Washington: Likely Honor Killing Puts Iraqi Refugees in the News Again

Diversity does not bring us strength!

Earlier this week at ‘Frauds and Crooks’ I wrote about the Iraqi refugee arrested in Arizona on charges that he was an Al-Qaeda member who got into the US apparently unvetted.

In January we learned that another Iraqi was arrested in Texas wanted in the murder of a Colorado woman.

‘New American’ Yasir Darraji. Lucky us! Taxpayers brought him here and now we get to pay for an expensive trial and the cost of incarceration likely for life.

Now comes news from Washington state that yet another Iraqi, we obviously welcomed to live among us, was arrested for murder in the death of his former wife.

Authorities believe he didn’t like her Americanized behavior which led to a bitter divorce and demands that she return to Iraq.

By the way, the vast majority of Iraqis in the US came here through the US Refugee Admissions Program.

According to the Refugee Processing Center from 2006 to this month we have admitted 143,271 Iraqi refugees to the US. An additional 18,677 arrived as Special Immigrant Visa holders.

Iraqi Immigrant’s Friends Fear She Was ‘Honor Killed’ By Accused Ex-Husband

Ibtihal Darraji’s body, which was so scorched authorities had difficulty identifying her, was found in her flaming car in Spokane last week.

Ibtihal Darraji

A Washington man is accused of strangling his ex-wife and setting her body on fire, in what the woman’s friends’ suspect may have been an “honor killing.”

Yasir Darraji, 30, is facing murder charges in the suspicious death of his ex-wife, Ibtihal Darraji, who was found in a burning car in Spokane on Thursday night, according to KHQ-TV.

As firefighters began extinguishing a blazing vehicle found in a parking lot in Spokane’s City Park neighborhood late last week, they discovered Ibtihal Darraji’s body in the wreckage, a police spokesperson told Oxygen.com. The 29-year-old woman’s remains were so badly charred, detectives weren’t immediately able to identify her. She had allegedly been choked and drenched in some type of fire accelerant, investigators said.

Friends of the dead woman, however, told police about the former couple’s contentious relationship and bitter divorce, claiming that Darraji was a control freak who was long-enraged by his wife’s perceived promiscuous Western lifestyle and had previously threatened to kill her.

Prior to her death, Ibtihal allegedly told co-workers she feared for her life, KHQ-TV reported. One witness told authorities that Yasir was furious his former spouse was dating and “going to night clubs.” He allegedly demanded she return to their native Iraq — or he would murder her, friends said.

Darraji’s bond has been set at $1 million.

Diversity is strength alert: Arrests made in honor killing (NYC)

If you don’t read The Muslim Issue, you should, the bloggers there have some informative stories that dovetail at time with what we write here at RRW.

Today (or last night) The Muslim Issue has a post about a professor of Islamic studies in Germany (a Muslim himself!) who is suggesting that Mohammed never existed—get ready for all hell to break loose in Germany!

But, it’s the “honor killing” story that I want to post.

Yippee! Here we come! Pakistanis second fastest-growing group of Asian immigrants in US. First are Bangladeshis (also Muslims). Chinese are way down the list.

Here is a bit of it:

NEW YORK, Sept. 27 (UPI) — Prosecutors said a New York man has been charged with conspiring to kill two family members in a dispute over the arranged marriage of his daughter in Pakistan.  [read on…they were killed!—ed]

Mohammad Ajmal Choudhry was arrested Thursday on charges of conspiring to commit murder in a foreign county, transmitting threats via interstate communications and visa fraud, federal officials said in a news release.

U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Loretta E. Lynch — along with officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Homeland Security Investigations; and the U.S. State Department — said court filings indicate Choudhry directed that his daughter, Amina Ajmal, a U.S. citizen, be held against her will for three years in Pakistan.

She was forced to marry a Pakistani national so he could get a U.S. visa, prosecutors said.

Read the whole disgusting story of how two innocent relatives were killed.

So, how do all the Pakistanis get into the US?

Most people assume that the Refugee Resettlement Program of the US State Department takes all comers, but it doesn’t.  Pakistanis make up a small proportion of the program (156 came this year as “refugees”).   See this very handy map and list at WRAPS.net Map Arrivals by Nationality as of 31 Aug 2013

Here is an article from 2012 (a little outdated) that says that 65% of Pakistanis (the second fastest growing group of Asian immigrants in America) are foreign born and most get here thanks to chain migration—family reunification.  Another 16% were sponsored by businesses.  So once the seeds are planted, the extended family comes too!   In the terrible story above, the deaths were the result of Islamic ‘law’ and immigration fraud.

We have a ‘women’s issues’ category with other “honor killing” stories posted there.

New Zealand to take some of Australia’s asylum seekers

But, only legitimate “refugees” and only 150 per year.

I haven’t said much about Australia’s problem of  illegal aliens coming by the boatload lately—mostly because it was the same old boring hunger-striking and political wrangling—but there are a couple of interesting bits of news from Down Under today.

The first is that New Zealand, that wisely takes only a whopping 750 refugees a year, is going to take some of Australia’s boat arrivals.  To put that into perspective, the US in recent years has resettled on average 50,000-60,000, Canada around 7,000, Australia 6,000 and the entire European Union maybe around 5,000.

This business of taking some of the so-called “refugees” from Muslim countries or regions of the world arriving illegally on another country’s shores is a relatively new thing.  According to international law, legitimate refugees are supposed to ask for asylum in the first safe country in which they arrive—they aren’t supposed to be on a shopping expedition (think Malta!).  Nor, is the country under siege supposed to be pawning them off on other countries.

Here is the latest from Australia (ABC News).  Critics in New Zealand say this will ultimately lead to boats arriving there as well.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has struck a deal that will see New Zealand resettle 150 refugees from Australia’s system each year.

Ms Gillard and her New Zealand counterpart announced the deal after holding leaders talks in Queenstown.

Ms Gillard says the deal could affect asylum seekers currently being held in processing centres on Manus Island and Nauru.

“The aim here is to have it start in 2014 and be ongoing,” she said.

“The 150 could be drawn from people who are in Australia now and we would want to work with PNG and Nauru so it is possible that some of the 150 could come from who are processed on PNG and Nauru.”

Mr Key says New Zealand will not increase its overall intake of asylum seekers from its present level of 750 a year, but that number will now include those from Australia.

“Australia is grappling with the huge challenge of illegal arrivals by sea and is at the forefront of the efforts to disrupt people smuggling across the region,” Mr Key said.  [So how is people smuggling going to stop if those arriving illegally are granted asylum?—ed]

“As part of our support for a regional approach, New Zealand will resettle 150 genuine refugees annually from the Australian system … as part of the 750 refugees that we annually take.

“So it’s not an increase in the number of refugees New Zealand takes but a different sourcing of the location of those refugees.”

He says taking refugees from Australia makes sense and will not encourage asylum seekers to get on boats bound for New Zealand.

Mr Key has previously said he believes it is inevitable that New Zealand will be facing similar policy quandaries to Australia.

“It’s my view a boat will turn up in New Zealand, I think it’s a matter of time,” he said earlier this week.

The opposition:  border security first!  (LOL! where have I heard that before?)

But Opposition immigration spokesman Scott Morrison is not convinced.

“What this arrangement has the risk of doing is putting a bit of Kiwi sugar on the table for people smugglers,” he said.

“What we should have been talking about is how New Zealand and Australia can be working together, through the Bali process, to beef up natural deterrents.”

He says the talks should have focused on things like improved training of immigration and customs officers, better border protection technology and regional border patrols.

Meanwhile Muslim refugee wife murdered by refugee hubby for becoming too Australian

So much for assimilating.  From the Daily Telegraph:

AN Afghan refugee who strangled his wife with her scarf in a fit of rage because she wanted a divorce has been jailed for 20 years.

Soltan Azizi, 48, has twice been found guilty by Victorian Supreme Court juries of brutally beating and strangling 33-year-old Marzieh Rahimi in their Hampton Park home in November 2007.

[…..]

Justice Stephen Kaye said Azizi’s account was totally unconvincing.

He said the couple’s relationship had been hostile and strained and that Azizi had killed his wife in an uncontrollable fit of rage during an argument about her rights.

The court heard Azizi had told Marzieh’s sister that she had changed religion and become Australian.

[…..]

Justice Kaye said Azizi and Marzieh came to Australia as refugees in 2005.   [The honor killing happened in 2007–only two years after being granted refugee status—and no one saw this coming?—ed]
