Obama could use supposedly temporary 'humanitarian' parole to get more Syrians admitted to US

I expect this dreadful news is because the UN/US State Department (and the resettlement contractors) are hopping mad at the slow screening process for those who have been submitted for consideration as permanent refugees.  I see parole as a way around serious security screening.
By the way, the percentage of Syrians entering as refugees (so far) still stands at about 94% Muslim for those being placed all over the country.  We are not saving the Christians in any big way!

Senator Dianne Feinstein
As a leading member of the Jihad Caucus, Senator Dianne Feinstein is happy to bring California more immigrants—Syrian Muslims this time!

Here is the latest news about possible parole for Syrians, from Breitbart (hat tip: Rosemary):

The Obama administration says it may reconsider the use of parole for certain Syrian nationals in addition to its Syrian refugee resettlement effort.

In written responses to Senate Judiciary Immigration and the National Interest Subcommittee Republicans obtained by Breitbart News, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services reveal that the U.S.’s effort to resettle thousands of Syrian refugees might not be the only process it will use to bring displaced Syrians to the U.S.

“At the request of more than 70 members of Congress in 2013, USCIS considered whether to establish a parole program for Syrians in Syria but decided that establishing such a program was not warranted. However, as the situation continues to evolve and USCIS continues to engage with stakeholders, USCIS may reconsider the use of parole for certain Syrian nationals,” USCIS wrote in its response to the subcommittee’s question probing whether USCIS is considering a parole program for Syrians.

The State Department has estimated that by the end of FY 2015 the U.S. will have admitted between 1,000-2,000 Syrian refugees. Parole for Syrians, if used, would supplement the refugee resettlement effort.

Parole is an immigration benefit that is intended to be imparted on a case-by-case basis for “urgent humanitarian reasons” or “significant public benefit” for those foreigners who would otherwise be ineligible for entry. It is intended to be a temporary admission, and parolees are expected to depart the U.S. once the reasons for their parole have ended.

More here….
Remember readers that the contractors started out pushing for 12,000-15,000 for this year, and now they and the Jihad Caucus in the Senate would like to see 65,000 as Obama’s parting gift to America.

So where are we?

Fiscal year 2015 ends in just short of 8 weeks (on September 30th) and in the calendar year of 2015 we have admitted 878.  Since the first of January 2012 (the year I arbitrarily chose as the beginning of the present Syrian conflict) we have admitted 1,213 Syrian refugees.   (See Refugee Processing Center data base, here)
Of those, 1,138 practice some form of Islam giving Muslims a 94% share of the total Syrians admitted so far.  I don’t expect that percentage to change much as long as we are taking the refugees chosen for us from UN camps.
Here are the top ten states receiving mostly Muslim Syrians so far as of August 1, 2015 (go here for our previous accounting). Red number is the number resettled as of the beginning of July.

Texas (146)    (137)

California (139)    (133)

Illinois (106)   (93)

Michigan (81)   (59)

Arizona (79)    (73)

Florida (70)    (60)

Pennsylvania (65)   (65)

New Jersey (58)   (39)

Massachusetts (47)   (44)

Tied for tenth place:

Kentucky (42)   (not recorded because not in the top ten in July)

North Carolina (42)   (42)

Go here to see the 14 Senators that comprise the Jihad Caucus pushing Obama to admit more Syrians.

I really think it would be only fair if all the Syrians were sent to the home states of the fourteen, don’t you?
However, ten of the 14 are not even getting Syrians in any large numbers, but four are getting their wish and their states are in the top ten:
Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)  Yippee I’m getting Syrian Muslims!
Dick Durban (D-IL) The leader of the pack is getting his share! Dropping them in Chicago because diversity will bring strength to that city!
Ed Markey (D-MA) I wonder how many will go to Markey’s home town.
Robert Menendez (D-NJ) The guy worried about the Iranians will have some Syrian Muslims in his home state.

Bhutanese refugees in Ohio need more costly mental health care due to high suicide rate

There is nothing new in this story from the The Columbus Dispatch.  We have reported ad nauseum about the high suicide rate among Bhutanese (really Nepali) refugees first admitted during the Bush Administration.  Even before Bush’s Asst. Secretary of State for Population Refugees and Migration, Ellen Sauerbrey, gave the go-ahead to resettle 60,000 from UN camps (the UN wanted to close the camps so we said sure! and now we are up to over 80,000 Bhutanese scattered across America) we learned that the Bhutanese really preferred to live in their own culture in their part of the world.

The “Bhutanese” are really Nepali people who had lived in Bhutan. Bhutan expelled them and Nepal didn’t want them back. So, why was it in our national interest to bring over 80,000 to America? It was a Bush Administration decision. Did the Republicans want to import more cheap labor?

See our huge archive on the Bhutanese (mostly Hindu) migration to America by clicking here.   It goes back nearly eight years to a time when the Bhutanese did not want to be “scattered to the four winds.”
For all of you contemplating ‘welcoming’ refugees to your towns and cities, remember that health care/mental health care costs will be borne by state and local taxpayers.
From The Columbus Dispatch  (hat tip: Julie).  What is going on in Ohio that there is so much immigration and refugee news coming out of the state (see our Ohio archive)?  A suspicious person might think that Ohio was somehow being targeted for colonization!

So they recently surveyed 200 members of the Nepali-speaking Hindu minority who had fled the Himalayan mountain kingdom of Bhutan a quarter-century ago during an ethnic cleansing led by the Buddhist elite.

What they discovered shocked them.

Bhutanese refugees in central Ohio are twice as likely to report thinking about suicide as are those elsewhere in the U.S. They have high rates of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress and report that they smoke and use alcohol more frequently than other Bhutanese refugees.
“It’s a serious wake-up call,” said Surendra Bir Adhikari, an administrator for the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services who led the research project.

[….]

Between October 2008 and September 2014, 5,654 Bhutanese were resettled in Ohio, including 1,738 in Franklin County. The total population is larger because of the family members and others who have arrived in the state from other parts of the U.S.

Local leaders of the Bhutanese community estimate the total population at close to 20,000, but state officials think it is lower. In 2012, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that the suicide rate among Bhutanese refugees resettled in America was 20.3 per 100,000 people. That’s nearly twice the rate among the general U.S. population and higher than the global suicide rate of 16.9 percent.

No jobs and yet we keep the refugee flow coming!  Look at the Ohio numbers on this map!

Besides facing language and religious barriers, refugees worry about loved ones and friends left behind. And there’s often a disconnect between their idyllic views of life in America and the difficulties they encounter finding jobs that pay well.

[….]

Much more needs to be done to address the social isolation, substance abuse and trauma experienced by refugees and immigrants, local and state officials say.

They want “mental-health first-aid training” offered to help identify, understand and respond to signs of addiction and mental illnesses in refugees. They’d like to see more health-care systems provide both medical and mental-health services under one roof to lessen the stigma.

There is more, continue reading here.

Let's have a look at Ohio!

On Monday I’ll be talking to a group in Ohio and so for those folks I’ve gathered some information on a state that seems to be newly targeted by Obama’s friends at Welcoming America.  I first told you about that here in July 2013, and again here yesterday.

Top resettlement cities are Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo and Akron.

Ohio numbers….

Ohio has been receiving over 2,000 refugees a year since 2012, and all told in the last ten years it received 21,230.  (See data base here.)  I was surprised to find it that high.  For comparison Delaware hardly gets any (zero in 2014) and Texas is getting over 7,000 a year.
In fiscal year 2014, Ohio received the 7th highest number of refugees in the country.
The Obama Administration and the politically Far Left federal resettlement contractors probably recognize the electoral value of Ohio, so they want to make sure it becomes a reliably Democrat-voting state.
The states higher on the 2014 list than Ohio (2,815) in the last fiscal year are in descending order:  Texas, California, New York, Michigan, Florida and Arizona.
In the ten year analysis, the Bhutanese (6,607) saw the highest number of their ethnic group settled in Ohio followed by Somalis (5,611). Iraqis were next with 2,617.  Remember though that especially with the Somalis, Ohio likely saw the Somali number increase more rapidly as secondary migrants (resettled elsewhere in the US) went to mostly Columbus to join their fellow Somalis to establish a large Somali enclave there. The secondary migrants are not reflected in that 5,611 number.
The years with the highest number of Somalis resettled were 2005 and 2006 (Bush years!).
Most Somalis were resettled in Columbus (over 4,700 of the over 5,000) with Cleveland getting 322 directly resettled there from Africa.  But, interestingly 21 other towns and cities got Somalis, albeit in smaller numbers.
Remember the Columbus subsidized housing riot in 2012!  How would you like to see this in your home town?

The resettlement contractors and cities they are colonizing…

For new readers there are nine major federal contractors.  Five of the nine dominate Ohio.  Here is a handy list to find their contact information. (The ORR list is not just for Ohio, but for the whole country.)

US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants works in Akron, Cleveland

US Conference of Catholic Bishops works in Cleveland, Cincinatti and Dayton

Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society works in Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo

Church World Service is in Columbus

World Relief is in Columbus

Go here for all of the posts we have written on Ohio over the years.  They had a recent terrorist arrest case there (Somali of course!).
And be sure to see my previous post on employment outcomes for refugees.  Ohio’s employment numbers are pretty abysmal!

Fiscal Year 2014 Refugee Employment Entered Rates: These rates stink!

Check out this map I came across today in my research.  It is at the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) website and represents the caseload of refugees getting help from federal programs to find employment in each state.  You pay for this! Now look at the employment rates!
Holy cow!  Some of these are really low.  So much for the idea that refugees quickly become self-sufficient!
If I were ORR I would be embarrassed to publish this information!
If I’m reading this correctly, why are we sending so many refugees to Texas (just as one example) when only 46% are finding employment. And there are states with even much lower rates than that. Geez, look at Florida!

Kind of makes you wonder if indeed the Cloward-Piven strategy (use the poor to bring on the revolution) is alive and well under Obama!

Update: US Syrian refugee resettlement numbers pass the 1,000 mark, disbursed to 36 states, 94% are Muslims

Using US State Department data beginning early in the Syrian conflict (January 2012) and right up until yesterday (July 8, 2015) here is where we stand.
Remember that the UN High Commissioner for Refugees has over 2,000 in a pipeline for us for before the end of the fiscal year (September 30, 2015), but the unsatisfied federal contractors wanting more paying clients to resettle and the Senate Jihad Caucus want the US to take in and distribute 65,000 before Obama leaves office.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, one of 14 members of the Senate Jihad Caucus which wrote to Barack Obama asking him to bring in 65,000 mostly Muslim Syrian refugees by the time Obama leaves office. I wonder do union workers understand that these refugees will be competing for their jobs? So far, Ohio has resettled 27 Syrians.

I see from my previous update in late May that the percentage of Muslims chosen for us by the UNHCR has now risen from 92% to 94%!
And, this was a big surprise—the total number of Christians (42) and Catholics(1) admitted has not increased in the last 6 and 1/2 weeks.  Most of the increase is in the Sunni Muslim numbers.   And, for those who asked during my briefing yesterday, there is still only 1 Yazidi admitted.
So here is what we know:

The total number of Syrians admitted as refugees since January 1, 2012 is 1,098.

Of those,  973 are Sunni Muslims, 8 Shiites and 49 who characterize themselves as simply “Moslem”.

There were, as mentioned above 42 Christians, 1 Catholic and 1 Yazidi and a few other religious groups (or no religion) as well.

So, looks like the average number is now 94% Muslim.

And here are the Top Ten states that “welcomed” Syrians.  36 states got at least 1 Syrian.
You can expect this trend to continue.  The states that changed their ranking the most in the last 6 weeks were Massachusetts which was not in the top ten at all and Florida which was 9th and has moved up to 6th place as of yesterday.

1)  Texas (137)  Texas got 12% of the Syrians.  Imagine if the US brings in 65,000. 12% to Texas would be 7,800! Guess they would need a lot of HUD housing!

2)  California (133)

3)  Illinois (93)

4)  Arizona (73)

5)  Pennsylvania (65)

6)  Florida (60)

7)  Michigan (59)

8)  Massachusetts (44)

9)  North Carolina (42)

10)  New Jersey (39)

One final thing.  I had previously speculated that since Minnesota was in extreme refugee overload that maybe the US State Department wouldn’t send any Syrians to Minnesota, but I see I was wrong.  They recently sent 7 to Rochester, MN.
