Does anyone other than me find it ironic that Australia has gone ballistic(as they should) over one of their upstanding citizens being shot to death in Minneapolis by a Somali police officer (former refugee), yet the Australian government wants to send us even more Somali ‘refugees’ that they have themselves rejected?
Immigration Minister Peter Dutton fully expects Trump to take their rejected boat people in the new fiscal year. You gotta see what Dutton says about illiterate ‘refugees’ here: http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/671501/Minister-migrants-illiterate-Peter-Dutton-Immigration-Minister-australia
As I have been trying to hammer-home to readers, don’t get bogged down in the legal minutiaregarding the 120-day moratorium and the back and forth between the rogue Hawaiian judge (on behalf of refugee contractors and their ilk) and the Supreme Court (that has gone way beyond its constitutional authority on refugees).
What is important is what President Donald Trump DETERMINES in September is the right number and the right ethnic groups to ‘welcome’ to the US in fiscal year 2018 (begins October 1, 2017).
By law, in September, the President sends his ‘determination’ for FY18 to The Hill for CONSULTATION.
If this year is like the previous 35 years, Congress will rubber stamp what the President sends (except LOL! they won’t rubber stamp zero!).
See below that the Australian government is now counting on a return to normal for the UN/US Refugee Admissions Program(USRAP) for October. They fully expect Trump to continue with the “dumb deal” Obama made in the waning weeks of his presidency and put these Australian rejects in his determination letter and report to Congress.
We expect the President to stick with his campaign promises and get this monster under control. This Executive Order mess isn’t what we had in mind when we voted for Donald Trump, and he can’t possibly think this short (chaotic) hiatus will solve any longstanding problems with the USRAP.
Australia disappointed by delay in US refugee resettlement
I have to laugh! In the first paragraph we are reminded by AP that these are Australia’s rejects!
AP at ABC News (emphasis is mine):
MANUS ISLAND DETENTION CENTRE: If Donald Trump goes through with the “dumb deal” these men from mostly Muslim countries will be placed (without your knowledge) in a town near you just to save the political neck of the present Australian government.
Australia was disappointed that hundreds of its rejected refugees would not begin resettling in the United States this month under a deal that predates President Donald Trump’s administration, an official said on Friday.
President Barack Obama’s administration agreed to accept up to 1,250 refugees among hundreds of asylum seekers — mostly from Iran, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka*** — who have been languishing for up to four yearsin immigration camps on the impoverished Pacific island nations of Papua New Guinea and Nauru.
Immigration and Border Protection Minister Peter Dutton said Australia wanted the refugees to start moving in July, but the United States had already filled its 50,000 refugee quota for the current fiscal year.
“We’re disappointed that they haven’t been able to move this month, which was my hope, but their new program year starts on Oct. 1, and we’re working with both the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security to ensure that we can get people off as quickly as possible,” Dutton told reporters.
[….]
Dutton said he was determined to close the men-only camp on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea by the end of October. [Men-only camp for up four years! And they will be free to roam in Your Town, USA!—ed]
Asylum seekers on Manus who were rejected by the United States would be transferred to Nauru, who will remain open indefinitely.
Rarely mentioned is the fact that 1,900 illegal aliens have been awarded a settlement which amounts to about $35,000 per head.
Australia last month reached a settlement of 90 million Australian dollars ($68 million) with more than 1,900 asylum seekers who sued over their treatment on Manus.
See my growing archive on the ‘Australia deal’ by clicking here. If you haven’t done it, or even if you have, write to the White House and tell the President what he should do with the US Refugee Admissions Program in FY18.
***See here where we were told that most of the wannabe US citizens housed in detention on Manus and Nauru are from Somali, Afghanistan and Sudan.
As I pointed out in my previous post, the open borders activists and the contractors*** are looking ahead to October when they think the UN/US Refugee Admissions Program will be back and moving full steam ahead. This newsfrom Charleston, WV confirms one of two things—-either the contractors know something we don’t know, or they are setting up a media opportunity to bash the Trump Administration for dashing their hopes (again) should the Trump team keep the refugee flow low (or even halt it altogether!) come September. These two Senators could stop the placement of mostly Muslim refugees in Charleston, WV by the new Episcopal resettlement agency IF THEY WANTED TO. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (left) and Joe Manchin!
Before I give you this news from an Episcopal Migration Ministries(99.5% funded by taxpayers!) wannabe subcontractor in the capitol city of West Virginia, I need to once again remind readers (and tell new readers) about the process. Scoping meeting….
Normally in May of each year there is a “scoping meeting” held by the US State Department to seek input from the public about the ‘size and scope’ of the refugee admissions program for the coming fiscal year. They pretend it is to get public input, but it is mostly an appeal to the contractors to send in their wish lists.
I don’t have time to go over the whole history of our involvement with these phony ‘hearings,’ but suffice it to say, they do not want to hear from the general public. In fact, I don’t think there was even a “scoping meeting” at all this year. R & P Abstracts….
Along about May, all of the contractors’ subcontractor offices go to work on their R & P Abstracts. These documents, discussed many times on these pages, are wish lists of sorts. The subcontractor will decide how many refugees a community has the capacity to take, from where in the world they will come from, and what amenities your town has for them—housing, jobs, health care, schools etc.
The best Abstract I ever saw was for Reno, Nevada, see here.
Big no-no! Do not read RRW!
And, surprise (not!), a couple of years ago, World Reliefactually sent a letter to its subcontractors alerting them to the fact that I told listeners on a Minnesota radio show to “get your abstracts.” The leadership at WR told it’s subcontractors (they call them “affiliates”) to not give the abstracts out when people call. Oh, and this is funny, they told their staff to not read RRW! The leadership would screen my writing and inform the underlings if they needed to know about something we said at RRW! As of July 3, 2017, the US State Department has an up-to-date affiliates list, go here, find an office near you (even within a hundred miles), call them and ask for the FY18 Abstract they have prepared for the US State Department! REPUBLICAN Rep. Alex Mooney represents Charleston and by his silence indicates support of Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis being placed by a federal contractor in his district. Have fun! Call Mooney’s office and ask him to get the R & P Abstract for FY18, for you. Tell him you want the whole document including the descriptions of where the refugees will work, what amenities are available and what organizations (letters of support) are behind the plan.
Be prepared to be told such a document doesn’t exist (one of their tricks) and for those who admit there is such a plan for your town, they will tell you that you can’t have it anyway! But, it is a good exercise for you, to be told that THEY have plans for your community that YOU can’t see! Presidential Determination…..
The R & P Abstracts are the basis for making the “determination” to be announced in September about how many refugees the Trump Administration is going to ‘welcome’ to America for FY2018 which begins on October 1, 2017. The process appears to be going forward just like any other year (not surprising since Trump has no people in the DOS refugee office).
The President sends his ‘determination’ (which includes how much of your money he wants Congress to appropriate) to The Hill for “consultation.” Consultation traditionally involves rubber stamping whatever the President wants. The majority of the power for refugee resettlement is vested in the President.
Now that I have gone way too long (I hope you are still reading!), here (below) is a bit of the Charleston Gazette-Mailstory that would indicate that the US State Department is welcoming in the abstracts just like in a normal year and this wannabe resettlement agency is acting like it is a done deal and that Charleston will be getting 85 refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Why this particular Episcopal office wants only these particular (mostly Muslim) ethnic groups is a puzzle. What! No impoverished Africans? No Somalis, no Christians from the DR Congo? Hmmm! It is by no means a done deal! But, by making it sound like it is, if they don’t get their hypothetical refugees, at least they can blame Trump in the end.
(There is a Catholic resettlement agency already working in Charleston, this would be a new competitor as the contractors ‘bid for bodies.’) Charleston Gazette-Mail:
A Charleston-based refugee resettlement office will assist in placing 85 refugees in the area during the Oct. 2017- Sept. 2018 fiscal year, according to the director of the group organizing the effort.
Lynn Clarke, chief advocate for refugees in Charleston. https://www.oxfamamerica.org/explore/stories/unfazed-by-trumps-ban-west-virginians-are-determined-to-welcome-refugees/
The West Virginia Interfaith Refugee Ministry, a group that has been working to bring refugees to West Virginia, plans to open the office of a refugee resettlement agency affiliate on the third floor of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charleston on Aug. 1, according to Lynn Clarke, director of the group.
Antigone Mehani, who previously served as the employment services manager at another resettlement agency in Louisville, Kentucky, also begins Aug. 1. Clarke anticipates Mehani will hire one part-time employee. The agency is an affiliate of Episcopal Migration Ministries, one of nine national refugee resettlement agencies that work with the federal government and local groups to place refugees. [We learned herethat EMM is closing offices elsewhere, so why open a new and controversial office in Charleston?—ed]
Episcopal Migration Ministries has about 30 offices nationwide. In the ministry’s “resettlement communities,” local organizers assist refugees with finding health care and work, translation and other services.
Mehani will be an employee of the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia, which will assist with administrative tasks. [One important criticism of EMM is that it keeps no separate accounting available to the public because its federal money flows directly to the church, come on Congress, where are you?—ed]
The group has raised about $100,000 in pledges, donations and grants, according to Clarke.
The refugees — people who have had to flee their homes because of war, persecution or other violence — will likely come from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Clarke said half will be children.
[….]
Clarke said the refugees likely won’t have ties to the region, so they won’t begin arriving until the ban is no longer in effect. She anticipates arrivals in November.
“I always believed this would happen for Charleston,” she said. “There’s always been concern that things would change, but I don’t remember ever thinking that this office wouldn’t open.”
There is more, continue reading here.
(This “new” office of EMM is not listed on the recent updateof State Department subcontractors.)
Again, as I said in my previous post, you must focus your energy on getting the Trump Administration to come in with a zero ‘determination’ in September for FY18. It is my view that if they go back to some normal number—like 50,000—there will never be any incentive to EVER reform the UN/US Refugee Admissions Program!
I have written on many previous occasions about the controversy in Charleston, WV and visited there on my 6,000 mile tour of refugee hot spots last summer. ***Federal contractors/middlemen/lobbyists/community organizerspaid by you to place refugees in your towns and cities. At this minute they are sending ‘abstracts’to Washington which are their personal wish lists and plans for who will be ‘welcomed’ to your towns.
Because their income is largely dependent on taxpayer dollars based on the number of refugees admitted to the US, the only way for real reform of how the US admits refugees is to remove the contractors from the process. I have ideas on how to do that, but no one in Congress every asks!
….your tax dollars that is.
They can’t stay afloat on private charitable giving which says to me that there aren’t enough citizens willing to give their OWN money, or wealthy donors, who want more refugees in America!
“When you take out the underpinning that is the federal government support . . . the program is hamstrung.”
Angela Bovill
Here is the story from theBoston Globeyesterday!
It has been like pulling teeth over the years to get the contractors*** to admit that they are largely funded out of the federal, and sometimes state treasuries. We should thank Donald Trump’s slowdown for forcing them to admit this. (They have had years slower than 50,000, but this year they can blame it on Trump!)
As refugee arrivals dwindle, resettlement agencies face cuts
Here are a few snips from further down in the piece:
The organizations receive an initial sum of $950 per refugee from the federal government to support operations, plus grants to finance specific services. [Actually some contractors keep more than $950. But rarely will you see mention of the additional grants!–ed]
Angela Bovill of Ascentria (formerly Lutheran Social Services New England). Don’t ask me why some LSS branches have changed their names, dumping the word Lutheran, in recent years.
Directors across the state said that this funding is critical to sustaining their programs.
“Private support does not make up for federal support,” said Angela Bovill, Ascentria Care Alliance’s chief executive. “When you take out the underpinning that is the federal government support . . . the program is hamstrung.”
With private dollars unable to fill budget holes, some directors have been left with no choice but to lay off staff, they said.
Government funds make up three-fourths of the International Institute of New England’s $1.27 million resettlement budget, and CEO Jeffrey Thielman said he has cut at least four full-time positions to offset a 21 percent reduction in funding.
Ascentria, which receives all of its core resettlement budget from the government, eliminated 17 positions in Massachusetts after a $611,000 shortfall.
More here.
The International Institute of New England is an USCRI subcontractor and Ascentria is a Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services sub office.
In 2013, Ms. Bovill made the astounding admission that refugee resettlement is a business! See here.
Hey, at least she is honest!—a federally-funded business (whatever that is!).
Did you know that I have an entire category called “Taxpayer goodies?” I just checked and see this will be post number 1,488 in the category! ***Federal contractors/middlemen/lobbyists/community organizerspaid by you to place refugees in your towns and cities.
Because their income is largely dependent on taxpayer dollars based on the number of refugees admitted to the US, the only way for real reform of how the US admits refugees is to remove the contractors from the process. I have ideas on how to do that, but no one in Congress every asks!
LOL! No of course they didn’t say it that way, but that is what they mean. Instead, once again, it is about the poor refugees left in the lurch in some third world hell hole because of that meany Donald J. Trump. This is a broken record alert, but I plan to continue to pound the issue of payment to contractors being tied to the number of refugees admitted, so there is never a reasonable discussion about any slowdown or reform of the UN/US Refugee Admissions Program. If they were paying for their Christian ‘charity’ out of the pockets of good and kind-hearted parishioners, I would have nothing to say. But, until the USCCB admits to the media that they receive 97% of their annual migration fund budget (about $83 million in 2014) from taxpayers, I will be a broken record on the issue.
It was only six days ago I did a new accounting report for the nine federal refugee contractors*** quasi-government agencies that monopolize all resettlement in the US. Both the Bishops and the Lutheran contractor are 96-97% funded by US taxpayers!
You will never know that by reading this news. Indeed, Charity Navigator, a service that rates charities to help you decide if you want to give, said this about LIRS (they would have said the same about the USCCB except that outfit doesn’t file a Form 990, that we can find).
This organization is not eligible to be rated by Charity Navigator because, as a service for individual givers, we only rate organizations that depend on support from individual contributors and foundations. Organizations such as this, that get most of their revenue from the government or from program services, are therefore not eligible to be rated.
In this story from Crux(a Catholic publication) we learn that Catholics and Lutherans are #1 and #2 in the number of refugees they drop off in American towns and cities.
Here is Crux(lamentations):
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Amid a federal judge ordering the government to broaden the exemptions to the immigration travel ban partially upheld by the Supreme Court, Catholic and Lutheran leaders lamented that the immigration cap had been reached for refugees without such exemptions for the 2017 fiscal year.
The federal government suspended travel July 12 for refugee immigrants without close family connections after confirming that 50,000 refugees – the limit imposed by President Donald Trump in a March 6 executive order – had arrived on U.S. soil.
“We remain deeply troubled by the human consequences of the revised executive order on refugee admissions and the travel ban,” said Bishop Joe S. Vasquez of Austin, Texas, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Committee on Migration, in a July 13 statement.
“Resettling only 50,000 refugees a year, down from 110,000, does not reflect the need, our compassion, and our capacity as a nation,” Vasquez added. “We have the ability to continue to assist the most vulnerable among us without sacrificing our values as Americans or the safety and security of our nation.” [Be sure to see my post on the ceilings going back 30 years, here. Note that Obama got no where near 110,000 until he was virtually walking out the door, now that has become the standard measure!—ed]
“The pause on resettlement and restrictions on the number of persons who can enter our country as refugees will have an immediate effect on our ability to conduct the lifesaving work of providing safety and protection,” said a July 12 statement by Kay Bellor, vice president for programs of Lutheran Immigrant and Refugee Service, which is second only to the U.S. bishops’ Migration and Refugee Services in the number of refugees it helps resettle in the United States. [Yes, it will have an immediate effect because your organization raised virtually NO PRIVATE MONEY!—ed]

[….]
“As Bishop Vasquez said, it’s very sad, deeply troubling,” MRS executive director William Canny told Catholic News Service July 14.
Pushing for 75,000 refugees in FY18!
At least they have tempered the demand for 200,000 they made of Obama for his last year. If Trump admits 75,000 he will be about 10,000 above the average admissions for the last ten years(which included their dear leader’s years).
Crux continues….
“What we’re advocating for is 75,000” refugees to come into the United States during fiscal 2018, Canny told CNS.“We understand that the administration has security concerns. The administration made some initiative to reduce the number of refugees coming into the country. We don’t agree with it, so at a minimum, we think we should be bringing in 75,000.”
Bellor agreed with the 75,000 figure, noting the number is “less than the need.” Citing United Nations World Refugee Day figures, “the numbers are definitely not shrinking,” she said. “The number of people on the move is 66 million.”
LOL! 75,000 must be the point where they can keep their budgets plenty full with your money!
There is more at Crux, go here to read it all. Come on all of you (not just the Lutherans and the Catholics), admit that your ‘charitable’ work with refugees could not happen without a huge infusion of more than a half a billion $ a year in federal funding.
And, come on mainstream media, it is time you told the truth!
The story at World Net Daily yesterday gave me an opportunity to vent about one of my major pet peeves. And, that is that economic studies being scattered like rabbit turds around the media landscape that conclude that refugees bring economic prosperity wherever they are dropped never include the true cost of medical care (like MN is experiencing right now), the true cost of the criminal justice system, or the true cost to the economy of remittances (money sent ‘home’ by refugees) that is lost to the US economy.
But, oh well, it is all good for Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey that we deposit refugees throughout America—right Heritage Foundation! Here is the newsand some comments by me:
Minnesota pays out millions every year in welfare for refugees, but there are secondary costs that never get tabulated.
‘Assimilating’ in Minnesota. Somali men and women do not sit together! https://refugeeresettlementwatch.org/2014/09/07/wnd-more-on-minnesota-somalis-welfare-and-jihad/
In fiscal 2017, which ended last last week, the state spent $1.5 million to combat three infectious disease outbreaks — including the largest measles outbreak in 30 years, which swept through in the Somali refugee community. And health officials notified legislative leaders this week that they want to tap a special public-health fund to offset additional costs.
Dr. Ed Ehlinger, Minnesota Health commissioner, told the Star-Tribune his department will need another $600,000 for fiscal 2018 to help control the spread of measles, drug-resistant tuberculosis and syphilis.
The state has had 78 confirmed cases of measles this year, in an outbreak that began in March. Of those 78 cases, 64 have been in the Somali refugee community.

Ann Corcoran, an expert on the resettlement industry who blogs at Refugee Resettlement Watch, said the industry is fond of churning out “bogus economic studies” that falsely inflate the value of refugees to U.S. communities.
[….]
“I am sick and tired of hearing reports on the economic benefits of the refugees that they pay and start businesses and create jobs, and in those studies they never discuss the true cost of health care, or the true cost to the criminal justice system from the numerous criminal trials, incarcerations, etc.,” Corcoran told WND. “Imagine what it costs to put refugees like Fazliddin Kurbanov away for life.”
[….]
“Have you ever seen a study on the cost of even short-term incarceration? It’s never in those bogus economic studies,” Corcoran said. “And the other thing that is never in there is the remittances that are gone from our economy. And you can bet your bottom dollar it’s not just wage earnings they’re sending back home. They’re sending welfare money back home, too. So you never see a net inflow or outflow of money from our economy in these phony economic studies touting how much these refugees boost our economy.”

And, as someone more astute than I pointed out recently: If refugees bring economic prosperity, why isn’t every country in the world begging for more?
