Somali refugee is FBI most wanted terrorist; but what took the FBI so long to tell us?

Liban Haji Mohamed left the country that had given him the ‘good life’ to join the jihadists in Somalia in 2012.   Why are we just hearing about this now?

I’ve been away to speak about the Refugee Resettlement Program of the UN/US State Department and heard this news in my travels.  I’m glad to see that Leo Hohmann at World Net Daily was on the story yesterday.

From World Net Daily:

A Somali-American man who came to the United States as a refugee is now the FBI’s newest “Most Wanted Terrorist” after leaving for Somalia, and a former congresswoman is asking why a bill to prevent American jihadists from re-entering the country has not been acted upon.

Liban Haji Mohamed was driving a cab in the Washington DC area before leaving for jihad training in Africa.

Liban Haji Mohamed, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Somalia, is charged with providing material support and resources to both al-Qaida and al-Shabab, a Somalia-based terrorist organization. He is considered particularly dangerous because he worked to recruit other U.S. terrorists for al-Qaida and al-Shabab, the FBI said.

The Somali community in the United States numbers more than 110,000, with large populations in cities such as Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lewiston, Maine, San Diego, California, and Columbus, Ohio, among others where they have been resettled through the United Nations refugee program.

Mohamed, 29, lived in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C., and worked as a cab driver in the northern Virginia suburbs, the FBI said. He left the country on or about July 5, 2012, to join the ranks of al-Shabab’s jihadist fighters in Somali, according to a statement posted Jan. 29 on the FBI’s website.

Regarding that 110,000 number of Somalis in the US.  We expect the total number to be way above that.  110,000 is about how many the US State Department has admitted to the US in the last 3 decades (see our numbers here).   They are now coming to America and being distributed to your towns and cities at the rate of 9,000 plus a year.  In fact, just checking the numbers, we have admitted 2,801 Somalis into the US in only the first three months of FY2015.  If that rate continues we will be over 11,000 new Somalis this year!

Former Rep. Michele Bachmann (who I had the pleasure of meeting this weekend) told WND that the wannabe Jihadists are not stripped of their US passports!

Mohamed is traveling with a U.S. passport, which means he could try to re-enter the country at any time. His passport does not expire until May 20, 2018.

Former Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., introduced legislation last year to revoke the citizenship of any American caught leaving the country to fight for a foreign terrorist organization.

Bachmann’s bill was not even granted a hearing by House Republican leaders. Sen Ted Cruz, R-Texas, introduced a companion bill in the Senate, which was also ignored.

“I verified with U.S. law enforcement that the U.S. government does not necessarily prevent a known terrorist with a U.S. passport from re-entering the US after they have either supplied material support for terrorism or committed acts of terror themselves,” Bachmann told WND.

“Our refugee policy was introduced by the late Sen. Ted Kennedy and was supported by Vice President Biden while serving in the Senate,” she said. “In my view, this madness is indicative of a nation that has lost the will to survive.”

What took the FBI so long?  Sounds to me like Mohamed has had plenty of time in the last two years to be debriefed by the terrorists who want to know details about the Washington, DC area!

A federal warrant for Mohamed’s arrest was unsealed Jan. 29 by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Virginia. Besides adding Mohamed to the terrorist list and offering a reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction, the FBI is also publicizing the case on social media channels in Somalia and elsewhere to encourage people to come forward with information about the dangerous fugitive.

“It is important for us to locate Mohamed because he has knowledge of the Washington, D.C., area’s infrastructure such as shopping areas, Metro, airports and government buildings,” Ghattas explained. “This makes him an asset to his terrorist associates who might plot attacks on U.S. soil.”

Sec. of Homeland Security visits Somali “community” in Minneapolis, hears complaints

Says he wants help in identifying immigrants with bad intentions.  (Well, he didn’t exactly say that.)

In response, Somalis welcome federal help in keeping their youths from wanting to join the jihad, say they need more taxpayer funded stuff to keep them here.  (Well, not exactly in those words.)

Jeh Johnson with Somalis in Minneapolis. Somalis don’t want any airport profiling as they travel in and out of the US. http://www.kare11.com/story/news/local/2014/11/07/homeland-security-chief-johnson-somalis-luger-bihi-dube/18670865/

It seems pretty simple to me, don’t profile at airports as they leave the country, just let them leave and then strip them of their passports!

From Fox9 Minneapolis (emphasis is mine):

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) –

Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson was in the heart of Minnesota’s Somali community Friday to listen and let local leaders know they aren’t alone. He encouraged grassroots efforts to build safe, strong and proud neighborhoods, telling the Muslim community this is your America too.

“I want to encourage people to be participants in our public safety, in our homeland security.” Johnson said. “This is your country too.”

Johnson talked about several hot button issues, insisting he is focused on community engagement.

“Muslims are always being targeted because they happen to be Muslims,” Abdirahman Mukhtar, with Pillsbury United Communities said.

The secretary’s agenda includes racial profiling and the extremist recruitment of young Muslims to fight in wars overseas.

“This is an exercise in trust,” Johnson said.

The secretary explained that efforts to block the pipeline that is sending potential fighters from the Twin Cities to far off places like Somalia and Syria starts on the ground in neighborhoods like Minneapolis’ cedar-riverside.

The message from the White House is the federal government needs help.

“If you see somebody who may be headed in the direction of violence, someone disaffected, angry in some way, help us to help you in the community,” Johnson said. “I don’t consider that snitching.”

“We are very happy that we are getting the right attention,” Abdirizak Bihi, a Somali community leader said.

Somali community leaders welcomed the cabinet level visit that included meetings and roundtable discussions with law enforcement and other stakeholders.  [‘Stakeholders’ never include those critical of the government—ed]

The hope is that Washington gets the message that there are problems on the ground here that need addressing to keep young immigrants from becoming disillusioned and influenced by terrorist organizations.

They need more job training, education, and nice places to live (and for you to pay for it!).

“There’s no employment opportunities, no job training, college readiness, the achievement gap,” Amano Dube with Pillsbury United Communities said. “They don’t have an appropriate place to live.”

And, LOL! don’t you dare profile them at airports as they try to get to Somalia or to the Middle East to join ISIS!  It continues to be a great mystery to me why so many “persecuted” Somalis are always flying back and forth to Somalia and East Africa.  How persecuted could they be?

BTW, more Somalis are arriving in Minneapolis every day thanks to the US State Department and its contractors.

Aurora, CO: (another) whiny story, this time about Somali girls who wanted to join ISIS

Are you as sick to death of stories like this one as I am where we hear about disenfranchised Somali youths who have to be saved from leaving the good life in America to join Jihadists somewhere in the world.

Somali community organizer, Ahmed Odowaay: my ten-year-old daughter is called a “terrorist.” (AP Photo/Brennan Linsley)

Think of the amount of resources (tax payer dollars) going into the FBI outreach to the “Somali community” in Colorado right now in hopes of thwarting the next wannabe ISIS member.

And, in addition we get one more public relations opportunity for the “Somali community” to put on their victimhood act.

I say, let them go, but revoke their passports and don’t let them back into America to potentially hurt someone here.

What benefit will these angry (dumb!) Somali girls be to America?

See the ‘Girls jihadi quest stirs muslim communities fear‘ AP story at US News and World Report:

AURORA, Colo. (AP) — The strange journey of three suburban Denver girls who authorities say tried to join Islamic State militants in Syria has many in their close-knit east African community worried about whether their own children will be the next to be lured to terror.

The girls’ voyage has mystified many in the U.S., and has been even more troubling among Aurora’s Somali and Sudanese immigrants, thousands of whom fled civil war and forged new lives in the Denver suburbs, where refugees easily find jobs driving cabs or working in the meat industry.*** [LOL! it just occurred to me that these Somalis may be in Aurora thanks to the premier federal refugee contractor and supplier of cheap immigrant labor for the meat packing industry in Colorado—Lutheran Family Services I just wrote about yesterday.—ed]

But while the girls’ parents were working to give them a better life, being a Muslim teenager isn’t easy in an American high school, said Ahmed Odowaay, a community advocate who works with youth. It’s easy to feel like an outsider, even as a U.S. citizen.

Even his 10-year-old daughter gets taunts of “terrorist” when she wears her hijab in school, he said.  [how do we know this is true?—ed]

Read it all, here.

***I hope some day to find out exactly how BIG MEAT works with the refugee contractors and the US State Department to get their immigrant (refugee) laborers. Is it an overt deal between the feds and the meat industry or more of a wink and a nod?  In 2008, we did find direct evidence of the role played by the Clinton Administration in bringing in Bosnian (Muslim) ‘refugee’ labor for the Iowa meat packers, here, but I would like to find something more recent.

Portland, OR: Somali Christmas tree bomber to be sentenced today

Update:  Sentenced to 30 years, here.

The government wants 40 years.  It isn’t just Minneapolis producing Somali terrorists!  They must not have enough “programs” in Portland either.

http://21stcenturywire.com/2014/01/14/christmas-tree-bomber-could-mount-a-constitutional-challenge-to-nsa-program/

From Oregon Live:

Nearly four years have passed since then 19-year-old Mohamed Osman Mohamud dialed the numbers on a cell phone to set off what he thought was a massive bomb at Portland’s annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony.

He expected thousands of those gathered to celebrate at Pioneer Courthouse Square to die and be injured. Instead, he was arrested. The “bomb” was a harmless fake and the Al-Qaida operatives who helped him plan the attack were undercover FBI agents.

Today, a federal judge is to hand down his sentence in a hearing that begins at 10 a.m. at the Mark O. Hatfield courthouse. While the government is seeking a minimum of 40 years in prison, Mohamud’s lawyers are asking for 10. It is up to Senior U.S. District Judge Garr King’s discretion to choose a sentence of up to life in prison.

For new readers, go here for all of our coverage of the Somali refugee bomb plot case in Portland.

And remember!  As of August 31st (11 months into the 2014 fiscal year) we have allowed 8,278 more Somalis into the US through refugee resettlement.

Minnesota Somalis attempt to explain why their community is so attractive to terror recruiters

Update: It isn’t just Somalis in Minnesota, but apparently UK Somalis don’t feel they have enough taxpayer-funded goodies either as two teenaged Somali girls run off to join ISIS.

Powerline blog titles its post—Somalis say: Show us the Money—and then blogger Scott Johnson analyzed a couple of recent news articles where local Somali leaders say they need more night basketball.  Just kidding on the basketball thing, but do your remember Clinton pushing taxpayer funded basketball as a way to solve the crime crisis in black communities—in other words it was all about stuff, about more “programs”.

Somali activist Ilhan Omar: Officials must invest in anti-recruitment programs for Somali youths. We told you about community organizer Omar back in February. https://refugeeresettlementwatch.org/2014/02/19/somalis-want-to-govern-minneapolis-but-is-this-how-to-gain-the-confidence-of-the-electorate/

They don’t have enough to entertain the youths so the youths take up with Al-Shabaab or ISIS to while away the time.

Here is how Johnson begins his post and suggests maybe we should put a halt to all Somali immigration (refugee resettlement which is how most are getting in here).   Johnson is just thinking too logically!

We’ve got a problem in the Twin Cities that is based in our large and still growing population of Somali immigrants. Somalis have been immigrating to Minnesota for more than twenty years now. They have taken advantage of all the services that our state and local institutions offer. They have been welcomed with open arms, in Minnesota’s characteristic style.

Yet Minnesota’s Somali community — a/k/a “Minnesotans” — is the most fertile ground in the United States for the recruitment of terrorists by foreign terrorist organizations in Africa and the Middle East. We are concerned that they may choose to return “home” to Minnesota if they don’t get killed first. What is to be done?

Aside from monitoring imams and mosques, the first thought that occurs to me is freezing Somali immigration to the United States. I think this would give us the opportunity to get a handle on the problem while assuring that we don’t needlessly aggravate it.

[….]

In short, I take it from the two articles devoted to the forum that we don’t have a clue and that nothing useful is going to be done.

Read it all.   I am so glad to see that other bloggers and the media in general are beginning to report on this lunacy.

Of course the US State Department did slow the flow of Somalis to America back in 2008 when they discovered that tens of thousands got in here fraudulently, but the resettlement now is going full steam ahead.  The feds and the contractors have too much money at stake in the resettlement process, not to mention the fact that they are cowards!

As of August 31st (11 months into the 2014 fiscal year) we have allowed 8,278 Somalis into the US through refugee resettlement.  That is approaching the large numbers we saw in three consecutive years under George W. Bush, here.

Minnesota got 977 of the 8,278 Somalis resettled in 11 months of fy2014 (here).
