California: Iraqi Refugee Faces Deportation for Lying on Refugee Application

Can you believe it—he lied say the feds and has to go!

Nevertheless, he has gained a fan club that is working to keep him here.

This is the story at the Sacramento Bee:

Federal immigration officials moving to deport Omar Ameen back to Iraq

May 5—Iraqi refugee Omar Ameen is facing deportation proceedings despite a Sacramento judge’s ruling last month that there was not enough evidence to extradite him back to his home country to face trial in the slaying of a police officer there, officials confirmed Wednesday.

Ameen, 47, had been in the Sacramento County Main Jail since his 2018 arrest in the extradition case, and his lawyers expected him to be released April 21 after the judge’s finding.

Instead, Ameen was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and is now facing deportation proceedings on the grounds that he allegedly lied on his applications to come to the United States as a refugee, ICE said in a statement Wednesday.

The statement notes that, at the same time Ameen was arrested by FBI agents in the extradition case, ICE charged him “based on misrepresentations on applications for admission.”

“Ameen is in ICE custody pending removal proceedings,” the statement said.

[….]

Prosecutors also accuse Ameen of lying on his refugee resettlement forms about how his father died, saying in court records that Ameen claimed his father was “shot dead” for assisting the American military.

“In actuality, the death certificate for Abdulsattar Ameen (which Ameen did not submit with any of his applications) indicates he died from natural causes—a cerebral clot—on December 25, 2010,” court records say.

“Ameen’s claim that his father was killed due to his possible assistance to military forces is a fiction, and his refugee application was approved in part on the basis of this false claim,” the court records say, adding that Ameen also lied about his father’s supposed ties to Al Qaeda in Iraq and other relatives’ ties to terror.

Of course they lie!

“When asked in his written Sworn Statement in support of his refugee application ‘Have you ever engaged in . . . any other form of terrorist activity? Ameen answered ‘no,'” the court records say. “In actuality, Ameen is alleged to have engaged in various forms of terrorist activity, from 2004 through his departure from the region for the United States in 2014.”

The records say that because Ameen allegedly lied about ties to terror groups he was granted permission to move to the United States under false pretenses.

Here is one of several posts I wrote about Ameen in 2018:

Surprise! (Not!) Trump DOJ finds another Islamic terrorist refugee living in US—an Iraqi this time!

Alabama: Iraqi Refugee Ordered Deported, Lied on Refugee Application

So what else is new!  Of course, many of them lie. The only difference is that once in a blue moon one is caught!

I have a couple of stories this morning that could be posted either here or at ‘Frauds and Crooks!’  This one, and then up next Rep. Ilhan Omar story breaks internationally.

From Fox10:

Mobile man who lied about Iraqi military record avoids prison – but loses something more valuable

Holy cow! He had been in Saddam Hussein’s Army for 20 years! So much for the much ballyhooed “robust vetting” of refugees.

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – An Iraq native who lied about his military record to get into the United States avoided prison Friday but lost something more valuable – his American citizenship.

Do you suspect someone is committee refugee/asylum fraud. Here is where you can report it: https://www.uscis.gov/report-fraud/combating-fraud-and-abuse-in-asylum-program

Saad Taha Ahmed lived a quiet life in southwest Alabama for nearly a decade as a refugee from war-torn Iraq. U.S. officials granted him refugee status in 2010 and placed him in Mobile.

Ahmed, whose full name is Saad Taha Ahmed Yousif Al-Qaysy, became a legal permanent resident in 2011 and got citizenship in 2015.

Then investigators discovered Ahmed’s secret – he was not a victim of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s military; he was a member of it.

On Friday, Chief U.S. District Judge Kristi DuBose sentenced Ahmed to three years’ probation for the fraud and ordered that his citizenship be revoked.

“It sounds like you did what you did for your family,” the judge said. “But you still violated the law, and you applied for citizenship under false pretenses.”

After the hearing, a U.S. Border Patrol agent took the defendant into custody and indicated he would be put into deportation proceedings.

[….]

In his written plea agreement, Ahmed admitted that he concealed the full extent of his military service, telling American officials in his refugee application that he was in the army only from 1987 to 1991 to fulfill compulsory military service.

In fact, according to court documents, he entered the army in 1983 and remained for 20 years until the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. During those two decades, Ahmed rose to the rank of colonel, the most senior officer position short of general.

More here.

Looking around for additional information, I found this Court document that says the government initially attempted to seal the case against Saad Taha Ahmed Yousif Al-Qaysy.

If someone wants to write a book, I have over 650 posts on Iraqi refugees going back a dozen years archived here at RRW.  Of course, Iraqis represent one of the largest movements of Middle East migrants to the US in the last decade.

Boo hoo! Canada’s boy wonder, Justin Trudeau, has immigration problems too

If you’ve forgotten all about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s now infamous 2017 tweet inviting refugees to Canada to stick it to President Trump, I’m here to remind you!

trudeau-tweet

Canada’s 2019 election is expected to be contentious, to say the least, with immigration at the forefront.

Soooo… Trudeau now wants to speed up deportations, presumably to make it look like he is not an immigration pushover.

From Voice of America:

Canada to Step Up Deportations of Undocumented Migrants

Canada’s border agency said Wednesday that it planned to increase its deportations of undocumented migrants by 10,000 a year.

These are to include not just failed refugees and asylum-seekers but those authorities regard as national security threats.

“While Canada is a humanitarian country that has welcomed many immigrants and asylum-seekers over the years, those coming to our country are expected to abide by our laws and processes,” a border agency spokesperson told the state-run Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

There is a backlog of about 18,000 migrants listed for deportation, with 5,300 so-called actionable cases, meaning there are no legal appeals or other reasons for them to stay.

Opposition conservatives call the number of asylum-seekers entering Canada through unmanned U.S. border crossings a crisis. They say the government does not take the matter seriously and has no plan.

Liberals call the border situation a challenge.

More here.

By the way, fearing Trump, many who have gotten in to Canada illegally in the last few years crossed in from the US.

His deportations better send them home to their own countries and not to the US.

See my Canada category for many more posts on the topic.

We ARE deporting Somalis!

I am so excited to report this news!

WE DEPORT SOMALIS BACK TO SOMALIA!

Rumor:  HUNDREDS WAITING IN DETENTION CENTERS!

For the longest time we didn’t, but I’m wondering if since the Obama Administration has recognized the new government and the new Somali Prez came to Minneapolis recently to encourage Somalis to return to Africa, if that means Obama feels free to send some back—by force!

Here is the story written to pull on your heartstrings.  The poor boy (now 26 years old) left Somalia at age 4.  But, read on, he came to the US at approximately age 18 and promptly had sex with a minor and did 5 years in the ‘big house.’

From Horseedmedia:

When Hassan was recently asked to come to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services center in Bloomington, he thought immigration authorities needed the usual updates he had often given since he was freed from prison in 2010.

That didn’t happen, though, when Hassan reached the center on Tuesday morning Oct. 30, 2012. Officials from the local U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) greeted and detained him in the same building. They told Hassan he was facing deportation to the strife-torn Somalia he had escaped at age 4.

Hassan spent the night at the center. The next day, he was transferred to the Basile Detention Center in Louisiana.

ICE Spokesman Shawn Neudauer confirmed Hassan’s detention and the wait for removal to Somalia.

[…..]

The violence that 26-year-old Hassan and his family escaped more than two decades ago still persists in the country, Mohamed said. He said the condition in Somalia is even worse right now than it was before.

Wait just a minute!  It was only last week that Hillary was saying everything was working out just fine in Somalia!  Which is it?

Hassan has been detained for more than two months now, awaiting expulsion to this chaotic country. No one from the immigration services has notified Hassan or his family about deportation details, including when exactly he will be deported, where in Somalia he will be taken or who will be responsible for his safety when he gets there.

So what did poor Hassan do?  He got here in 2004 and by 2005 he was in jail for having sex with a minor!

Hassan arrived in the United States in 2004 from a refugee camp in Kenya. En route to Alabama, he settled in South Dakota where he found a job at a local store as a packer.

According to his family, in 2005, Hassan was convicted for sleeping with an underage girl when he was a teenager. His five-year term in South Dakota State Penitentiary ended in 2010.

HUNDREDS WAITING IN DETENTION CENTERS!  Could this be true?

Now, the Twin Cities Somali community circulates rumors of scores of their members who have been deported to Somalia and hundreds who wait their fate at detention centers. ICE officials have not confirmed the total number of Somalis who have been deported so far or kept in detention.

Many community members have expressed disappointment in the government’s decision to send people back to the dangerous country they’ve escaped.

“The only place that they know is the United States,” said community activist Sadik Warfa of the deportees. “They came here when they were kids. It’s a tragedy that the government is sending them back to Somalia.”  [boo hoo!—ed]

For new readers we have resettled more than 100,000 Somali refugees to cities large and small in the US over the last 25 years.  See one of the most widely read posts here at RRW.  In three years since 9/11 ( Bush years 2004, 2005, 2006) the number of Somalis arriving topped 10,000 per year.  Those refugees then began bringing in the family (chain migration!) until 2008 when shock of shocks! the State Department discovered that as many as 30,000 Somalis had lied about their kinship and weren’t related at all.  The State Department then closed the “family reunification” program for Somalis.  It has recently been re-opened for new and legit family members, but they have no intention of finding and deporting the liars.   But, with this news maybe I’m wrong—airlifts to Mogadishu anyone!

Thailand to deport latest groups of Rohingya asylum seekers

What is a country to do—just about anywhere in the world these days massive numbers of migrants are on the move looking for jobs and social services.

In and around Southeast Asia it’s impossible to do the Greek model of border security.

Thailand won’t let this latest group of Rohingya Muslim asylum seekers stay and the UN is not happy.

In Australia those arriving by boat get to stay, but are placed in detention and there is almost daily news about the pressure on the government there to not be so inhumane.   So, what is a country that wishes to survive do?

Here is the latest fuming from the NGOs and the UN:

Thai authorities say Rohingya Muslim refugees allegedly fleeing sectarian violence and persecution in western Burma must be sent back to their homeland.

The 73 migrants, including women and children, were found drifiting in a small, overcrowded boat off the Thai resort town of Phuket, well short of their final destination of Malaysia.

Thai authorities intercepted the boat, which had been at sea for 13 days, and provided the refugees with food and supplies on Tuesday. But local media reported Wednesday they have been arrested and ordered to return to Burma by land.

Sunai Phasuk, a senior researcher with Human Rights Watch, says that Thailand should suspend any plan to deport the refugees until the United Nations refugee agency has a chance to determine whether they have legitimate claims for protection.

He says Thai authorities, who are reluctant to absorb migrant workers from neighboring countries, must come up with a better policy for dealing with boat people.

Then here is more—UN puts pressure on Thailand.  (see the photo, Camp of the Saints anyone?)

It is just a matter of time before the US steps in and says to countries like Thailand (as they did Malta), heck we will take a few off your hands.

Come to think of it, where are the nations of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) with their Muslim charity?  They should be taking in their Muslim brethren!

For new readers:  This is our 130th post on the Rohingya issue, here.
