Human rights activists complain about stricter asylum rules…

….but don’t get too excited about the possibility that the Obama Administration is seeing the light because as we learned last week, thousands of illegals who entered the country this past summer aren’t even showing up for court!

Thousands have just disappeared into the woodwork of America presumably planning to wait it out until Obama and Congress give them amnesty!

From the Wall Street Journal (hat tip Richard):

Watch Eleanor Acer of Human Rights First testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Asylum fraud last February. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mxDxtHAszU

Immigrants who enter the country illegally are becoming less likely to be deemed eligible for asylum, as federal authorities tighten standards amid an increase in Central American migrants this year.

As an initial step to request asylum, apprehended migrants who say they are scared to go back to their home country are screened to determine if they have “credible fear” of persecution or torture. In July, the most recent month available, 63% of those who claimed they were afraid to return were found to have met that criterion, down from 83% six months earlier, according to a report released to immigrant-rights groups by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

The decline comes after the agency’s Asylum Division toughened the criteria its officers use during the interviews. The goal of the new guidelines, according to an agency official, is to ensure that immigrants with little to no chance of obtaining asylum in immigration court are quickly sent home.

Immigrant advocates say the tougher screening criteria are preventing many immigrants from being able to make a case for asylum before a judge.

“It’s turning away people who may very well have been entitled to asylum protection,” said Eleanor Acer, refugee protection director at Human Rights First, a New York-based nonprofit group.

The Asylum Division is one of many federal agencies that have been taxed by an influx of tens of thousands of immigrants who have illegally entered the country from Central America this year, many saying they were seeking refuge from gang violence and poverty. From October to June, the Asylum Division received 36,334 credible-fear claims from immigrants, surpassing the 36,035 in the 12 months of fiscal 2013, data from the office shows. Immigrants from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras accounted for the majority of the claims.

The office is responsible for screening migrants apprehended at the border, asking, for example, whether they are being persecuted because they belong to a specific social group or feel threatened because of their race or religion. If their claims are credible, the immigrants are referred to immigration court, where a judge ultimately decides whether they qualify for asylum or other protection. Immigrants who go through that process, which can take years, are sometimes released in the U.S. until their cases are resolved.

Unaccompanied children arriving from Central America don’t go through the credible-fear process, as they are routed to the court system directly.

Now be sure to see Hot Air last week where we learned that 70% of the families ordered to appear for a hearing never showed up!

DHS secret revealed: Tens of thousands of illegals released during the border crisis didn’t show up for their immigration hearings

Big smooch from Eleanor to Grover!

About the photo and Acer’s testimony to Congress:  I had to laugh when I watched the clip because she praises and enters into the record the Grover Norquist/Suhail Khan Republicans-want-more-refugees letter which we reported here.

Chinese, pretending to be persecuted Christians, caught at the US border

Cheat sheet!  Where was Jesus born? Name his apostles! When is Christmas?

It isn’t just the “children” from Central America streaming across the wide open US southern border as this ABC News team discovered.  Hat tip: ‘pungentpeppers.’

Sign at the US border. http://patdollard.com/2014/08/usmexico-border-signs-posted-for-illegals-increasingly-written-in-chinese/

From ABC-13 Eyewitness News (emphasis is mine):

But children are only part of the story.

And ABC-13 saw first hand why. As the Ted Oberg Investigates team was walking with Border Patrol agents along the trees and scrub brush about 500 feet from the Rio Grande, a group of nine men wandered out of a thicket.

The nine were from China.

With the help of ABC-13 colleague Miya Shay translating on the phone ABC-13 learned the men said that they are from various provinces in China. They first flew to France, they said — it was unclear if they were smuggled — and then to Mexico.

They were then taken across the Rio Grande in a boat to the shores of Texas near where ABC-13 was walking.

“China? They will pay somewhere from 30 to 40 thousand dollars to be smuggled,” Bidegain said. “They came through the same network in Mexico as everyone else.”

Unlike the children who swim across, these men were dry. They carried water in plastic soda bottles.

They also were prepared in another way.

ABC-13 found a document one of the men had dropped in the brush. It was a Christian checklist, with answers to questions such as, “Where was Jesus born, where did he grow up,” “Jesus had how many apostles.. what are their names,” and “When is Christmas.”

There are also hand-written scribbles on the bottom of the note. The name the founder of a local church. A reference to 1922, the year the church was founded. And the location of the church, Fuzhou, China.

Border Patrol agents said this makes it appear they were likely coached to tell agents that they wanted to seek asylum in the US because they were Christian with credible fear of persecution in their home province of China.

“A lot will claim to be Christian,” Bidegain said. “They are coached on the story.”

And it’s not just the Chinese.

There is more, read it all.

As we have previously reported, Chinese “asylum seekers” are the most fortunate of all would-be political refugees reaching our shores on their own—-the largest number of successful asylum seekers in the US are Chinese. See Homeland Security’s ‘Annual Flow Report’ (page 6) for stats, here.  As far as I can tell this 2012 report is the most recent one available.  Where is 2013???

Breitbart: It isn’t just “the children” getting in! Leaked report reveals huge potential security threat at US border

When you read this remember that large numbers of those arrested or detained will claim they want to seek asylum in the US.  Go here for the most recent (2012) Refugee and Asylees Annual Flow Report on the numbers we grant asylum to—Chinese top the list (Egyptians are second in recent years).  The Chinese are granted asylum when they claim they want to have more than one baby!

By the way, I don’t know why the Department of Homeland Security has not issued the 2013 Flow Report (are they trying to hide something?).

From Breitbart (hat tip: Nisi):

LUBBOCK, Texas — A leaked intelligence analysis from the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reveals the exact numbers of illegal immigrants entering and attempting to enter the U.S. from more than 75 different countries….

 [….]

The report reveals the apprehension numbers ranging from 2010 through July 2014. It shows that most of the human smuggling from Syria and Albania into the U.S. comes through Central America. The report also indicates the routes individuals from North Africa and the Middle East take into the European Union, either to illegally migrate there or as a possible stop in their journey to the United States. The data are broken down further into the specific U.S. border sectors where the apprehensions and contact occurred.

Among the significant revelations are that individuals from nations currently suffering from the world’s largest Ebola outbreak have been caught attempting to sneak across the porous U.S. border into the interior of the United States. At least 71 individuals from the three nations affected by the current Ebola outbreak have either turned themselves in or been caught attempting to illegally enter the U.S. by U.S. authorities between January 2014 and July 2014.

As of July 20, 2014, 1,443 individuals from China were caught sneaking across the porous U.S. border this year alone, with another 1,803 individuals either turning themselves in to U.S. authorities at official ports of entry, or being caught attempting to illegally enter at the ports of entry. This comes amid a massive crackdown by Chinese authorities of Islamic terrorists in the Communist nation.

Twenty-eight individuals from Pakistan were caught attempting to sneak into the U.S. this year alone, with another 211 individuals either turning themselves in or being caught at official ports of entry.

Thirteen Egyptians were caught trying to sneak into the U.S. this year alone, with another 168 either turning themselves in or being caught at official ports of entry.

Read it all!  Somalis get a mention.  Don’t miss our call for a Congressional investigation way back in January 2011 on the issue of who is helping poor/illiterate Somalis (and others) get to the US border and who is paying for it!  Some kid from Somalia couldn’t possibly ‘find his way’ to the US border by traveling through a half a dozen countries without a lot of help and a lot of money!

Vermont “refugee” agency closes its doors due to lack of funding; helped illegals get into Canada

Gee, just when we were hoping Vermont might take all of the tens of thousands of illegal alien children surging across our border (their elected officials all say they are “welcoming!”), one of their illegal alien support groups has run out of money.

I’m guessing the ORR (Office of Refugee Resettlement), which has been sending your money to this group, is cutting funds to little dogs like this one because the big-dog contractors*** are monopolizing all of the federal dollars especially since they even have Washington, DC lobbyists helping them acquire your money.

Little outfits like this one—Vermont Immigration and Asylum Advocates—which prides itself for helping illegal aliens reach Canada are just being out-competed in the federal grant wars.

So, while we are on the subject of the asylum racket (see previous post this morning), from Seven Days:

VIAA director Jenness will now go to another immigrant ‘advocacy group’— Association of Africans Living in Vermont

Long-simmering immigration issues boiled up again recently as tens of thousands of Central American children crossed into the U.S. Some of approximately 57,000 unaccompanied minors who have made the journey since last October could land in Vermont. Gov. Peter Shumlin has expressed a desire to help house them, while also noting that the state lacks the large facilities that federal officials are seeking.

In the past, Burlington-based Vermont Immigration and Asylum Advocates, the state’s leading authority for refugees seeking asylum for 30 years, would likely have been preparing to spring into action, representing the children in court and helping them adjust to their new surroundings.

But, they have run out of money:

VIAA had less than $108,000 in revenues in 2012, according to publicly available tax records. The federal Office of Refugee Resettlement contributed more than half of that. VIAA’s second largest chunk of revenue came from individual donors, who collectively kicked in more than $19,000. Several organizations, including the Vermont Bar Foundation and the Sisters of Mercy, contributed as well.

They proudly worked with “friendly” border guards to get illegal aliens into Canada:

The organization launched in 1987 as Vermont Refugee Assistance, to support refugees who had fled civil wars in Central and South America. Most were in Vermont en route to Canada, which has historically been more receptive to asylum seekers than the U.S.

In the old days, Jenness said, friendly border guards would tip them off when people had difficulty crossing into Canada. She and other staffers carried pagers so they could fetch and house those refugees who needed help.

They also did those phony-baloney asylum cases:

The organization gradually evolved into what essentially became a pro bono legal clinic, representing detained immigrants — who are not eligible for public defenders and often face removal hearings without attorneys — and asylum seekers, who have to navigate a complex legal landscape.

Great, now this is something to really toot your horn about!

They made the national news for helping hundreds of Pakistanis trapped at the US/Canadian border due to changing laws (laws probably related to national security after 911).  If the Pakistanis had nothing to hide, why were they running to Canada?

The group made national news in 2003 when it assisted hundreds of immigrants, mostly Pakistanis, who sought asylum in Canada after the United States enacted new laws forcing them to undergo a special registration process with federal officials. Nervous about getting arrested or deported, many of the Pakistanis tried to flee to Canada but became stuck in Vermont after Canada enacted a new law allowing its border agents to send asylum-seekers back to the United States while their cases were pending.

There is more, it’s a long story and I only snipped a small portion of it.

Honestly, let’s send all of the ‘unaccompanied alien children’ to Vermont.  There isn’t a more deserving state!  It could be the Petri dish of sorts—we could find out what size immigrant population will crash the economy of a state and be the “tipping point” for the American public’s patience.

Owners of dogs which killed jogger were asylum frauds, should have been deported by now

I’m sure you all heard the story on the news that a jogger was mauled and killed by dogs in rural Metamora, Michigan late last month.  Due to some excellent reporting at the Detroit Free Press we now know that the owners of the dogs were political “refugees” (she from Albania) who should have never been allowed into the US and were expected to be deported (sometime in the future).

Unofficial RRW crime investigator ‘pungentpeppers’ spotted this story that goes beyond the original headlines.

The Albanian woman lied and bribed greedy immigration officials in New York.  What!  asylum seekers lie? Officials take bribes? You betcha, have we forgotten the Boston bomber asylees so quickly!   And, you can bet clever immigration lawyers are working up some whoppers for the border crashing “children” at this very moment.

From the Detroit Free Press:

The Metamora couple whose dogs killed a jogger last week are in the U.S. illegally and were facing imminent deportation at the time of the attack.

Valbona Lucaj, 44, got into the country from Albania in January 1997 after bribing an immigration officer into granting her asylum, according to federal court filings. Her Italian husband, Sebastiano Quagliata, 45, arrived a month earlier as a tourist and never left.

Jogger Sytsma is dead, the dogs soon will be dead, and the alien creeps will probably do time in prison on the US taxpayer’s dime all due to our deeply flawed asylum system. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/07/25/dogs-killed-jogger-neighbors-react/13192027/

The two are potentially facing involuntary manslaughter charges after their Cane Corso dogs attacked and killed Craig Sytsma, 46, of Livonia on July 23 as he jogged past their home on a rural Metamora Township road. Lapeer County prosecutors are expected to announce a decision on criminal charges this week. It is unclear what, if any impact, their citizenship status will have on possible prosecution.

The couple have been fighting deportation for years since immigration officials discovered that Lucaj had paid $3,000 to an immigration officer in New York to grant her asylum. That asylum was then granted to Quagliata because he was her spouse.

But on March 31 of this year, U.S. District Judge Gerald Rosen refused to stop their deportation, siding with immigration officials who said that Lucaj “lacked good moral character arising out of fraud in obtaining asylum.”

The pair repeatedly lied to immigration officials as they sought asylum and then naturalization, according to the files.

There is much more, read it all.

For new readers, the asylum process is for people who get their feet on American soil and then claim they are persecuted back home for: race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion (the Albanian woman in this story said she was persecuted for being Catholic in a largely Muslim country).  If granted asylum they get all the social service goodies and all the rights, including a path to citizenship that regular “refugees” (which the UN and the US State Department selected abroad and brought here) receive.

Earlier this year, the New York Times (of all places!) published a huge investigative story about the amount of asylum fraud among the Chinese in New York. Then there is that Russian gay asylum fraud racket.

The whole asylum system that the anti-borders people are pushing for the ‘unaccompanied alien children’ to enter is, in my view, rotten to the core.
