Somali rapist went to college, worked for refugee agency but didn’t understand our customs?

Thanks to Brenda Walker, a VDARE journalist, for sending the link to a story from Milwaukee in response to my request for more information on this rape case yesterday, here.   Here is what Walker had to say on Sunday.

Although this is 6 months old it is worth posting now because it highlights several troubling issues.   From the Journal Sentinel in March of this year:

A 25-year-old refugee from Somalia has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a teenage girl he met at a Milwaukee library last year.

Abdiwahab Hussein was found guilty of the March 3, 2008, attack during a jury trial in December. On Thursday, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Carl Ashley sentenced him to 25 years in prison, followed by 25 years of extended supervision on two counts related to the incident. Ashley also sentenced Hussein to seven more years in prison and seven years’ extended supervision for two other counts, to be served concurrent to the longer sentence.

Ali Mursal, 23, a co-defendant who also is a refugee from Somalia, pleaded guilty last month and is scheduled for sentencing this week.

Hussein went to college and worked with a refugee agency!  Which one?

According to statements made at Hussein’s sentencing, he spent much of his life in refugee camps before fleeing his war-torn homeland four or five years ago. Here, he completed two years of college and worked for a nonprofit agency coordinating programs for other Somalian refugees.

Even with some college education and an interpreter (is this why so many interpreters are needed in places like Nashville?), he says he couldn’t understand the proceedings.  Yeh, sure, we believe that one.

Hussein has maintained his innocence. In a letter to Ashley and at his sentencing, he said he did not understand all that had occurred in court.

Ashley had appointed an interpreter and repeatedly offered Hussein the chance to talk about what his sentence should be. Instead, Hussein proclaimed his innocence and repeated that he had not understood the earlier court proceedings despite the presence of an interpreter.

His lawyer says he didn’t understand our customs!  I know it’s their “custom” to rape in Africa but surely the refugee agency where he worked must have given their African refugees some training about our customs (our laws!) especially when they are to be employed by the agency.  Which agency was it?

Jeffrey Gaines, a lawyer representing Hussein, pleaded for a lighter sentence, noting that Hussein was unfamiliar with American customs and practices. He said Hussein would be deported once released from jail.

“Where he’s deported to, I don’t know,” Gaines said. “There is not government and no civilized legal society (in Somalia).”

Fat chance he will be deported.  There are others we have written about on these pages that should be deported to Somalia but never will be.

For new readers:

The US State Department has admitted over 80,000 Somali refugees to the US in the last 25 years and then last year had to suspend family reunification because widespread immigration fraud was revealed through DNA testing.

Incidentally this article does not tell us how Hussein got into the US.  Was he admitted as a refugee through the US State Department?  Why does the article say he came 4 or 5 years ago, does no one know?   Or perhaps he came across our border illegally and asked for and received asylum.  Does anyone know?

US Navy Seals kill an Al-Shabaab bigwig inside of Somalia

Seems that Obama is going to take these Al-Shabaab jihadists seriously.  If any more Somali youths (former refugees)* get the big idea of joining Al-Shabaab in Africa maybe this will give them pause.  From Fox News thanks to Blulitespecial.

Navy Seals from U.S. Special Operations Forces conducted a raid in southern Somalia on Monday that killed Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, one of 4 co-conspirators wanted in the 2002 bombing of an Israel owned hotel in Mombasa, Kenya, two senior U.S. military officials told FOX News.

Ten days ago President Obama signed the Execute Order for Nabhan, who since 2006 was on the FBI’s list of most wanted terrorists. He was also wanted for the attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Kenya in 1998.

Two MH-6 Little Bird helicopters deployed from one of two U.S. Navy vessels near Somalia’s coast strafed a vehicle Nabhan was using to go back and forth between meetings. Intelligence operatives had been monitoring Sabhan prior to the attack. The helicopters passed once, firing on the vehicle, and then circled back around to retrieve the body so they could make a positive identification, according to one official.

[….]

Nabhan’s group Somali, Al- Shabaab, has links to Al Qaeda.

He, he, he!  I wonder if Al-Amriki will be next?

We have been following the case of Somali “youths” being recruited to join Al- Shabaab since last November, here.

6th American Jihadist believed to have died in Somalia

Update:  More from the Minneapolis Star Tribune today.

Here is a report from Minnesota Public Radio that a sixth “youth” from Minnesota has been killed in Somalia.  The previous 5 reported deaths have been Somali former refugees from the Minneapolis area.  This Jihadist is white.

St. Paul, Minn. — A sixth Minnesota man is feared dead in Somalia after joining an Islamic extremist group there. But Troy Kastigar stood out from his fellow recruits, because the Minneapolis man was not Somali.

Kastigar, 28, was a Muslim convert who apparently had no personal ties to the lawless east African country.

Troy Kastigar’s family received reports of his death within the past week, according to friends of the family. The circumstances of his reported death aren’t clear, and the information could not be confirmed by the FBI.

Kastigar’s involvement in Somalia is a puzzle in itself. He told his mother that he was going to Kenya when he left the Twin Cities last November.

Somali community members believe Kastigar was part of the last wave of Minnesota men who joined the violent militia al-Shabaab in Somalia. While some of the 20 or so men say they left to defend their homeland in a bloody civil war, Katigar’s motivations are less clear.

Robert Spencer, writing at Jihad Watch yesterday made this important point about Kastigar’s motivations:

We have heard a lot about Somalis returning from Minnesota to Somalia to wage jihad. But this is the first account of an American convert to Islam going there to wage jihad. This is clear evidence that it is the Islamic jihad ideology, not nationalism or tribal loyalty, that is the motivating factor involved in these cases.

This is an extremely important point and one we have made here previously.  Zakaria Maruf, one of the other Minnesota Jihadists to die in Somalia this year, debunked the notion of nationalism as the driving force for joining the Jihad in Africa and told MPR this:

In the interview, Maruf (one of those who left to fight) implies that his participation in the fighting was motivated by religion, not patriotism. Maruf said he and his friends heard the call of Allah, and they accepted it.

Zakaria Maruf was the 4th American recruited to fight in Somalia to be killed and he died the same weekend as the New York Times said he was the recruiter, but he wasn’t.  See that story here.

I noticed when I attended the Senate Homeland Security hearings on this issue—terrorist recruitment in the US—that the Senators seemed relieved if witnesses told them this was all about patriotism and nationalism, that Somalis were going to Africa to defend Somalia against Ethiopian invaders.  The other explanation, that they were following the call of Allah seems too much to digest for our erstwhile leaders in Washington.

This is so funny! Blog suggests Maryland is still an ‘old south’ state with a slavery mentality

Clearly Yahyasheikho0786’s Blog is not written in the US.  He knows nothing about what sort of state Maryland has become since the late 1860’s!    And, apparently the blogger doesn’t follow us regularly because if he did he would know that calling us “racist” is something that just inspires us more because it means we have pushed someone’s buttons.  Here is his whole post (commenting on my post, here, yesterday).

Sooner or later, the anti-Islam/anti-Muslim crowd in the US was going to become aware of the large number of Muslims entering America in refugee resettlement programs and join forces with the anti-immigration activists to advocate against them. This was an easy connection to make between two major ideological pillars of right-wing American politics.

There is a blog now called “Refugee Resettlement Watch” – you know, like “jihad Watch” and “Islam Watch, and sure enough, it juxtaposes right-wing anti-immigrant sentiment with anti-Muslim sentiment – though it is an equal-opportunity disparager of all refugees.

Of course you do find other strains of right-wing behavior there, such as blatant racism. In a story published today on the president of Somalia’s impending visit to the US, blogger “acorcoran” writes:

I can’t see what this will accomplish except maybe bring in some bucks for the beleaguered Islamic government in Somalia…

The word “buck” as racist slang for a black man has a long history going back to slavery in the American South. As political speech, it was used most successfully by Ronald Reagan in the phrase “strapping young buck” as a racist dogwhistle when he reinitiated Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” which led to his eventual victory in the presidential election of 1980.

“Refugee Resettlement Watch” is published in an old South slave state (Maryland), where it seems “Old times dar am not forgotten.”

O.K. now Yahyasheikho0786 don’t you think you are stretching things a bit with your focus on the word “bucks.”   Why on earth would I say Somalia needed more bucks when they already have a lot of bucks of the sort you are describing?   Of course, Al Shabaab has been “buck” shopping in the US and managed to convince about 20 former refugees to go to Somalia to learn to be terrorists.  I think  one reason the “moderate” Somali President is actually coming to the US is to try to convince Somali immigrants not to go back to Somalia and fight with Al-Shabaab against his government.

“Bucks” as I am using it is deep slang for MONEY, CASH, FUNDS… and you know it.

Hey, but thanks for noticing us!

Update later in the day!    I had no idea when I wrote this earlier today that tonight Glenn Beck would show the world how Maryland is still a slave state—of a different sort.  See the story at Big Government. com about ACORN and how some of its Baltimore workers turned a blind eye to underage sex slaves, here.

Somalia’s President to visit US cities with large Somali populations

I can’t see what this will accomplish except maybe bring in some bucks for the beleaguered Islamic government in Somalia, or maybe he is hoping to persuade former refugees to not join up with the Al Shabaab jihadists trying to kill him and take over the country.  But, I did have a little laugh thinking that, well, if it looked like his government might fall he could always just stay on here and ask for asylum.  From AP:

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The newly elected president of Somalia plans a tour of U.S. communities with large Somali populations this fall in hopes of spreading the word about his country’s problems and getting advice for solving some of them.

Elmi Duale, Somalia’s United Nations ambassador and permanent representative, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed wants to visit communities in Minneapolis, Columbus and suburban Washington, D.C.

The visit will occur sometime at the end of this month.

Thousands of Somalis have come to the United States in the two decades since civil war began tearing their country apart in the early 1990s. The country has not had a functioning central government since about 1991.

Ahmed sees the visit as a “two-way channel,” Duale said, a chance to tell Somalis in the United States about the situation at home and a way of reminding them they can help.

“It’s a way of showing the Somalis in diaspora the homeland considers them still part and parcel of the community, and they have responsibilities to help and assist,” he said.

Ahmed’s visit also comes as a federal investigation continues into the return to Somalia of several young Somalis from the Minneapolis area, apparently to join a terrorist jihad back home.

I wonder who pays for his security while in the US.  Afterall there could still be some of the recruited Al Shabaab “youths” who hadn’t left the country yet.   Are local police departments responsible?  Does anyone know?
