‘Social justice’ professors lecture Alaskans on refugees, demand they be more “welcoming”

And, one of the authors of this Op-Ed works with the resettlement contractor, Refugee Assistance and Immigration Service, which is Catholic Social Services.

What the ‘professors’ don’t get is that you can’t shove diversity, especially in the high numbers now arriving through refugee resettlement, down the throats of people anywhere. Imagine if we westerners wanted to go live in Somalia or Saudi Arabia and be given a guiding hand with social services and job training, etc.  Heck, they wouldn’t just write graffiti on our cars—they would kill us!

Here is how the piece at Alaska Dispatch News begins:

Co-author and scold, Rebecca Volino Robinson doesn’t care about Alaskan citizens’ rights and culture as much as she does the Somalis and other refugees arriving in Alaska. http://www.ak-pa.org/governance/boardmembers/_boardmember_pages/rebecca_robinson.htm

After about an hour-long interview, we asked our final question: “What makes you feel welcome here, in Anchorage?” The interviewee, a Somali refugee who has lived in Anchorage for less than five years, said: “The people. The people are very welcoming and friendly.”

These words from one of our research participants came to mind this weekend as we read about Mohammed Hano and Mobarak Albadawi, Darfuri refugees whose cars were vandalized with messages like “go home,” “leave Alaska,” and “you’re not welcome here.” These words again came to mind when we read that the Anchorage Police Department (APD) refused to send an officer to investigate the “vandalism incident.” And the words came to mind once more as we read piercingly negative comments to the Alaska Dispatch News’ coverage of the crime, such as, “I would love to know how much they (the refugees) are profiting from all the donations …,” and, “They come from a land of genocidal maniacs … but they are frightened by some paint from vandals … this is a simple minded hoax …,” and, “this is an incredibly minor crime … there’s zero evidence of a hate crime.”

The lecture is here if you want to hear more.

The Leftist community organizers and co-authors (Robinson and David) go on to say that the refugees don’t get much welfare (they get generous welfare for years! See ORR annual report, here), that this is probably a hate crime and that the community should be offering “love, acceptance and support” to the myriad ethnic groups being resettled in Alaska.

For psychology professors they sure are dumb about the psychology of the average conservative hard-working American man or woman who see their tax dollars going to help third world migrants settle in Alaska while we have American poor people (and probably many Alaskan natives!) living in poverty.

How about taking care of our own first?  What is wrong with that?  Not cool enough for these two?

Here is a little experiment:  Let’s just say a whole host of conservative (Robinson and David might call them ‘rednecks’ in private) Americans moved up to Alaska and into the community where they live, would Robinson and David welcome their diversity? Is diversity so beautiful then?  My guess is that they would eventually move out!  But, maybe the average Alaskan who wants to maintain his or her community and culture (the one they know and love) can’t so easily move.

Why aren’t Americans permitted to preserve our culture?  Do we have no right to want to preserve our cultural and religious roots? Are we somehow less deserving of ‘humanitarian’ concern?

Is ‘social justice’ only for Left wingers and immigrants?

Be sure to see a post we wrote on Alaska, here, about the refugee flow to Alaska (thanks to the Catholics!) making it possible for the construction of a large mosque in Anchorage.

See also our post on St. Cloud community organizer and scold—Professor Luke Tripp—here.  See a pattern?  You might also want to see our post—more than half of the Somalis in Minnesota live in poverty.

Alaska gets first mosque; refugees helping fuel diversity boom in Anchorage

In the Modern Day Trojan Horse:  Al-Hijra the Islamic Doctrine of Immigration authors Sam Solomon and E Al Maqdisi explain that migration is jihad and mosque-building is an important part of the migration and ultimately the establishment of the Islamic state.  If you haven’t read it yet, please do.

Now the migration has spread to Alaska and is being helped along by the US State Department’s Refugee Admissions Program.  According to our handy list, Catholic Social Services can be thanked for resettling Muslims there as the State Department refugee resettlement contractor.

From Aljazeera (of course!):

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska’s first mosque has risen quietly over the last few years in a gravel lot in a South Anchorage commercial district, a neighbor to a Korean Presbyterian church, a couple of auto repair garages, a drive-through Chinese restaurant and a Sons of Norway hall.

A few weeks ago, Sam Obeidi, vice president of the Islamic Community Center Anchorage Alaska, turned a key and pushed open the mosque’s door, flipping on a light in a hallway that smelled of drywall plaster and new carpet.

Palestinian by birth, Obeidi came to Alaska as a teenager to join his father, a refugee, who settled in Anchorage in the 1960s.

The Islamic holy land may be more than 6,000 miles away, but Anchorage has increasingly become a destination for Muslims, who now number as many as 3,000 in the city, the ICCAA estimates.

The draw is partly economic — Alaska’s economy was barely touched by the recession — and partly connected to waves of government refugee resettlement in Alaska’s largest city. White non-Hispanics now make up just over half the population of Anchorage. The rest is made up of a diverse mix of cultures: Alaska Natives, Pacific Islanders, Asians, Africans and Hispanics. More than 100 languages are spoken in the Anchorage schools.

That striking diversity is amplified among Muslims, who are far more likely to be immigrants and refugees. While many mosques in U.S. cities are tied to a single ethnic group, Friday prayers in Anchorage might draw Gambians, Pakistanis, Albanians, Somalis, Sudanese, Egyptians, Palestinians, Iraqis, Bangladeshis, Burmese, Russians and Malaysians, among others.

There is more, read it all.

By the way, in the Netherlands they are starting to ‘get it’ about mosque construction and the same goes for Germany.

Did you ever wonder why mosques are being proposed in places where there doesn’t seem to be enough supporting population for them?   Solomon and Al Maqdisi say that the mosque is a kind of territorial marker (my words) used to pull a Muslim population to it where the numbers will grow and expand until some set up another mosque and migrate to the new area.  It is a religious obligation to migrate (even to places like Alaska!).

Burmese refugee: All I want for Christmas is my HIV/AIDS drugs

My alerts are filled with news of charitable groups giving Christmas parties and other gift-giving events for the ‘holiday’ season.  I’m fully convinced that we have no more poor Americans remaining.  When I grew up it was all about Appalachia.  But, I guess those folks have moved on up.  Or, as fans of Nascar and Duck Dynasty, they aren’t so attractive to the do-gooder crowd.

This article from Tulsa, Oklahoma says the 5,000 Burmese who have arrived there since 2007 are living “on the fringe” which makes me wonder how we keep hearing that 80% (or more) of refugees have become self-sufficient within their first year in America.

Here is the news from Austin, Texas about the needy Aung Min family.  Hat tip: Joanne.

They want a another baby and they need to keep Dad free of HIV/AIDS long enough to conceive one!

Uka has to stay HIV-negative long enough to conceive a sibling for Okee. Nice shoes!

Uka Aung Min spent two days resting on the floorboards of a car, trying to be invisible. He would take little sips of water and eat only a little bit after dark. As a student protester, he was no longer safe in Burma.

The car took him from Burma, also known as Myanmar, to Thailand and then Malaysia, where he would spend 11 years in a refugee camp. There, he met his wife, Naw.

Now this makes no sense.  Because he was HIV-positive he was allowed to come to the US, but the pregnant wife was left behind?  And, if refugees are becoming self-sufficient, how on earth did he wander homeless from Alaska*** to Texas.   Was no one, no contractor, monitoring his care and his meds?  Wasn’t the whole reason he was given a ticket to America was to get his HIV drugs?  Does no curious reporter wonder how this is possible?

After Naw became pregnant with daughter Okee, Uka Aung Min, 32, learned he was HIV-positive. With no medicine available to him in the refugee camp, he was allowed to become a refugee to the United States.

First he settled in Alaska, and then he came to Austin. At times he was homeless, but eventually he was able to move his family here and meet Okee, who is now 2, for the first time.

Goodies are flowing in, but they need money for HIV/AIDS medicine! (For rent, utilities, internet etc. as well!)  Didn’t we learn that the whole reason Uka Aung Min got into the US was so he would be treated for AIDS?

Since being featured in the Statesman (Season for caring) program, the Aung Mins have received a couch and love seat, beds from Factory Mattress, dental care from Aloha Dental, an iPad and bookshelves.

They still have a lot of needs: rent and utilities assistance; a car; day care for Okee to enable Naw, 36, to attend English language classes in January; Internet service; dressers; dining room furniture; and a toy box. They also would love help paying for medicines to keep Naw HIV-negative while conceiving a brother or sister for Okee. Gift cards for clothing, groceries and gas would be appreciated. Okee loves to draw, and they would like to give her crayons and paper.  [Crayons and paper have got to be cheaper than those high-heeled shoes for a two-year-old!—ed]

So where was Catholic Social Services of Alaska when it came to monitoring Uka?

***I wondered who might be responsible for letting Uka Aung Min wander America and become homeless without AIDS drugs and it sure looks like it was Catholic Social Services of Alaska.  LOL!  They claim to have a self-sufficiency rate of 79%.  Was Uka’s AIDS so bad he couldn’t work? Is he working now?

The resettlement contractors will be quick to tell you that this is America and people are allowed to move without checking in with anyone, however, this story just reminds us that there are refugees with communicable diseases (like HIV/AIDS and TB) who are moving around with no one monitoring whether they are staying on their meds!
