Yeonmi Park doesn’t call herself a refugee because she doesn’t believe in victimhood, but if anyone deserves to be a legitimate refugee, she fits the bill.
She is a defector from North Korea who is blowing the whistle on American universities, and America’s direction these days toward a political system she risked her life to escape as a young teen.
Frankly, she is risking her life again by speaking so forcefully against the educational system ruling America right now.
Before I read this story at Fox News this morning, I had plans to write something else. However, Park’s story contrasts so sharply with the post I wrote yesterday about a Somali refugee victim, a social justice warrior, who wants to turn America into Somalia, the hellhole country she supposedly escaped.
Honestly I fear for Park in the present climate where xenophobic and racist African Americans are attacking Asians on the streets most especially in New York City.
North Korean defector says ‘even North Korea was not this nuts’ after attending Ivy League school
As American educational institutions continue to be called into question, a North Korean defector fears the United States’ future “is as bleak as North Korea” after she attended one of the country’s most prestigious universities.
Yeonmi Park has experienced plenty of struggle and hardship, but she does not call herself a victim.
In her 2015 memoir “she described what it took to survive in one of the world’s most brutal dictatorships and the harrowing journey to freedom.”
One of several hundred North Korean defectors settled in the United States, Park, 27, transferred to Columbia University from a South Korean university in 2016 and was deeply disturbed by what she found.
“I expected that I was paying this fortune, all this time and energy, to learn how to think. But they are forcing you to think the way they want you to think,” Park said in an interview with Fox News. “I realized, wow, this is insane. I thought America was different but I saw so many similarities to what I saw in North Korea that I started worrying.”
Those similarities include anti-Western sentiment, collective guilt and suffocating political correctness.
Yeonmi saw red flags immediately upon arriving at the school.
During orientation, she was scolded by a university staff member for admitting she enjoyed classic literature such as Jane Austen.
“I said ‘I love those books.’ I thought it was a good thing,” recalled Park.
“Then she said, ‘Did you know those writers had a colonial mindset? They were racists and bigots and are subconsciously brainwashing you.’”

After getting into a number of arguments with professors and students, eventually Yeonmi “learned how to just shut up” in order to maintain a good GPA and graduate.

Having come to America with high hopes and expectations, Yeonmi expressed her disappointment.
“You guys have lost common sense to degree that I as a North Korean cannot even comprehend,” she said.
“Where are we going from here?” she wondered. “There’s no rule of law, no morality, nothing is good or bad anymore, it’s complete chaos.”
“I guess that’s what they want, to destroy every single thing and rebuild into a Communist paradise.”
….It is just a matter of time because out of control immigration is changing America.
Some towns and cities will change more rapidly than others, but with no brakes on an invasion from every quarter (including from the Refugee Admissions Program being accelerated by Joe Biden), you could be facing what the Coney Island area of Brooklyn is now facing.
I was shocked to see the videos of Muslim migrants, mostly Pakistanis, celebrating in an intimidating fashion the terrorist organization Hamas’ attack on Israel a few days ago.

Now that Donald Trump is no longer in office, Joe Biden to restore $235m in US aid to Palestinians. The Palestinian government no longer has to worry about losing hundreds of millions of dollars in handouts from the American government and can attack Israel without consequence. New York Jews Under Threat
Throughout New York City, Muslim migrants have been leading threatening demonstrations, attacking and intimidating Jews, and celebrating Hamas’ rocket attacks on innocent Israelis.
In the latest display of Islamic jubilation over the attacks by Hamas on Israelis, Muslims drove through the streets of Coney Island, New York, waving the Pakistani flag and honking their horns.
The celebration took place on Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, an area flooded with Pakistani immigrants since the ’80s. The area became informally known as “Little Pakistan” among residents. A once Jewish neighborhood has been converted to a home for followers of Islam.
Just last year, the Coney Island Avenue strip was officially co-named by the city as “Muhammad Ali Jinnah Way,” after the “founder” of Pakistan.
I continue to be amazed that Jews like Ed Shapiro and those running the refugee agency HIAS(formerly Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society)and its fellow liberal Jewish organizations persist in thinking that Muslim migration on steroids will not negatively affect them, their children and their grandchildren at some point.
Now, this will really get me in trouble: Are some Jewish people missing a gene that drives a survival instinct, or do they think that if they are so very very nice to Muslims they will win them over and Muslims worldwide will recognize their kindness and give up their multi-generational hatred for Jews?
But, gee no mention of the riots and crime having a thing to do with it?
I’m not crying for New York City and you likely aren’t either!
The Wall Street Journal is boo-hooing about the reduction in population on-going for NYC. Even the WSJ is into the Trump blame game.
Maybe the city can figure out how to get more African Americans in the workforce there.
Immigration to New York City Declines, Amplifying Economic Concerns
New York City’s economy depends on immigrants, but at a time when it needs all the help it can get, the flow of new residents from overseas is slowing.
Immigration to New York City dropped 45% between 2016 and 2019, with about 34,000 immigrants moving to the city last year compared with 62,000 in 2016, according to an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau population estimates by William Frey, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. City officials and immigration advocates say tighter federal immigration policies and delays in processing visa applications during the pandemic have reduced the flow of transplants.
Immigrants make up about 45% of the local workforce and own more than half of the city’s businesses, according to a 2019 report by the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs.
“I am worried that declining rates of international immigration will hurt not only future economic growth in New York City but the stability of New York City’s tax base,” said Michael Hendrix, director of state and local policy at the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank.
Immigration has traditionally offset the departure of New York City residents to other parts of the U.S., according to Frank Donnelly, a geospatial-data librarian at Baruch College. The recent slowdown in arrivals from other countries, however, contributed to an overall drop in the city’s population the last three years.

President Trump has restricted legal and illegal immigration since taking office, including banning travel from several Muslim-majority countries, reducing the number of refugees allowed to enter the country and imposing a public-charge rule that critics say will prevent immigrants from poor countries from moving to the U.S.
By the way, you should know that very few refugees have been placed in NYC for a very long time and that is primarily because the resettlement agencies couldn’t find enough cheap housing.
