Pew: Hispanics/Asians more interested in deportation relief than US citizenship

Tell us again, Marco, why you support amnesty?

That is the headline from the latest Pew Research Center Survey of Hispanics and Asians living in the US.

A lot of the other information they came up with is pretty interesting too which should make some Republicans, those who are endorsing amnesty and kissing up to the Hispanic “voter,” re-think their position in support of so-called “comprehensive immigration reform.”

55% of Hispanics surveyed say they aren’t hankering to become voting citizens of the US.

Here are some of the results of the survey that interested me.   From Pew Hispanic Trends Project, thanks to reader Paul (emphasis and re-arrangement mine):

While lopsided majorities of Hispanics and Asian Americans support creating a pathway to citizenship for unauthorized immigrants, two new surveys from the Pew Research Center also show that these groups believe it is more important for unauthorized immigrants to get relief from the threat of deportation.

By 55% to 35%, Hispanics say that they think being able to live and work in the United States legally without the threat of deportation is more important for unauthorized immigrants than a pathway to citizenship. Asian Americans hold a similar view, albeit by a smaller margin—49% to 44%.

Immigrant Hispanics are especially supportive of deportation relief; by 61% to 27%, they say it is more important to unauthorized immigrants than having a pathway to citizenship.  [I’m not seeing why this statistic is different from the 55% mentioned earlier in the article.—ed]

And, get this!  Only 36% of LEGAL Mexicans in the US have bothered to become citizens.  Of course, it makes me wonder if many are voting anyway.

Not all legal immigrants necessarily choose to become U.S. citizens. In a report published earlier this year (Gonzalez-Barrera, Lopez, Passel and Taylor, 2013), the Pew Research Center found that among all Hispanic immigrants who are in the U.S. legally, just 44% have become citizens; the remainder are legal permanent residents. Among legal immigrants from Mexico, which is by far the largest country of origin for Hispanic immigrants, just 36% have gone through the naturalization process and become U.S. citizens.

Most illegal immigrants don’t know what is in the bill (S.744), but they will mostly blame Republicans if it fails.  Obama and the Dems are not, however, off the hook!

The surveys find that while large majorities of both groups say they have heard or seen at least a little about the legislation pending in Congress, roughly seven-in-ten Hispanics (67%) and Asian Americans (72%) also acknowledge they don’t know enough about the details of the bill to say if they support it or not.

If the immigration bill dies, a plurality of Hispanics (43%) and Asian Americans (48%) say they would mostly blame Republicans in Congress. But sizable minorities of each group—34% of Hispanics and 29% of Asian Americans—say they would hold Democrats in Congress and/or President Obama mainly responsible.

Even the illegal aliens get it!  Granting legal status will REWARD ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR!

…..majorities or pluralities of both groups say that granting legal status to unauthorized immigrants would reward illegal behavior (53% among Hispanics and 48% among Asian Americans) and lead to more immigrants coming the U.S. illegally in the future (51% among Hispanics and 61% among Asian Americans).

Nearly 3/4th of those already with a foot in the door want BORDER ENFORCEMENT increased.

About seven-in-ten (68%) Hispanics and 73% of Asian Americans support a proposal to increase enforcement of immigration laws at U.S. borders.

So, is immigration reform a top issue for immigrant Hispanics and Asians—NOPE!

For both Hispanics and Asian Americans, the surveys find that among five domestic issues tested—jobs and the economy, education, health care, the federal budget deficit and immigration—immigration ranked last.

There is a lot more—-read it all!

It is, however a top issue for the Left looking to increase its voter base.  And, for the likes of Grover Norquist and his big business cronies looking to keep wages low.

Israel’s parliament passes new law to detain migrants; Amnesty fumes

Some countries, like Israel, want to save themselves and others, like Sweden, have a death wish.   People with a brain understand that no country can long survive an invasion of third world migrants, and Israeli leaders understand that better than most.

So, this news is no surprise to us.  Israelis believe that most of the migrants who have streamed into the country illegally in recent years are economic migrants and detention until they are all sorted out only makes sense.

Of course all over the world the amnesty lobbyists are demanding that ‘asylum seekers’ be free to move around and work in the country they have entered without permission.

From the Los Angeles Times:

JERUSALEM — In a controversial move decried by human rights organizations, Israel’s parliament passed a bill allowing migrants to be jailed without trial for a year.

Under the law finalized early Tuesday after a heated late-night debate, Israeli authorities will be able to jail new migrants for a year if they slip over the border illegally, and detain others already in Israel in a new holding facility indefinitely.

The law was intended to apply almost exclusively to African migrants who cross the border in uncontrolled stretches of open desert. In the past, most have come in from Egypt.

It replaces a previous law, ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, that allowed migrants to be jailed for three years. The court ruled in September that the law violated human rights. The new law attempted to address the court’s concerns by lowering the detention time.

The illegal aliens will be allowed out in the daytime, but must return at night (so they aren’t in a prison!):

The new “open” facility will hold about 3,000 detainees and provide services to discourage them from working. Technically, they will be free to come and go during daytime but must return to the remotely located center by night.

The government refers to the migrants as “infiltrators” because they enter the country without passing through controlled border crossings. Many of the migrants are asylum seekers, but very few are granted asylum out of thousands of requests reviewed annually by a Refugee Status Determination committee.

A new border fence is now slowing the flow in from Egypt, but get this:

 …an estimated 50,000 asylum seekers and undocumented migrants from African countries live in Israel.

Come to think of it, there is something kind of freeing when one is always labeled the ‘bad guy’ as Israel is.  In fact, poor Swedes are trapped in a ‘good people’ image they likely won’t break out of before it’s too late to save their unique race/culture.

Mediterranean Migration Routes from the BBC

This is a very handy graphic published by the BBC (we like maps at RRW!).   For new readers we have written extensively on the invasion of Europe by Middle Easterners and Africans for years, but this year has seen the greatest increase in the numbers trying to get to Italy as the number one destination.  From there they hope to move on through Europe.   For a chuckle, see yesterday’s post on cannibalism on the way to the land of free meals.

I see there is no major migration route to the Vatican in Rome, maybe we should spread a rumor that the Pope is “welcoming” the stranger!

Isn’t it great how the US and certain European countries destabilized Libya and made it the go-to place for illegal migrants wanting to get to Europe!

You have probably all seen this by now, but it is worth showing again.

The British government, in apparent desperation, is considering placing more vans like this one around the country.

The UK Telegraph story begins with this:

 ‘Go Home’ vans could be introduced across Britain, the Immigration Minister has said.

The controversial vans, which carry posters telling illegal migrants to leave the country or face arrest, could appear in more British cities following a trial in London, Mark Harper said.

Rioting in Russia: Not even Russia is immune from ethnic conflict, anti-migrant anger

We post almost daily on one European country or another having problems with migrants, both legal and illegal, but we’ve rarely mentioned Russia.  It seems that Putin too has his hands full with anger toward immigrant masses as we see in this story about recent anti-migrant riots inflamed by the murder of an ethnic Russian in Moscow.   (Hat tip: Judy)

Moscow police detained some 380 people during the mass rioting in a southern district of the city. A mixed crowd of nationalists and locals attacked a warehouse run by natives of the Caucasus, blaming a migrant for the fatal stabbing of a local.

Authorities lifted the emergency plan codenamed “Volcano” after midnight, several hours after public order had been restored. The plan, put into effect in the afternoon, involved sending scores of riot police to the scene of the clashes, and placing police officers across the city on high alert.

The violent scenes came after a similar rampage took place at a nearby shopping center, where the rioters had originally gathered. The outraged crowd demanded that the police find the killer of a 25-year-old Russian, who was stabbed to death on Thursday allegedly by a man from the Caucasus or Central Asia.

The locals also lashed at the the authorities, accusing them of covering the wave of migrant crime and the illegal immigration in the area.

Although the ‘M’ word is never mentioned, Muslims make up a large percentage of the population in the Caucasus region and I suspect are a large part of the illegal flow into Moscow.

In case you are wondering, I’ve never heard of Russia accepting refugees.  And, I have no idea how much legal immigration they allow.  I’m guessing not much!
