CIS: High levels of LEGAL immigration will erode Republican Party

It is pretty simple math.  Most immigrants vote for Democrats who promise them stuff, or they come from cultures where government gives them stuff and expect it here as well.  Pat Buchanan penned a whole book on the numbers, here, a few years ago.

The Center for Immigration Studies confirms in a new report that Buchanan is right—with increased legal immigration, conservative, small government voters will be simply outnumbered.

And, my personal view is that GOP RINOs can’t convert Hispanics to Republicans fast enough to save themselves without drastically reducing the numbers of LEGAL migrants entering the US.  And, heck they can barely say no to illegal aliens, imagine any of the Republican leadership having the testicular fortitude to slow LEGAL immigration.

Here is a CIS press release earlier this week (emphasis is mine):

WASHINGTON, DC (April 15, 2014) — The nation’s prolonged flow of legal immigration has changed – and continues to change – the political landscape. A new Center for Immigration Studies report, “Immigration’s Impact on Republican Political Prospects, 1980 to 2012”, finds that each one percentage-point increase in the immigrant share of a large county’s population reduces the Republican share of the two-party presidential vote by an average of nearly 0.6 percentage points.

This shift is relatively uniform throughout the country, from California to Texas to Florida, regardless of the local party’s stance on immigration. It is due to immigrant communities’ lopsided support for big-government policies, which are more closely aligned with progressives than with conservatives. As a result, survey data show a two-to-one party identification with Democrats over Republicans. Increased immigration also significantly expands the low-income population [ie. refugees—ed], making voters overall more supportive of redistributive policies championed by Democrats to support disadvantaged populations.

“As the immigrant population has grown, Republican electoral prospects have dimmed, even after controlling for alternative explanations of GOP performance,” wrote James Gimpel, author of the report and a professor of government at the University of Maryland at College Park. “Republicans are right to want to attract Latino voters,” he continued. “But expanding the flow of low-skilled immigrants into an economy ill-suited to promote their upward mobility will be counterproductive.”

Over one million legal immigrants enter the United States each year. If this number were drastically increased, as called for by the Gang of Eight bill (S.744), the decline of the Republican Party would be accelerated. “The impact of immigration is easily sufficient, by itself, to decide upcoming presidential elections,” Gimpel wrote.

And, what is so maddening to me is that we taxpayers are footing the bill for the invasion!

CIS: US asylum system fosters fraud

Hot off the presses at the Center for Immigration Studies is a new report: ‘Asylum in the United States: How a finely tuned system of checks and balances has been effectively dismantled.’

Here is what CIS says about it in a press release today:

WASHINGTON, DC (March 26, 2014) — The erosion of checks and balances in the U.S. asylum system, designed to prevent fraud, has led to the nearly tripling of claims for asylum. A Center for Immigration Studies report examines the increased applications as well as the rubberstamping of these applications.

The number of applicants passing the preliminary “credible fear” test nearly tripled from 2012 to 2013, and has increased nearly 600 percent since 2007. Once the applicant receives asylum, they receive access to all major welfare programs.***

Author of the report, Dan Cadman, a retired INS/ICE official: They have learned how to game the system.

Fraud accounts for much of the increase. According to a DHS internal report, 70 percent of asylum applications examined were fraudulent or had strong indicators of fraud. With such a high rate of fraud, it is alarming that DHS statistics show a positive credible fear finding in 92% of all cases decided on the merits.

The CIS report finds that the Senate comprehensive immigration bill would do much to exacerbate the existing problem. Among the list of changes would be the allowing of previous asylum fraudsters to re-apply and allowing asylum to be granted instantly upon application, before any vetting occurs.

Dan Cadman, author of the report and fellow at the Center, said, “Many illegal immigrants have learned how to game the system by applying for asylum as a means of prolonging their time in the United States. If a claimant can pass the preliminary credible fear test they can buy themselves months, often years, living and working legally in the United States. A system designed to stem fraud and abuse has been undone by executive action, agency inaction, and judicial activism.”

Cadman provides nine recommendations of how Congress and the Department of Homeland Security can curb abuses, and set the asylum program on track to function as it was intended. He endorses, for example, a program of routine audits of both credible fear findings and formal asylum grants, which would include investigations of cases found to involve fraud or the withholding of material information.

“Gaming the system” is a worldwide problem as we have learned recently in our “invasion of Europe” series.

***An afterthought:  once someone is granted asylum, as mentioned here, they are given all of the same access a refugee has to welfare goodies, and they can expect ‘service’ from the federal refugee contractors.  Thus those contractors are lobbying for the so-called Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill because it means an expansion of their “services” and more federal grants coming their way!

Center for Immigration Studies challenges legality of Obama Administration’s relaxation of security screening for refugees

Another case where Obama used his pen? (or his minions did!)

We told you yesterday that Obama, bowing to international pressure and lobbying from refugee resettlement contractors anxious to bring in thousands of Syrians this year, has relaxed a security screening law put in place after 9/11, here.

Now, we see, that the Center for Immigration Studies is challenging his legal right to do that.

From Catholic Online:

Former State Department official and current director of policy studies for the Center for Immigration Studies Jessica Vaughan questioned the administration’s right to unilaterally change the law.

“[T]here is a very legitimate question as to whether the administration actually has the authority to change the law in this way,” Vaughan wrote in an email. “It seems to me that they are announcing that they will be disregarding yet another law written by Congress that they don’t like and are replacing it with their own guidelines, which in this case appear to be extremely broad and vague, and which are sure to be exploited by those seeking to game our generous refugee admissions program.”

While Vaughan admitted that there are a number of immigrants seeking protection who have been denied due to unintentional contact with terrorists, she sees the exemptions as likely another opportunity for people to bypass the system.

“If the recent past is any guide, those evaluating these cases will be ordered to ignore red flags in the applications, especially if the applicant is supported by one of the many advocacy groups that have the ear of senior DHS staff,” she explained.

“The administration already approves of the admission of gang members as asylees and criminals in the DACA program and grants of prosecutorial discretion, so I don’t expect them to be troubled by the admission of terrorists and garden variety fraudsters in our refugee program.  This is how we end up with families like the Tsarnaev brothers [the Boston marathon bombers], who were originally admitted for political asylum.”

Just a reminder it was the federal refugee contractors complaining to a Senate hearing in January, here, that refugees were being held up for admission because they gave a “sandwich to a terrorist”  (one of the US’s favored terrorists in Syria), that got this done!  One group testifying was the US Conference of Catholic Bishops which said that it wants 15,000 Syrians admitted ASAP!

CIS: Amnesty bill combined with legal immigration will add estimated 32 million new voters by 2036

The Center for Immigration Studies has just released a new report.  The press release accompanying the report begins with this (emphasis is mine):

WASHINGTON, DC (October 10, 2013) — The Center for Immigration estimates that if the Senate Gang of Eight Immigration bill (S.744) becomes law it will add more than 17 million new potential voting-age citizens by 2036. These new potential voters are in addition to the roughly 15 million that the current level of legal immigration will add by 2036. Combined, current immigration and S.744 would create more than 32 million potential voters by 2036.

To place these figures in perspective, the last four presidential elections were decided by 4.5 million votes on average. Even if only a modest share actually vote, the impact of these new votes on future elections will likely be substantial.

Dr. Steven Camarota, CIS Director of Research and author of the publication, comments, “Current immigration policy is adding millions of new voters each decade; the Gang of Eight bill will add millions more.  This is one of the most important consequences of immigration.  Will it result in voters who need or want more government services? [You betcha!—ed] Or, will it reshape American foreign policy? There has been almost no discussion of the impact on the electorate.”

USCRI: Hiring a refugee (instead of an American) is good for a business’s bottom line!

Geeez!  I had no idea that they had the audacity to spell out on their website how hiring a refugee trumps hiring an American, and the employment service this refugee contractor offers is FREE!

First, a little background.  USCRI stands for US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants. It is one of nine major federal refugee contractors.  It’s head honcho is Lavinia Limon who coincidentally headed Bill Clinton’s Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) when Clinton brought Bosnians to Iowa for laborers for the meatpackers (just mentioned it here yesterday when I told you about Columbus Junction, Iowa.)  Type ‘Lavinia Limon’ into our search function for more.

As Limon revolved out the ORR door to her job as a federal contractor, USCRI’s Veep, Eskinder Negash, revolved in and now heads the Office of Refugee Resettlement in the Department of Health and Human Resources which gives out grants to USCRI.  Handy huh!

And USCRI sure does get the federal grants!

According to the most recent Form 990 (p.9) available for Ms. Limon’s USCRI they received 94% of their $35 million plus income from you—the taxpayer. So much for that public-private partnership mumbo-jumbo!

So, their services might be FREE to businesses, but not FREE to you!
