Obama: Give illegal aliens amnesty so they can get health care

Here is a story that you will see everywhere today.  I got it from Drudge.   Ten days ago I predicted this in a post on how illegal aliens would be eligible for health care under the house bill HR3200.   This is what I said on September 8th:

Of course, the Administration is also figuring on getting amnesty through this coming year and all this would be moot—illegals would be magically transformed to legals over night, and a whole new wave of immigrants would be flowing across the border.

This is what Obama said this week:

President Obama said this week that his health care plan won’t cover illegal immigrants, but argued that’s all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage.

He also staked out a position that anyone in the country legally should be covered – a major break with the 1996 welfare reform bill, which limited most federal public assistance programs only to citizens and longtime immigrants. 

“Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don’t simply believe we can simply ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken,” Mr. Obama said Wednesday evening in a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. “That’s why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else. 

Mr. Obama added, “If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all.”

So, what did I tell you above, Obama just figures the issue of whether health care reform covers illegals or not will be moot once he gets amnesty.

However, my question still remains, what is to stop new illegals and phony asylum seekers from coming across the border the very next day and creating a new wave of immigrants looking to become legal.

Three Uighurs agree to be resettled in Palau

This is the latest on the on-again-off-again story of the Chinese Muslims being held at Gitmo.  The Obama Administration wants a few more released, but the group which was offered the Pacific island nation Palau has been reluctant.  Looks like three have agreed, but get this they will be allowed to travel.  From Fox News (hat tip:  Blulitespecial):

KOROR, Palau – Three Chinese Muslims imprisoned for years at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay have agreed to be released to the tiny Pacific nation of Palau, their lawyers told The Associated Press.

The deals struck recently with U.S. officials are the first among a group of 13 Uighur detainees at Guantanamo who have been offered relocation to Palau under President Barack Obama’s plans to close the controversial prison in Cuba. Negotiations are continuing with the rest of the group.

Relocating the Uighurs would bring the Obama administration a step closer to its goal of finding new homes for terrorism suspects and others captured in Afghanistan who have been cleared of wrongdoing but cannot go home for fear of persecution.

But it has also raised tension with Beijing, which regards the inmates as terrorist suspects and wants them returned to China.

Clarke has said previously that the detainees had been concerned about whether they would be allowed to travel after getting settled in Palau. His clients hope eventually to make the Hajj, or holy pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

The Uighurs will not be eligible for Palauan passports but the government has said the men would be free to travel so long as another country accepted them. It’s not clear what passports they would have.

No Uighurs currently live in Palau, though there is a Muslim population of about 400 — mostly Bangladeshi migrant workers.

I’ll bet you a buck the Obama Administration gives them US passports!

Prominant liberal writer suggests it might be too late for Obama

Camille Paglia writing at Salon.com (hat tip: Drudge) asks some critical questions about Democrats and liberalism that go right along with what we’ve been contending on these pages and with what David Horowitz told Glenn Beck here last Friday.

Ms. Paglia:

Why has the Democratic Party become so arrogantly detached from ordinary Americans? Though they claim to speak for the poor and dispossessed, Democrats have increasingly become the party of an upper-middle-class professional elite, top-heavy with journalists, academics and lawyers (one reason for the hypocritical absence of tort reform in the healthcare bills). Weirdly, given their worship of highly individualistic, secularized self-actualization, such professionals are as a whole amazingly credulous these days about big-government solutions to every social problem. They see no danger in expanding government authority and intrusive, wasteful bureaucracy. This is, I submit, a stunning turn away from the anti-authority and anti-establishment principles of authentic 1960s leftism.

How has “liberty” become the inspirational code word of conservatives rather than liberals?

I have lots of things I would like to say to Ms. Paglia in answer to this question, but most importantly the answer is that it was never true.  Liberals never wanted liberty (they just talked a good game) and Democrats were really never the best helpers of the poor and that is why many of us stopped being liberals!

CIS: Illegal aliens would be covered under HR 3200

Update September 11th:   Rep Joe Wilson’s outburst calling Obama a liar on this issue the other night has served a very useful purpose, the media must now admit that what CIS says here is true.  Illegal aliens will receive health care benefits, from Gateway Pundit, here.

HR 3200 is the House version of Obama’s health care reform, and although Obama claims illegal aliens will not be covered, this report from the Center for Immigration Studies disputes that claim.

CIS:

Based on our analysis of Census Bureau data, we estimate that there are 6.6 million uninsured illegal immigrants in the United States who could be covered by the new health care reform bill (HR 3200). Even though HR 3200 states that illegal immigrants are not eligible for the proposed taxpayer-funded affordable premium credits, there is nothing in the bill to enforce this. An amendment was defeated in committee that would have required the use of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, used by almost all other means-tested programs of this kind.

Sierra Club supports communist Van Jones

Note to readers:  If you think I’m getting too far afield from issues involving refugees and immigrants, I assure you I am not.  As I pointed out the other day the mainstream environmental groups have joined the open borders crowd and BIG businesses(cheap labor) and unions (dues paying members) to change America into something I and millions of others disagree with.  See yesterday’s post on David Horowitz here, and my post on the Sierra Club, the Apollo Alliance and open borders here.

Carl Pope, Executive Director of the Sierra Club admitted in a column at their website yesterday that Van Jones (aka Anthony K), the Obama Administration’s former Green Czar, an avowed communist and revolutionary, was a good friend of his and that they, progressives, didn’t  initially take seriously the investigation going on in the blogospere and on Glenn Beck about Jones’ radical past.  

In a column entitled, ‘We All Blew It”, Pope attributes the unearthing of Jones’ radical ties to reactionary racists wanting to bring him down because he is black.  

Forget it Pope, you must think you are back in the 1960’s, race baiting doesn’t cut it anymore.  It’s not about offensive words and the color of someone’s skin, it’s about philosophy and it’s about the FACT that most Americans do not want a Socialist/Communist form of government run by a bunch of rich elitists like you.

This was a lynch mob and, when it started forming a month ago, we didn’t take it seriously enough. When I saw the first Glenn Beck piece on Van Jones and the Apollo Alliance as the new vast left-wing conspiracy, I could not take it seriously. Silence enabled Fox to keep pushing. The statements for which Jones apologized — the reference to the right as “assholes” and saying that Bush was talking “like a crack-head” were such ordinary political discourse — think Rahm Emmanuel, think Dick Cheney saying “fuck yourself” to Senator Leahy, think Tom Friedman dubbing Bush “the addict-in-chief” — that I didn’t understand why an apology was necessary; I assumed it would blow over.

You blew it alright because you don’t get it.  You can’t call people racists anymore and have them scurry away.  And, if it weren’t for people like you continually stirring up race as a way to achieve your political ends the country would have long since calmed down on the subject.

Well, that [underestimating the American people!] was a mistake. So was the decision by the White House to treat the initial attacks not as part of an assault on the president but, instead, to allow them to be viewed as being about Van Jones. What we underestimated was the power of the fact that both Jones and the Barack Obama are black. Yes, the hysteria was about politics — I don’t think Fox News really cares about Jones’s ethnicity — but it was enabled by race. Calling Bush a “crack-head” is seen by a large part of America as worse than calling him “addict-in-chief” because crack is not just a drug — it is a drug used largely by black people. It reminds those Americans who are still uncomfortable with Barack Obama that we have a black president.

Read his whole post and then be sure to not miss this unbelievable film of a joint interview with Pope and Van Jones.  Pompous Pope calls it a “video dialogue.”   Pope comes across as an old hippie who never grew up and wishes he were back in the glory days and Jones is hankering to bring on a revolution ’cause golly-gee he was in the womb when Martin Luther King  and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated  and he missed out on all the riotous fun.  Get ready to barf!

One final thought:  The film will give you an idea of how it came to be that, despite the obvious deleterious environmental impact out-of-control immigration has on the environment, the Sierra Club came to be (through their silence) an open borders advocate.
