Will Starbucks test new refugee employees for TB (San Diego off the charts)?

Michael Patrick Leahy at Breitbart called Starbucks to see if new refugee hires (see my post earlier) will be tested for TB as part of their employment screening. Surprise! No response!

Starbucks held a hiring event exclusively for refugees in El Cajon, California on Tuesday, part of its recently announced commitment to hire more than 10,000 refugees over the next five years.

El Cajon is located in San Diego County, where more than 20,000 refugees have have been resettled by the federal government in the past nine and a half years since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2008.

A 2013 study from a research team led by Dr. Timothy Rodwell, “an associate professor and physician in the Division of Global Health at UCSD [University of California at San Diego]” that “analyzed data from LTBI [latent tuberculosis infection] screening results of 4,280 refugees resettled in San Diego County between January 2010 and October 2012,” noted that “San Diego County, in California, is a leading refugee resettlement site, and it also has one of the highest rates of active TB in the country, with an incidence rate of 8.4 cases per 100 000 people in 2011.”

In other words, the incidence of active TB among the 4,280 refugees who were resettled in San Diego County between January 2010 and October 2012 was 327 per 100,000, more than 100 times greater than the incidence of active TB among the entire population of the United States in 2016.

Wow! I didn’t know this next bit! Refugee contractors*** repeatedly tell the public that only those with latent TB are admitted to the US, but even if that is all we are admitting, that is still a risk for public health.

About four percent of the entire population of the United States tests positive for latent TB infection. Around 10 percent of those with LTBI will develop active TB at some point in their lives. The triggering mechanism to activate latent TB is not entirely understood, but high levels of stress, crowded living situations, poor public health practices, the presence of other diseases that lower the immune system, and behavioral conduct–such as smoking–appear to increase the chances of activation.

The 21.4 percent of refugees in the San Diego County study who tested positive for latent TB infection is about five times the national average.

Breitbart News contacted Starbucks to learn if their refugee hiring process will include mandatory testing for latent and active TB, but has not received a response.

If you are a good-hearted soul and think refugee resettlement is all about humanitarianism, think again! Big businesses/global corporations like Starbucks depend on the free flow of cheap (some call it slave) labor.

And, I have a question for you: As a volunteer are you given instructions on how to spot communicable diseases like TB in the refugee community you are helping? (See symptoms at left).

The only way for real reform of how the US admits refugees is to remove these contractors/Leftwing activists/big business head hunters from the process.

Starbucks making good on promise: Will interview refugees in California for jobs as baristas

They say they ultimately want to hire 10,000 refugees because no American young people need jobs! (No they didn’t say that, but they must be thinking it!).

From ABC News in El Cajon (hat tip: Joanne):

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV)–Store managers from throughout San Diego will gather tomorrow at a Starbucks hiring event for refugees who want to train to be baristas.

The U.S. company announced in January it would hire 10,000 refugees over the next five years. The announcement by CEO Howard Schultz came two days after President Donald Trump issued his first executive order putting a four-month hold on allowing refugees into the U.S.

The world’s largest coffee chain said it would focus initial efforts on markets where refugee need is greatest and there’s a store base to meet the need.

According to state and federal data, San Diego fits the bill.

No other California county has received more refugees during the past decade than San Diego county.

In 2016, San Diego settled 3,100 refugees, along with 520 military interpreters on special immigrant visas.

About 30 Starbucks managers will conduct on-the-spot interviews at the International Rescue Committee***‘s office located at 131 E. Main Street in El Cajon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Applicants are encouraged to visit Starbucks online career center prior to the event and bring resumes along with them.

Sheesh, the plot thickens…

At Forbes yesterday (Starbuck’s bad dream). The story is about a bogus ad campaign (kinda funny, but fake). But, I learned this:

Say what you will about Howard Schultz, and there’s plenty to say. Mr. Schultz, who served as Starbucks CEO until earlier this year, ran the company like a kid in a candy store, opening all the jars and boxes to taste the goodies inside before moving on. He bought a chain of tea shops, Teavana, then shut them down. He bought a chain of bakeries, La Boulange, then shut them down. He weathered the scorn of critics who called the coffee over-roasted and who derided his plan to hire refugees overseas. [San Diego is not overseas!—ed]

It doesn’t hurt to remember that Mr. Schultz is often mentioned as a contender for the democratic presidential nomination in 2020, so there’s a possibility that the latest news is part of an early whisper-campaign to tarnish his image.

Today’s news doesn’t actually involve Mr. Schultz by name but by his commitment to hire 100,000 new employees over the next decade. In the United States, they would be veterans and members of traditionally disadvantaged communities. At the stores outside the US (and Starbucks does business in 27 countries) Starbucks announced that many of the new hires would be refugees.

[Really! Then why are they hiring refugees in California? What about Big Meat and Big Chicken? Won’t Starbucks be competing with them in Cali?—ed]

Trump loses (with the media) on Australia refugee swap deal….

…..but he can still win with the voters!

His first instincts were correct—-this is a “dumb” deal. And, whoever advised him to move forward with a completely ridiculous (unprecedented!) Obama Administration last minute ‘deal’ should be fired.

Turnbull definitely wants the deal to save his political neck! Leftwing Australians want these mostly men admitted to the mainland.

If the Trump State Department/Homeland Security ultimately admit hundreds of mostly Muslim men to American towns, voters will be truly ticked-off.

If he doesn’t go through with the ‘deal,’ get a taste of the treatment he is already getting from the likes of CNN.

CNN managed to find a family and a single woman to interview (to criticize the leaked phone conversation) while most of the detainees are young men.

All of this could have been avoided if he had killed the ‘deal’ in the first weeks of his Presidency.

(CNN)In the wake of a leaked phone call in which US President Donald Trump repeatedly called them “bad” and “prisoners,” refugees at the center of a controversial deal between the US and Australia say they have lost faith in ever making it to America. [Think about this, they tried to reach Australia illegally and somehow they have some expectation of getting to America!—ed]

“We are really hopeless,” said Shirdel Eskandari Khah, an Iranian refugee who lives with his wife and seven-year-old son on the Pacific island of Nauru.

“We believe that it is another game from the US and Australian governments.”

Under the terms of a deal settled by the Obama administration, the US agreed to vet and then resettle nearly 1,200 refugees like Eskandari Khah, who have been living for years in or around offshore detention camps [So, not all in camps!—ed] run by the Australian government. In return, Canberra would take a group of Central American refugees who had been attempting to make it to the US.

Just think about that previous line. So these Central Americans were trying to illegally get to the US and somehow it is the American taxpayers’ responsibility to admit them to our towns and cities, or send them on to Australia. BTW, HIAS is involved, see here. (Never a good thing!)

USCIS spokesman Carter Langston—No worries! We are coming back to do more interviews (build up hope, so if the deal falls through, Trump can be blamed further).

Australia was on the right track in its attempt to deter illegal migrants, but WHY IS THIS NOW OUR PROBLEM?

The offshore camps — on Nauru and Papua New Guinea — are key to Australia’s immigration policy. Anyone who arrives by boat without a visa is told they will never be able to settle on Australian soil and sent to the island camps for processing.

Last week, refugees on Nauru began to hold regular demonstrations, with one of the demands being for an update on the status of the US program.

Carter Langston, a spokesman for the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, said the resettlement deal was ongoing and the department was planning upcoming trips to the camps.

It is not too late, Trump can still get out of the ‘deal’—at least some American voters will be happy. If he goes forward with the swap, he just gets deeper and deeper in to the muck and shouldn’t expect any praise from the media.

And, whoever convinced him to move forward with the rotten deal in the early days of this Administration needs to be fired!

Memory lane! CT Senator Richard Blumenthal sought to REDUCE security screening for Syrians in 2015

Editor: This is a repost of a repost! Since President Trump was ‘highlighting’ the storied career of Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal yesterday (so that Blumenthal today is all over the Leftwing cable news), I thought new readers might like to know more about the man.

Come to think of it, I haven’t heard Blumenthal lately asking for more Syrian refugees for Connecticut.

Here is my post from earlier this year, which is a repost itself from 2015:

Because he is all over the news today as the focal point in one more attack on President Donald Trump, I’m re-posting this story from 2015 so you know just who Senator Blumenthal is and why he must be pretty unhappy with Trump.

In 2015 Senator Blumenthal held a press conference with the director of CAIR Connecticut seeking to speed up Syrian refugees to America by reducing security screening requirements. 98% of Syrians entering the US are Muslims.

Yesterday we told you that Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) is leading the charge to lessen the security screening for Syrian and other Middle Eastern refugees and he wants to expand the so-called P-3 (fraud ridden!) family reunification program.

That is CAIR-Connecticut’s Executive Director behind Senator Blumenthal. Getting pretty brazen aren’t they, or is Blumenthal just pretty dense to invite CAIR to be so prominently involved in lessening security screening for refugees?

Now we know the answer to the question I asked all of you to help answer. Looming over Blumenthal’s shoulder is none other than Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR)- Connecticut director Mongi Dhaouadi.

(When I mentioned to a friend that I had updated my post with that information (thanks to Kyle), she suggested I write a second post because as a subscriber, who received the earlier one, she would not see the update.)

But it is worth mentioning again because this is now the second time we have seen CAIR involving itself directly in the Syrian (mostly Muslim) resettlement issue (and you can bet they are not advocating for the persecuted Syrian Christians).

Clearly their interest is in boosting the Muslim population in the US.

CAIR was here in the St. Louis ‘Bring them here march’ last month.

Mongi S. Dhaouadi was born and raised in Tunisia. He moved to the US when he was 19 years old and studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As The Executive director of CAIR-CT, he conducts civil rights workshops throughout the state of Connecticut under the title “Know Your Rights.” Also, he leads several workshops and discussions on Islamophobia and the Muslim experience before and after 9/11. He has participated in and led several media campaigns and press conferences on issues concerning the Muslim community ranging from discrimination cases to advocating for the change of racial profiling laws in the state of Connecticut. Dhaouadi was featured in countless local, national, and international media outlets including NPR, FOX News, and Democracy Now with Amy Goodman. During the summer, he runs a youth internship program during which high school and college students work on several projects ranging from preparing a toolkit on Islamic cultural competency for schools, to writing and publishing articles from a Muslim youth perspective in the local papers and publications. Dhaouadi leads a Connecticut delegation at the Capitol Hill visits; an event that is organized every year by CAIR National, where members of the Muslim community visit their representatives in Wasington, DC and advocate for issues of concern domestic and foreign. So far Connecticut doesn’t get very many refugees compared to other states. I guess Blumenthal and Dhaouadi would like to change that.

Minnesota Governor calls mosque bombing act of terror

Never mind that no one really knows what it was about yet.

Minneapolis (AP) — The Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in suburban Minneapolis, like other U.S. mosques, occasionally receives threatening calls and emails. But leaders say they’re more frightened after a weekend attack in which an explosive shattered windows and damaged a room as worshippers prepared for morning prayers.

Gov. Dayton visited the Somali mosque yesterday. The story gives me the opportunity to tell new readers that the gov will be remembered for his 2015 admonition that if you don’t like the new (refugee-infused) Minnesota, get out! https://refugeeresettlementwatch.org/2015/10/16/mn-governor-dayton-dont-like-immigrants-get-out-of-minnesota/

“We feel like it’s much deeper and scarier than like something random,” Mohamed Omar, the center’s executive director, said Sunday. “It’s so scary.”

No one was hurt in the blast, which happened around 5 a.m. Saturday. Windows of the imam’s office were shattered, either by the blast or by an object thrown through them. The FBI is seeking suspects and trying to determine whether the incident was a hate crime.

Not Minnesota? Or, maybe the new Minnesota?

Gov. Mark Dayton, who joined other public officials and community leaders for a meeting inside the building Sunday, described the bombing as “so wretched” and “not Minnesota.”

“This is an act of terrorism. This is against the law in America,” Dayton said at a news conference afterward, the Star Tribune reported .

In a story about the bombing in the Africa Times we are reminded by the reporter that there is a large Oromo population there too. I wonder why they brought that up?

Minneapolis-St. Paul is home to the greatest concentration of Somali immigrants in the United States. It also has a large Oromo population, among significant communities coming from Ethiopia, Kenya, Liberia and Sudan.

As soon as the feds catch the perp, we will let you know. Or, if you see the news before I do, let me know!

And, that reminds me, the story about the Somali police officer shooting the Australian woman in Minneapolis seems to have completely fallen in to a black hole!
