Trump Administration proceeding with Obama's Australian "dumb deal"

In a story about whether Australia’s illegal alien/asylum seekers housed on Nauru and Manus islands had another choice to go to another country besides the US (no, there isn’t another choice except for the previously offered Cambodia), we learn that Trump has sent a team to those islands to begin the screening process.
Here is the news from News Corp Australia:
(Don’t forget, most of the aliens held in offshore detention centers are from Muslim countries.)

THE immigration department chief has confirmed Australia is not negotiating with any other countries to find refugee resettlement places for people on Nauru and Manus Island who miss out on going to the US.

Asked what happens to the refugees who miss out on America, department secretary Michael Pezzullo said there was scope for them to stay in Papua New Guinea, on Nauru or go to Cambodia.

Out of five refugees who went to Cambodia, only one is left — the rest went back to their countries of origin, despite the $55 million budgeted for the deal.

Mr Pezzullo rubbished suggestions the US may take no refugees under the resettlement deal with Australia.

“I don’t agree it could be zero,” Mr Pezzullo told a Senate inquiry hearing in Canberra late on Monday night. He said the agreement was for in the ballpark of 1250.

The deal was struck with the Obama administration and will reluctantly be honoured by new US President Donald Trump, who branded it a “dumb deal”.

The hearing was told there are teams of US Homeland Security officials on Nauru doing fingerprinting and security interviews who will then go on to Manus Island in April and May. Medical screening would follow.

Department official Rachel Noble said America had not set any parameters around the country-of-origin of refugees that it will accept, despite a 90-day travel ban to the US by citizens of six Muslim countries — Yemen, Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia and Sudan.

Hillary's Libyan legacy still responsible for invasion of Europe as Italy panics

I’m not going to let you all forget that it was Hillary and her girls who were responsible for the overthrow of Libyan strongman Muammar Ghaddafi that resulted in the opening of the flood gates from Africa to Europe for tens of thousands of mostly economic migrants from the heart of Africa to countries like Italy geographically on the frontline of the invasion.
Even Obama didn’t have the stomach for the slaughter of Ghaddafi.  I followed the whole sorry tale from its earliest days here at RRW.

Susan Rice, Hillary and Samantha Power. Hillary admitted that in 2011 Obama was reluctant to follow Europe’s lead and get involved in Libya, but that she marshaled the forces (including Susan Rice and Samantha Power) to persuade Obama to help overthrow Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Of course the Europeans made that fatal mistake in the earliest days of the invasion by not turning back (using safe methods) the first boats that were launched from the Libyan coast. Now they rescue each one sending a signal to people smugglers to keep ’em coming!

Italy panics as North Africa migrants surge

Italy will host a meeting between European and North African countries next week in a bid to strengthen support for an agreement it struck with Libya to fight people smuggling as migrant arrivals surge.

The prime minister of the UN-backed government in Tripoli, Fayez Al-Seraj, will meet with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni and interior ministers from eight European countries including Germany and France on Monday.

Last month, Italy pledged money, training and equipment to help Libya fight people smugglers, a deal that was endorsed by European Union member states.

But Libya is still far from stable. Two governments are vying for power – in Tobruk to the east and Tripoli to the west – and the country remains mired in factional fighting and lawlessness.

The authorities in eastern Libya have rejected the deal struck between Rome and Tripoli.

“I’m not so naive as to not understand the situation there,” Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti told reporters. “But we cannot remain immobile and wait for the country to stabilise.”

He said the Libya agreement and next week’s meeting were not just “talk”, but strategic steps toward managing mass migration to Europe.

So far this year more than 16,000 migrants – a 36 per cent increase on the same period last year – have been rescued at sea and brought to Italy after Libya-based people smugglers piled them onto flimsy boats.

Trump travel ban could help Canada

This was an interesting little nugget buried in an otherwise mundane news report.

It seems that some of those migrants from the Middle East and Africa, trying to get in to Canada across our northern border, actually intended to get to Canada anyway by first obtaining visas to travel to the US.
Here is the story at Arab News:

The recent wave of migrants to Canada originated mostly from East Africa and war-torn nations such as Syria.

Federal police and immigration officials said some refugees appeared to have intended from the start to come to Canada after flying to the US on a visitor visa.

Failed asylum seekers are illegal aliens!

Others decided to come only after they were denied asylum south of the border, or because they feared deportation amid the current US crackdown. [Trump should be able to bring those numbers down by DETAINING those who failed to be granted asylum! They shouldn’t be wandering loose around the US anyway!—ed]

From Jan. 1 to Feb. 21, a total of about 4,000 people filed refugee claims in Canada, up from 2,500 during the same period last year.

The figure includes border jumpers and those arriving from the US at border checkpoints.

Local officials say at least 180 asylum-seekers have crossed the border near Emerson since January.

So, if Trump’s expected new EO does ban travel for a time from 6 or 7 mostly Muslim countries, less should be getting in to the US on a false pretense, and consequently less would be heading to Canada from here. Right?

Maine: Sudanese refugee pleads guilty in 2015 murder of teen

This is a diversity is beautiful alert!

A variety of migrants had a shoot-out in Portland, ME in 2015 and the result was that one young man (believed not to have known the shooters) died.

Before I give you the story (thanks to reader Frank), you must know that anyone granted asylum, as was the case with this Sudanese killer, is then considered a refugee and all of the protections, and welfare goodies that refugees we flew in on your dime receive, are also available to the successful asylum seeker.
To have been granted asylum, Majok arrived in the US on his own and convinced federal authorities that he would be persecuted if returned to Africa. (#ThisIsARefugee)
When you read through stories about him, see here for example, you see that he had several run-ins with law enforcement over the years.  I would like to know in what year he was granted asylum (before or after his criminal activities began?).
(Reminder: Sudan is one of 7 countries on Trump’s earlier ‘travel ban’ EO.)

Gang Deng Majok pleaded guilty to murder Friday in the shooting death of Treyjon Arsenault, the 19-year-old Westbrook High School graduate who was gunned down inside a Portland recording studio on Memorial Day weekend in 2015.

Majok, who was sentenced to 30 years by Justice Andrew M. Horton, agreed to change his plea rather than risk a trial.

Arsenault’s mother, Nancy Laxson of Scarborough, said she struggled with the decision to pursue the plea agreement, but is now relieved to see the sentencing completed before Sunday, which would have been Arsenault’s 21st birthday.

Laxson also was critical of authorities for not deporting Majok, a Sudanese national who had been granted asylum and had pleaded guilty to a string of misdemeanors.

It was not immediately clear whether someone with asylum status could be deported after being convicted of a misdemeanor. Majok will be subject to deportation after he completes his sentence for Arsenault’s murder.

According to authorities, Majok and one of Majok’s associates, Johnny Ouch of Westbrook, got into an argument with Mohamed Ali, a longtime rival of Ouch. [Was Mohamed a Somali?—ed]

The argument escalated and Majok and Ouch started shooting, according to Ouch’s attorney.

Beware Somalis, others, coming from US claiming a passion for Canada as they illegally cross the border

I was surprised to see this Op-ed published in the Washington Post—a message to the media to look more closely at those going across the Minnesota border in to Canada.
It is too simple to say that the rise in numbers has anything to do with who is in power in Washington (the rise began several years ago during the Obama Administration):

The great challenge of Canadian journalism in the age of Trump is resisting the temptation to cram all bilateral news into a flattering narrative that contrasts crazed, bigoted America with righteous, inclusive Canada.

Canadian papers have been brimming lately with sensationalistic stories of U.S. Muslim refugees “pouring” into Canada to escape President Trump and his “Muslim ban,” risking life and limb to cross unmanned portions of the border in weather icy enough to literally freeze off fingers. Things reached a social media peak when a maudlin photo of a jolly Mountie escorting a young family over the snowy 49th parallel went viral.

Yet in the service of a tidy morality tale, much about these border crossings is being reported inaccurately, or at the very least, enormous amounts of complicating context are going conspicuously ignored.
