More on trafficking illegal alien Somalis to Malta

This would be funny if it weren’t so serious.  The Times of Malta reported yesterday that a Somali has been sentenced to four years in prison for bringing boatloads of illegal aliens from Libya to the island nation of Malta (for a handsome profit of course).  But, here is the hitch and the funny part.  He was turned in by a “client” for cheating the client (the illegal alien) because he didn’t get the illegal alien to the illegal alien’s hoped-for destination.

So did he go to jail for trafficking or lying to his “client?”   And, can the illegal alien “client” now stay in Malta or will authorities and the US Ambassador to Malta move the guy on to a town near you as the Ambassador and the US State Department have done with hundreds of other Somalis who have managed to get to Malta over the last few years!

From The Times of Malta:

A man found guilty of organising boat trips to get illegal immigrants from Libya to Europe was this morning jailed for four years and six months and fined €270.

Mohamed Muhudiin Dhiblaawe had been reported to the police by Somali Omar Hasan Nour in March 2009, who ended in Malta after paying Mr Dhiblaawe $900 for the trip.

Mr Nour reported Mr Dhiblaawe to the police because he felt robbed as he did not intend his destination to be Malta.

Following investigations, the police found that the accused transported people from Libya to Europe because of the massive profits involved. The accused had spoken to Mr Nour and others in Libya and offered to help them travel to Europe for the equivalent of €600 each.

The accused had promised to make all the necessary arrangements and gave the Somalis all the necessary instructions for the escape.

For more of this sort of humor, check out my post on Malta in January to see how one Somali traveler through Malta got sent to the US and is complaining about it!   The post also has some links on our precedent-setting arrangement to scoop up illegal aliens in Malta and transform them into refugees for resettlement in your neighborhood.   This practice has been going on since at least 2007 when I started to follow the issue during the Bush Administration.  Bush started it, and Obama continues it.

Finns backlogged on Somali refugee cases

It seems Finland is running a backlog of family reunification applications from Somalis.

From YLE.fi:

The Finnish Immigration Service is swamped with family reunification applications from Somalis. About 5,600 such applications are being processed, with the oldest dating from the start of 2009.

[…..]

The Finnish Immigration Service says that the handling of Somalis’ applications for a residence permit on the basis of family ties takes longer than average for such applications.

There are two reasons for the hold-ups, according to the authority. Firstly, the numbers of applications from Somalis have rapidly grown. Secondly, it is usually impossible to obtain documents proving a familial relationship from Somalia, which means that the interested parties have to be interviewed in person.

Most frequently, applicants are interviewed at the Finnish mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. [Gee, can you tell us if you are related to so-and-so!—ed]

Two words for Finland:   DNA TESTING!

For new readers: In 2008 the US State Department shut down the entire family reunification program for Africa mostly because they found that as many as 80% of the applications were fraudulent.  Back in November of 2010 the State Dept. was about to re-open the program with some DNA testing required.  I frankly don’t know what happened with it, they have probably quietly re-opened Somali family reunification to the US and are operating on a backlog as well.

Human Rights First: Bring them over from Libya ASAP

It was just a matter of time for the drums to begin beating—bring the North African refugees to America by expediting the resettlement process!

Human Rights First in a press release yesterday stressed the “urgent need” to begin resettling refugees from Libya to the United States.

Don’t be taken in by this, this is what the refugee industry loves—an emergency that allows them to bring more of the third world to America and skip the normal resettlement process.  I warned here a few weeks ago to be on the look-out for the PR lobbying campaign to begin.   Next thing you know they will be demanding an airlift as the Center for American Progress did here with Iraqis in 2009.  Thank goodness, even Obama didn’t fall for that outrageous demand.

From Human Rights First (emphasis mine):

As the international community responds to migrants and refugees fleeing Libya, the particular resettlement needs of refugees in Libya must also be prioritized through emergency resettlement to third countries including the United States.

[….]

To make resettlement an effective solution for this population, the United States should immediately remove unnecessary processing delays in the resettlement program that continue to hinder the resettlement of refugees from different parts of the world to the United States.

So what do they have in mind for removing processing delays?

Improve the timeliness of resettlement processing, including through reducing unnecessary delays in the security clearance process.

[….]

Develop and implement an emergency resettlement procedure for refugees facing imminent danger.  [airlift?]

Speed up the security process and haul them in here fast!   I’ll bet at this very moment refugee industry insiders are plotting with our Ambassador to Malta to get as many as they can to Malta and make that the springboard to the US.

King hearings and the elephant in the living room

“There is a big elephant in the room, but our society continues not to see it.”

Those are the words of Melvin Bledsoe whose son converted to Islam and subsequently killed a soldier who happened to be standing outside of a recruiting station in Arkansas on a fine spring day in 2009.  My posts on the murder are here.  Bledsoe said in testimony yesterday that his son was radicalized in Nashville.

For more on the important and controversial hearings see Jerry Gordon writing at the Iconoclast here, and Steve Emerson at the Investigative Project on Terrorism, here.

Abdirizak Bihi

Note that one of those giving testimony was Abdirizak Bihi who we encountered in 2009 when he wrote to Refugee Resettlement Watch (here) in an attempt to get the story out about his nephew being lured to Somalia for Jihad training.  We reported on Bihi again in November of 2009, here, when he said the FBI wasn’t anywhere close to the “big fish” responsible for recruiting the Somali “youths.”

By the way, the US Senate Homeland Security Committee held hearings in March of 2009 on the radicalization of Somali young men, but they were squishy politically correct hearings and I could barely stand listening to it, here.

Not the “big fish” by any stretch, but readers should know that a former Somali refugee from Minnesota, Mohamud Said Omar, was captured in the Netherlands in connection with funding the trips of the Somalis who returned to Africa for Jihad training.  Last I heard (May 2010) he was fighting extradition from the Netherlands to the US.  I bet he knows if the mosque in Minneapolis was involved in recruiting.

For new readers: We have admitted well over 100,000 Somali refugees to the US.   To check out the numbers visit this post, one of our most widely read posts over the last few years.   In FY2010 which ended September 30th the US State Department resettled 4,884 Somalis (here) to towns near you.

Also, after being closed for nearly two years, the US State Department is on the verge of resuming the fraud-ridden family reunification program that admitted as many as 36,000 Somalis fraudulently to the US between 2003 and 2008.  See the latest on new regulations, here.  The State Department is on the verge of re-opening the program and may already have done so.

Is the “Bama boy” dead?

On the eve of House hearings on the Islamic radicalization of American Muslims, Jerry Gordon is reporting on an AP story that says Omar Hammami, the Alabama born and bred Somali fighter might be dead in Somalia.  Check out the Iconoclast here for Gordon’s account.

For a refresher on Hammami see our posts here and here.

I’ve been so swamped elsewhere I haven’t had much time to post here at RRW.   Since we are talking about Rep. Peter King’s radicalization hearings tomorrow, here is a story that informs us that the uncle of one of the Somali-American “youths” who traveled to Somalia to learn to be a Jihadist will be testifying.  The “youth” is believed to have been killed not long after he arrived in Africa.
