The federal Office of Refugee Resettlement has sent out an announcement about a US Justice Department webinar on how to stop FGM in populations of refugees coming from certain African and Middle Eastern countries.

Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) in the United States

On March 18, 2015, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. ET, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) will host “Keeping Kids Safe:  Preventing Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting in the United States.”  Experts from the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education, Sanctuary for Families, and Johns Hopkins University will provide an overview of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C); highlight the U.S. government’s response to FGM/C; discuss its physical, psychological, and emotional impacts; provide resources for practitioners and educators; and explore laws to keep children safe.

 

Learning Objectives:
  • Raise awareness and understanding of issues that some young girls and women face in the U.S. and abroad related to FGM/C
  • Present information on the physical, psychological, and emotional effects of FGM/C
  • Provide tools and resources to identify and prevent FGM/C in at-risk young girls and a toll free phone number and e-mail for reporting tips about persons at risk for FGM/C
  • Explain the legal consequences of FGM/C as a federal crime and a reportable child abuse offense in most states

Here is my idea on how to stop it—-after saving the girl, deport any family caught promoting this practice in any way and put in place a moratorium on any new refugees coming from countries and cultures where this horrific practice is common!

A half a million girls in immigrant/refugee households in US at risk for genital mutilation

The number has jumped dramatically as Muslim refugees have entered the US from Somalia, Ethiopia and to a lesser degree Egypt.  The horrific practice has been illegal in the US for nearly 20 years!

This map is incredible since it almost state-for-state matches the highest refugee resettlement states in the US!

Nearly 507,000 women and girls in the United States could be at risk of female genital excision, including 57,000 in California, a new study has found.

That is more than twice the number that were thought to be at risk in 2000, the last year for which estimates are available.

Analysts at the Population Reference Bureau, a nonprofit research organization in Washington, attributed the preliminary findings released Friday to an increase in immigration [REFUGEES—ed] from countries where the practice is common, including Egypt, Ethiopia and Somalia.

It is unclear how many families continue the practice after moving to the U.S., but community activists say there is anecdotal evidence of girls being sent back to their parents’ home countries for “vacation cutting” and of traditional cutters traveling to the U.S. to circumcise girls in this country.

To estimate the number who may have undergone the procedure or be at risk, the research group used data collected by the Census Bureau for the 2013 American Community Survey to determine the number of women and girls whose families originate in countries where female genital excision is practiced. It then applied the prevalence rates in those countries to the numbers in the U.S.

The methodology is similar to that used by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a study that found about 168,000 women and girls were at risk of genital excision in the U.S. in 1990, said Mark Mather, the group’s associate vice president for U.S. programs.

California is the state with the highest at-risk population, followed by New York (48,000) and Minnesota (44,000), the Population Reference Bureau found.  [We know that Minnesota has the highest Somali population in the US—ed]

As long-time readers know, Sweden is my bet for the first European country to fall to Islamic dominance.  We have an extensive archive, click here, on the insane Swedish Leftists who have opened their doors wide to any Muslim migrants who can get there!

Here is a story from last week (posted on World Refugee Propaganda Day no less) about a shocking discovery in Sweden!   All the girls in one school class were mutilated!

From Breitbart (hat tip: Judy).  Emphasis is mine:

School health services in the small Swedish city of Norrköping have found 60 cases of female genital mutilation (FGM) among schoolgirls since March, with evidence of mutilation found in all 30 girls in one class, 28 of the most severe form.

In Sweden, where the EU’s Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) says that FGM “is considered to be a serious problem,” the law enables genital examination of children to be carried out without parents’ consent.

FGM has been a crime in Sweden since 1982 and can be punished by up to four years in prison, increased to 10 years if judged to be an aggravated offence.

According to EIGE, concerns about FGM became widespread in Sweden in the early and mid-1990s with the influx of Somali migrants: “The first national action taken in the field…was initiated after alarming testimonies from the healthcare sector indicating the existence of FGM among many — if not all — women that originated from FGM-practising countries.”

If they are “refugees” who fear for their lives, what the hell are they doing going back to their “home country?”

Now the daughters of immigrants are in danger of undergoing FGM. According to the Local, the risk of becoming a victim of the procedure increases in the summer when many schoolgirls visit their parents’ home country: “We’re working to inform parents that they could face prison if they come back and their children have undergone female genital mutilation,” said Petra Blom Andersson, student health coordinator in Norrköping.

Mutilation carried out abroad has been a crime in Sweden since 1999.

In 2013, Somalis were the third largest group granted asylum in the EU countries, according to a Eurostat figures reported yesterday by Breitbart London, with almost 10,000 granted protection. Sweden gave refugee status to 26,400 people last year, more than any other EU country.

You know this is happening in America too!  The silence is deafening!

UN tries, fails, to stop female genital mutilation in Somaliland

Once in awhile the UN does something we can support.

As you read this news account, know that many African refugees in America (and in 30 other countries!) still believe in this brutal practice (adding “vibrant” cultural diversity/enrichment to your community). 

From Japan Times:

HARGEISA, SOMALIA – The 30 Somali teenagers — both boys and girls — all agreed: Female genital mutilation is harmful and the practice should be abandoned. But what they really meant, they revealed moments later, is that girls should still have their genitalia cut — just not sewn shut.

“It’s our tradition, and if the girls are not subjected to ‘suna’ (cutting) she will not be accepted for marriage,” said Asthma Ibrahim Jabril, 17.

The students, who are part of an after-school club in Somaliland that the U.N. children’s agency helps fund, discuss issues like child labor, early marriage and female genital mutilation in a classroom with several large hearts scrawled along the walls. Somaliland is a semi-autonomous region in northern Somalia that has remained largely peaceful during Somalia’s decades of conflict.

UNICEF is weaving a delicate campaign to educate communities in Somaliland about the harms of female genital mutilation and to get leaders, who are meeting there this month to debate the practice, to denounce it.

Child rights advocates in nearly 30 countries are fighting to reduce the number of girls subjected to the cutting of their genitalia, a practice that goes back thousands of years and that Somali practitioners often link to Islamic requirements.

Egyptian pharaohs blamed, not Islam

Experts try to convince them that this is not a religious practice, but they are having none of it!

Officials with UNICEF tried to underscore that they do not believe female genital mutilation is required by Islam, though it is not strictly practiced by Muslims. Haydar Nasser, a UNICEF official who is Iraqi by birth but now a Canadian citizen, told the leaders that they were following a custom first practiced by the Egyptians some 6,000 years ago, long before Islam was founded.

“So the question to you to discuss today is why as a Muslim practice do you employ a pharaoh practice, pharaohs who went to hell because they are ‘kaffirs,’” he said, using the Arabic word for someone who doesn’t believe in Islam.

Thanks, but no thanks!

At the end of the daylong meeting that UNICEF had hoped would end in a decision to abandon female genital mutilation, the religious leaders — including the minister of religious affairs — say they could not agree to abandon suna. The practice of female genital cutting will continue.

I’m glad to see that the UN is trying, it’s better than turning a blind eye in the name of cultural relativism.

Here is news of a new report on this disgusting, degrading, barbaric practice that you know they are not leaving behind when they migrate to the West.

From All Africa.  The UN does something useful here:

Mogadishu — Approximately 6.5 million Somali girls and women have undergone female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) — otherwise known as female circumcision — according to a new report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Although support for the practice is waning, the report indicates that 98% of Somali women between 15 and 49 have been cut or mutilated — the highest per capita percentage in the world.

In addition, the report states that female circumcision is higher among Somalis even in countries where the practice is less common.
