The plot thickens in the Philadelphia immigration fraud arrest of Hayatullah Dawari

We told you about Dawari, an Afghan “convenience store clerk” who is also supposed to be a doctor, arrested on immigration fraud charges here a couple of days ago.  Now we learn that Dawari may have been passing coded messages glued in religious books from a terrorist group which he allegedly then sent on to others.

I’ve looked around at several reports on the case and can’t find a photo of Dawari (if someone does, please send it and I’ll insert it), and I have found no mention of how he got into the US in 2008—he very well could have been a refugee (or a successful asylum seeker) in order to now be ready for citizenship so quickly.

Here is another story from earlier in the week which contains the indictment.

The feds really should check EBT records for his convenience store to see if there is any sign of trafficking in food stamps that might have yielded a windfall for a foreign terrorist group.

Asst. US Attorney Williams: the note appears to direct some urgent action.

From Philly.com yesterday (hat tip: ‘pungentpeppers’):

A 62-year-old Afghan doctor detained in Philadelphia this week on immigration fraud charges received and passed along coded messages from an anti-Western terror group with ties to al-Qaeda, federal prosecutors said.

At a court hearing Friday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams said FBI agents discovered the documents written in Pashto and hidden between glued pages of religious tracts mailed to Hayatullah Dawari’s Northeast Philadelphia home.

The package, intercepted during a January raid, came from Pakistan and included instructions to forward several books inside to various people across the United States.

A later search uncovered a coded message similar to that found in Dawari’s possession at the home of another associate in Philadelphia.

“The note, when translated from Pashto to English, appears to contain a message directing some urgent action,” Williams said.

[…..]

Dawari, his lawyer said Friday, worked as a doctor in his home country – cooperating with American Red Cross efforts as part of American military operations in Afghanistan – before moving to Philadelphia in 2008 [Could he have gotten into the US on a Special Immigrant Visa for those who helped the US in Afghanistan?—ed]. Since his arrival here, Dawari has become an active member of his mosque and a legal permanent resident, and was seeking citizenship to cement his life in America, Tinari said.

Though he recently became disabled, he worked for years as a convenience store clerk.

Maine: Rwandan war criminal sneaks across US/Canada border

It is not just our southern border being invaded. Here is news from Maine from earlier this past week.

Locals spotted the Rwandan near Houlton, Maine. He had been denied refugee status in Canada.

From Reuters at Yahoo.news:

BOWDOINHAM Maine (Reuters) – A Rwandan man accused of war crimes was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol in northern Maine after a local citizen reported a “suspicious person” walking near the Canadian border, law enforcement officials said on Thursday.

Jean Leonard Teganya, 42, a Rwandan who authorities said had violated international law and the Canadian Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act, walked across the border into the United States illegally on Sunday when he was spotted, according to a statement issued by the Department of Homeland Security.

He was later detained and processed for removal from the United States, a spokeswoman said.

Read it all.

And, here is another story on the apprehension.  See map here of where Houlton, Maine borders Canada.

This is not our first Rwandan war criminal by any means.  We posted extensively on a multi-million dollar federal trial in New Hampshire which ended last summer with a prison sentence for a Rwandan woman who lied to get into the US as a refugee but was then found to be a war criminal (and is alleged to have killed a nun).  See that post here and follow links back.

Philadelphia: Afghan convenience store clerk alleged to have terror ties

We don’t know if he is a refugee, but even so, he presumably got in here through one of our misguided legal immigration programs.  And, when the feds are at it they should check if any food stamp fraud was going on at the convenience store (was any of your money sent out of the country?).  LOL! Maybe he came across one of our borders?

Feds allege he lied. So what else is new?  From Philly.com (hat tip: Robin):

A convenience store clerk was charged today in federal court with immigration fraud for failing to disclose his ties to a terrorist group on an application for U.S. citizenship.

Hayatullah Dawari, 62, is an Afghan citizen who has lived in Northeast Philadelphia since 2008.

Dawari allegedly has a connection to Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin (HIG), an anti-Western insurgent group active in Afghanistan and Pakistan, said federal prosecutors. HIG, which is closely associated with al-Qaeda and the Taliban, took credit for a 2008 assassination attempt on Afghan President Hamid Karzai and has advocated for the establishment of a fundamentalist Islamic state, according to published reports.

In May 2013, a spokesman for HIG announced the group planned to step up its campaign of violent jihad to include more suicide attacks, according to the federal indictment.

Dawari, a permanent legal resident of the U.S., applied for citizenship in November 2013. On a required questionnaire, Dawari checked a “no” box when asked if he had ever been “a member of or associated with any organization, association, fund, foundation, party, club, society or similar group in the United States or in any other place?” The question requires the applicant to note any and all affiliations with professional, non-professional or religious organizations.

By the way, we brought (to a town near you) just over 600 “refugees” from Afghanistan this year so far, here.  Wow! Just noticed we have resettled over 7,000 Somalis as of July 31 as well!  Yikes!

Breitbart: It isn’t just “the children” getting in! Leaked report reveals huge potential security threat at US border

When you read this remember that large numbers of those arrested or detained will claim they want to seek asylum in the US.  Go here for the most recent (2012) Refugee and Asylees Annual Flow Report on the numbers we grant asylum to—Chinese top the list (Egyptians are second in recent years).  The Chinese are granted asylum when they claim they want to have more than one baby!

By the way, I don’t know why the Department of Homeland Security has not issued the 2013 Flow Report (are they trying to hide something?).

From Breitbart (hat tip: Nisi):

LUBBOCK, Texas — A leaked intelligence analysis from the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reveals the exact numbers of illegal immigrants entering and attempting to enter the U.S. from more than 75 different countries….

 [….]

The report reveals the apprehension numbers ranging from 2010 through July 2014. It shows that most of the human smuggling from Syria and Albania into the U.S. comes through Central America. The report also indicates the routes individuals from North Africa and the Middle East take into the European Union, either to illegally migrate there or as a possible stop in their journey to the United States. The data are broken down further into the specific U.S. border sectors where the apprehensions and contact occurred.

Among the significant revelations are that individuals from nations currently suffering from the world’s largest Ebola outbreak have been caught attempting to sneak across the porous U.S. border into the interior of the United States. At least 71 individuals from the three nations affected by the current Ebola outbreak have either turned themselves in or been caught attempting to illegally enter the U.S. by U.S. authorities between January 2014 and July 2014.

As of July 20, 2014, 1,443 individuals from China were caught sneaking across the porous U.S. border this year alone, with another 1,803 individuals either turning themselves in to U.S. authorities at official ports of entry, or being caught attempting to illegally enter at the ports of entry. This comes amid a massive crackdown by Chinese authorities of Islamic terrorists in the Communist nation.

Twenty-eight individuals from Pakistan were caught attempting to sneak into the U.S. this year alone, with another 211 individuals either turning themselves in or being caught at official ports of entry.

Thirteen Egyptians were caught trying to sneak into the U.S. this year alone, with another 168 either turning themselves in or being caught at official ports of entry.

Read it all!  Somalis get a mention.  Don’t miss our call for a Congressional investigation way back in January 2011 on the issue of who is helping poor/illiterate Somalis (and others) get to the US border and who is paying for it!  Some kid from Somalia couldn’t possibly ‘find his way’ to the US border by traveling through a half a dozen countries without a lot of help and a lot of money!

All of our coverage, extending back several years, on the ‘unaccompanied minors’ invasion is here.

Educational challenge: Many ‘unaccompanied alien children’ are teens who have never seen a computer and can’t count to ten!

As we have previously reported, and Breitbart (writing about a “fact sheet” from the Office of Refugee Resettlement) reiterated this week, most of the so-called “children” surging the border are teenaged males, see Breitbart here for the facts (hat tip: Joanne).

Here come the teens. Breitbart photo

And, see this AP report from Dalton, Georgia about the problems the school system there is facing with even the small number of mostly teenaged boys they have received.

From AP at Education Week (hat tip: ‘pungentpeppers’). Emphasis is mine:

DALTON, Ga. (AP) — The challenges presented by an influx of unaccompanied children and youths from Central America streaming across the southern border into the United States have reached Dalton.

Approximately 30 unaccompanied minors were admitted into the Dalton Public Schools district during the last school year, Superintendent Jim Hawkins said. It is not known whether more are coming with a new school year approaching.

[….]

The newcomers — mostly teenagers — are some of the hundreds of thousands of youths fleeing drug-related strife in their home countries, seeking asylum in America.

The majority of the youths sent to Dalton are from the Central American nations of El Salvador and Guatemala, Woodason said. Though the number of new students has not been unmanageable for the school system, the youths bring with them an entirely unique set of challenges for the district to address.

Dalton is 90 miles from Atlanta

“They have very, very limited amounts of education. In some cases, they cannot count to 10,” Woodason said. “They can’t turn on a computer. They’ve never even seen a computer. Also, they, in most cases, cannot speak English or Spanish.”

Mostly, the students speak Mam or another language specific to their region.

“There is no way these children can be in biology, U.S. history or any other high school course at our current schools,” Woodason said.

The lack of a traditional education, according to Jennifer Phinney, director of School Support, is due, simply, to the fact that the youths never needed it.

“Most of these students are from very, very rural places,” she said. “They are farmers and laborers, by tradition.”

The new students need to get out of high school by age 22 (!), so Dalton is setting up a “Newcomer Academy” to try to deal with the problem (imagine what all that will cost the local taxpayers!).  How many do you think will ever finish high school?
