Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society launches election year campaign

They call it…. VOTE FOR WELCOME!

As a non-profit federal grantee they need to be especially careful about lobbying and getting in to electoral political activities.  See here.

If the Refugee Admissions Program survives, the most important reform we need is a prohibition (in the law itself) on federal refugee contractors***, like HIAS, from political organizing and advocacy/lobbying while being funded by you and me, the taxpayers.

Better still, take all nine contractors out of the resettlement business completely!

HIAS received over $186 million from the federal Treasury since 2008, here. And, they have been organizing rallies like this one (with Keith Ellison) against President Trump.

Now this….

***Here below are the nine federal refugee resettlement contractors.

You might be sick of seeing this list almost every day, but a friend once told me that people need to see something seven times before it completely sinks in, so it seems to me that 70, or even 700 isn’t too much!

And, besides I have new readers every day.

The present US Refugee Admissions Program will never be reformed if the system of paying the contractors by the head stays in place and the contractors are permitted to act as Leftwing political agitation groups, community organizers and lobbyists paid on our dime!

And, to add insult to injury they pretend it is all about ‘humanitarianism.’

The number in parenthesis is the percentage of their income paid by you (the taxpayer) to place the refugees into your towns and cities and get them signed up for their services (aka welfare)!  And, get them registered to vote eventually!

From my most recent accounting, here.  However, please see that Nayla Rush at the Center for Immigration Studies has done an update of their income, as has James Simpson at the Capital Research Center!

MN Rep Keith Ellison pushing for US to resettle 110,000 refugees beginning on Monday

Rep. Keith Ellison is among 50 or so Congressional members of the House Progressive Caucus who have submitted a Resolution in the House pushing for Trump to return to Obama’s proposed 110,000 ceiling for refugees to be admitted to the US in the coming fiscal year.

The story is at the Minnesota Sun entitled:

Keith Ellison Wants to Flood Minnesota and the U.S. with 110,000 Refugees in 2019

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) is leading an effort to try to force President Trump to boost the number of refugees permanently resettled in the United States over the next fiscal year by more than 300 percent.

Ellison is the Democrat nominee for the statewide office of attorney general in Minnesota. He holds a slight lead in the most recent polls over his Republican opponent, Doug Wardlow, and is currently entangled in allegations of sexual abuse by two women.

Ellison at HIAS demo
Taxpayer dollars at work? In February 2017, Ellison headlined an anti-Trump rally in New York organized by the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society a federally-funded refugee resettlement ‘non-profit’ group. Since 2008, HIAS has received $186 million from the US Treasury. https://refugeeresettlementwatch.org/2017/02/14/breitbart-federally-funded-refugee-resettlement-contractor-hias-organized-ny-rally-against-trump/

The Minnesota Sun continues….

The issue of refugee resettlement has become a hot topic in the state’s gubernatorial race between GOP nominee Jeff Johnson and Democrat nominee Rep. Tim Walz (D-MN).

House Resolution 1073 was submitted by Ellison and more than 50 other Democrat members of Congress to the House Judiciary Committee, where it could receive a hearing or be ignored.

Minnesota and Ohio have ranked among the top five states for receiving refugees over the last 10 years, with the vast majority coming from Somalia. And both states have had problems with Somali violence, including knife attacks at two difference malls in Minnesota and a car-ramming and knife attack at Ohio State University, among the most bloody examples.

The list of signatories on the resolution reads like a who’s who of the leadership of the House Progressive Caucus, which is considered the most far left of the Democrat Party. Ellison is vice chair of the caucus.

[….]

As Barack Obama once said, “elections have consequences,” and one of Trump’s campaign promises was to admit fewer refugees and other low-skill immigrants.

That infuriates, almost more than anything else Trump has done, the far left of the Democrat Party.

Hence, you have the resolution drawn up and submitted this week by Ellison, who is one of two Muslim members of Congress along with Rep. Andre Carson, (D-IN). Carson has also signed the resolution.

The House resolution claims to be “Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the Presidential Determination of the annual refugee admissions limit in fiscal year 2019 shall be no less than 110,000 and that President Trump and his administration must operate the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) in good faith.”

As faithful readers know, Secretary of State Pompeo announced a week ago that the administration is looking at a ceiling/cap of 30,000, see here.

More here.

And, don’t miss my post on the myth about Obama’s 110,000.

Open Borders Leftists are mean and increasingly unhinged; HIAS demonstrates just how much!

The hypocrisy of the Left has been on full display with perhaps the ultimate example of that surrounding the McCain funeralathon we witnessed (or tried to escape from viewing!) recently.  They talk a good game about civility, but make no mistake, Leftists are mean people.

Forget vigorous debates about policy directions! It is personal destruction that is the primary weapon for the people who claim they are on the side of all that is right and good.

Stephen Millers uncle

I wasn’t planning to write about how the Hard Leftists in the Open Borders movement have been showcasing Leftwing family members of key players in the Trump sphere, most notably White House adviser Stephen Miller’s uncle (and his childhood rabbi is also out demeaning Miller), but did you see they have now dragged out Laura Ingraham’s estranged Leftwing brother to attack her in social media?  It is shameful.

I wasn’t going to write about all this, that is, until I saw this story at Jewish Exponent where we see that federal refugee contractor, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, is showcasing Miller’s uncle at their media events!  What a ‘get’, as they likely high-five each other!

I repeat, Leftists are very mean people.

Agencies Address Refugee Program Concerns

A graph set up against the wall in the Nationalities Services Center (NSC) had towers of blue bars, varying in heights.

HIAS Philadelphia
No mention of how many people were in the audience. And, no caption for the photo.  That must be Miller’s mean Leftist uncle on the right.

The bars represent U.S. refugee resettlement arrivals from fiscal year 1980 — where the ceiling was set to 200,000 — to today with the fiscal year 2019 projection. The annual ceiling is now set at 45,000. Projections indicate that number could change to just 25,000.

In response, NSC, HIAS Pennsylvania and Bethany Christian Services of Greater Delaware Valley joined together to hold a panel discussion and conference on Sept. 6 about the dangers a drop that low could present for these agencies and the refugees they serve.

The danger that the biased media rarely mentions is that refugee contractors, like HIAS (one of nine contractors that monopolize refugee resettlement in the US), which got nearly $25 million from US taxpayers in a recent year and whose CEO makes a cool $300,000+ annual salary, are in danger of losing their sugar daddy—Uncle Sam!

The Jewish Exponent continues….

The U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program is on “life support,” NSC executive director Margaret O’Sullivan said.

“We are here to call attention to the potential evisceration of a program that has served as a point of pride for this nation for 40 years,” she said. “The current administration has been dismantling the program with stealth and with precision.”

As is usual, HIAS paraded out the most deserving refugees they could find, but clearly their star attraction was Stephen Miller’s uncle.

David S. Glosser, a neuropsychologist who volunteers with HIAS and gained name recognition for penning an essay condemning his nephew, Stephen Miller — senior adviser to Trump — and his anti-refugee remarks, shared the story of ancestors facing anti-Semitism and seeking refuge.

[….]

When he mentioned his family receiving help from Hebrew Immigrant and Aid Society as it was called then, HIAS PA Executive Director Cathryn Miller-Wilson smiled.

Longtime readers know that a few years back the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society dropped the ‘Hebrew’ from its name and became simply HIAS. There was never any coherent explanation about why they dropped the ‘Hebrew.’  Were they ashamed of the word?

I suspected that it had something to do with the fact that they place Muslim refugees and perhaps some of those refugees were squeamish about the word ‘Hebrew.’ Just a guess!

What follows next at the Jewish Exponent is a naive discussion about how today’s refugees (like those from the Middle East and Africa) are just like the Jewish refugees of yesteryear.  Of course they aren’t for a couple of reasons.

When Miller’s ancestors came, they were mostly culturally Europeans and there was no massive welfare system to support them. They worked hard and made it on their own with the help of their family. If they didn’t make it, they went back to the old country.

There was no taxpayer-funded NGO to take care of their every need!

Then here is the wrap of course!

….he and Miller-Wilson stressed, reach out to elected officials and vote.

750 “faith” groups and “faith” leaders tell the President that they want 75,000 additional third worlders admitted to US beginning October first

They cite their “collective scriptural mandate” as the reason for their demands that you, the American taxpayer, pay for their ‘religious’ charity.

Honestly, this is probably one of the most maddening aspects of this subject—-why on earth do they think the Bible says that government must take care of the poor?

Why can’t these “faith” leaders find ways to take care of the impoverished in the world (starting in their own towns!) using their own money!

(Or they can volunteer to help the third world in the third world!)

greek refugees
Your new neighbors? I had to laugh about the photo the Christian Post uses to illustrate this news.  Do these ‘refugees’ in Greece make you want to invite them home?  Where is the photo of  mothers and babies? And, why is one guy laughing?  Maybe because they fooled these Europeans!

Is your church lobbying the President? See below…. Continue reading “750 “faith” groups and “faith” leaders tell the President that they want 75,000 additional third worlders admitted to US beginning October first”

Pennsylvania: Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society rep says Trump low admission numbers could end the program

Cathryn Miller-Wilson said this to the Philadelphia Inquirer yesterday referring to a rumored ceiling number for FY19 of 25,000:

“Those kind of numbers are the elimination of the refugee resettlement program.”

Cathryn Miller-Wilson
Cathryn Miller-Wilson   http://hiaspa.org/news/press-release-hias-pennsylvania-announces-new-executive-director

I think HIAS overstates the case, and I want all of my readers to know that although low numbers might push some of the agencies (contractors)*** under financially (because the government pays them by the head for each refugee they place), the program won’t be eliminated as long as the Refugee Act of 1980 is still on the books in its present form.

I continue to advocate for the Trump Administration to pressure Congress to reform the entire process.

And, frankly time is running out! If the Republicans lose the house in November, then it is all over for years.

And, if the Republicans survive and Trump is not our president after 2020, there will be no reform.

So it is now or never!

Message to the White House:

Think big!

Go on the offense!

You are going to be blasted for any number lower than the 75,000 refugees the contractors are demanding.  So, my recommendation is that you set the level at zero and tell Congress to reform the program. If they want refugees, then review and reform the law! (And, we know that the White House could send recommended legislation to The Hill right now!)

There is no legal requirement that we take even one refugee!

And, there is no legal requirement that American taxpayers support these nine supposed non-profit groups!

Here is some of the The Inquirer story with a title we have come to expect:

Immigrant advocates fear U.S. will no longer be a beacon for refugees

The fear among immigration advocates is not only that thousands of refugees could remain stuck in overseas camps. Or that staffers at resettlement agencies in Philadelphia and elsewhere could be laid off or reassigned.

Muslims praying at WH
HIAS helped organize this protest against the President. That is their banner at right. Is this what they do with our money?

They’re afraid that the United States’ historic mission of welcoming the world’s most vulnerable people [like those in the photo?—ed] could effectively be coming to an end, with President Trump expected to again lower the annual limit on refugee admissions.

The talk filtering from Washington to on-the-ground agencies is that Trump could put the new cap at 25,000, with perhaps only half that number actually entering the country, the result of bureaucratic delays and other factors. He set the current year’s figure at 45,000, a nearly four-decade low. Less than half that number have been admitted as the end of the fiscal year approaches on Sept. 30.

[….]

By law, the president, in consultation with Congress, must issue what is called the Presidential Determination before the new fiscal year starts on Oct. 1. Generally, the number begins to leak from government officials around Labor Day.

[….]

Refugees come to the Philadelphia region from Afghanistan, Iraq, Bhutan, and elsewhere around the globe, but now in smaller numbers.

“We can’t just be quiet about this,” said Cathryn Miller-Wilson, executive director of HIAS PA, which provides legal and support services to immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. “Those kind of numbers are the elimination of the refugee resettlement program.”
