AP: Syrian processing to America on steroids, governors like MD Gov. Hogan can't do a thing about it

No Syrian Muslims have been placed in Washington DC!

There isn’t much new and useful in this AP story from Saturday, but wanted to mention it only because once again the feds are telling concerned governors to go fly a kite—the UN/US State Dept. is speeding up the Syrian refugee processing in Jordan and Turkey. Governors are impotent to stop it is the message.

Simon henshaw 3
Remember Simon Henshaw as the State Department official charged with assuring you that Syrians they admit are all good and decent people (like the sexual deviant arrested in Massachusetts last week?) Henshaw’s bio is here: http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/biog/bureau/213334.htm

There is a little nugget here that I didn’t know about: Apparently the DEMOCRAT mayor of Roanoke, VA did not want Syrians resettled in an already refugee-overloaded city.
We’ve written a few times about Roanoke perhaps most famous for the refugee gang found guilty there for planning to kidnap and ransom some prominent women in the town, here in 2009.  (Gee, I wonder if they were deported when they were released after their short prison sentence?)
Associated Press (at the Washington Post):

Dozens of Syrian refugees were settled in Maryland and Virginia in June, part of a sharp nationwide increase as the U.S. government scrambles to meet its goal of admitting 10,000 refugees in fiscal 2016.

The surge has come despite opposition from more than half of the nation’s governors, including Maryland’s Larry Hogan (R), all of whom say they are not satisfied with the federal government’s assurances that refugees are carefully vetted and screened.

[…..]

The pace of refugee resettlement has quickened in part because processing facilities in Istanbul and in Amman, Jordan, have been upgraded and more Department of Homeland Security teams have been deployed to interview refugees, a State Department official said.

“We pushed all those things together so they would happen sequentially and more quickly,” said Simon Henshaw, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.

In Maryland, 78 Syrians were settled in June – bringing the total to 115 since October. Sixty-seven arrived in Virginia last month, out of 87 resettled in the state this year. Fifteen of them have been placed in Roanoke, where the Democratic mayor attracted national controversy last fall for citing the internment of Japanese citizens as a reason to bar Syrian refugees.

No refugees have been brought to the District of Columbia, according to the State Department data. [No, of course not!—ed]

Photo: My reference to the Syrian charged with sexual assault refers to this story.  And, here, Breitbart has Pamela Geller’s reaction to the latest refugee sex crime.
Regarding my title! In truth, Gov. Hogan and other of the governors concerned about the program could do something about it if they had the political will, but most don’t.  It is easy to say they don’t like what is happening to satisfy voters, but quite another to put on the state’s rights fight that would be necessary.

Massachusetts: 22-year-old Syrian refugee arrested for "touching" 13-year-old in public pool

Oh gee, one more “story” that doesn’t fit the Left’s narrative about refugees! (The Hive needs to get busy!)

You knew it had to happen sooner or later—a 22-year-old Syrian refugee has been arrested for making sexual advances to a young girl at a public swimming pool.  She reportedly told him she was just a kid, so leave me alone.
From the Lowell Sun (hat tip: Joanne):

LOWELL — A 22-year-old Syrian refugee is behind bars after only two months in the United States after he was accused Thursday night of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl at a state-run swimming pool in Lowell.

Emad Hasso

In Lowell District Court on Friday, Emad Hasso, of Lowell, was ordered held on $25,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty via an interpreter to one count of indecent assault and battery on someone under 16.

Judge Stacy Fortes set the bail over the defense attorney’s objections, because Hasso’s only ties to this country are his family members with whom he lives.

Prosecutor Sam Miller said that around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, the 13-year-old Lowell girl was at the Raymond Lord Memorial Pool at the North Common Park in Lowell when she said a man approached her, touched her upper thigh and asked her age.

Hey Rutland, VT, and Reno, NV! He was likely resettled by the same federal contractor, US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (the federal contractor in Lowell), wanting a toe-hold in your towns. USCRI is in charge of Twin Falls, Idaho too!
What are the odds that this guy is going to become an upstanding American citizen?
An afterthought: So is this the contractor’s fault for not telling their new charges that this sort of behavior is illegal in America? I think it is!

The system is rigged against Christian Syrians; UN chooses Sunni Muslims for US

We have told you about a zillion times that the United Nations is now choosing the majority of refugees admitted to the US and here is one more confirmation of that (if we needed it!).

Fillipo Grandi
Do you know who this is? This is Filippo Grandi, an Italian, the new UN High Commissioner for Refugees and he is deciding who will live in your towns! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filippo_Grandi

Patrick Goodenough, a reporter at CNS News, tells us every month what the stats look like for the number of Syrians entering the US and what their ‘religious’ persuasion is and here is his June update which includes these few paragraphs well into the report.

Sunnis make up the vast majority of the refugees admitted to date – 5,099 (98.3 percent) of the 5,186.

The proportion of Syrian refugees admitted this year who are Christians – 0.38 percent – is much smaller than the roughly 10 percent of pre-war Syrians who were Christian.

Refugee advocacy groups say this anomaly is at least partly the result of the fact Christians among the fleeing Syrians are loathe to enter U.N. camps in surrounding countries for fear of their safety – something the U.N. refugee agency itself concedes is happening.

Because the U.N. refers applicants at the beginning of the process of seeking refugee status in the U.S., this may mean fewer Christians are referred in the first place.

[….]

Christians, Yazidis and Shi’a have been specifically targeted by the Sunni jihadists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL), in what the U.S. government has determined is a campaign of genocide.

So, we are taking the Sunni persecutors in to the US (makes sense! NOT!).
More here and see their excellent graph.

There is nothing in refugee law to stop the US State Department from seeking out Syrian Christians/minorities. It is simply that we are now being led by the nose by the United Nations!  (which we largely support with your money!)

If Syrians safely go home (to Syria!) today for EID, are they still legitimate refugees?

The answer of course is NO!  Legitimate refugees are people escaping persecution of one sort or another. Economic migrants and even people staying out of war zones are NOT real refugees!

syrian border
If Syrians move back and forth across Turkish/Syrian borders, are they really persecuted refugees fearing for their lives?

I’ve been remiss in not reporting this fantastic essay by two former US asylum judges in which they define very carefully the definition of a refugee (or legitimate asylum seeker)—a definition that we believe has been intentionally perverted so that anyone in the world on-the-move is considered a refugee.
Serious students of the Refugee Admissions Program must read ‘Blurred lines: Migrant vs. Refugee’ by the Hon. Mahlon F. Hanson and Hon. Elizabeth A. Hacker posted last month at the Immigration Reform Law Institute. (Hat tip: Joanne)
Then ask yourselves, if Syrians “return home” to Syria for the holidays are they truly refugees? Or, are they economic migrants using the conflict as an excuse to move up in the world (at your expense!).
From TRT World:

Thousands of Syrian refugees in Turkey are returning home to Syria to mark the Islamic festival of Eid al Fitr which commences Tuesday.

Turkey temporarily relaxed controls at the Cilvegozu border crossing in its south-eastern province of Hatay last week, allowing Syrians with foreigner cards—those issued to refugees—to pass into northern Aleppo.

The border will remain open till 5pm local time on July 5, the start of the three-day holiday. Syrians returning to Turkey are obliged to do so before July 8 or face being barred from the country.

Turkey regularly opens the border to allow Syrians to return home for Eid holidays.

Why does the political Left and open borders aficionados on both the Left and Right want everyone to be a REFUGEE?
First because refugees are eligible for all sorts of welfare/services.  They  are free to work in the country in which they have landed, they can bring in the extended family, and they will ultimately become citizens of the countries in which the UN places them.  Why the political Right doesn’t see that they will ultimately vote the R’s (in America, in Europe the Right gets it) out of office is beyond me.  But, it seems that the Republican supporters of Open Borders see the dollar signs as the refugees are ready cheap labor for their big donors and the R’s get to wear the white hat of humanitarianism as an added bonus!
Of course there are surely larger forces than some on the American Right and Left driving the No Borders movement worldwide, but who or what is doing that is beyond my understanding!

Obama more than halfway to goal of 10,000 Syrian Muslims brought to US this year, Michigan tops the list

Obama announced last fall that in FY2016, the US would “welcome” 10,000 Syrian ‘refugees’ to states across America. As of June 30th (9 months into the fiscal year) 5,186 have been distributed so far.

Snyder and obama
In May of 2014 we reported that Michigan Governor Rick Snyder wanted to invite 50,000 refugees to the state. Guess he is on his way to getting them. https://refugeeresettlementwatch.org/2015/05/18/lets-not-bring-50000-syrians-to-detroit-it-is-a-dumb-idea/

Lots of news outlets are reporting the numbers, here is just one story from Breitbart yesterday (confirming what we have previously reported that 99% of them are Muslims):

The United States’ federal government has imported a record number of Syrian refugees in June – more than 2,300 – of whom 99 percent are Sunni Muslim and just eight identify as Christian.

The record number admitted to the country last month brings the total number of Syrian refugees accepted during the fiscal year above the 5,000 mark and puts the government on a trajectory to surpass President Barack Obama’s stated goal of 10,000 refugees by the end of September, reports the Washington Times.

[….]

“This is social engineering, not humanitarian relief,” writes Robert Spencer at JihadWatch.com. “Syria was 10% Christian before the war. The Christians have been targeted and persecuted by several jihad groups. The refugees, then, should be at least 10% Christian and probably more than that.”

More here.
Using the US State Department’s own data base, here are the top ten states where Syrians are being placed (in parenthesis is the number for just these last nine months):

Michigan (570)

California (497)

Arizona (388)

Illinois (343)

Pennsylvania (340)

Texas (324)

Florida (301)

North Carolina (279)

New York (264)

Ohio (209)

In addition to cities in the top ten states, the following cities are now building seed communities of Syrian Muslims:
Denver, CO, New Haven, CT, Atlanta and Stone Mountain, GA, Boise, ID, Indianapolis, IN, Des Moines, IA, Wichita, KS, Louisville and Lexington, KY, New Orleans and Baton Rouge, LA, Portland, ME, Baltimore and Silver Spring, MD, Lowell and Worcester, MA, Rochester, MN, Kansas City and St. Louis, MO, Omaha, NE, Las Vegas, NV, Concord, NH, Elizabeth, NJ, Tulsa, OK, Portland, OR, Providence, RI, Columbia, SC, Memphis and Nashville, TN, Salt Lake City, UT, Charlottesville, Newport News, and Roanoke, VA, Richland, Seattle and Spokane, WA, and Oshkosh, WI.
