Thanks to the blog, Lockandload, for posting this story that appeared in the Daily Mail last week. A British Ethiopian refugee has been held at Guantanamo Bay, captured in Afghanistan, and now a British team, including a doctor, have flown to Gitmo to see how soon they can bring the suspected terrorist home to the UK. Mr. Mohamed has been on a hunger strike.
A team of UK officials were today travelling to Guantanamo Bay to visit British detainee Binyam Mohamed and make preparations for his expected release.
The team, who left Miami Airport today en route to the US prison camp on Cuba, include a doctor who will assess Mr Mohamed’s condition, the Foreign Office said.
Legal representatives of the Ethiopian-born detainee, who has refugee status in the UK, hope that he will be cleared for release and return to Britain within days by a review ordered by President Barack Obama.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: ‘A team of British officials have left Miami airport today to visit Mr Binyam Mohamed in Guantanamo Bay.
As soon as he is eating again, they will send a plane for him. Any bets on how soon he will return to the Jihad?
