New Australian policy to detain asylum seekers not deterring desperate people

They say they are fleeing the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.  But, didn’t we just hear today that the Obama Administration doesn’t want to list the Taliban as a terrorist group?

Here, on the anniversary of 9/11, is today’s news about Hillary and Obama getting soft on the Taliban.

Washington, Sept. 11 (ANI): Days after the Obama administration designated the Pakistan based Haqqani network as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation, the U.S. has hinted that it is still undecided about placing the Taliban on its list of foreign terrorist groups.

“We do very intensive analysis before we designate someone as a foreign terrorist organisation, and I think I’ll let the designation speak for itself. We have reached that conclusion about the Haqqani Network and we think it’s the right decision,” The Nation quoted Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as saying.

The U.S. is seeking to engage the Taliban in negotiations to renounce violence and accept the Afghan Constitution to better the chances of peace following the planned withdrawal of U.S. combat troops in 2014. (ANI)

Here we have the news about asylum seekers, with no confidence that the Taliban will reform, arriving in Indonesia and ready to board boats for Australia.

REFUGEES from Afghanistan and Pakistan are still arriving in Indonesia en route to Australia despite the Gillard government’s ”no advantage” policy and the introduction of processing on Nauru.

The news suggests the policy is not a deterrent to asylum seekers leaving the war-torn South Asian countries.

It also contradicts the line from Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare that the recent influx of boats from Indonesia represented a ”closing-down sale” by people smugglers.

An Afghan refugee living in the town of Cisarua, south of Jakarta, told The Age yesterday that only days ago a new group of refugees had arrived after flying in from the city of Quetta in Pakistan.

”They are coming little by little. Four days ago, 20 people came to Jakarta airport,” said refugee Alemzadeh, who is in Cisarua waiting for a boat to Christmas Island.

”They know [about the new policy], but they don’t stop. They say it’s too dangerous to stay in Pakistan.”

[….]

”Everyone knows [about the drowning], but … they say ‘When I go back to my country, I am sure that Taliban or al-Qaeda or the other agents of the Taliban will detain me, kill me’,” he said.

Hillary needs to get on the horn and tell these people to not fear the Taliban because Obama said so.

Check out new Australian ad campaign to deter illegal aliens arriving in boats

As hundreds of new arrivals try to get to Australia by boat with many losing their lives in the process, Australia has launched an ad campaign to try to deter new arrivals.  Hat tip: mjazzguitar

This is something we could do as well if we ever got serious about our borders.   Instead we have immigration lawyers waiting at the border to help anyone caught to seek asylum using an ever increasing list of possible reasons for asylum.

Only two weeks after new Australian policy announced,1200 new “asylum seekers” have attempted to come ashore

By the way, as is the case worldwide, the majority of “asylum seekers” are in fact economic migrants looking for a better life.  But, they and their human traffickers have latched on to those words “refugees” and “asylum” knowing how most governments are too soft to turn them away.

Only a few weeks ago Australia’s Left leaning leader, Julia Gillard, announced a plan to intercept the illegal aliens arriving in boats and redirect them to Nauru and Papua New Guinea.   But, they aren’t ready to make the big move and actually do it.

From the Whitsunday Times:

MORE than 1200 asylum seekers have been intercepted trying to make it to Australia by boat since the Federal Government announced its intentions to re-open processing centres on Nauru and Manus Island.

Five boats carrying 388 people were intercepted by border protection vessels in the past two days, prompting Immigration Minster Chris Bowen to say it would take time for the new policy to work.

[…..]

The Federal Government adopted in-principle all 22 recommendations made by the expert panel on asylum seekers on August 13.

Legislation was passed in the Parliament that week reinstating offshore processing in Nauru and Papua New Guinea, two of the panel’s key recommendations.

Opposition leader calls the Gillard government out on its lack of preparedness.

Opposition immigration spokesman Scott Morrison used news of the latest boat arrivals and
revelations of a $650 million blow-out in detention centre costs to attack the government.

Mr Morrison again urged to government to implement “the full proven Howard government measures” – offshore processing, turning boats around and temporary protection visas.

He also questioned why asylum seekers were not being sent to Nauru or PNG.

“Last week, Julia Gillard and Chris Bowen again failed the test of resolve on border protection. They refused to ask Parliament to give them the green light they need to send asylum seekers to Nauru and Manus Island for processing.

“Right now they don’t have the power to send them anywhere and it will be another fortnight before they can get this power. In the meantime the boats continue to arrive,” Mr Morrison said.

Yikes! Meanwhile, they are indoctrinating the kids with the diversity is strength mythology!

SBS and Amnesty International take asylum seeker policy into schools.

I had to look up SBS (Seven Billion Stories).  It is some multicultural promotion media outfit.  I assume this program is similar to the one being peddled in the US by the Southern Poverty Law Center, here.

From World News Australia:

SBS, Amnesty International and the Refugee Council of Australia have partnered to create a free school resource pack to promote greater understanding of asylum-seeker experiences.

As the debate over asylum seeker policy and refugee issues is again in focus, SBS has partnered with Amnesty International and the Refugee Council of Australia to deliver a free education resource to all secondary schools across the country.

The Go Back to Where You Came From School Pack provides educational activities that aim to engage students with a deeper understanding of the complexity of refugee life and seeking asylum.

The Left is so good at propaganda.  As a matter of fact, we still see news accounts all the time of that lying “Welcome to Shelbyville” documentary being used around the US.

South Africa sending refugees to Australia!

And, news flash!  We are taking some too!

By definition refugees are people who claim persecution, leave their home country (where the persecution occurred) and seek asylum in a safe country.  They are not supposed to use “safe countries” as hopping off places to a better deal somewhere else, and that is what is happening with increased frequency worldwide.   (Search ‘Malta’ here at RRW to learn more about how that came to be.)

Nothing steams me more than the fact that we and other western countries are now taking black AFRICAN “refugees” from South Africa who claim that the Rainbow Nation is not safe for them.  Yet, heaven help the truly persecuted whites in South Africa.

I’ve written many posts over the years trying to expose the Rainbow Nation multicultural nirvana myth, but it seems that no one in the media is willing to face the reality of what the Rainbow Nation is!  Here is how wikipedia describes the term Rainbow Nation.  What a joke!

Rainbow Nation is a term coined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu to describe post-apartheid South Africa, after South Africa’s first fully democratic election in 1994.

The phrase was elaborated upon by President Nelson Mandela in his first month of office, when he proclaimed: “Each of us is as intimately attached to the soil of this beautiful country as are the famous jacaranda trees of Pretoria and the mimosa trees of the bushveld – a rainbow nation at peace with itself and the world.”

The term was intended to encapsulate the unity of multi-culturalism and the coming-together of people of many different nations, in a country once identified with the strict division of white and black.

Surprise!  Tribalism is alive and well in South Africa and diversity does not bring strength!

Here is the story that caught my attention about Australia (and other western countries) taking “refugees” from South Africa.  It begins and ends with the story of Congolese “asylum seekers” who have lived in South Africa for a decade (five of those years have been spent trying to get out).

After five years of hoping and waiting, Marie*, her husband Simeon* and their three children, refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, finally received a phone call telling them to pack their bags as they would be leaving South Africa for Australia at the end of the month.

Simeon was unconcerned by the short notice. “We’ve been ready for so long,” he told IRIN from the UN Refugee Agency’s (UNHCR) offices in Pretoria, where the family had just found out the name of the city they would be restarting their lives in. “Brisbane,” said Marie, testing the word on her lips for the first time. “Do you know where that is?”

The xenophobic violence that South Africa is experiencing is not coming from the white population but in many cases is leveled at whites as well as black African “foreigners.”  Of course, news reports never make that clear.  They can’t bring themselves to say that the blacks of Nelson Mandela’s supposedly victimized South Africa are now persecuting others!

Until a wave of xenophobic violence against foreigners erupted in South Africa in 2008, the country was considered fairly progressive in its treatment of refugees and asylum seekers, and as having little need for resettlement. Since that time, most of the cases that UNHCR refers for resettlement are victims of continued xenophobic attacks, many of them Somalis attempting to run businesses in low-income areas where their presence is viewed as a threat by local traders.

The Congolese family was rejected by the US and Canada before being “welcomed” by Australia (see previous post about Australia increasing its refugee numbers).  The UN went shopping for a country which would take them.

For a refugee desperate to escape an intolerable situation and make a fresh start, the process can feel endless, particularly if it concludes with a rejection. Dermegerditchian said more than 90% of the cases that UNHCR submits for resettlement in the southern Africa region are accepted, but Marie and her family were rejected by both the US and Canada before Australia agreed to take them.

Marie is convinced that they were rejected because two of their children suffer from haemophilia, a genetic disorder that impairs the body’s ability to control bleeding, but Dermegerditchian was reluctant to speculate. “Resettlement countries have their own criteria; they only inform us of the reasons for denial in general terms,” he said. “In some cases UNHCR needs to reinterview the refugee to make sure their stories are consistent. If we can’t find a problem, we resubmit their case to another country.”

After years of joblessness, denial of medical treatment for their children, and what they describe as constant xenophobia from their neighbours, Marie and Simeon’s relief to be leaving their home of the past decade is palpable. “The fact that they’re welcoming us [in Australia] – it frees you psychologically,” said Simeon.

Hundreds of supposed “refugees” from South Africa are already coming to the US!  That is news to me!

The Guardian article also informs us:

…. the US introduced a new security procedure*** last year, which delayed many cases, particularly those of Somalis and Iraqis, and saw the number of refugees resettled from South Africa drop from 387 in 2010 to 81 last year. “This year, things are moving much better and we’ve already had 220 departures,” he said.

Read the whole Guardian article, there is a lot in it.

If you check the numbers and nationalities of refugees arriving in the US here, you will note that there is no mention of those who came in from “safe” countries like South Africa and Malta to name just two.  Are we going to learn next that we are taking “refugees” from Greece, or the UK, or Italy?

For more on what we’ve said about South Africa and its multicultural nirvana myth, type “rainbow nation” into our search function.

* Marie and Simeon are not their real names and they don’t look like the kind of refugees who have caused crime rates to rise in Melbourne, here.

*** The new security procedures were instituted after the arrests of Iraqi refugees in Kentucky, one of whom plead guilty just this week of conspiring to help Al-Qaeda in Iraq, here.

Australia to take more refugees claiming it will deter illegal immigration….

….say what!

It was only a few days ago we learned that one city, Melbourne, is having a heck of a time with increased crime from its refugee population, here.  Yet, in what looks to me to be crazy logic, the Gillard government is planning to become the second largest refugee resettlement country in the world—after the US of course.

Government to people smugglers:  ‘come on guys, we increased the refugee quota so stop trying to make money by shipping in the illegals!’

From The Telegraph:

Australia said it would increase its annual refugee intake by 40 per cent to 20,000 a year, as part of a plan to deter people smugglers.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard said the rise, which was recommended by a recent expert inquiry into refugee policy, would include the immediate resettlement of 400 asylum-seekers from Indonesia as a gesture of goodwill

“We will be increasing our annual refugee intake from 13,750 to 20,000 places in this financial year,” Mrs Gillard said in a statement. The financial year began on July 1.

“This is a more than 40 percent increase to our humanitarian intake and the biggest boost to Australia’s refugee intake in 30 years.”

The boost, accompanied by a £6.8 million funding injection to regional refugee programmes, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia, is part of tough new policies aimed at stopping people-smuggling.

[….]

…the new quota would make Australia the world’s second-largest refugee resettlement country after the United States.  [for new readers: in recent years we’ve (US) taken about 70,000 refugees annually and in addition almost that number have been granted asylum—ed]

Next!  Australia taking refugees from South Africa (the Rainbow Nation!), and they aren’t the persecuted whites!

Oh, and one more thing, for all of you who say from time to time, I’m moving to Australia, forget it!
