Georgetown University pushes Sharia

Saudi money at American universities is part of the silent jihad.  The Saudis have funded Middle Eastern and Muslim-oriented centers on campuses all over the country. One influential center is at Georgetown University, where it is doing its part to introduce Sharia law into the United States. Cinnamon Stillwell reports at FrontPage:

Georgetown University’s Prince Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding (ACMSU) will be hosting a conference on October 23 that asks the loaded question:Is There a Role for Shari’ah in Modern States?

The Saudi-funded ACMSU and its founding director, John Esposito, one of the foremost apologists for radical Islam in the academic field of Middle East studies, have certainly been doing their bit to make the idea more palatable.

The Saudi prince for whom ACMSU was named has been pumping millions of dollars into Middle East studies at Georgetown, Harvard, UC Berkeley, and beyond, and as the case of Esposito demonstrates, it magnifies the voices of scholars with a decidedly uncritical bent. As a result, ACMSU analysis regarding Sharia (or Islamic) law tends to focus not on its injustices (amputation, stoning, hanging, honor killing, punishment for blasphemy, execution of apostates, persecution of non-Muslims, sanctioned wife-beating, female genital mutilation, and so on), but rather on repackaging it in ways that will appeal to Western sensibilities. The concept of a more “moderate” version of Sharia law that is compatible with democracy is at the forefront of this effort.

Apparently one way the Saudis advance the stealth jihad is to use non-Muslims as apologists for their goals. At least I assume Esposito isn’t Muslim. Stillwell provides a lot of information on Esposito, including this:

Who Speaks for Islam? What a Billion Muslims Really Think, a book co-authored by Esposito and executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies Dalia Mogahed, has been widely criticized for its blatant inaccuracies and attempts to whitewash anti-Western and extremist sentiment in the Muslim world. Accordingly, Sharia law is framed in a non-threatening fashion.

The keynote speaker is a Harvard professor and apologist for Sharia, Noah Feldman. (Why are there so many Jews supporting radical Islam?)

In fact, for most of its history, Islamic law offered the most liberal and humane legal principles available anywhere in the world. Today, when we invoke the harsh punishments prescribed by Shariah for a handful of offenses, we rarely acknowledge the high standards of proof necessary for their implementation.

Stillwell quotes Melanie Phillips on how this same process is moving along in Britain (with far greater success):

Melanie Phillips, writing for National Review Online, notes the role of Saudi funding and Middle East studies in furthering this process:

Even thought itself is being Islamized, with academic objectivity in the teaching of Islam and Middle East studies set aside in favour of indoctrination and propaganda. An as-yet-unpublished report by Prof. Anthony Glees says that extremist ideas are being spread by Islamic study centers linked to British universities and backed by multi-million-pound donations from Saudi Arabia and Muslim organizations. Professor Glees says, ‘Britain’s universities will have to generate two national cultures: one non-Muslim and largely secular, the other Muslim. We will have two identities, two sets of allegiance and two legal and political systems.

These Middle East studies programs are highly influential because many of the Arabic translators who go to work in sensitive positions in the government have been trained at these centers.  Our best weapon against creeping Sharia is the good sense of the American people, and their propensity to fight back, as we’ve seen in Grand Island, Nebraska and other places. But we need more. We should not allow Saudi money to fund these centers. The government has to face up to the fact that Saudi Arabia may be a much-needed trading partner because of their oil, but they are our sworn enemy. We should treat them as such when it comes to letting them influence what goes on here. Would we have let Hitler fund National Socialism Studies centers?

Arabs and Muslims “chilled” by possible McCain/Palin victory

There is an intersting article from the Middle East Times posted over at Jihad Watch about how Arabs and Muslims generally are shaking in their boots about McCain and Palin in the White House.   Actually when you read the Times article it’s hard to tell whether McCain or Palin strikes more fear in their hearts.

The first Republican woman to be on a national ticket must especially scare Muslim countries that are trying so hard to keep their women subservient.   A strong independant woman with lots of children has got to be their worst nightmare, especially in light of their goal to outbreed us.  And Palin hasn’t yet succumbed to the politically correct word police as demonstrated by this account in the Times article:

Particularly highlighted in the media Friday were remarks made by Palin in June that the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the American troops there were “on a task from God.”

“Our national leaders are sending soldiers out on a task that is from God,” Palin told ministry students at her former church in a video that spread like wildfire across the Internet.

She asked her audience to pray for the troops in Iraq. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan,” she said.

The article also takes a swipe at our western values in a segment about the pregnancy of Palin’s 17-year-old daughter.  Imagine the nerve of people who sanction female genital mutilation, forced marriages of children to old men (see Jihad Watch for one such girl murdered this week when she tried to get out of the marriage), and honor killings.

Honor killing in America

Fox News is presenting a special news report this evening and tomorrow evening entitled:  “Murder in the Family:  Honor killing in America.”    This is a topic we have reported on many times here at Refugee Resettlement Watch.   As the number of immigrants from Muslim countries climb in the United States expect to hear more of this barbaric practice.

Check out this special with Megyn Kelly tonight at 8 p.m.   Here is our archive on the topic.

Shelbyville (again!): Assimilation Somali style

A man believed to be a Somali refugee is in critical condition after he allegedly went on a crime spree after attending a “religious conference” at a mosque in Shelbyville, TN.   Regular readers will recognize Shelbyville as the site of much angst over the arrival of Somali refugees to that southern town ostensibly lured by employment at a Tyson’s meat packing plant.  Residents have complained that the Somalis seemed unwilling to assimilate to life in America.   This week’s incident is reported in the Times-Gazette.

First the Atlanta Somali stole a car (after the religious conference):

According to a report by Shelbyville police officer Josh Leverette, Francisco Carrillo told authorities that Abbas Hussein, who was in town “for a camp” at an East Depot Street location described by Leverette as “possibly a Somalian mosque,” reached into Carrillo’s right front pocket and took his car keys.

Then he is charged with entering a Baptist Church and attempting to sexually assault a woman there (this will really endear the Somalis to their southern neighbors):

Instead, Hussein allegedly took the 1996 Ford Explorer and headed south, where he allegedly entered Center Grove Baptist Church between Estill Springs and Tullahoma about 9 p.m. and allegedly attempted to rape a woman in the building.

Then he stole yet another vehicle and almost ran over a deputy who suffered a foot injury:

Following that incident, Franklin County deputies received a report that a 1999 Ford F-250 had been stolen from Speedy Sak Market north of Estill Springs, with Hussein allegedly leaving Carrillo’s truck behind. The stolen vehicle was spotted by Sgt. Milton Binkley of the sheriff’s department, who attempted to pull it over.

Hussein drove erratically, flipped the truck over while being pursued by police, nearly died, and was flown to the hospital.  Read the whole story by award-winning reporter Brian Mosely.  Don’t forget to read the comments!

In my opinion, this is the critical part of the article:

Lt. Bell told the T-G Thursday that Hussein’s family in Atlanta explained the man had been “attending a religious conference of some kind in Shelbyville.”

I guess they weren’t teaching Somalis about how to assimilate to America at this “religious conference”, so what exactly were they learning there that set him off?     How much do you want to bet that no law enforcement people go to the mosque and ask questions about the meeting content?

P.S.  Where is the Tennessee Immigration and Refugee Rights Coaliton when you need them?

Ho hum, another abuse of women story, this one from Cleveland

Believe me I am not as heartless as my title above suggests.   We have a very serious and growing problem with abuse of women and girls in the immigrant population and it is especially hard to eradicate in the Muslim community that views women as the property of men.

The difficulty in rooting out the problem is compounded by our reverance for the concept of cultural relativism—multiculturalists would have us think that all cultures are equal.   It is not true, and immigrants and refugees must be taught to assimilate to our culture and the standards we set in this country for the treatment of women.  From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

The first time her screams brought police to the house, the Lakewood mother lied. She told the officers that her husband did not strike her.

She was thinking of her immigrant community and the role she was expected to play. Faithful wife. Submissive mother. Mostly, she was thinking of her children and how she would support them without an income.

The night the police came back, she did not have to weigh what to say. She heard her enraged husband admit that, yes, he smacked his wife. He owned her. He could hit her.

“No, you cannot,” she recalls the officer answering, and he led her husband out of the house and out of her daily life.

The Lakewood mother asked that her anonymity be protected because she fears further angering her husband or his family. She is a Palestinian Muslim who last year took a step almost unheard of in her community. She declared herself a victim of domestic violence, secured an order of protection against her husband and filed for divorce.

Good for her!   Since we have been posting lately about the Palestinian refugees, I am wondering how this Palestinian family came to be in the US.  I don’t see any statistics at the Office or Refugee Resettlement database to indicate we are taking Palestinian refugees, yet.
