Liar Liar pants on fire! Fake Syrian boy viral video filmed on Malta

I’ve had this story in my queue for a few days, and see today that anger against the film maker, Norwegian Lars Klevberg and producer John Einar Hagen, has only increased over the last few days.  Leading the mob to tar and feather them (Europe’s Jonathan Grubers!) is Human Rights Watch.

Before I get to Klevberg’s apology here is the basic story I meant to post a few days ago. More red meat for all of our readers from Malta.   For other readers, I bet you haven’t heard so much about Malta in your lifetimes as you have in recent months here at RRW!

The cast and crew of ‘Syria Hero Boy’ high-fiving! “It was not a cynical way to get attention. They had honest motivations,” Ase Meyer, short film commissioner for the NFI.

The ends always justify the means for these Leftist ideologues!  From the BBC:

Millions of YouTube viewers have been captivated by the ‘Syrian hero boy’ who manages to rescue a little girl while under gunfire. Now a group of Norwegian filmmakers have told BBC Trending they are behind it. They say it was filmed on location in Malta this summer with the intention of being presented as real.

Lars Klevberg, a 34-year-old film director based in Oslo, wrote a script after watching news coverage of the conflict in Syria. He says he deliberately presented the film as reality in order to generate a discussion about children in conflict zones.

“If I could make a film and pretend it was real, people would share it and react with hope,” he said. “We shot it in Malta in May this year on a set that was used for other famous movies like Troy and Gladiator,” Klevberg said. “The little boy and girl are professional actors from Malta. The voices in the background are Syrian refugees living in Malta.

Were they comfortable making a film that potentially deceived millions of people? “I was not uncomfortable,” Klevberg said. “By publishing a clip that could appear to be authentic we hoped to take advantage of a tool that’s often used in war; make a video that claims to be real. We wanted to see if the film would get attention and spur debate, first and foremost about children and war. We also wanted to see how the media would respond to such a video.”

Read it all.

A lot is happening on that little dot in the Mediterranean Sea!

Now here comes the half-hearted apology and Human Rights Watch‘s anger.  From The Local:

The Norwegian filmmakers of ‘Syria Hero Boy’, a short movie that duped millions around the world into thinking it was shocking real-life footage, have apologized, it was reported on Sunday.

Many media commentators reacted angrily to the fact the mock-umentary style reportage belittles real journalism and war coverage. Charity organizations, such as Human Rights Watch, believe their work and intentions now faces unnecessary scrutiny by the negative consequences of the fake movie. [LOL! We always believed they needed scrutiny—ed]

Fred Abrahams of Human Right Watch said: “If their video achieved any short term purposes by directing the attention towards children in war, then it has become overshadowed by undermining people’s trust of professional reporting and consentious fact-based reporting of war crimes.”

The film’s producer John Einar Hagen said to AFP: “We stand by our good intentions, but we are also sorry if this is creating anger and if it makes documentation and reporting from war zones any more difficult.”

The video’s scriptwriter and director, Lars Klevberg, admitted on Saturday he deliberately made the mockumentary to generate debate about children in conflict zones.

Malta writer: no “illegal” migrants just “irregular” ones, and you are a racist if you don’t see that

This is your standard Leftist diatribe against anyone who dares question the wisdom of giving asylum to anyone in the world who reaches any country’s border.  I’m just mentioning it for two reasons—-one to show how they manipulate the language. “Irregular” migrants (funny! Ha! Ha!), and secondly because we have been a long-time observer of poor little Malta as a doorway (doormat!) to Europe (and America) for thousands of mostly Muslim ILLEGAL aliens coming from North Africa.

Assuming there isn’t more than one Alison Bezzina in Malta, she won an American prize for humorous writing in 2011—“Dr. Smith at your cervix.” http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20111021/life-features/timesofmalta-com-blogger-finalist-in-humour-writing-contest.390125

If you want to catch up on Malta, see our extensive archive here where you will see posts about how the US State Department is scooping up some of the illegals and bringing them to your towns and cities.

Here is Alison Bezzina at the Malta Independent apparently in response to some facebook postings that got rather strident.

I am totally convinced that people who comment so cruelly and negatively have never met anyone in Semihar’s [Eritrean mother of three who arrived illegally in Malta—ed] situation, at least not in person. To me, they are racists devoid of emotion, compassion or empathy. Sadly, most justify their racism and hatred by saying that they are not particularly against Africans but against people who enter the country illegally.

Conveniently, they fail to understand that asylum seekers and refugees such as Semihar are not in Malta illegally. They enter the country irregularly (not illegally) because they have no other way of doing so, but then, once they are recognised as genuine asylum seekers (and most are) they have as much right to be in Malta as you and I. Once they are out of detention, they are even given a Maltese ID card and are legally allowed to work because, shock horror, it is their right!  [Hey, here is a thought, maybe Alison could take Semihar and the kids to her home!—ed]

She rambles on and says a political candidate wasn’t raised to be a “decent” man by his parents, then makes some analogy to the Berlin Wall that isn’t immediately clear to me, and wraps up saying that the recent decision by the European Court of Human Rights (we posted here) could backfire and incentivize countries like Malta and Italy to let ‘asylum seekers’ move on to the interior of Europe.  With that last point I agree.  Malta and Italy are swamped already—thank the Court of Human Rights and open those detention centers and let them move on.  Germany might actually put them up in a 4-star hotel.

By the way, people like Ms. Bezzina think they can just throw the word “racist” around and everyone will run for cover.  It doesn’t work anymore!

Human rights court: Swiss cannot return Afghan family to Italy

Invasion of Europe continues….

European Court of Human Rights decision throws EU law out the window as far as I can tell! http://www.echr.coe.int/Pages/home.aspx?p=home

The European Union has a long-standing policy that asylum-seekers must be processed in the first country in which they arrive (and governments can send those back which go ‘asylum shopping’ and sneak into other countries), however, here the European Court of Human Rights basically throws the policy out the window.

Looks like it opens the door for an asylum-shopping spree.

Switzerland already has other large costly migrant families they would surely like to send back.

From the Times of Malta:

The Advice on Individual Rights in Europe, European Council on Refugees and Exiles and Amnesty International today welcomed a European Court of Human Rights’ judgement preventing the return of an asylum seeking family to Italy after making their way to Switzerland.

The organisations had intervened jointly with the assistance of lawyers from across Europe in the case of the Tarakhel family v Switzerland.

The Tarakhel family, an Afghan family with young children, made their way to Switzerland from Italy and claimed asylum there. The European Court of Human Rights held that returning the family to Italy without guarantees that they would benefit from appropriate conditions would violate human rights as enshrined in the European Convention of Human Rights.

The Court ruled that returning the family to Italy would breach the European Convention on Human Rights which prohibits inhuman and degrading treatment, if this were done without Switzerland having first obtained specific individual guarantees that the Italian authorities would take charge of the applicants in a manner adapted to the age of the children and that the family would be kept together.

The ECHR reiterated that before returning people under the Dublin Regulation, States had to obtain individual guarantees that the fundamental rights of asylum seekers would be respected. The Court ruled that safety in another European member state could not be assumed.

Looks like it throws out the whole Dublin Regulation to me.  But, of course the countries on the borders of Europe—Italy, Malta, Greece and Bulgaria—all must be cheering:  let’s just move them all on to another country!

UK will NOT join EU in plan to rescue migrants in Mediterranean Sea

‘Invasion of Europe’ news…..

They say that Italy’s huge effort (soon to end) to rescue the ‘boat people’ illegal migrants trying to reach Europe from North Africa has created a “pull factor.”  No kidding!

See news and a prediction at Blazing Cat Fur! http://www.blazingcatfur.ca/2014/10/28/uk-axes-support-for-mediterranean-invader-er-migrant-rescue-operation/

Having followed this issue for years, I never dreamed I would see the day when some European country would have the guts to tell this important truth!

And, remember American readers, we have created a “pull factor” by taking illegal migrants who reach Malta to the US as refugees!

From SBS.News:

Britain says it won’t join an EU program to help rescue refugees and migrants sailing across the Mediterranean, expressing sentiments that echo the policy on ‘maritime arrivals’ adopted in Australia.

[….]

Asked recently in the House of Lords what naval or air-sea rescue contribution the British government would make to the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean, foreign minister Baroness Anelay replied:

“We do not support planned search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean. We believe that they create an unintended ‘pull factor’, encouraging more migrants to attempt the dangerous sea crossing and thereby leading to more tragic and unnecessary deaths.”

The ‘humanitarian industrial complex’ has reacted with not-unexpected rage!

But refugee advocates have reacted with anger to the British government’s refusal to take part in future search operations in the Mediterranean.

“The British government seems oblivious to the fact that the world is in the grip of the greatest refugee crisis since the Second World War,” Maurice Wren, chief executive of British Refugee Council said in a statement.

So what is their answer—MORE legal immigration!

“The answer isn’t to build the walls of fortress Europe higher, it’s to provide more safe and legal channels for people to access protection.”

See our ‘invasion of Europe’ series here.  And, if you have time, see our seven years of stories about the mess we have created for Malta.  We took 531 of Malta’s illegal aliens to the US in FY2014!  (See that there were 434 cases and 531 individuals admitted, that means most were single adults.)

Some Somali young man who got on a boat in North Africa (probably Libya) is now being cared for with your tax dollars in your town.

US agrees to take MORE of Malta’s illegal aliens!

Why is this in our national interest?

This is insane!  Illegal aliens (mostly Somalis) arrive on the island nation of Malta and we transform them into legitimate refugees and fly them to America!

We have been following this perversion of the refugee program for years (longer than the 5 years mentioned in this short article—the Bush Administration started this!).  These illegal migrants are the European Union’s problem, not ours!

Will Europe reciprocate and take some of our illegal Mexicans—NO!

And, by doing this we actually encourage more illegals to try to get to Malta.

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil with US Department of State officials. WHO ARE THESE WOMEN REPRESENTING THE US STATE DEPT? Photo: Malta Today

From Malta Today:

The United States will continue resettling irregular immigrants who arrive in Malta within their nation. The news follows a meeting between Opposition leader Simon Busuttil and American Department of State officials.

“Every year, the US accepts around 70,000 refugees from around the world and for the past five years it has also started taking in 500 refugees a year from Malta.”

“With its gesture, the United States is acting as an example to other countries,” Busuttil said. “As Opposition, we hope that it’s a gesture that will encourage European countries to help lift the weight of immigration off Malta through a system that observes the dignity and rights of all the concerned people and countries.”

We have written more than 50 posts (extending back to 2007) on the US State Department’s outrageous departure from the norm of international refugee resettlement.  Can we now expect the US to take some of the illegal Muslim migrants from the UK, Italy, France etc?

Addendum:  Go here and see that we actually took 531 illegal aliens from Malta in the last 11 months. I suspect these are mostly single men.
