Federal grants go to religious groups to help immigrants become citizens

Your tax dollars:

What did I tell you a few hours ago, the reason religious organizations don’t listen to logical arguments from people like Roy Beck about how excessive immigration hurts Americans is because they receive enormous amounts of federal money.   And, they have a political agenda—getting more voters for the Far Left.  Here is an AP story that illustrates my point beautifully:

DALLAS — Federal immigration officials on Thursday awarded a Dallas group and 12 other organizations around the country $1.2 million in grants to help legal residents become U.S. citizens.

Citizenship and Immigration Services awarded $100,000 to Catholic Charities Immigration and Legal Services. It wasn’t immediately clear how much money was awarded to the other groups, but the agency said they could apply for up to $100,000.

If good Christian and Jewish people want to help immigrants become citizens couldn’t they do it on a voluntary basis?   Silly me! Not much chance of that once they have gotten on the taxpayer funded gravy train there is no incentive to do what once was truly an act of charity—giving one’s time for free.

The agency said the money goes to increase the number of people served by programs that help green card holders improve their English skills, learn about U.S. history and government, and prepare for the naturalization process.

The funds can only be used to provide direct services to immigrants with legal status in the country.

Other recipients include the Association House of Chicago; Central American Resource Center in Los Angeles; Federation Employment and Guidance Service Inc. in New York; International Institute of St. Louis; and the International Rescue Committee Inc. in San Diego.

Grants also went to the Jewish Family and Children’s Services in San Francisco; Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest Inc. in New Jersey; Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas, based in North Carolina; OneAmerica in Seattle; Progreso Latino in Rhode Island; Saint Mark Roman Catholic Parish in Massachusetts; and Young Women’s Christian Association in Oklahoma.

To Roy Beck: it is money and power driving the Religious Left

Update:  Here is an article I found shortly after writing this post that makes my point about money and political power ie. voters.

I just came across this article by Roy Beck at NumbersUSA from a few days ago. Beck says in his post that he has tried to reach out to the Religious Left (my label, not his) about his and his group’s perspective on immigration, but to no avail.

This week the Open Borders religious groups held a political event, calling it a prayer vigil to protest in support of amnesty for illegal aliens and to encourage more immigration to the US and to apparently denigrate opponents.

Here is what Mr. Beck said:

The immigration debate often brings out the worst in people, but it still is disappointing to see the sad display by a number of bishops and other religious leaders yesterday outside the Capitol. They used their prayer vigil to spew hatred at their fellow Christians and other Americans working to reduce immigration in order to help the most vulnerable members of our society.

[…..]

I have tried for years to meet with the national religious leaders to discuss the principles involved in the immigration debate — and maybe even to find some common ground. But I have been continually rebuffed. Most of these national religious bodies have now passed resolutions supporting “comprehensive immigration reform” (amnesty and green card increases) without ever allowing themselves to hear our side of the issue.

And now they have decided to accept the hateful rhetoric and smears of the Southern Poverty Law Center as gospel truth. It is clear that these religious leaders regard all of us immigration-reductionists as their enemy. But while Jesus taught that people should love their enemies, these religious leaders have decided to bear false witness against us.

Mr. Beck, I respectfully urge you to watch Glenn Beck if you aren’t already.  Just as ACORN* hid its corruption and political power agenda under a patina of humanitarianism, so too do most of the groups on the Religious Left.   Immigrants serve several purposes for organizations such as the US Conference of Catholic Bishops; they are a source of enormous federal funding for these “religious” groups and the immigrants  (something we have demonstrated many times on these pages) can generally be counted on to vote for far left candidates.  It is all about money and political power and that is why they don’t listen to your logical arguments about how their agenda shows no regard or charitable concern for Americans they hurt.

Far left (communist, socialist, statist, whatever you want to call them) political activists involved with foundations have long since infiltrated and indoctrinated religious groups.  I saw it years ago when for instance the Pew Charitable Trusts created its “Greening of the Churches” initiative.  It was a cynincal ploy to reach people using an issue that those with goals to change America and make it a socialist country knew would appeal to decent caring church-going people.  They use the same strategy with the immigration issue.

Glenn Beck has been bit by bit unraveling the deep tentacles of the Far Left.  One basic tenant of their agenda involves the flooding of America with welfare recipients in order to bring down our present form of government.  The thinking for this mechanism for ‘changing’ America comes from Columbia University sociology professors Cloward and Piven.  We recently discussed their strategy here.

My suggestion Mr. Beck is to stop worrying about reaching religious leaders on the Left.  You need to get past the phony Christian charity image they have carefully crafted, and you might better be able to reach their parishoners and the general public with your message by working to expose how taxpayer funds are going to promote the political agenda of these supposedly charitable religious groups.

*Follow-up post here.

Note on the Southern Poverty Law Center:  I’m told that yesterday Rush Limbaugh again mentioned Mark Potok of the SPLC and as a result we were flooded with visitors to this old post of mine from February about how Potok uses Alinsky’s rules to smear people.

Obama: Give illegal aliens amnesty so they can get health care

Here is a story that you will see everywhere today.  I got it from Drudge.   Ten days ago I predicted this in a post on how illegal aliens would be eligible for health care under the house bill HR3200.   This is what I said on September 8th:

Of course, the Administration is also figuring on getting amnesty through this coming year and all this would be moot—illegals would be magically transformed to legals over night, and a whole new wave of immigrants would be flowing across the border.

This is what Obama said this week:

President Obama said this week that his health care plan won’t cover illegal immigrants, but argued that’s all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage.

He also staked out a position that anyone in the country legally should be covered – a major break with the 1996 welfare reform bill, which limited most federal public assistance programs only to citizens and longtime immigrants.

“Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don’t simply believe we can simply ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken,” Mr. Obama said Wednesday evening in a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. “That’s why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else.

Mr. Obama added, “If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all.”

So, what did I tell you above, Obama just figures the issue of whether health care reform covers illegals or not will be moot once he gets amnesty.

However, my question still remains, what is to stop new illegals and phony asylum seekers from coming across the border the very next day and creating a new wave of immigrants looking to become legal.

For a list of Obama Administration Amnesty supporters go here.

CIS: Illegal aliens would be covered under HR 3200

Update September 11th:   Rep Joe Wilson’s outburst calling Obama a liar on this issue the other night has served a very useful purpose, the media must now admit that what CIS says here is true.  Illegal aliens will receive health care benefits, from Gateway Pundit, here.

HR 3200 is the House version of Obama’s health care reform, and although Obama claims illegal aliens will not be covered, this report from the Center for Immigration Studies disputes that claim.

CIS:

Based on our analysis of Census Bureau data, we estimate that there are 6.6 million uninsured illegal immigrants in the United States who could be covered by the new health care reform bill (HR 3200). Even though HR 3200 states that illegal immigrants are not eligible for the proposed taxpayer-funded affordable premium credits, there is nothing in the bill to enforce this. An amendment was defeated in committee that would have required the use of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, used by almost all other means-tested programs of this kind.

Of course, the Administration is also figuring on getting amnesty through this coming year and all this would be moot—illegals would be magically transformed to legals over night, and a whole new wave of immigrants would be flowing across the border.

The Obama Administration began gathering its amnesty lobbying forces last month here.  Check out the list, it’s an amazing array of interest groups, churches, unions, and big business.

Sierra Club sounds downright gleeful about ‘global warming refugees’

Last night I spent some time in a sort of stream of consciousness exercise that took me from the death of  Ted Kennedy (a wealthy man who liked to take your money and give it to the poor, but wasn’t interested in distributing his money directly to the poor immigrant), to the assasination of his brother by Jordanian immigrant Sirhan Sirhan, to Bill Ayers and Jeff Jones dedicating their Weatherunderground screed to Sirhan Sirhan (among others), to Jeff Jones and the Apollo Alliance funded by the Tides Foundation, to the Apollo Alliance writing the stimulus bill to help redistribute your wealth to their pet projects, to the SEIU and its connections to Apollo and Geroge Soros (who likes to create interlocking groups to fool the public), to supposed environmental organizations like the Sierra Club and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC and its heiress president) that sit on the Apollo Alliance board, and the stream goes on.

Eventually I will tell you all those connections and how refugees and immigrants play into the whole tangled web to “change” America—really to bring down America as we know it.

This morning I just want to tell you about how the Sierra Club is in bed with unions and how they justify their open borders position and their union supporting position to members questioning what the heck they are doing.

Here is a link to a column by “Mr. Green” at Sierra magazine.  Note the first question from a reader on June 9 was about the Sierra Club in bed with unions (btw Sierra Club President, Carl Pope sits on the Apollo Alliance Board with the likes of SEIU, which I have previously told you is helping organize Somalis to disrupt work places).

Then in March another reader asks Mr. Green this question:

Hey Mr. Green,

Why does the Sierra Club refuse to take a stand on illegal migration and historically high legal immigration? The sheer number of immigrants is having a negative effect on the environment and the amount of resources consumed, not to mention the social costs. Why is the Club being politically correct when there is a clear relationship between population and environmental balance? –Michael in Ashburn, Virginia

Here is Mr. Green’s answer (non-answer!) where he tries to deflect the members attention by suggesting the member was a bad anti-immigrant person and then goes on to sound like he is actually pleased about the latest fad of the refugee industry—global warming refugees!

While some of my environmentally minded readers dread any reduction in procreation [Edit:  LOL! the Sierra Club is all about telling white people to stop having babies but I can’t wait to see them tell African immigrants, like the Somalis, to stop having 6 kids and more], which would also reduce the number of immigrants, others, like you, want to shut the immigrants out. I just hope you’re not in favor of that environmentally destructive boondoggle of a fence they’re building on our border with Mexico.

The simplest answer to your question about the Sierra Club’s immigration policy is that the Club’s members voted overwhelmingly some time ago to remain neutral on this issue. [Edit: It is a very long story about how the Sierra Club took millions of dollars in donations to shut them up on immigration, ant that is why Mr. Green isn’t telling this reader the full story.]  Many are convinced that it is more helpful in the long run to work to help change the sinister circumstances that drive so many people to immigrate, including poverty, lack of education, lack of women’s rights, and lack of family-planning options.

A less-known driver of immigration is environmental devastation, which has produced millions of refugees; they now number more than 10 million per year. By the year 2000, there were 25 million such refugees, actually higher than the number of people who had fled for political reasons. Among the environmentally related causes of displacement are floods, landslides, water shortages, and desertification caused by deforestation and overcultivation, not to mention climate change and the more intense devastation caused by the more intense storms brought on by global warming.

While most Americans have gone about their lives since the late 1960’s finding work, buying a home, raising a family and just taking care of life, a cabal of radical Leftists has been quietly putting together a new government structure that aims to wipe out borders, redistribute wealth, take large businesses (willingly it seems) under government control and to be run by a group of Ivy League so-called intellectuals who are really a bunch of  rich elitist snobs.

They’ve created a goliath!  They’ve got the Religious Left,  the mainstream media, environmental groups, open borders groups, powerful unions, businesses like Wal-mart and Microsoft, ethnic advocacy groups and the list goes on—arrayed against the so-called “mob” attending town halls and tea parties.  Have faith, just as David did, the little guy can still win in the end.
