanitarian crisis, more European countries are accepting Syrian refugees preselected by the United Nations. But apart from Germany, a much larger country, only Sweden is welcoming tens of thousands of Syrians who come on their own and request asylum.

Some 40,000 Syrians have arrived in Sweden since the conflict began. And following a decision to offer permanent residency to all Syrians, Sweden is expecting more than 80,000 asylum seekers in 2014, many of them from Syria.

In its largess, Sweden diverges from countries like Britain, the Netherlands and Denmark, which have taken in far fewer Syrian asylum-seekers — generally granting them only temporary residency — and just several hundred United Nations-sponsored refugees each. Even more dramatic is the contrast with Norway……

There is much much more, read it all.

All of our posts on Sweden (chronicling its death spiral) are here.

Watch for it!  We are going to learn that open borders in a welfare state will result in chaos and ultimately death for the country.

Reminder!  The US is about to welcome tens of thousands of Syrians!
