Charleston, WV 'Interfaith' leader and lawyer setting up new refugee resettlement office, planning rally

Funny, it was only yesterday I told you that local ‘Interfaith’ groups were primary promoters of the expansion of refugee resettlement beyond the two hundred or so offices already up and running, here, into dozens of new towns and cities primarily to receive massive new numbers of Syrian Muslim refugees, among others from dozens of countries.
Now we learn from the Charleston Gazette-Mail that Episcopal Migration Ministries is applying to the US State Department to expand resettlement from the small number of refugees placed in the West Virginia capitol now by Catholic Charities (about 25 last year) to add 100 from EMM in the 2017 fiscal year.

A local activist ‘Interfaith’ group is incorporating as a non-profit supposedly for the purpose of being the local resettlement subcontractor.
(If this is your first visit to RRW, be sure to see Ten Things your town needs to know…’ because once opened the office will expand each year even if the city of Charleston begs for a reprieve in the number being placed.)
For background, see this previous post on Charleston, WV and follow links to earlier posts.
There is a ‘pocket of resistance’ getting firmly established there.
Wonder where the phrase ‘pocket of resistance’ came from? That is what I heard officials of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement call any community where citizens were demanding answers about the UN/US State Department Refugee Admissions Program. Go here for that 2013 post!  Imagine that! Government bureaucrats referring to citizens who might disagree with their plan for America as being in ‘pockets of resistance.’
From the Charleston Gazette-Mail:

A national refugee resettlement agency has submitted an application to the U.S. Department of State to turn Charleston into one of its “resettlement communities.”

Episcopal Migration Ministries, one of nine national refugee resettlement agencies that works with the U.S. government and local groups to place refugees, and the West Virginia Interfaith Refugee Ministry have been working together in hopes of making Charleston a safe haven for refugees.

The West Virginia Interfaith Refugee Ministry aims to create greater understanding of the Muslim community [assumption here for this group is that they will get Syrian Muslims–ed] and the plight of refugees, including those fleeing Syria, where millions have been displaced and hundreds of thousands have been killed.

[….]

Episcopal Migration Ministries submitted an application to the State Department last month to resettle 100 refugees in the first year in Charleston. Duvall noted the State Department will determine the number if the application is approved.

[….]

Kendall Martin, spokeswoman for Episcopal Migration Ministries, said that the agency has not recently submitted any applications for resettlement communities anywhere else. She said that if the application is approved, they will hold quarterly meetings with the community.

Asked how often their applications are typically approved, Martin said they had only submitted one other site application, for Wichita, Kansas***, to the State Department in the past five years, and it was approved.

Lynn Clarke and Ibtesam Sue Barazi, two of the local volunteers, said they are working on bylaws for their group and preparing for the possibility of establishing a nonprofit organization if the application is approved.

A pro-Syrian refugee rally is scheduled for 5 p.m. on November 15th.

There is only one reason for such a rally and that is to create the impression that West Virginia is wildly welcoming of refugees from the third world and from countries that hate us!  It is about swaying the media and the US State Department.

Barazi, a Syrian immigrant who has lived in West Virginia since 1975, said they also are planning a “West Virginia Welcomes Refugees” rally to be held at 5 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Haddad Riverfront Park, followed by a candlelight vigil. The rally follows a similar event last year that drew hundreds of people. Organizers say they want to “respond to fear with love.”

Visit the Charleston Gazette-Mail for more information and to see the cool graphic showing the other locations around the country where EMM has offices.
One more thing! If Clark and her cohorts succeed and get an office open, they won’t be choosing the refugees, but will be required to take what Washington sends them.  Ultimately, refugees will come from dozens of countries, thus, in some ways, making it harder and more expensive for the city and county to deal with the myriad languages.  Remember local and state taxpayers are responsible for providing interpreters for medical care, schools, and the criminal justice system!
P.S. If you are a West Virginian reading this and getting angry, there are 3 people to complain to: Rep. Alex Mooney (R) who represents Charleston in the House of Representatives and the two US Senators: Shelley Moore Capito (R) and Joe Manchin(D). By the way, if anyone talks to Mooney, tell him to get his history straight about that damn plaque on the Statue of Liberty. It was added later, the original statue had nothing to do with immigration.
***Wichita, Kansas is a prime example of refugee overload as the school system is swamped with refugee kids speaking many languages and it is subsequently BROKE, see here. Do you want this problem in Charleston?

West Virginia you are up next as expanding federal refugee program looking for fresh territory

And, West Virginia is fresh indeed!  It is one of the states the UN/US State Department program forgot (until now).  Other states with tiny refugee populations are Joe Biden’s Delaware, Bill Clinton’s Arkansas, a few states in the deep south and of course Montana and Wyoming.  I always assumed that Democratic Senator Bobby (“Sheets”) Byrd had kept the program out of West Virginia, but he is gone.

The Islamic Association of West Virginia (a mosque) is expanding its space. They are involved in the local ‘Interfaith’ group looking to bring Syrians to Charleston. http://www.wvgazettemail.com/news/20160409/muslims-outgrow-mosque-in-south-charleston

I just now checked the State Department data and since 2008, West Virginia ‘welcomed’ 156 refugees with the largest number being Iraqis (59), Burmese (46) and Eritreans (40). Tiny numbers of course compared to states which receive in the thousands each year. Guess the low-wage refugee workers will now be competing with out of work coal miners.
Here is the news from the Charleston Gazette-Mail (emphasis is mine):
They all think that economic boom times will follow the refugees (it doesn’t, all of you citizens of West Virginia, please learn from what happened in Utica, here).

As Charleston’s population continues to decline, a refugee resettlement service is considering opening an agency in the city that would assist hundreds of refugees in moving to the area.

Episcopal Migration Ministries [one of nine top federal contractors—ed] a refugee-resettlement agency, sent Jeffrey Hawks and Allison Duvall to Charleston to learn more about the city this week. Hawks is a consultant for the organization, while Duvall is an employee.

The West Virginia Interfaith Refugee Ministry [remember my warning about these ‘interfaith’ groups!—ed] a group that started to create greater understanding of the plight of Syrian refugees, is working to turn Charleston into one of the Episcopal Migration Ministry’s “resettlement communities.” The ministry has 30 of those communities in cities throughout the United States.

The agencies work with local organizations in each city to assist refugees with translation, food, clothing, housing, education, mental health support, medical services, job training and community orientation.

Anti-Muslim sentiment is rampant throughout the country. Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for president, has called for a ban on Muslims entering the United States. Many have called for preventing Syrian refugees, fleeing the carnage of civil war in their country, from entering the country. A West Virginia lawmaker even started a petition to ban them from West Virginia.

However, a group of Charlestonians sat in a meeting room at St. John’s Episcopal Church Thursday afternoon and took turns trying to convince Hawks and Duvall that Charleston would be an ideal place for refugees from Syria and other places to live…

More evidence that the federal contractors are out looking for fresh territory in which to seed Syrians (and other refugees).

But they didn’t have to do much convincing. Episcopal Migration Ministries has already researched Charleston and decided it would be a good fit for refugees. Ultimately, whether the city can be selected as one of the ministry’s resettlement communities will be up to the U.S. Department of State, Hawks said.

Now check this out!  The local Islamic Center is one step ahead of you all with their propaganda campaign (gotta fill that new building!):

Hawks and Duvall met a friendly crowd Thursday evening as well. They attended “The Refugee Experience” at 7 p.m. at the Islamic Association of West Virginia, in South Charleston. At the community event, refugees spoke about their experiences resettling in Charleston.

And, then this is new!  I have never heard of a federal contractor expecting up front money from a wannabe subcontractor.  They must really be stretched to get Obama’s 85,000 refugees in here by the end of the year and be ready for his proposed 100,000 for next year.

…those in Charleston organizing the effort will need to raise about $90,000 for upfront costs. They will need to pay for the salary of at least one employee of the agency for every 75 placements.

I can’t guarantee that Trump can save us, but I know for sure that Hillary Clinton will put the refugee program on steroids if elected in November!
P.S. It is Sunday morning, maybe it’s time for any of you Episcopalians reading this to have a word with your priests and church leaders about what they are doing in the name of your faith!
An afterthought: It occurred to me right after I hit ‘post’ that this story might bring in new readers who don’t know that we have been writing about several new sites to be colonized including Missoula, MT, Ithaca, NY, Reno, NV, Rutland, VT and Fayetteville, AR. Many more will be popping up soon as they prepare for the new fiscal year which begins Oct. 1.

Kansas refugee contractors: heck with the governor, we won't stop bringing in refugees

Yesterday we told you that Sam Brownback, the governor of Kansas, withdrew the state from the UN/US State Department Refugee Admissions Program making it effectively the 13th Wilson-Fish state***.

Bishop_Wolfe_laugh_sm
Bishop Dean Wolfe: no matter what the governor says we will continue to overload Wichita and other Kansas cities with refugees. http://www.episcopal-ks.org/bishop/About-Bishop-Dean-E-Wolfe.php

Wilson-Fish references an amendment to the original Refugee Act of 1980 where the federal government has taken it upon itself to write new regulations (with no statutory backing) that say if a state government opts-out of the program, the feds can assign a non-profit group to run the resettlement program in the state.  Think about that! In 12 states right now the feds and a private contractor are making decisions on how to spend state and local tax dollars!
We believe that such a provision is unconstitutional and so does the Thomas More Law Center which has a case ready to file if one brave governor (of a Wilson-Fish state) will step up and be the plaintiff. How about Gov. Brownback?
Or better still how about several brave governors joining forces!  And, if you aren’t in a Wilson Fish state (Texas! for example), you should be urging your ‘brave’ governor to opt-out and then file this lawsuit!
The Tennessee legislature has voted to sue the feds on these Tenth Amendment grounds, see here.
Here is the latest as the arrogant Kansas contractors tell the governor where to go! Maybe you should first read about how the Wichita school system is overloaded with refugees and broke.

“America First!” What about our American kids? No Christian charity for them?

From the Wichita Eagle:

The bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas says his church will continue to help resettle refugees in Kansas despite Gov. Sam Brownback’s decision to withdraw the state from the federal resettlement program.

Brownback cited security concerns Tuesday when he announced he was ending the state’s participation in the program, which helps resettle refugees fleeing war-torn nations.

Episcopal Migration Ministries will continue its resettlement work in Wichita regardless of the state’s position, the Rev. Dean Wolfe said in a statement late Wednesday.

“In the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas we will continue to be an advocate for those who have no voice,” Wolfe said. “With the exception of indigenous peoples, we are all immigrants to this great land.”

The International Rescue Committee, the other refugee resettlement agency working in the Wichita area, has also promised to continue helping place refugees in Kansas.

Federal officials told Kansas officials earlier in the month that they would work directly with local agencies if Kansas chose to leave the program. [This is the unconstitutional Wilson-Fish model—ed]

North Carolina: Craven County considering resolution to block some refugees from the county

They should add Burma to their list of countries of concern!

We just told readers all about the resolution here at American Resistance 2016!  But, I wanted to give you some basic numbers for New Bern, the county seat, and didn’t want to make that post too long!

Susan Husson
Susan Husson (left) is the Executive Director of Interfaith Refugee Ministry and as such is responsible for the refugees arriving in New Bern. http://christnewbern.ecdio.org/dfc/newsdetail_2/3156057

The primary resettlement contractor in New Bern is ‘Interfaith Refugee Ministry’ another so-called ‘religious’ non-profit that is being paid by the head to bring refugees of all ethnic and religious backgrounds to coastal New Bern.  It is a subcontractor of one of the big nine—Episcopal Migration Ministries.
New Bern made the news last year when a Burmese refugee hacked to death three little boys.  See our post here. (So much for “robust” screening!). Be sure to see that post because at that time we looked up some financial information on Interfaith Refugee Ministry and it is posted there.
Also, the county’s US Congressman (Rep. Walter Jones) has been one of the leaders on The Hill in trying to rein-in the refugee program, see here.
I wanted to see exactly how many refugees New Bern was getting so checked the US State Department data base, here. Because of a lack of time, I didn’t look up any other towns that might be in Craven County.
These are the numbers for those being resettled in New Bern from January 1, 2009 until January 1, 2016 (Obama’s term so far). The whole state of North Carolina admitted 16,261 (I believe NC is in the top ten resettlement states in the nation, but did not check that for this post).  The numbers below do not take into consideration those who might have come as secondary migrants to New Bern, or those who have left (refugees can leave right away if they want and no one pays any attention to where they go).
Nationality and number:

Burma (1,087)

Colombia (20)

Cuba (20)

DR Congo (3)

Vietnam (44)

Iraq (52)

Somalia (2)

Syria (3)

Commissioners should add Burma to their list!

When you check the county commissioners’ proposed resolution, here, note that Burma is not on the list of countries of concern, but it should be!  We have admitted over 13,000 Rohingya Muslims from Burma to the US since 9/11, go here.
The US State Department has been mixing them in with the mostly Burmese Christians for resettlement and it has caused problems in several communities in the US.
