Who says a “refugee” has a right to a life in a first world country?

Hmmm!  Good question!  We’ve been so beaten over the head with this concept—refugees and asylum seekers ask for/demand entry into an advanced society—we assume somehow it’s the law.

Israel’s MK Michal Rosin : “Israel is responsible for the fate of the asylum seekers …”

Two countries are challenging the premise—Australia and Israel.

If the refugees and asylum seekers are looking only for an escape from persecution, why not let other smaller, less-developed countries give them a home?

Readers remember this—migration for economic reasons does not make one a refugee.

Here is Immigration Minister Scott Morrison in Australia on Monday. The Leftists must be screaming in Canberra!

From the Sydney Morning Herald:

In his strongest indication yet that he is looking to send refugees to Cambodia, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison has warned that the right to resettlement is not a ticket to a better life in a first world country.

His warning has followed recent visits by Mr Morrison and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop to Cambodia, and has fuelled speculation the Abbott government is in negotiations to send asylum seekers on Nauru who are found to be refugees, to the developing country.

Mr Morrison said resettlement was about sending people to places where they would be free from persecution.

“I just don’t buy into this argument that only first world countries are able to participate in resettlement,” he told Sky News.

And in Israel, the Leftists are spitting mad as they learn some African asylum seekers (from Israel) are going willingly to Rwanda.   By the way, we learned previously that they are going with money in their pockets which this article does not mention.

From Haaretz via EastAfro (Israel Slammed for Sending Asylum Seekers to Rwanda without Status, Rights):

The government is facing criticism after Haaretz discovered that African asylum seekers from Eritrea and Sudan who agree to leave Israel voluntarily are being sent to Rwanda and Uganda without the benefit of official documentation or any guarantees of basic rights.

Asylum seekers who have been sent to these African countries have said that they do not receive any support from any government upon arrival, and that no one is doing anything to look after them.

About 10 days ago, Interior Minister Gideon Sa’ar said 81 asylum seekers have voluntarily left Israel for African states. The government has refused to say which countries are taking in the asylum seekers or to disclose other details of its agreements with these states.

MK Michal Rosin (Meretz) will convene an extraordinary session of the Knesset Committee on Foreign Workers, which she chairs, to discuss the agreements.

This is worth watching!  The UN High Commissioner for Refugees must be having a heart attack over this idea!  But, why not spread the refugee burden to less-developed countries?

By the way, I expect both Cambodia and Rwanda are receiving generous foreign aid from Australia and Israel, so now they are getting something in return!

Tennessee: housing market “unkind” to refugees/immigrants

Do we see a trend developing here!  It appears that the Open borders activists must have sent out talking points—tell the media that there is unfair treatment of refugees/asylum seekers and other migrants rampant in America!

We just now posted on the not-so-nice Minnesotans, here.  And, we have a story from Portland, Maine last week that we didn’t get to about problems asylum seekers are having with landlords there.

Hawa Abdullahi: We would like more low-income housing for our people. http://www.centerforrefugees.org/our-team/

Now comes the news from Nashville, a major resettlement site for Catholic Charities, that they are having problems with “fair housing” in that ‘welcoming’ city and surrounding counties.

Not mentioned, of course, are the problems that impoverished or disabled native Nashville area citizens are likely having getting housing when they have to compete with the immigrants!

From The Tennessean  (Hat tip: Joanne).  Emphasis is mine:

Immigrants and refugees in Nashville have more help than ever finding stable housing, but forces beyond their control have made life tougher in recent years.

Increasing apartment rental costs have been hard on international newcomers, said Hawa Abdullahi, social services coordinator with the Center for Refugees and Immigrants of Tennessee, at a conference on fair housing in Nashville.

“We have seen a lot of rent going up, which is hard for people to cover,” she said. “We see a lot of people getting pushed … moving to Antioch, Smyrna, and places like that. It’s really getting hard right now to find apartments.”

Abdullahi spoke about immigrant housing experiences as part of the Fair Housing Matters Conference. The fight against housing discrimination has taken on new urgency locally and across the nation because of increased federal funding and new directives meant to make housing available to all people.

Abdullahi described how the refugee families she works with struggle to get by on wages that rarely top $10 per hour.

The panelists said immigrants struggle to find housing because of language barriers, discrimination, poor credit histories, and limited options near public transit.

And refugees, in particular, arrive with debt. People approved by the U.S. government to move into America to escape persecution in their home countries, they receive financial assistance for eight months but must pay back the travel costs that move them to America in the first place.  [This plane fare issue is bogus—many just walk away from the debt.  What they never tell you is that the ‘church contractor’ (in this case Catholic Charities) gets to keep a portion of the loan if it is repaid!  Only a small portion of your tax dollars are reimbursed to the US treasury.–ed]

About 1,300 refugees are resettled in and around Nashville each year — with more than two-thirds joining families that already live here.   [Just a reminder readers, that when yours has become a “welcoming” city, the first refugees arriving apply to bring their family members.  It is called chain migration—ed]

[….]

“The city of Nashville is getting better. Definitely (officials) are aware Nashville is a destination for immigrants,” Morales said. “For surrounding counties, that’s a different story.”

Nashville has been such a hot spot over the years that we have a whole category designated just for Nashville, here, with 65 previous posts.  Nashville was recently chosen by the federal government as a “preferred community” for refugee resettlement, here.

Report: Minnesota not “nice” enough to refugees/illegal aliens

Our Minnesota readers will be angered (or rolling on the floor laughing) at this news!

Robin Phillips: Minnesotans violate refugees/migrants human rights!

From the Star Tribune (hat tip: Robin).  Emphasis is mine:

Despite a self-professed sense of acceptance of newcomers and a well-worn notion of “Minnesota Nice,” the state does not provide some of the most basic protections to the more than 350,000 immigrants and refugees living here, a new report claims.

From public safety policies that force immigrants to live in fear of deportation to some of the worst racial disparities in the nation in income, health, and educational outcomes, the failures undermine the state’s values and squander the potential resources newcomers can contribute, according to a report from the Advocates for Human Rights, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit.

The study, “Moving from Exclusion to Belonging,” looks at a number of federal policies that the report says have combined to create a sense of exclusion. Those include what it calls “meager provisions” of a maximum 90 days of assistance for refugees after arrival, and a six-month wait before asylum seekers become eligible to apply for a work permit.

[….]

“Laws, policies and practices exclude immigrants and refugees from full participation in our community and violate their human rights,” said Robin Phillips, executive director for the organization.

Read it all!

And, then you might want to revisit this old post from 2011, ‘Why so many Somalis in Minneapolis‘, where we learned that it was due to the “welcoming” social services in Minnesota that US resettlement contractors (Catholic Charities, Lutheran Social Services and World Relief)  have been pouring them into Minnesota for more than 25 years!   We recently learned that secondary migrants are flooding into Minnesota as well.

This is one of the strategies we see all too often—Leftists write reports and then use them as news hooks.

Australia would love for Cambodia to take some Australian asylum seekers

I’ve been remiss this past week in keeping up with the refugee problems facing other civilized countries because so much hot news has happened in the US.   Turning now to Australia:

Foreign minister Julie Bishop met with Cambodian prime minister in February. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-02-23/an-cambodian-minister-says-australia-has-requested-cambodia-to-/5278248

You gotta hand it to the conservative government in Australia for coming up with creative ideas to stem the tide of illegal aliens trying to break into Australia.

It makes me laugh to think of the Middle Easteners trying to reach Australia by boat, and who want Australians to take care of them, to be sent to Cambodia!  They will be safe there and isn’t that what they want?

From ABC News:

Prime Minister Tony Abbott says he would welcome a decision by Cambodia to accept asylum seekers from Australia.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison is in Cambodia, where he has held talks with the country’s interior minister to follow up on an earlier request for the country to help resettle asylum seekers.

In February, the Cambodian government revealed that Foreign Minister Julie Bishop had asked their country to accept some asylum seekers.

Read it all!

Hey, here is an idea!  Since Mexico is the 14th largest economy (by GDP out of 193 countries in 2012) in the world, let’s ask Mexico to take some of the tens of thousands of ‘asylum seekers’ who arrive on our borders!

Bishops suck-up to the media at US border to promote amnesty

Cardinal Sean O’Malley offers communion to people on the Mexican side of the international border, Tuesday, April 1, 2014, in Nogales, Ariz. Matt York / AP http://www.southcoasttoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20140401/NEWS/140409977

Brenda Walker writing at VDARE gives us a thorough report on the US Catholic Bishops’ publicity stunt at the Mexican border yesterday.

Calling Rush Limbaugh, read this!  The only issues where Catholic leaders are on the supposed ‘conservative’ side are abortion and gay marriage, for everything else they are the far Left! Obama does not need to win them over!

Walker (Conspirators in Cassocks) begins (emphasis mine):

Catholic bishops have accelerated their anti-American Open Borders crusade to fluff up their scandal-scarred morality cred in the Main Stream Media and to nudge “immigrants” (legality immaterial) to attend the church that supports ethnic separatism and disdains assimilation. Boston’s Cardinal Sean O’Malley and several bishops celebrated a photo-op Mass near the border today (April 1) to underline their dedication to “immigrants.” These conspirators in cassocks were also scheduled to tour a local shelter and visit with the Border Patrol.

Then she asks the questions MOST Americans ask:

They emphasized the suffering of the illegal invaders—with no recognition that successful invaders steal jobs that should by law go to Americans; and no mention of America’s 20+ million unemployed.

O’Malley et al.’s deeply selfish and solipsistic view of morality: Hispanic foreigners (Catholic) should be cut extra slack—even though their law-breaking hurts innocent Americans.

Why is the American taxpayer*** supposed to support law-breaking just because the perps are poor foreigners? We have plenty of homegrown folks in poverty.

Read it all, it is a very complete accounting of the Bishops’ key role in opening US borders to legal and illegal migrants.  Walker also mentions the sad story in Syracuse (25,784 people saw this post on our facebook page—wow!).

Rush read this, conservatives do not suck from the government teat!

***American taxpayers are footing the bill for almost the entire Bishops’ migration fund (here).

This is where the USCCB Migration and Refugee Services gets its money—mostly from the US taxpayer!  From their most recent published annual report, here (p.11).  The USCCB is effectively a federal agency!  They are the largest of the nine major federal refugee contractors.

Revenue (in rounded numbers)

Federal grants/contracts:  $66 million

Refugee travel loans (your tax dollars too):  $3.6 million

Total revenue:  $71 million (which leaves less than $1.5 million from private charitable giving)

If  ‘Comprehensive Immigration Reform’ should get through Congress, the Bishops federal take will quadruple as they become the “service provider” for the millions of newly amnestied.
