Holder on Gitmo prisoner release: Let’s see do I tick off Europe or China?

I would call this being between a rock and a hard place.   Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters as noted by Fox News that some Guantanamo Bay prisoners might be resettled in the US.  Hat tip: Blulitespecial.

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric Holder said some detainees being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, may end up being released in the U.S. as the Obama administration works with foreign allies to resettle some of the prisoners.

We have been negotiating with various European countries to take some of the prisoners off our hands, but wisely some of those countries have asked how many we plan to take first.

European justice ministers met with Holder earlier this week and pressed for details on how many Guantanamo prisoners the U.S. planned to release domestically, as part of any agreement for allies to accept detainees. Holder said U.S. officials would work to respond to the questions European officials have over U.S. Guantanamo plans.

There are a “variety of options?”  Sure and each one is going to get the Obama Administration into deep you-know-what.

For “people who can be released there are a variety of options that we have and among them is the possibility is that we would release them into this country,” Holder said. “That process is ongoing and we’ve not made any determinations or made any requests of anybody at this point.”

Besides angering citizens in whatever community in the US is chosen to be the resettlement site, releasing prisoners such as the 17 Uighers into the US is going to really fry the Chinese who do not want them released and are demanding their ISLAMIC terrorists be returned to China, here and here.

Among the detainees whose fate remains undetermined are 17 ethnic Uighurs, from the Central Asian region of China, who have been ordered released by a judge. The U.S. has refused to turn the men over to China, which considers them part of an separatist group.

By the way, a pattern is beginning to emerge, the Obama Administration, and in this case (we are all cowards) Holder, is going after Sheriff Joe Arpaio to keep their far left base happy and maybe take the attention off of huge issues like this one.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, catch a tiger by the toe:   tick off the Europeans or tick off the Chinese, let’s see.

Can’t Grover Norquist stick to taxes?

Goodness knows with the Obama Administration taxing everyone everywhere wouldn’t you think Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform, had enough to keep him busy that he wouldn’t have to get into promoting Islamic causes.   As a matter of fact,  I was just saying to a fellow real conservative the other day that Mr. Norquist has been conspicuously absent in the battle to rein in government spending during this period of arguably the worst attack on taxpayers in our nation’s history.  Now I know why.

Our interest in Norquist’s activities go back to August 2007 when he and fellow conservatives were drumming up support for the Kennedy bill to expand Iraqi refugee numbers entering the US (here).

So, now what is he up to?  From Baron Bodissey at Gates of Vienna last week:

Grover Norquist is a conservative activist and the president of Americans for Tax Reform. He is also well-known in Washington D.C. circles as a friend of Islam. Since the 1990s he has held weekly “Wednesday meetings” in which he briefs fellow conservatives and helps plot strategy for the Republican party.

Pushing appeasement:

According to several attendees who were present at Grover Norquist’s Wednesday meeting, the participants — presumably including members of Congress — were offered paperback copies of the “Changing the Course” document (pdf), which outlines the steps needed to help the United States achieve reconciliation with the Muslim world.

Unfortunately for non-Muslims in the United States, this prescription involves more engagement and more appeasement. It calls for yet more dialogue with and respect for Islam, and includes a special emphasis on removing Hamas and Hezbollah from the list of terrorist groups so that they can be recognized as legitimate negotiating partners.

The involvement of Mr. Norquist’s group raises questions about of the extent of Islamist infiltration throughout the conservative NGO groups.

Mr. Bodissey then goes on to connect the dots and point out that at the country’s largest gathering of conservatives in Washington in recent memory, there was no discussion of Islamic terrorism, save the privately sponsored speech by Geert Wilders which Judy and I attended, here.

If anyone is curious why this year’s CPAC — which has just folded its tents — didn’t have a single panel on radical Islam or the war on terror, remember that Grover Norquist is on the board of the ACU, which sponsors CPAC.

In July 2008 we told you more about Mr. Norquist to help explain why a supposed tax reformer was busy promoting the resettlement of large numbers of Iraqi Muslims to the US, not exactly a fiscally responsible thing to do.  Incidentally Norquist’s group also lobbied for amnesty for illegals.   In that same July post we  told you about an extraordinary charge by normally mild-mannered Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch:

Grover Norquist has been responsible, more than any other individual, for the infiltration of Islamic supremacists into the highest levels of the U.S. government. See here the seminal expose by Frank Gaffney of the immense damage Norquist has done.

It’s a great mystery to me, why don’t conservatives recognize the elephant in the living room?

US pullout in Iraq will have unintended consequences for refugees

President Obama’s plan to pull us out of Iraq may have deadly consequences for thousands of Iranian dissidents who have sought shelter in Iraq where they were protected by American troops.

From the New York Times:

And in a remote part of northern Diyala Province, Iraqi soldiers surrounded a refugee camp for Iranian dissidents, Camp Ashraf, blockading food and water to the roughly 3,500 residents there. A spokesman for the dissidents’ group, the People’s Mujahedeen Organization of Iran, said Sunday that only the presence of Americans had prevented an attack on them.

[…..]

Far to the north, the Iranian refugees at Camp Ashraf have been a renewed source of concern ever since American forces handed over responsibility for the camp’s protection to the Iraqi Army on Jan. 1.

Last Friday, however, Iraqi forces surrounded the camp and cut off supplies, according to Shahin Gobadi, a spokesman for the dissidents, reached by telephone in Paris. Then, on Sunday morning, the refugees resisted an attempt by Iraqi soldiers to enter one of the camp’s buildings, leading to scuffles and beatings of residents that stopped only when American officers there as observers intervened.

“If the Americans leave, you will see a very serious human catastrophe and a massacre in this camp,” said a camp spokesman, Shahriar Kia, who was reached by telephone. So far, though, no one has been seriously injured or killed.

Whew!  Who knew!  If the refugees are killed that won’t look so good for Obama.

Joe defiant: “I am not going to be intimidated by the politics and by the Justice Department”

I told you not long ago that the Obama Administration would be coming after Joe—Joe Arpaio, the successful sheriff of Maricopa County in Arizona.    The open borders crowd, using Alinsky’s rule 13, have gone after Sheriff Arpaio and thus all of the rest of us who believe that out-of-control immigration is killing America.

From US News and World Report in an article entitled: “Obama’s line in the sand on immigration enforcement.”

Civil rights leaders and immigration reform advocates met in Washington yesterday to applaud the announcement that Joe Arpaio, the publicity-seeking sheriff whose immigration sweeps and harsh treatment of prisoners in Arizona’s Maricopa County have raised eyebrows at both ends of the political spectrum, is now the subject of a Department of Justice investigation.

Arpaio received a letter earlier this week from the office of the U.S. attorney general informing him that his department, which polices a broad area including Phoenix and its suburbs, was being investigated for suspected civil rights violations, including “discriminatory police practices and unconstitutional searches and seizures … [as well as] allegations of national origin discrimination.”

According to civil rights experts, the investigation, one of the few times the government has ever conducted a civil rights investigation into a local police agency’s immigration enforcement practices, could be a sign of things to come, as the Obama administration moves toward more comprehensive immigration reform.

Read it all, and then stand up for Joe!

Obama, Alinsky and Limbaugh

Sometimes blogs go around in circles with each other. In the “back room” of Refugee Resettlement Watch we can see our statistics — how many people visit us each day, and if they came here from other websites. Our blog platform, Word Press, has a neat feature that automatically generates links to “possible related posts” to posts on other Word Press blogs. That’s how we get some of our commenters who disagree with us, or who agree with us. Today we’re getting a few visitors from a blog called Cinie’s World, so I clicked on the link and found an interesting post called “Alinsky-izing Limbaugh.” Word Press had put up a link to one of Ann’s Alinsky posts at the bottom.  Cinie has the Obama-Alinsky connection down pat. She begins:

The mainstream blogosphere, as opposed to the grassroots blogosphere, like the PUMAsphere, is slowly waking up to the fact that the country is being community organized through Astroturf by those promoting the “surprisinly liberal” guy who ran his campaign for the president as the person who was going to change Washington, politics and the country from the ground up.  Duh.  I keep wondering just what the heck these previously clueless KoolAid drunks, now slowly emerging from their self-induced haze, were thinking for the past two years.  Were they freaking deaf, dumb and blind?  The President Formerly Known As Barry has been spouting Alinsky and using his “get in your face“  tactics to promote his clear agenda all along.  “Change the system” is pretty unambiguous.

I recommend you read the whole post. I clicked on the “About” link to see who Cinie is, and found this:

I am a black, female, lifelong Democrat who changed party affilliation to “none” after the Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting, May 31, 2008.  To that point, the Democratic Party nominating process stank; afterwards, it reeked.  To date, I am uncertain as to whom I will vote for, the only thing I’m sure of is, it won’t be Barack Obama.  While that currently puts me in the minority racially, it is my firm belief that my brothers and sisters will “wake up and get it” after Obama is elected, if such a fate was to unfortunately befall America.

She was a Hillary supporter, not a conservative. So it’s especially interesting that she sees through Obama so clearly and is not supporting him, even though much of his agenda is similar to Hillary’s. Anyone who connects Obama to Alinsky would have to be pretty cynical or America-hating to support him and his wretched plans for us, and Cinie is neither.  Let’s hope there are lots of other Democrats who are as clear-sighted and honest as Cinie.
