Germany: Police raid refugee shelters thwarting ISIS terror plot

German police arrested three Algerians suspected of ties to the “Islamic State” militant group and of having planned a terrorist attack in Berlin. Other suspects were questioned during police raids but not arrested.

Suspects encountered during a number of police raids conducted in the early morning hours Thursday had allegedly been planning to meet in Berlin to carry out terrorist attacks. It is not known how close their plans were to completion, but German police said they believed all the suspects had active links to IS.

Martin Steltner, spokesman for the Berlin prosecutor’s office, declined to comment on any further details from the ongoing police investigation but said that prosecutors were aware of a “concrete” plan to target the capital. The German newspaper “Bild” meanwhile claimed that the suspects had been plotting to attack Berlin’s Alexanderplatz, a central shopping and entertainment square as well as a major regional transportation hub. Checkpoint Charlie, the former border crossing between East and West Berlin, was discussed as potential target, according to the German dpa news agency.

About 450 officers were deployed in Berlin during the operation, which occurred as parts of Germany started a week of celebrations marking Carnival amid beefed-up security measures.

The coordinated police raids carried out on Thursday morning took place at four residences and two businesses in Berlin, a refugee shelter in the town of Attendorn in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, a Hanover refugee shelter and a number of other locations in the city.

NOT refugees!
But, it is no surprise that they took advantage of the flood of migrants as Angela Merkel “welcomed” over a million to Germany in a year. And, heck, ISIS said all along it would use the refugee flow to infiltrate Europe. The really stupid leaders of Europe must not have believed them.

The alleged involvement of Algerian nationals in an IS plot is expected to put North African refugees in the spotlight once more, after they were blamed for a series of sexual assaults during New Year’s Eve festivities in Cologne. German Chancellor Angela Merkel had announced recently that refugees from North Africa, including those coming from Algeria, would likely be deported as Germany classified Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria “safe” countries of origin.

So-called SAFE Act fails in the Senate, contractors crow

As we told you a couple of days ago, the federal refugee resettlement contractors were whipping their forces to tell their Senators to oppose a bill that had passed the House in November with broad bipartisan support. The contractors were so afraid of losing their Muslim ‘clients’ (a large portion of those for which they are paid by the head to bring to your towns).

Yesterday, the Senate failed to get cloture and move the bill with enough votes to assure Obama would not veto it. From insiders we learned that the bill, if it ever passed and was signed by Obama, would have been a fig leaf and not done much to keep us safe from terrorists getting into your neighborhoods from places like Syria and Iraq.
The vote, however, was informative. All Democrats except Bernie Sanders who missed the vote, and two brave souls, voted to kill the bill. Republicans including the three US Senators running for President voted to move the bill.
The two Dems who bucked the party (and the grassroots working for contractors) were West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin and North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp.

This is what Reuters says about the vote:

U.S. Senate Democrats on Wednesday narrowly blocked legislation that would slow the entry of refugees from Syria and Iraq to the United States in a contentious vote cloaked in presidential election-year politics.

Democratic Senators Manchin and Heitkamp voted with Republicans to at least say they have concerns about security screening for refugees from Syria and Iraq.

The vote was 55-43, with “yes” votes falling short of the 60 needed to advance the Republican-backed measure in the 100-member Senate. No Republicans voted against the bill, and only two Democrats backed it.

Among other things, the bill would halt the admission of refugees and require high-level U.S. officials to verify that each refugee from Iraq and Syria posed no security risk before being allowed into the United States. [This is the part of the bill that was so weak because the Obama Administration (and a Hillary one too) would simply verify that screening was adequate.—ed]

Republicans said the tighter screening was essential to ensure the safety of Americans and prevent attacks within the country by Islamic State and other militant groups.

“This bipartisan bill would allow Washington to step back, take a breath and ensure it has the correct policies and security screenings in place,” Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in the Senate before the vote.

All three Senate Republican 2016 presidential hopefuls, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio, backed the bill. Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders missed the vote.

Dems tried and failed to bring Donald Trump into the debate. Who in their right mind would have gone along with this trick!

Democrats also sought to play politics. They tried and failed to reach a deal with Republicans to set up a vote on an amendment establishing a religious test for would-be immigrants.

That vote was planned to see if Republicans would side against presidential candidate Donald Trump, who has advocated barring Muslims from entering the United States.

The Syria refugee bill passed the House by a large margin days after the Nov. 13 Islamic State attacks in Paris. The bill was supported by dozens of Democrats who defied Democratic President Barack Obama’s veto threat.

There is mention in the story that refugees are screened for 18-24 months which is a joke. They are briefly screened, then they wait for their plane tickets and their assignments to your towns!
Conclusion! Democrats, except those in West Virginia and North Dakota, are on the side of flooding America with refugees from terror-producing countries. That is pretty clear.
And, it is also pretty clear that there is much work ahead (Congress is not going to save us!) during Election 2016 to educate the public through whatever means possible about the Refugee Admissions Program which is being effectively directed by the United Nations choosing America’s refugees.

Two Iraqi (Palestinian!) refugees arrested on terror charges (California and Texas)

Here is the hot news this morning. The LA Times has a more detailed account of the story that broke overnight, than some other news outlets (maybe CA is getting a little more sensitive to the terrorists living in their midst).
The two Iraqis are actually Palestinians who had been living in Iraq. By the way, we only bring a small number of Palestinians to the US as refugees. And, it is not clear to me if one or either of these actually became refugees by arriving here through some other means and then granted asylum. I guess only their federal resettlement contractor knows for sure!

However, in all likelihood at least one of the two came from our special resettlement project for Palestinians when back in 2009 the US State Department agreed to bring in 1,350 Iraqi Palestinians to your neighborhoods.
It was quite big news at the time. And, the issue was that these were Palestinians Saddam Hussein had invited to live in Iraq and once the regime fell, no one wanted them.
Because of his arrival date, at least one of the two alleged Islamic terrorists could have been in that group. Here is what we said in 2009.
Now, the LA Times:

A man who came to the U.S. as an Iraqi refugee was arrested in Sacramento on Thursday on suspicion of lying about fighting alongside terrorist organizations in Syria, federal authorities said.

On the same day, federal authorities in Houston announced that an Iraqi refugee in Texas, who had been communicating online with the man in California, was charged with attempting to provide support to the militant group Islamic State.

The allegations against two men residing in the U.S. with links to foreign terrorist groups comes as the nation reels from the Dec. 2 shooting in San Bernardino, which left 14 dead. That is considered the deadliest terrorist act on U.S. soil since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

And the arrests of two refugees from Iraq, part of a wave of about 103,000*** Iraqi refugees admitted from 2006 to 2014, is likely to add fuel to the debate over whether the U.S. should welcome refugees from Syria, and if so, whether the screening process is adequate.

The man living in Sacramento, Aws Mohammed Younis Al-Jayab, 23, had reported in private messages on social media that he fought alongside various groups in Syria, including Ansar al-Islam, a Sunni terrorist group and an affiliate of Al Qaeda, according to a federal complaint filed Wednesday and unsealed Thursday.

Because of the ages at which these two must have arrived in the US (as teenagers), it shows how ludicrous the discussion about vetting refugees can be when they are obviously becoming more devout after they get here (I refuse to use the word radicalized!).

The only way to make sure we are completely safe is to stop the migration from terror-producing Islamic countries!

*** I’ve been meaning to check out the numbers for Iraq for some time.
Using the State Department’s data base I went back to 2007 and grabbed a map from then until December 31, 2015. The Bush Administration was slow to admit Iraqi refugees, but opened the door in its last year in office. The Obama Administration has made Iraqis the largest group of refugees we admit each year since then.
Here is where 127,906 Iraqis have been resettled since 2007 (remember though that this does not mean they stayed where the contractors originally seeded them).

Top five states:

California (26,343)

Michigan (19,186)

Texas (12,314)

Illinois (7,336)

Massachusetts (4,322)

And, because it isn’t far behind (for my VA friends), Virginia (4,158)

Homeland Security Committee Chairman McCaul: ISIS has tried to infiltrate refugee stream to US

I’ve given up trying to keep up with all the breaking news on this critical issue, but here is one more thing we learned yesterday that needs to be archived here at RRW.
Leo Hohmann writing at World Net Daily tells us this:

Michael McCaul — Chairman McCaul: The Administration has information about ISIS and refugees that they are not telling you about.

Intelligence officials revealed that it’s no longer just a threat, but an actual occurrence – ISIS terrorists have tried to use the refugee program to enter the United States, but President Obama is keeping the information secret from the American public.

The bombshell was dropped by the head of the House Homeland Security Committee Monday during a speech at the National Defense University.

U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, declined to go into detail about the disclosure, the Hill reported.

Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, wrote President Obama warning that the Syrian refugee program could become a ‘back door for jihadists” to enter the U.S.

But the revelation will add ammunition to critics of the White House’s refugee plans who have warned that the program is vulnerable to infiltration by adherents of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.

“ISIS members in Syria have attempted to exploit it to get into the United States,” McCaul said during the speech.

“The U.S. government has information to indicate that individuals tied to terrorist groups in Syria have already attempted to gain access to our country through the U.S. refugee program.”

McCaul did not say who informed him and other lawmakers about the revelation, only describing the sources as “elements of the intelligence community,” according to the Hill.

Clare Lopez, vice president of research and analysis for the Center for Security Policy in Washington, said it’s no surprise ISIS would use the refugee program to infiltrate America, because they promised to do so.

Lopez said a moratorium on all refugee resettlements from Muslim countries is the only answer at this point.
