News from Spartanburg, SC, a "Pocket of Resistance"

This is one more in our new series of posts on what concerned citizens are doing to resist the colonization of their towns and cities by the UN/US State Department using impoverished third worlders (all part of the Obama Administration plan to “seed” your community with ethnic and economic diversity).
We will be bringing to you as many of these stories as we can so that you may find inspiration and support for what you are doing in your state.

Dr. Christina Jeffrey

For new readers, Spartanburg, SC residents learned in early spring that their town was targeted by one of the nine major federal contractors, in this case World Relief (Evangelicals), to begin receiving refugees this fiscal year (FY 2015 ends Sept. 30, 2015).  To catch up, go here to our first post (with updates).
Rep. Trey Gowdy represents the district and is Chairman of the all-important House Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security.  Gowdy should have called for hearings on the program weeks ago!

Get the facts!

Sounds boring, but one of the first steps for those of you questioning a new resettlement site or an existing one is to gather your facts and get those facts to the general public.
The US Refugee Admissions Program, as we have chronicled for the last 8 years, is largely a secretive program.  Why? Because once taxpaying citizens understand how it works and what it costs, they usually reject the whole scheme.
So here is Dr. Christina Jeffrey announcing the release of a document and fact sheet that she and her group have prepared for South Carolina citizens (really all of you across the country).  Emphasis is mine:

One of the biggest threats today to U.S. sovereignty is mass immigration. While we were focused on illegal immigration, massive legal immigration was increasing wildly under the radar. I was not aware of the huge pressure being brought to bear by various programs that have been bringing in tens of thousands of immigrants/permanent residents every year.

This year, Spartanburg was chosen to be the one hundred and ninety-first “welcoming city.” I had to do some homework to find out what that meant.

I learned that our new neighbors were being selected for us by a program called Refugee Resettlement, one of the largest legal immigration programs. It is run by the State Department in cooperation with the United Nations. To give you a quick overview of the program, I have prepared a 10 point fact sheet.

The fact sheet is a good place to start, but not enough. Some friends and neighbors, good writers and researchers, came together to research and write about the Refugee Resettlement Program. The material is carefully sourced with live links that should allow you to instantly read primary documents like the President’s April 15 report on “Welcoming New Americans.”

We call our local “pocket of resistance,” The Shoemaker Guild.

This report will enable you to approach your elected officials with good, “take it to the bank” information. Please feel free to share widely.

God bless you and God bless America.

Comment worth noting: Spartanburg resident answers critic, says American citizens should come first

Editor:  From time to time we publish good comments prominently because I am not sure many of you see the comments to individual posts.  Here a reader from Spartanburg, SC answers another reader, Ralph from Atlanta, who says that compassion for poor third-world refugees should drive our legal immigration policy.    See the original comments here at one of our top posts of the week: Stick’in it to Rep. Trey Gowdy, US State Department contractor World Relief brings first refugees to Spartanburg.
From ‘7delta’ (emphasis is mine):

Spartanburg is not anti-immigrant or anti-Muslim. Neither are we indifferent to the suffering of people anywhere in the world, especially not to our own “least of these.” For this reason, we are pro-wise and controlled immigration. We are not seeing either anywhere within the federal framework and have not seen it since 1965.

“The federal government has no authority to be politically correct or to manipulate its people for political gain or to seek “integration” or “diversity” for its own sake.”

In fact, poor immigration policies and federal neglect to do its Constitutional duty has accelerated and exacerbated the problems of our economy, our own vulnerable citizenry and our precarious national security situation. The citizens are morally, Constitutionally and legally the central government’s primary concern. The central government exists for one reason only and that’s to protect us, our rights, our borders and our sovereignty. Their job is to maintain “domestic tranquility” and provide equal justice. We created the central government–“governments are instituted among men”. They did not create the states or us. We preexist it. It has no moral agency to provide mercy, even though laws can at times provide mercy. The administration of mercy belongs solely to the individual. The churches and all these resettlement agencies are responsible for providing their own funds according to what they are willing or are able to bear. The federal government has no moral or Constitutional authority to provide one dime to resettlement once the refugees pass through the gates of its Constitutional authority to regulate immigration and naturalization.

My problem is that the federal government has nothing it did not obtain from the citizens. It can only obligate its citizens to bear the burdens and to suffer the consequences that result from foolish schemes. Yes, the fiscal and social burdens the federal government is saddling us with matters, but as important as that is, it’s the moral and legal issues that are most concerning. The federal government is not providing equal justice. In fact, the immigration policies, or lack thereof, are horribly unfair and unequal. Its negligent in its duty to enforce its own laws and to uphold its primary reason for existence. The law hasn’t failed. Our public servants have.

What do you think caused Ferguson and Baltimore? Racism? Bad policing? Look deeper. What segment of our society is suffering most from unfair competition for limited jobs and opportunity? Who has been primarily displaced by massive numbers of foreign low-skill workers? Of course, there are other issues involved, but one of the main underlying problems is decades of immigration policy that favors immigrants, both legal and illegal, over our own citizens. Layers of bogus “help” programs and layers of narrative have been thrown over the real issues. These tactics are nothing but cover for political gain. Both parties. The bottom line is the federal government’s failure to uphold its moral and Constitutional mandate to protect its own citizens.

So what is wise immigration? It’s immigration that never harms or risks its own citizens in any way. It’s limited and selective. Next it chooses immigrants/refugees that are best suited to assimilate within its jurisdiction and in numbers small enough to not cause harm. The federal government has no authority to be politically correct or to manipulate its people for political gain or to seek “integration” or “diversity” for its own sake. It is to apply equal justice in everything it does, starting with its citizens. Nature will take care of the rest.

As kind as it may seem to bring in millions of illegal and legal immigrants, it’s anything but kind. It encourages illegal behavior and encourages subterfuge from people who should never have been allowed into this country. The wise policy would be to aid refugees overseas in areas close to their home so they can return when conflicts are resolved. The federal government has no right to take over the responsibilities of their home government or to place them on us. Our goal should be to help bring peaceful resolution to their conflicts and help the refugees go home. If peaceful resolution is not possible, then we aid the refugees where they are until they work out their internal problems.

We cannot save the world and if we’re to be an example, then we need to stand on solid principles, ensure equal justice and be certain aid money is not lining foreign or domestic politicians’, agencies or UN pockets, but is going to where it’s needed. Muslim countries must step up to their responsibilities. The sooner they do, the sooner the conflicts end. We cannot solve their problems for them. We can only guide with morals and principles. We help no one, here or abroad, by taking in hundreds of thousands of people who would rather go home and should.

The sooner the federal government does the right thing, the sooner people like you wrote about will get out of camps and back to their homes. If they still want to immigrate here, great…equal application of the law works when used. The world should be pressuring Muslim nations to fix their own house, not trying to take their responsibilities off their hands. That is immoral.

We welcome immigrants that come here to be Americans. We welcome people of character, like the people you wrote about, but diversity for the sake of diversity is conflict. Diversity within the shared framework of common values and principles enhances our culture. Cultures and beliefs built on rejection of our culture and values does not. People must come here because they want to assimilate, to be Americans. I wouldn’t go to Saudi Arabia and demand they adapt to me. I have every right to expect the same from foreigners entering my country and every right to expect my central government to ensure that’s the case with every immigrant allowed into its jurisdiction.

We have the right and the moral imperative to hold our central government responsible for its duties. Compassion not based in morals and principles is not compassion at all. It’s manipulative. Our responsibility is to first stand in the gap for vulnerable Americans, then to provide principled aid to the needy overseas so they can go home. We can do both.

Thanks ‘7delta’ for this clear, articulate response to the “compassion” argument.  I’m too impatient to be good at writing like this (in addition to not being able to write this well no matter what!).
Hey, I have an idea, maybe ‘7delta’ should write the opening statement for hearings that Rep. Trey Gowdy should hold in his subcommittee that is responsible for the Refugee Admissions Program of the federal government.

Stickin'-it to Rep. Trey Gowdy, US State Dept. contractor World Relief brings first refugees to Spartanburg

Update June 6th: World Net Daily wrote about this yesterday, here.  Also, be sure to see the exchange of comments to this post which we highlight here.
It is not really World Relief so much as the Obama State Department and Secretary of State John Kerry.  Gowdy had asked that no refugees be resettled in his district until his many questions had been answered to his satisfaction.   See our post yesterday about the inadequate response Gowdy has received so far.

Resettlement of refugees from DR Congo well underway. https://refugeeresettlementwatch.org/2015/03/04/us-resettlement-of-tens-of-thousands-of-un-chosen-congolese-refugees-well-underway/

The refugees from DR Congo*** resettled in Spartanburg apparently about a week or so ago could just as easily have been taken to any one of 190 (more!) cities in the US, but clearly the State Department is sending a message to Gowdy—(expletive you!).

As we said previously, Spartanburg is pivotal in the battle for determining who controls the resettlement process—will the UN/US State Department ram third-worlders down the throats of small town America, or will cities and states play any role in the present secretive resettlement process?

Just a reminder!  Rep. Trey Gowdy is not just any Congressman with concern for his district, he is Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee responsible for the refugee program!

If anyone has any power in Congress on this issue, it is Gowdy.  The question is, is he willing to exercise his power?

Here is the latest from GoUpstate.

In this pivotal showdown, score one for Secretary of State John Kerry!

Spartanburg churches are welcoming refugees who recently arrived here.

Jason Lee, director of World Relief Spartanburg, said two refugees from the Congo arrived in Spartanburg in late May. He would not provide a specific date, citing security reasons. He pointed out that they are persecuted.

Meanwhile, Rep. Trey Gowdy called the U.S. State Department’s response to his latest questions about a resettlement agency’s plan to sponsor refugees in Spartanburg “sorely inadequate.”

Gowdy has invited the federal agency to brief elected officials on the refugee resettlement.

The Republican congressman issued a statement Wednesday after receiving the State Department’s response.

Gowdy has written the federal agency twice to obtain details about plans to sponsor refugees in Spartanburg. World Relief, a faith-based refugee resettlement agency, opened a Spartanburg office earlier this year. The state Department of Social Services approved Spartanburg as a new refugee resettlement site, according to the State Department’s response.

World Relief Spartanburg has been authorized to resettle up to 60 refugees in the 2015 fiscal year.  [FY2015 ends on September 30, 2015, so they should be coming in pretty quickly now—ed]

There is a lot more, continue reading here.

Here is my question:  Is the US State Department getting even with Gowdy over Benghazi?

***The Congolese

Asst. Secretary of State for Population Refugees and Migration: We will take most of the 50,000 from DR Congo that the UN wants us to take!

We are assuming that Jason Lee is referring to refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), a poor corrupt country in central Africa, and not simply the Congo.
In 2013 Asst. Secretary of State Anne Richard reported that the UN wants 50,000 from the DR Congo resettled over the next few years and that we will take most of them.
If you visit the State Department’s data base, here, we have admitted only 34 refugees from the Congo this fiscal year, but 2,921 this fiscal year so far from DR Congo.  So again, we assume Spartansburg’s new American “seedlings” are from DR Congo.
The majority from the DR Congo are not Muslims although a few are as we reported here.
A large number from DR Congo are abused women and children.  We learned, here, that many of the women need extensive mental health care due to the abuse they have suffered.
By the way, the UN is always in a hurry to clean out its camps and send refugees to the first world rather than waiting out conflicts and then returning refugees to their homes or to countries with a similar culture.  However, in the irony of ironies, they are not in any hurry to resettle Palestinians (that is good for us!) leaving them in ‘camps’ on the border of Israel in order to harass that country for the last 6 decades.

What are those "highest level of security checks" refugees are subject to?

We don’t know and we have never been told!

But, don’t you think it’s about time that the US Department of Homeland Security and the US State Department let the public know!
We are expected to have faith that the State Department (with the enthusiastic approval of the 14 members of the Senate Jihad Caucus) can bring in 65,000 Syrians and we’ll be just fine—no wannabe jihadists among them now? No children will grow up to be jihadists (like the Somalis)?

Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, one of 14 Senators (Senate Jihad Caucus!) who sent a letter to Obama recently asking for the Administration to admit 65,000 Syrian refugees to the US ASAP! Can Senator Kaine guarantee our security? https://refugeeresettlementwatch.org/2015/05/22/14-us-senators-tell-obama-bring-more-syrians-to-america-65000-is-a-good-number/

That is the issue that jumped out at me when Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) got his second communication from the US State Department to his second inquiry about what was going on in his district.
Once again Leo Hohmann of World Net Daily is on top of the story.  He begins here with some background.  Emphasis is mine:

Republican Congressman Trey Gowdy’s efforts to shed light on the government’s secretive refugee resettlement program continues to play out in letters between himself and the federal agency responsible for resettling thousands of foreign refugees in U.S. cities and towns every year.

Since his letters haven’t produced many answers, he’s now calling for a meeting with State Department officials.

Gowdy, R-S.C., started asking questions in April about how refugees are distributed to various cities, the impact on local job markets and public services, and who makes the key decisions, among other points of interest. His questions came after it was revealed that Spartanburg, a city in his home district, was selected to receive 60 to 65 refugees over the next year, mostly from Syria. Unable to answer all of the questions posed by some nervous constituents, Gowdy fired off letters to Secretary of State John Kerry.

After getting a response from Kerry that he said was “wholly inadequate” and “vague,” he demanded more specifics on May 4. On Wednesday, he received a second response, which he called a “non-response.”

The State Department secretly selected Spartanburg sometime last year to be one of its designated “receiving communities” for Syrian refugees, 92 percent of whom to date have been Muslim people that the FBI has said will be virtually impossible to safely screen for terrorist connections.

South Carolina’s Gov. Nikki Haley’s refugee coordinator then quietly approved the Spartanburg resettlement in December – again with no public input or notice.

Details of “security checks” are “classified!”  And, we are supposed to take it as an article of faith from Obama’s State Department that we will be kept safe!

It is time for us to be told the details of how the security screening is accomplished and not just with the Syrians, but also with the Somalis!
The truth is that some Somali young man shows up in a boat on Malta or in Malaysia and we accept who he says he is and bring him to the US as a refugee.  There cannot possibly be any high level security check!  If there is, then tell us how it is done!
Hohmann continues:

“As noted in our previous correspondence, all refugees … are subject to the highest level of security checks of any category of traveler to the United States,” states the latest letter to Gowdy, dated June 1. “The specific details of these checks are classified.”

FBI terrorism expert Michael Steinbach, assistant director of the agency’s counter-terrorism unit, has said that screening refugees from a “failed state” like Syria is beyond the capability of U.S. intelligence because the U.S. has no military presence in Syria and does not have access to reliable police or intelligence records. Steinbach testified publicly to this fact at a Feb. 11 hearing before the House Homeland Security committee.

Yet, the State Department continues to tell congressmen and the public that refugees are rigorously screened. The contradicting statements from the FBI and the State Department continue to trouble those in Spartanburg and elsewhere who have been pushing back against a refugee program they see as secretive and unaccountable to anyone, and the government hides details by working through a maze of private nonprofit “contractors.”

There is much more, read on here!
LOL! And, on this accountability issue, notice (in the latest State Department letter) that the US State Department is shifting responsibility to World Relief Spartanburg leader Jason Lee.
For new readers wishing to catch up on the Spartanburg/Rep Trey Gowdy issue, go to our first post on the controversy, here, in March.  We have been updating it regularly.

Mr. Open Borders himself, Jeb Bush, met with 'evangelicals' promoting refugee resettlement for Spartanburg, SC

Again, Leo Hohmann writing at World Net Daily reveals how even Republicans like former Gov. Jeb Bush are on the bandwagon to bring in more immigrants and refugees—is this for his big business donors’ desire for cheap labor?
What makes me so annoyed is to see  politicians, like Bush, co-opting a certain segment of the ‘evangelical’ community and making it sound like it is all about ‘welcoming the stranger’ rather than about the almighty dollar!

Let’s make Jeb an impossible!

For background, see our original post on Spartanburg/World Relief and Jason Lee here with updates.
This is how Hohmann’s article from last night begins (emphasis is mine):

A group of pastors met with presidential hopeful Jeb Bush earlier this month in South Carolina to try to get a feel for his candidacy.

Bush described the importance of his faith, saying he reads the Bible daily, and he shared his views on hot-button issues at the May 2 meeting in Spartanburg. The pastors’ ears perked up when the former Florida governor, who converted to Catholicism after marrying a Mexican woman, talked about immigration and refugees.

Bush’s history on this issue is consistent:

* In 2009, Bush sent a letter to Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis advocating an immigration plan developed by the Council on Foreign Relations. That report included in its recommendations an earned pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

* In February 2014 Bush was one of 10 national Republicans who signed a statement calling for the U.S. to import more refugees. Bush was joined in signing the document by Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform and a known supporter of Muslim Brotherhood front groups.

One of the pastors listening to Bush on May 2 in Spartanburg was Jason Lee, a local pastor who was tapped to be director of the new Spartanburg office of World Relief, which is a major player in the refugee resettlement business.

World Relief plans to bring in 60 refugees from Syria and Africa over the next year. The announcement that Muslim refugees would be arriving soon in this small Southern city brought no small measure of controversy, splitting the Christian community in half. Some want to welcome the refugees while others think the city already has enough poverty, unemployment and homeless veterans that need their attention.

The controversy has led to a proposed provision being added in the state budget that would require counties to sign off on plans for refugees before any funds could be released for their resettlement. The proposal has passed the state House but remains fluid in the Senate.

“This proviso would stop the resettlements in Spartanburg for at least a year because World Relief is not going to bring refugees here if they can’t sign them up for all the welfare benefits that flow through the state, because the churches do not support this program financially,” said Christina Jeffrey, a local Christian activist who comes down on the opposite side of the issue from Jason Lee.

“The people are very confused on this,” she said. “They think the churches support it with their own money.”

Lee said he was impressed by what he heard from Bush. In a twist of irony, the former Republican governor’s views on immigrants and refugees mesh with South Carolina’s religious left, more than the religious right.
